  • What is 'open using rosetta' ?

What does open using rosetta mean? I saw this option on Firefox.
Does firefox run slower if I don't choose 'run using rosetta'?

It's a means of forcing an Intel or universal application to run as though it were a PowerPC application. Running in Rosetta will actually be slower on an Intel Mac.

  • Safari issues "fixed" running under Rosetta

I have found that unless you run Safari under Rosetta there are compatability problems with some sites. In particular, I was unable to load images of my old computer to that auction site when running native but it works fine if I run Safari under Rosetta. I read elsewhere in this forum that there are Flash issues as well.
I have reported this to Apple so let's hope we get a new version or an OS update soon!

    viking79,
Choose Get Info for the Safari app. Click the
    checkbox "Open using Rosetta."
    Jim R.
Is there a way I can make a shortcut for each method of opening Safari? So I could click one icon to launch it in Rosetta, and another to launch it native? Or it would be nice if I could just right click on the icon in the Dock and select Rosetta or native.
    Thanks

  • Open in Rosetta?

In looking at instructions for Photoshop, I find a solution to a certain problem is to open the program in Rosetta. I've searched my iMac and I cannot find Rosetta. Is it already on the machine or do I have to install it?
My understanding was that Rosetta automatically opens when the program needs it. If that is the case, how do I open a program in in Manually?
The Adobe instructions said to right click on the application, click on GEt Info & then Open in Rosetta. But I do not see that option.
    So I'm confused.
    Thanks

Only applications that are Universal binaries can be forced to open using Rosetta. Universal binaries have both PowerPC and Intel code. They open automatically on an Intel Mac with their Intel code, but can be forced to open with their PPC code following the instructions you list.
Photoshop is PPC software and cannot be forced to open using Rosetta, it should automatically open using Rosetta when double clicked.

  • Norton Internet Security cannot scan emails the use SSL. How do I insure that I do not get a virus or malware by opening an email in Thunderbird?

Norton Internet Security cannot scan emails the use SSL. How do I insure that I do not get a virus or malware by opening an email in Thunderbird? I have read that you don't have to click on a link to get malware but that some email can trigger malware just by opening and reading. Any suggestions to keep my emails from triggering malware? AOL Desktop software has it's own built-in email scanner but I'm trying to get away from using their software and rely just on TB.
    Thanks

There are many aspects to this question.
First, using SSL or TLS to send and receive email is important because it prevents others from sniffing your email login. Particularly if you are using a device over wi-fi or on untrusted networks, this is critical because if others obtain your email login, bad things can happen.
Of course, using SSL or TLS with your mail server also protects the content of your email from being captured by others, so that's good too.
Second, you are correct that there can be security threats in email other than the attachments, although the attachments generally are the most dangerous. Your antivirus should protect you from bad attachments because in order to open them, they need to be written to disk in a temporary folder, and your AV software leaps into action whenever a new file is added to disk. You also can hedge your bets by using a two-step approach: first save the attachment to disk and only after it survives the real-time AV scan then launch it in the appropriate application.
Sometimes content in the message body can trigger a vulnerability in your email software or a plugin. As these vulnerabilities become known, Mozilla updates its software, but there seem to always be new issues discovered and there will never be perfect security. I'm not sure how helpful email scanning is for this problem.

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
The procedure is supposed to work; the process does depend on a several criteria which are outlined in the User Guide.  Presumably, once these conditions are met, ADF Scan to computer will work as expected.

    Scan to a computer
Before scanning to a computer, make sure you have already installed the HP recommended printer software.
The printer and computer must be connected and turned on.
In addition, on Windows computers, the printer software must be running prior to scanning.
To enable the scan to a computer feature (Windows)
The scan to a computer feature is enabled by default from the factory. Follow these instructions if the feature has been disabled, and you wish to enable it again (either using an Ethernet cable or wireless connection).

    Go to the Scan section
    Select Manage Scan to Computer
    Click Enable
To scan an original from the printer control panel
Load your original print-side down on the scanner glass or print-side up in the document feeder
For more information, see Load an original on the scanner glass or Load an original in the document feeder.

  • This form template is not currently browser-enabled. It must either be republished as a browser-enabled form, or opened using Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007

    Hi,
When I try to open a Infopath related file from Sharepoint, I am receiving the below error.
This form template is not currently browser-enabled. It must either be republished as a browser-enabled form, or opened using Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007.
Office Professional Plus 2010 and Infopath 2010 are installed in my Windows 7 Enterprise edition. Have executed ""C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\InfoPath.exe" /cache ClearAll" the command. But still getting the same error.
It works in different machine. Repaired Office 2010 and Infopath.
Please let me know if any solution available.

    Hi,
You can try Amit Bajaj's method in another thread which has fixed the same problem for several users:
Check if the default “Form Templates” option in appearing under “View all site contents” page. If it is not enabled by
default, then you can follow this following steps.
If "Office SharePoint Server Enterprise Site Features" is enabled but we don't see the default "Form Templates" on the "View
all site contents" page, then you should use the following steps.
Make sure they have backup of everything.
Opened the site http://<your site url> in SharePoint Designer.
Select the root URL and click FILE >> NEW >> SharePoint Content
Choose Document Library >> Form Library
Under options type the name as “FormServerTemplates” and it will create the content.
Now right click on “FormServerTemplate” and open “Properties”
On settings Tab change the name to “Form Templates” and uncheck the option “Use a template for new documents”
    Click OK
Now you should see “Form Templates” on the view all site content page.
You should be able to publish the InfoPath form with "Enable this form to be filled out by using a browser."

  • How do I use p3scan to scan email (Thunderbird) using Clamav? [/b]

How do I use p3scan to scan email (Thunderbird) using Clamav? I followed this http://p3scan.sourceforge.net/readme.html
I searched for hours in Google and in forums looking for a way to get Clamav to scan email using p3Scan?
I have three  questions (one question is in two parts) about setting up p3scan to use Clamav to scan for Viruses in incoming & outgoing email:
I now have three questions.  One is in two parts:
    Question 1)
Within the "/etc/p3scan/p3scan.conf" file there is a line that reads "# username: laitcg#pop.gmail.com:110 host: <url of p3scan machine> port: 8110".
My question is:how does a person find the url of the p3scan machine?
    Question 2)
Within the read me file that you sent me (http://p3scan.sourceforge.net/readme.html)
    there appears the following:
    P3SCAN_USER=mail (clamav, etc...)
    iptables -t nat -I PREROUTING -p tcp -i eth0 --dport pop3 -j REDIRECT --to 8110
    iptables -t nat -I PREROUTING -p tcp -i eth0 --dport smtp -j REDIRECT --to 8110
    iptables -t nat -I PREROUTING -p tcp -i eth0 --dport pop3s -j REDIRECT --to 8110
    iptables -t nat -I OUTPUT -p tcp --dport pop3 -m owner --uid-owner $P3SCAN_USER -j ACCEPT
    iptables -t nat -I OUTPUT -p tcp --dport pop3 -j REDIRECT --to 8110
My question as it pertains to the above is: Who is the owner and who is the P3SCAN_user?
    Question 3)
Within the "/etc/p3scan/p3scan.conf" file there is a paragraph that reads:
    "Clam Anti-Virus: http://www.clamav.net
    # This program must run as the same user as p3scan is running so that
    # it can access the mail files for scanning. Either compile with the
    # options --with-user=mail --with-group=mail (if p3scan is using the
    # the default user/group of "mail") or change "User" in clamav.conf
    # to the user p3scan is running as. If you get a return code other
    # than a 0 or 1, see the clamav documentation for the reason.
My question as it pertains to the above is: I installed Clamav years ago, so how do I make it run as user mail?
I would hope that no “Linux Guru” will post something to the effect of “the bash is the answer. Figure it out.” I learned and accomplished a great deal in Linux relative to the fact that I am a laymen whose college education did not encompass networking and computer science. I am asking for help because I cannot help myself.
    Thanks in advance to everyone.
If someone could please, please answer the three questions that I've asked above, I would be most grateful.

    Still not solved
I decided to go with the  host: <url of p3scan machine> vs iptables. It seemed easier at the time.
The problem is that everything is written as a bunch of options with no clear direction indicated, unless one has a computer science degree or a strong IT background, and I am lacking in both.
The bottom line is that more I look at p3scan, the more confused and lost I become. Is there an alternative to p3scan that actually has GOOD documentation? I looked at Claws but thanks to the new pacman, 50% of all packages fail checksum test, something for another post.
Can someone walk me through this? If someone would walk me through this, I'd be more than happy to turn it into a step-by-step outline designed for the average user because this is just ludicrous. It has been my experience that good documentation open the door to so much more as it pertains to advancing one's undrstanding and enjoyment of Linux. I know that this p3scan setup would be well within the ability of the average "Arch Linux" if it were written for the laymen.
    Please help
    Thanks

  • Can scan to email but cannot scan to computer using 6830 and OS Yosemite

I just purchased 6830  to use with my imac with Yosemite.  I am able to scan to email but I am not able to scan to computer.  I have installed the latest driver .  I followed directions to access HP utility and there was no way to get to scan preferences.  Any ideas how to scan to computer.  I keep getting message to open up the utility which does not get may anywhere.

    Hi @pfgoodman1,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you can scan to email but cannot scan to computer using your HP Officejet 6830 and OS Yosemite. I am sorry to hear this but I am happy to help!
First, I would make sure that the full feature software and driver is installed and not just the basic software.
Then I would recommend the following guides:
Scan From the Control Panel (Including Scan to Email, to a PDF, and to a Memory Device) for HP Offic.... (Select Scanning a photo (.jpeg) or document (.pdf) to the computer.)
A 'No Computer Found' Message Displays for HP Officejet 6810 and HP Officejet Pro 6830 e-All-in-One ....
    Hope this helps!

  • Lightroom 5.4 does not open, using windows 7

lightroom 5.4 does not open, using windows 7. I downloaded the trail and it does not open. I want to buy it, but i am afraid it will not work. I do not get an error code or anything it just will not open.

Thanks but none of the options in that KB fix the problem.
The "Exit Code" was 3 rather than "0" and so it doesn't look like the patch will install.  In terms of the third option, I mentioned in my original message that I cannot "Deactivate" my other CS6 programs because that option is grayed out in those programs.  But those programs work just fine (other than Acrobat Pro X) and so I think there may be a bigger problem with all of my Adobe products.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, maybe after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

  • Final Cut Express 3.5 Universal won't open without Rosetta

I have FCE 3.5 and an Intel iMac with more than the right spec to run this, but it will only work if button in info panel is set to 'Use Rosetta'. Also Live Type and Soundtrack do the same.
    Any ideas?
Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Intel Dual core

I guess that I have a similar problm. I have been trying to open FCE. It looks like it is starting to open - then nothing. I tried to follow some of the threads of the discussions and things get pretty drastic, such as deleting everying on the drive, as I understand the words. I bought a MacBook Pro and then installed the intel version of the latest FCE. I, also, can't get iMovie to work right with the MacBook Pro.
It's more than a little frustrating to have made a several thousand dollar investment here with a newest Apple computer and sotware recently and nothing wants to work right. I fully expected that with all the latest that I wouldn't have such basic problems - such that Nothing works for making videos!! Why??? What is the direct way to get it to work? If I had experienced these sorts of problems when I started using iMovie to create videos so well a couple or three years ago, I would have thrown my hands up and abandoned the whole process. I had great success until this last half year or so with video production using Apple software and machines.
How does one do this right? Is Apple interested any more?
    Thanks.
