HP storage server management

Good-day, Are there any known issues with this software deleting files from source location during replication? thanks.

Hi,
Can you check windows event and see what error message appears?
I highly recommend you follow the HP Storage Management Pack for System Center User Guide.

  • I can't manage file and storage services in server manager.

I have a windows 2012 R2 server. I had turned on the file and storage services role and was able to configure a single share in server manager. A few days later I wanted to create another share but when I select file and storage services within server manager
I get the message at the top that says The server has not been queried for data since it appeared offline. Also there are no shares listed. Even though the shared folder that I already created is available from other computers.
If I try to create a file share anyway I am asked to choose a server to create the share on and the server appears in the list with a status of offline.
Now this may seem like an obvious connection issue however, I am trying to configure the server locally, not over the network. I can manage other services in server manager just fine. I have WDS and WSUS roles installed and can be configured with server
manager just fine. I only have a problem with file and storage services.
There are no errors in the event log.
I tried to remove the file and storage services role from the server but as soon as I uncheck the box for file and storage services I get a pop up windows that says:
The validation process found problems on the server from which you want to remove features. The selected features cannot be removed from the selected server. click ok to select different featres.
I lists validation results that simply state the name of the server and says "storage services cannot be removed."
How can I get file and storage services working again?

    Hi,
How many servers are there in the list? If the offline serve is a remote server, please reboot the remote server to see the result. In the meantime, please new a shared folded on the local server in Windows Explorer to see if the issue still exists.

  • Problems setting up Remote Web Access in Windows Storage Server 2008 R2

We just bought a WD Sentinel DX4000 Storage Server and went through the Remote Web Access wizard.  It setup the router just fine but when we got to the setup your domain name we have been having
headaches ever since.  We chose the option to use our own domain name, which we have registered through GoDaddy.  It then showed that yes, our provider was GoDaddy but then it told us we needed to update our service with GoDaddy so we clicked the
"Go to GoDaddy.com" button and it sent us to a page to purchase an SSL certificate.  So, we did that but then had issues with it not being able to be managed in our GoDaddy account.  So, I went into the domain name with GoDaddy and purchased
a certificate there and got it setup on the domain name with GoDaddy.
The problem is that when I try to go through the wizard again to set up the domain name I still have to click the goDaddy button to move to the next page where I type my domain name, username, and password
with GoDaddy.  I setup the remote extension in the A records with GoDaddy as remote.mydomain.com, and put in my username and password with GoDaddy.  After I click next it tries to connect to the domain name service provider but then gives me the
following error message over and over:
The domain name was not set up for your server.  Wait a few minutes and run the wizard again.
An unexpected or unknown problem occurred.  Please wait a few minutes, and then try again.
Well, I have tried this several times and am about to start pulling my hair out.  Can anyone please tell me what I may be doing wrong?
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

  • Active directory recycle bin in Windows STORAGE server 2008 R2

I'd like to find a tool that helps me to monitor deleted server files. I understand that this tool is called Active directory recycle bin. I can't enable it. I can't even open lpd.exe. I'm using Windows storage server 2008 r2 essentials. Could someone
help me with that? Thanks in advance.

In that case you must use a solution which combines Auditing
and Backup solutions. Just to know who has deleted a file or folder does not really help you. You must be able to restore the deleted file or folders.
If you need to find out at what time who deletes what file you should use auditing. Normally organizations enable auditing on sensitive data and folders to keep track who touches the stuff. Auditing is enabled in windows and by the administrator. Take a
look at the below links if you want to enable auditing on files and folders:
Use auditing to track who deleted your files
However do not forget that you need to have backup solutions in order to restore a deleted file in case someone accidentally or intentionally deletes a file or folder. Using System Restore with Previous Version feature may comes handy if you are dealing
with small number of computers. Otherwise you need to prepare yourself for a backup plan using Data Protection Manager as Denis mentioned or Windows Backup role (WBadmin) including in Windows Server 2008. More info on links below. I have included a video of
how to recover lost data using previous versions for you.

How can I fix this issue?

    Hi,
The issue could be due to the shadow copies on the backup volumes are corrupt. You could try to delete these shadow copies to check if the issue still exist.

  • Nexenta Storage Server - strange Error Message

    Dear all,
I try to add a nexenta storage box to my vdi.
When selecting the Storage Pool I get the following error:

I found some (two) other guys with the same Problem:
    http://nexenta.com/corp/forum?func=view&id=892&catid=9
This was left unanswered, but back then VDI didn't support comstar which is the only supported target software in nexenta.
    http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=136923
This one's a little more recent. AND like the originator states, COMSTAR is supposed to be supported in VDI now.
I'm using an all-in-one-box installation so I thought that like relling said the underlaying solaris my vdi is running on could be the problem.
Does anyone know how that "*.checkForPackage" works?
If its for a simple pkginfo there shouldn't be a problem.

    Hi trond,
    Thank you for your question.
If there are some effects in organization?
If there is an Edge server in organization?
If anti-virus was installed in Mailbox server?
We could make sure 'dc01.top.domain.com' can be reached without Network and permission issues.
From the error information, I suggest We refer to following steps to make sure if “MSExchangeECPAppPool“ is working on Exchange server in subdomain and top domain:
    Open “internet Information Services(IIS) Manager”;
    Navigate Exchange server name>Application Pools>MSExchangeECPAppPool;
    Check if “Status” is started.
If “MSExchangeECPAppPool“ is working, we could find the user of “S-1-5-21-4254754947-1089209485-357573216-20192” , then we could try to re-creating the user account.

  • Disks Not Displayed in Server Manager 2012 After Upgrade

I have two identical IBM x3650 M3 servers with the M5014 RAID controller installed. The internal SAS drives are configured with three RAID 5 logical drives, basically a C:, D:, and E:. They also have an external eSATA drive with a Silicon Image eSATA
card installed that is used for backup. Both servers were upgraded from Server 2008R2 to 2012R2. Both of the server's firmware was updated prior to the upgrade and are using the same versions.
On the first server, all of the RAID controller's logical drives are displayed under Server Manger > File and Storage Services > Volumes > Disks. All of the volumes on these drives and the eSATA drive are displayed correctly under Server
Manger > File and Storage Services > Volumes.
On the second server, all of the volumes correctly displayed under Server Manger > File and Storage Services > Volumes. However, only the first logical drive is displayed under Server Manger > File and Storage Services > Volumes
    > Disks. The other two logical drives are not displayed. The drives show up correctly under Disk Management and Device Manager. All of the data and shares are accessable and the server functions like it did before the upgrade. While it doesn't seem
critical at the moment, I would like to find out why the logical drives are not being displayed.

    Hi,
Did you have a failover cluster with a highly available storage solution that uses LSI MegaRAID controllers and use Server Manager to manage the storage using the LSI SMI-S storage provider? If so, the associated physical disks may not appear correctly in Server
Manager when you create storage pools or virtual disks from the storage pools.
To work around this issue, run the following Windows PowerShell cmdlet on all nodes, and then refresh the Server Manager UI:
    Update-StorageProviderCache –DiscoveryLevel Full

  • Storage Server 2012 best practices? Newbie to larger storage systems.

I have many years managing and planning smaller Windows server environments, however, my non-profit has recently purchased
two StoreEasy 1630 servers and we would like to set them up using best practices for networking and Windows storage technologies. The main goal is to build an infrastructure so we can provide SMB/CIFS services across our campus network to our 500+ end user
workstations, taking into account redundancy, backup and room for growth. The following describes our environment and vision. Any thoughts / guidance / white papers / directions would be appreciated.
    Networking
The server closets all have Cisco 1000T switching equipment. What type of networking is desired/required? Do we
need switch-hardware based LACP or will the Windows 2012 nic-teaming options be sufficient across the 4 1000T ports on the Storeasy?
    NAS Enclosures
There are 2 StoreEasy 1630 Windows Storage servers. One in Brooklyn and the other in Manhattan.
    Hard Disk Configuration
Each of the StoreEasy servers has 14 3TB drives for a total RAW storage capacity of 42TB. By default the StoreEasy
servers were configured with 2 RAID 6 arrays with 1 hot standby disk in the first bay. One RAID 6 array is made up of disks 2-8 and is presenting two logical drives to the storage server. There is a 99.99GB OS partition and a 13872.32GB NTFS D: drive. The second
RAID 6 Array resides on Disks 9-14 and is partitioned as one 11177.83 NTFS drive.
    Storage Pooling
In our deployment we would like to build in room for growth by implementing storage pooling that can be later
increased in size when we add additional disk enclosures to the rack. Do we want to create VHDX files on top of the logical NTFS drives? When physical disk enclosures, with disks, are added to the rack and present a logical drive to the OS, would we just create
additional VHDX files on the expansion enclosures and add them to the storage pool? If we do use VHDX virtual disks, what size virtual hard disks should we make? Is there a max capacity? 64TB? Please let us know what the best approach for storage pooling will
    be for our environment.
    Windows Sharing
We were thinking that we would create a single Share granting all users within the AD FullOrganization User group
read/write permission. Then within this share we were thinking of using NTFS permissioning to create subfolders with different permissions for each departmental group and subgroup. Is this the correct approach or do you suggest a different approach?
    DFS
In order to provide high availability and redundancy we would like to use DFS replication on shared folders to
mirror storage01, located in our Brooklyn server closet and storage02, located in our Manhattan server closet. Presently there is a 10TB DFS replication limit in Windows 2012. Is this replicaiton limit per share, or total of all files under DFS. We have been
informed that HP will provide an upgrade to 2012 R2 Storage Server when it becomes available. In the meanwhile, how should we designing our storage and replication strategy around the limits?
    Backup Strategy
I read that Windows Server backup can only backup disks up to 2TB in size. We were thinking that we would like
our 2 current StoreEasy servers to backup to each other (to an unreplicated portion of the disk space) nightly until we can purchase a third system for backup. What is the best approach for backup? Should we use Windows Server Backup to be capturing the data
    volumes?
Should we use a third party backup software?

    Hi,
Sorry for the delay in reply.
I'll try to reply each of your questions. However for the first one, you may have a try to post to Network forum for further information, or contact your device provider (HP) to see if there is any recommendation.
    For Storage Pooling:
From your description you would like to create VHDX on RAID6 disks for increasment. It is fine and as you said it is 64TB limited. See:
Hyper-V Virtual Hard Disk Format Overview
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831446.aspx
Another possiable solution is using Storage Space - new function in Windows Server 2012. See:
    Storage Spaces Overview
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831739.aspx
It could add hard disks to a storage pool and creating virtual disks from the pool. You can add disks later to this pool and creating new virtual disks if needed.
    For Windows Sharing
Generally we will have different sharing folders later. Creating all shares in a root folder sounds good but actually we may not able to accomplish. So it actually depends on actual environment.
    For DFS replication limitation
I assume the 10TB limitation comes from this link:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/csstwplatform/archive/2009/10/20/what-is-dfs-maximum-size-limit.aspx
I contacted DFSR department about the limitation. Actually DFS-R could replicate more data which do not have an exact limitation. As you can see the article is created in 2009.
    For Backup
As you said there is a backup limitation (2GB - single backup). So if it cannot meet your requirement you will need to find a third party solution.

  • Cannot run the big size exe file ( 900MB) on Windows Storage Server 2003 x86 SP2 OS(Hyper-V VM machine)

When I run a big size exe file(>900 MB) on Windows Storage Server  2003 x86 SP2 OS VM mchine(which is managered by Hyper-V server), I got the following error message:
Windows cannot open this program because the license enforcement system has been tampered with or become corrupted.
This setup.exe should be a trusted source because of it run other OS(windows 2003, windows 2008, 2008 R2 etc.).  we use the same way to create the exe whose size < 700MB, it works fine on the same machine(Windows Storage
Server 2003 x86 SP2 OS VM machine).  So I assume that the file size(>900MB) causes the problem, It seems that OS dont' support it.
    My questions:
    1. Is there the limitation of exe size to run on Windows
Storage Server  2003 x86 SP2 OS VM machine?  If yes, what is the size of limitation?
    2. What reason is this error? Is it related with Hyper-V?
    Thanks,
    Recky

Did you install the 2003 VM from scratch or did you create it via a P2V process?  In addition to what Shaon says about not all applications running properly in VMs, performing P2V to create VMs can also cause issues with a variety of things.
First thing to check would be Shaon's suggestion to try it in another VM.  If it works in another VM, and you P2V'ed this VM, try creating your Storage Server VM from scratch and try again.  Better yet, if the application can be run on a later version
of the OS, create a 2012 Storage Server instead of the 2003 Storage Server as your VM and give it a try.

  • Storage Foundation Manager

    Hi,
Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this question - if so please advise.
I've installed Storage Foundation Basic on some of my servers, and Storage Foundation Manager on one Solaris box to manage all the storage.
I easily got VEA on the manager to connect to the otehr hosts and do some basic volume management on them, but I cannot seem to get the actual Storage Foundation Manager web gui (on port 8443) to recognise my hosts. The inventory on there is full of 0s, and I can't see any obvious menu items to let me connect to my hosts or "discover them".
Has anyone used Storage Foundation Manager in a Solaris environment? Any advice welcome.
    Cheers,
    GXW

After installiing the SFM packages on the central server, you have to go to each of the managed hosts and migrate the managed host to report to the central server.
    try these steps
    -login to the manage host
    - cd /opt/VRTSmh/bin
    -./migrate central_mode -d <central server FQHN> -p <you agent password>
SFM 2.0 is releasing in a couple of days and there is no need to do anything on the managed host to get this reporting except installing the managed host package. You just install the CS packages on the central server and the managerd host package on the MH and you can add the MH to the CS using the webgui.

I would not do it... I mean hunting for Storage Server is pointless. For a reason: built-in restrictions make it unusable for anything else except storage management (what it was initially designed for).
(there are other important restrictions like being not able to be an Active Directory controller but they are irrelevant in the context of this topic)
Running more then 2 VMs is not supported. Having full-blown x64 server doing only storage and spending 1% of CPU time for that is... a bit questionable investment. System would be insanely resource over provisioned. Very bad ROI. See:

    Hi

    Regards
Short answer: No, not automatically. Long answer: Yes, it can be done but with some tricks. First you'll have to make your SAN export LUs built from flash and from spindles. At least one of each (see URL below). Then you'll have to build storage spaces (even
clustered but that's not officially supported for non-SAS disks) from them.
    See:
Configure Tiering with Windows Server 2012 R2
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askpfeplat/archive/2013/10/21/storage-spaces-how-to-configure-storage-tiers-with-windows-server-2012-r2.aspx
Both LUs would have non-SSD type reported so you'll have manually assign types with PowerShell what's flash and what's spindle.
"Notice that the SSD devices were detected as SSD media.  However, in this case the physical drives show as unknown.
If yours are not detected like in this example, they should be set correctly which can be done using PowerShell. "
    Hope this helped :)

    1 Distribution
points on this operating system are not supported for PXE.
    2 Distribution
points on this operating system version do not support Multicast.
    3 Unlike
other site system roles, distribution points are supported on some 32-bit operating systems. Distribution points also support several different configurations that each have different requirements and in some cases support installation not only on servers,
but on client operating systems. For more information about the options available for distribution points, see Prerequisites

  • LJ 3600 drivers for Storage Server 2008 not working

we have several LJ 3600 printers in our environment and would like to install these on our new server:
    Win Storage Server 2008-64-bit
but have had no success printing with any drivers out there.
I have certainly tried the host-based drivers
All I ever get is a page: @PJL SET JOBATTR=JobAcct4=20110426125259...etc
can you suggest a new driver to use?
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18...
thank YOU for any help you can offer!

    OK.
I can't help you with the drives then.  That is out of my realm of knowledge.  If they are marked healthy and active in the disk management utility, then that is all I know that they should be indicated.
    As for the graphics driver...
Download and install this free file utility.
    http://www.7-zip.org/
After you install 7-zip, right click on the graphics driver file and select 7-zip from the list of options.
Select 7-zip to Extract to: and let it extract the file into a folder.  I let it extract to the file name of the folder.
Then just follow the rest of my instructions to install the driver.
Of course you will first browse to where 7-zip has extracted the folder to, and proceed from there.

  • Tivoli server manager is going to be changed for backp and restore

    Hi
    All,
I have oracle database 10g 10.2.0.3 installed on AIX 5.3 server. I am taking bakup and restore in TAPE using RMAN. I have IBM Tivoli Server Manager as a media Management Software. All resources are locatesd at inhouse right now. the only thing that gonna be change is IBM tivoli server manager and TAPE. we will have NEW Tivoli server manager and TAP  at different location. Now I have backup and restore script available and TSM client installed on database server.
I have reviewed backup and restore script but I don't know what kind of change I have to do.
    So the main question is
Due to Tivoli server and Tape gonna be change
what kind of changes I have to do ?
where should I implement the change?
where can I find the useful information regarding configuration parameter for this kind of setup?
    any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Vishal

I don't know what version of TSM you are using, but you can check Backing Up Oracle Using Tivoli Storage Management and also check Configuring RMAN to Make Backups to a Media Manager.
