HP OJ 6500 Wireless Networkprinter persisting in going offline

After having installed and hooked in my wireless homenetwork this Officejet HP6500 (E709n wireless) printer, one year ago, it worked fine until some time ago when it did not react to printcommands. Inspection of Windows “Printers and Faxdevices” in XP Pro, it was “off line” (as well as the built in Faxdevice).
The HP printer and networkutilities (HPHNDU.exe and HPPDU.exe) run on my laptop could not find the printer in the network.
Neither a Networkconfiguration report printed via the printer keyboard/display nor printerstatusreports did reveal any failure. The printer seems on air, but the laptopWindows doesn’t see it, considering it offline.
Sometimes the connection reestablishes, but this occurs unpredictably and lasts for some minutes or so to return to invisibility of the printer.
From that moment on I have been reparing, reinstalling, reading, experimenting, posing questions to the HP-support, struggling with the possible solutions all the time, but no way result. In the contraray: the problems worsened in that the sleep-mode came up spontaneously upon a certain moment and not any reset worked to make/keep it awake.
Meanwhile HP-support offered me to replace this printer with a new one of the same type.
After installing this new device exactly according to the HP-prescriptions: you may guess…. Exactly the same off line issue appeared!!!
As the printer has functioned wireless as has to be expected during 10 months or so, the sudden change in malfunctioning cannot be caused by network nor by firewall. These did not change.
In this forum a search with the keywords “6500 offline” brings up many posts with similar items as this, but none of these turned out to be “the” solution. It seems to be a typical problem sticking on this type of HP.
Who knows the right answer to my printer on/off-line problems?
My equipment:
3 PC’s plus a network disk in my peer-to-peer homenetwork.
Only 1 PC has been used during this new installation procedure: Acer laptop 5920G + XP-Pro (32 bit).
Wireless: Linksys WRT54G Router/AP working mixed: b and g norms. Infrastructure, secured WPA2
Software: the latest full-version from the HP drivers site, including “HP Solution Centre”
Firewall: Windows switched off, F-Secure (from my ISP). On or off is of no significance in observed phenomena.

  • Cannot download Solution Center for Off Jet 6500 Wireless since going to Windows 8.1

I get a failure message and am unable to download HP full feature software (a.k.a. the "solution center") for my HP Officejet 6500 Wireless on my Aspire E1-571-688 Laptop.   The solution center was successfully downloaded when I got the laptop in August 2013.  It was running fine until I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1.
When I discovered that the solution center would not run, I removed the printer and driver software beofre trying to reinstall.  When trying to get the Solution Center back, I can't get past the download step because during download it "fails".  I was able to download "drivers only" through the "add a printer" option, and I do have printing capability, however I am unable to use the scan function from the laptop (or directly from the 6500).
Weird that I can't get the scan function to work on the unit itself (I get the "no scan options" message when trying to do so) as I have confirmed mutliple times that the printer is successfully connected to the correct network.
    Help please!  Thank you

    Geo,
    Welcome to the HP Forum.
You will not have access to the full features of the printer software until you manage to install the Full Feature Software.  Scanning is one of those functions.
The initial Connection to the Internet is indeed part of it -- you need a reliable, clean, consistant connection that will allow you to download the full data file.  Your connection may be dropping out part way through.
You may need to upgrade your network drivers after the Upgrade to Windows 8.1 .  There are other issues can can plague a system after the Upgrade, most are well documented at this point.  You can check with your system's Forum to what others are saying.
Basic Drivers only are much smaller in size -- just a few MBs.
    Random Thoughts..
You need to resolve the network issues so you can download the full software.
You might have a friend download the file onto his computer and transfer the file to your system using a USB stick.  This does not fix your network problems but it does solve at least the issue of not being able to get a hold of the installation package.
You might try taking the computer to a friend's house -- if the issue is not within your computer's network setup, then the Upgrade may have "upset" the relationship between the computer and your home network.

  • How do I scan a document with multiple pages _ HP 6500 wireless

I tried this in another thread but never got an answer, so here it goes again. I have a problem trying to scan multiple pages FROM THE GLASS into one pdf file. I have the HP Officejet 6500 wireless E709n printer running under WIN7 64-bit. My printer has the HP Document Manager software version 2.0.  How do I set that up to do multiple page from the glass into a single pdf file. I was able to do this easily with my older HP Officejet 6110 printer but the HP software on that was HP Director.   Any help will be appreciated.

Jabzi, Clicked on the link and it takes me to a page that says to use HP software that I have to be using HP Solutions Center software that came with the HP printer. I have a HP Laptop G7-2022 that came with WIN7 and the HP 6500 wireless printer and there are several listings on the HP programs drop down menu, but no HP Solutions Center. It has HP Document Manager,  HP Photosmart, Officejet 6500, etc but no Solutions Center. So I take it then from your answer that HP Document Manager can scan multiple pages from the ADF into one pdf file but can't do the same thing from the glass, correct?  Where do I get HP Solutions Center software since it didn't come with the HP laptop or HP printer?

  • HP 6500 wireless ALL-in-one e709n Printer front panel not responding at all

    Hi there,
    I have got a HP 6500 wireless ALL-in-one e709n printer.
I have been using it with my pc with windows vista on it for nearly 2 years and it has been great.
1 month ago, the front panel of the printer stopped responding, ie, when i press any buttons, the lcd screen on the printer does not change, it always show the ink level.
The printer turns on, shows that its preparing, then goes to idle state with ink level icons on the screen.
If i try to print any documents, it works with ethernet cable connected to my pc (which i used to do it wirelessly) , the cable-connected printing function still works, but wireless printing does not work anymore.
However if i try to scan something, on the pc when i open the hp scan app, it shows that 'scanner is not available'.
Also because the front panel doesnt work, no buttons respond, i cannot scan or copy.
I have tried unplug everything and reinstall all drivers and programs.
No damage to printer or my pc, it just stopped working all the sudden.
Can any one help me out please?
    cheers,
    Charlie

  • After trying to install 6500 Wireless all-in-one on my 3rd comp, it ceased to work

While trying to install my (less than 2 year old) HP6500 Wireless all-in-one software on my 3rd networked computer, the software installation went into a loop and would not complete the installation.  After about an hour or so of waiting, I physically had to unplug the printer & eject the CD. Upon doing so, the printer became next to useless. The printer key pad no longer functions except when I first plug it in, and I can no longer access it from the other 2 original computers, even with USB.  The HP solution center says it’s on line, until I go to print via USB, then it says it’s offline. I can hook the USB up on the Widows 7 unit and force it to print Word Office documents, but when I try to print documents on it from either Internet Explorer or Fire Fox it wants to send a Fax??? I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software 3 times on my Windows 7 unit now to no avail. Is it my printer, the printer Firmware or what?  I have downloaded and run all the HP & Microsoft troubleshooting tools on the Windows 7 unit to no avail.  However; HP downloads will not successfully complete on my XP unit.  What should I do? Should I start over with a new wireless printer?
    Totally Confuzed

    Ref: 02-23-2012 08:53 AM
12:38 AM 2/24/2012 UPDATE ON WHAT I HAVE TRIED AGAIN:
    1. Power Reset on the Printer: Power off the printer. Unplug the power cable from the back of the unit. Wait 60 seconds. Replug the power cable to the printer and power it on. DONE
     2. Print a test page: Follow this document to print the test page. PRINTER SCREEN SAYS IT'S PRINTING AND THE POWER LIGHT IS FLASHING LIKE IT'S BUSY, BUT NOTHING IS HAPPENING. ONLY WAY TO USE IT NOW IS TO UNPLUG IT AND START OVER. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME NOW. IT WILL NOT PRINT TEST REPORTS.
     3. Create a copy of the printed test page. CANNOT DO NOW - (PRINTER FREEZES UP WITH A BLINKING POWER LIGHT)
     4. Print the Wireless Network Test Report (To check if there are any errors) CANNOT DO
Press the Setup button ( ). DOESN'T WORK EXCEPT MOMENTARILY...NOT LONG ENOUGH TO MAKE A SELECTION BEFORE IT HANGS AND FREEZES UP...
Press the Right Arrow button ( ) to select Network Setup, and then press the OK button. CAN'T GET IT TO DO ANYTHING PRESSING THE OK BUTTON.
Press the Right Arrow button ( ) to select Wireless Network Test , and then press the OK button. The Wireless Network Test Report prints. CAN'T GET IT TO DO ANYTHING PRESSING THE OK BUTTON.
If you did not encounter any errors while performing the steps above then I think the hardware is OK. Test the software next. Let's use Windows 7 as the test platform. I DON'T THINK THE HARDWARE IS OK.
    1. Download the driver from HP.com. Once it gives you the option to either Run or Save make sure to select Save and then select Desktop as the target location where it will save the file. This is just to make it easier to find it. Once it finishes downloading the file, double click it to initiate the installation process. Follow the on screen instructions until you reach the "select how you want to connect the printer" window comes up. I ALREADY HAVE 3 COPIES ON MY DESKTOP & NONE OF THEM REACT ANY DIFFERENTLY.
     2. At the "select how you want to connect the printer" window select USB and then click Next (I think there is a next button). It should asks you to connect your printer but we are NOT going to do that. Place a checkmark on the option on the bottom of the window that gives you the option to bypass the connection phase of the installation. Click Next to proceed. Once the the installation process completes, restart your computer. I HAVE DONE IT BOTH WAYS BEFORE AND CANNOT GET THE INSTALLATION TO COMPLETE ON ANY OF THE 3 COMPUTERS NOW.
If you did not encounter any errors at this point then it looks like the software installation process is good. Proceed to the next test. END OF TEST FOR TONIGHT. THANKS
    1. After the computer completely boots up, connect the USB cable to the printer and to the computer. The computer should detect the printer and initiate the HP installation process for it. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the install.
    2. Try printing to test functionality.

I have a HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - E709n that keeps going off-line all the time.

  • Using HP Officejet 6110 and Officejet 6500 wireless issues

I have been using an HP Offciejet 6110 printer for a long time with an HP laptop running WINXP. I purchased a new HP laptop running WIN7.  The WIN7 laptop will print to the 6110 in color only and doesn't allow the HP Imagimg Director software to work.
I recently purchased a new HP Officejet 6500 wireless printer and set that up to run off the HP laptop with WIN7 using the full software install.  That seems to be working OK.
I then setup theold  XP laptop using only the drivers for the Officejet 6500 so I could still use the Officejet 6110 from that computer and all the scanning and other features of the HP Imageing Director software.   But it appears that the Officejet 6500 drivers have scewed up the Officejet 6110 software drivers on the XP laptop. How do I get this computer back to using the 6110 as normal (which was very useful) but be able to use the 6500 as an optional printer without all the 6500 features?

    Hi dresdenron,
Thanks for clarifying the issue again. I was a bit confused.
How is the Officejet 6500 and Officejet 6110 setup on the Windows XP? (USB, Wireless)
Both models use completely different software. So there shouldn't be any interference even if the full software had been installed for the Officejet 6500. If both printers are connected by a USB cable, then the Officejet 6500 might have taken over the port and therefore causing the scan not to work.
What happens when you try to scan? (error message)
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall the Officejet 6110. This way it will be recognized on the new port assigned.
    Uninstalling the Printer Software.
HP Officejet and PSC Full Feature Software and Driver.
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)
The Officejet 6110 is a Windows Update for Windows 7. There is no HP Imaging Director software available to run on Windows 7. Installing the Printer Software in Windows 7 for a USB Cable Connection.
Please provide in detail the results. If I missed anything, just let me know.

  • Officejet 6500 Wireless dead on install

While installing my new Officejet 6500 Wireless printer as a wireless network printer, the
install fails to find the printer... though my firewall is turned off.  At this point, it goes ahead
and installs the driver, as the printer is still hooked up by a USB cable.
Once the software was installed, the printer became a "brick".   That is, the display is all
white, none of the buttons are lit up, and it is completely unresponsive.  If I try unplugging it and
pluggin it back in, it goes through some kind of breif warm up and dies again.  This is the second
time this has happened... the first time I returned the printer for exchange.
Is there a way to bring this thing back to life, or should I return it again and this time go
    for a Canon printer?
    RB
    Windox XP
    2Wire dsl router

Try unplugging from the back of the printer (not at the wall) and waiting 30 seconds before plugging back in.  You may have a defective unit.
You can try running the Wireless Setup Wizard from the front panel to attach it to your wireless network.

  • 6500 wireless printer

I recenty purchased a 6500 wireless printer.  There is one major problem with this printer.  It goes to sleep after a period of time and the only way to wake it up is to physically go to the machine and wake it up.  You cannot do this wirelessly.  What is the use of having wireless if it truly isn't wireless.  I am returning this product.

If this is the Officejet 6500 the answer is yes.  You can download the drivers from HP here.  Select the appropriate Officejet 6500 model, then download the full featured or basic driver.  There may also be some updates which will apply to your situation.

hp 6500 wireless auto answers with auto answer off intermittently using WIN 7

OK, we are going to reserve an IP address for the printer.
We will start with printing the IP and MAC address from the printer.  Go to Seutp, Network and then Print Network Config Page.
Now, go into the settings of the router by typing 192.168.1.1 into a browser that is attached to the router.  The login is 'admin' and the password is 'password'.  Go to LAN Settings on the lower left.
On there we are going to reserve an IP address for the printer at the bottom of the page.  Click Add, type in the info you have from the printout (IP address, whatever name you want to give it, MAC address).  When you are done, click Apply.
After the router reboots, turn the power of the printer off, then back on.  Hopefully the troubles will go away.

I don't get it, I read one post about why would we have to buy an AirPrint Printer when we have used the "print to a wifi printer" just fine in the past?  Yes I feel that's exactly what's happening to me now too. I want to print from my iPhone and iPad to my WiFi Printer which is also now connected to my Airport Express WiFi network just fine. No problems.

Very glad you added that bit of information because I see different problems similar to this.  I want to share with them what you did and hopefully you not only fixed your specific problem but you can lend some more advice to others with problems like this. Thanks!

  • Hp officejet 6500 wireless doesn't scan to pdf and can't install driver

Purchased a new Windows 8.1 laptop (Dell) and using my old 6500 wireless printer but connected directly through USB.  I can scan from the printer control panel, but don't see an option to save the output as a pdf as was formerly the case with my Windows 7 computer.
There don't appear to be any  HP programs on my new laptop with which I can control the printer.  I downloaded the driver/software  from the HP site, but when I try to run the downloaded executable, it extracts the files but gets no further.
So there are 2 problems, but the first may be a result of the second.
Thanks for any help you can give.

    Hi,
Yes, Windows 8.1 comes with many generic drivers for printers and normally they only support basic print. Please download the following Software and Drivers and install to your Windows 8.1 (or 8) computer:
