HPC ClusterTools 8.2.1

Hello,
I am very new to Solaris, in fact I am on day 2. I do have some previous experience with Linux, so not everything is foreign to me. I am in the process of setting up a SunFire X2270 cluster and am having difficulty getting ClusterTools to run, I think. I first installed SunStudio 12.1 and it seems to be installed properly. Next I downloaded and installed HPC ClusterTools 8.2.1. Everything seemed to go without error:

  • Installing HPC Cluster Tools on a Pentium D computer

Can I use HPC Cluster Tools 7 on a Pentium D computer?
On the Sun website it says it supports only opteron processors.
I installed it, however I wonder if it will work.
For HPC Cluster Tools 6 it says it supports x64 processors.
Is the Pentim D a x64 processor or is it not included in this category and it is a x86-64 processor?

    Thanks for your question.
ClusterTools 7 (CT7) is supported on available Sun machines based on UltraSPARC III or later and AMD Opteron. Hence, CT7 has not been tested on Pentium systems, so we cannot speculate on your success using the CT7 bits on Pentium.
However, please note that Sun is an active member of the Open MPI community. CT7 is based on Open MPI 1.2. Open MPI is supported by the community on a number of different CPUs, OS, and compilers, among which Pentium is included. I encourage you to participate in the Open MPI community by downloading the Open MPI bits. If you run Open MPI on your Pentium system, migration to CT7 on current or future available Sun systems should be easy. For more information about Open MPI, please visit

  • Excel HPC Slow Performance

    Hi,
I have been testing HPC Services for Excel as a possible way to speed up some slow-running Excel workbooks. However I have encountered a performance problem: Any cell-manipulating code inside the HPC_Execute method takes an unreasonable amount of time to execute
when it is being run on a compute node through HPC (0.67 seconds), whereas if I run the workbook on that same node as if it were a regular workstation that time becomes negligible (0.00 seconds). The compute node is an Azure A2 VM running Windows Server 2012
    R2 with Excel 2010 and HPC Pack 2012 R2.
The workbook will (eventually) calculate the output of the workbook correctly, and the HPC Head Node is having no trouble splitting up the workbook into jobs for the nodes to process. I know that having cell-manipulating code in the HPC_Execute method is a
bad idea, but removing that code will take too much effort and I can't find any reason as to why it would be running this slowly.
Are there any known issues that would cause cell-manipulating VBA code to run slower than normal inside an Excel workbook on a HPC cluster?

  • Windows HPC - unable to shutdown nodes from Node Manager

I have a small Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 cluster that we purchased and asked for it to be a "Turn Key and Go" type deal, so we didn't configure it. The annoyance I am having is that I can't reboot or shutdown the compute nodes from the Node Management
window of the Head node. So when I need to do that, I have to remote desktop into each one (which for some reason take about 5 minutes from the head node,) and shut them down like that.
Does any one have ideas on where to start? I checked, all the firewalls have allowed File Sharing, which I saw some where needed to be on in order to do this.
When I ran "Shutdown-HpcNode" from HPCPowerShell, it gave me an error about bad username or password, so I think it might have some configuration problem.
(this was the first Windows HPC the vender had ever done, so their configuration settings might not have been perfect, but on the whole, this is a small problem to have.)
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Based on your description, this issue seems to be more related to Windows HPC Server 2008 R2. I suggest that
you should post this question in

  • Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 HPC on a blade server for a 32-bit app

    Hi,
My Windows 32-bit simulation program runs on Windows 7 - 64 on an ordinary desktop PC
I am thinking of installing Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 HPC Edition on a blade server to hopefully speed up the simulation.
I wonder if there would be a significant change in the simulation time with either OS.
    Looking forward to your advice
    Regards,
    Jeremy

You posted your inquiry to a hardware forum.
Which blade server do you own?
Do you have a question on any specific hardware component in that system?
Perhaps we could point you to that system's documentation
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/documentation/index.html
if you told us which hardware you own.
Frankly, you need to go find a Microsoft-centric forum and ask your question over there.

  • Excel Cluster Connector for Microsoft HPC Pack 2012 R2 load error

    Hi,
I tried to load the 'Excel Cluster Connector for Microsoft HPC Pack 2012 R2' but get an error 'A runtime error occured during the loading of the COM Add-in'.
    My environment:
    Windows 2012 R12 Std edition
    HPC Pack 2012 R2
    Excel 2010 - 64 bits
I have generated a Fusion file (see below). Has someone an idea what went wrong? I already tried to copy 'Microsoft.Hpc.Excel.XllConnector.DLL' to 'C:/Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office14' but that did not help.
    Thanks.

  • Connecting iMac with Mac OS X Tiger to an HPC with Windows CE via modem

    Hi,
I have an iMac G3 DV 400MHZ with Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.6 and a Compaq C140 HPC with Windows CE 1.0. I dont have the original serial cable for the device and therefore cant connect it to my iMac (like its Mac compatible anyway!) I want to connect it to my iMac via modems (no not ethernet modems the antique modems with the phone wires!) so I can transfer files to it. In case you have never heard of an HPC or Windows CE (which is real similar to Windows 95) lets pretend Im trying to connect a Windows 95 PC to my iMac for file transfer and see if that works.
    Thanks

Try posting this under hardware section, you will get more response there. I doubt anyone here can help with that.

  • Providing configuration file for SQL 2012 Express installation which installing HPC 2012 R2

    Hi guys,
I need to know if there is any way to provide configuration file for SQL 2012 Express installation which installing HPC 2012 R2?
I am scripting installation on HPC 2012 R2 with default SQL 2012 Express edition but I am not able to find any option to provide a configuation file for SQL 2012 Express installaiton.
    Thanks,
    Vivs.

    Hi Vivs,
As my understanding, you want to generate a configuration file and install SQL Server 2012 express edition using that configuration file.
If that is the case, firstly, you could generate the configuration file following the steps below since express edition is run in AutoAdvance mode which skips "Ready to Install" page.
1.Double-click SQL Server installation file in your local drive, you will see that the file will be extracted to a temporary folder. Please make a note of what directory it is extracted to. For example, it could be in c:\ followed by a folder name which
will be a set of random letters and numbers "gy7h8hjhhj67rfs7".
2.Cancel installation. Then click on the Start button on the task bar, click run, type the command cmd.exe, and go to that directory via cmd.
    3.Execute the following command: setup.exe /ACTION=INSTALL /UIMODE=Normal
4.Follow the wizard through to the 'Ready to Install' page. The path to the configuration file is specified in the 'Ready to Install' page in the configuration file path section.
5.Cancel the setup without actually completing the installation, to generate the INI file.
Secondly, to install SQL Server using Command Prompt, go to the SQL Server installation media root (the temporary folder) from the command prompt and specify the ConfigurationFile.ini as a parameter as shown below.
    Setup.exe /ConfigurationFile=ConfigurationFile.INI
For more information about the process, please refer to the article:

  • Powerbook 1400 infared able to connect with Compaq HPC C140?

    Hi,
I have a Powerbook 1400c/133 and I want to get some use of the infared by attempting to connect my HPC which I have never even transfered one file to by any source even cable through infared. How do I do this? Thanks The HPC is running something made by the worst company in the world (Windows CE) and the Powerbook is running something made by the most advanced and best company in the world (Mac OS 9.0.4)

    Hi Mr.Eddy,
I dont know for sure if the HPC is IRDA complient (Its from 96) but I am dying to do something with my HPC because I cant find the cable that I need and this thing has a hugew 133MHZ processor! Ive had it for awhile and all I can do is play solitare and show off by pretending to reiceve Email with its email feature even though I dont ave a wireless card. I ordered a Global Village PC Card for my 1400 do you think it will work in my HPC as well (yes the hpc does have a PC card slot) You mayt finf this hard to believe especially since I love Apple so much but I think that my Compaq HPC is alot better then my Newton)

I have 2 systems with pretty close to the same bios Feature. My question is a quick one, and I hope a simple one?
What is HPC-I know it stands for High Performance Computing-I know that it has to do with the throttling, under load.
What is the exact reason for this? Why was it added to the bios? Is this just for FX cpu's

When enabling in Bios-with everything on default-do you just enable? Do you need to turn anything off-C & Q? or do you just turn in on and go?

HPC locks the multiplier for the CPU at maximum setting so it has no LAG when asked to do a demanding job as its already running at maximum performance levels and doesn't have to wait for the CPU to realize that it needs to up the clocks from idle clocks(powersaving mode) to high performance clocks!
if you want no delay in performance thats what HPC is for as it will hold the CPU at its full clocks all the time...
as for C & Q that should be disabled as it may interfere with HPC mode and continue trying to throttle the CPU to lower clocks and voltages! if C&Q is off just enable HPC and it should function properly!

  • HPC Pack 2012 R2 Installation

I'm trying to install/upgrade from HPC Pack 2008 to HPC Pack 2012 R2 in a multi-domain enterprise environment.  The installation does some prerequisite checks before installation will proceed. It gives a warning and a failure.
The warning is because the FQDN of the server does not match the domain. This isn't insurmountable, I can temporarily rename the system during installation if needed so the FQDN matches the windows domain.
The failure which is stopping installation from proceeding, is that it's telling me my account I'm running installation from is not a domain member because all servers get joined into an OU in COMPANY.COM while all user accounts are sectioned off into REGION.COMPANY.COM,
trusted subdomains in the AD forest. The server belongs to COMPANY and my admin ID belongs to REGION. All trusts between domains have been verified using netdom. I think the installer checks are just very basic not accountings for this.
I created our HPC Server 2008 system in this environment with no issues, but it seems the HPC Server 2012 edition installation didn't take into account for enterprise environments like this.
Is there any way to fix this so I can proceed with installation? Changes to my working environment or installation credentials are not acceptable solutions.

Are you using SAN switches? If so whose, what F/W level and what configuration, (ie. single switch, cascade of multiple switches, etc.)
What are the distances from nodes to storage (include any fabric switches and ISL's if multiple switches) and what media are you using as a transport, (copper, fibre {single mode, multi-mode})?
What is the configuration of your storage ports, (fabric point to point, loop, etc.)? If loop what are the ALPA's for each connection?
The more you leave out of your question the harder it is to offer suggestions.

  • HPC 2012 R2 Heat Map CPU usage view

    Hi,
Im new to HPC cluster, and we have a customer that is wondering why the Heat Map and CPU usage View does not show any information, is there a service that we need to restart that may have failed ? If we restart any service will that have any impact on the
    jobs that are runnings ?
    /Regards Andreas

    Hi Andreas2012,
The HPC different with Failover cluster event it use part of failover cluster mechanism, there have a specific forum for the HPC support, I suggest you ask in HPC support
    forum.
    More information:
what different with failover cluster and HPC, can i install the SQL server on HPC for high availability?

  • Arch Builds / HPC with AMD/ATi

Hi all, I have some questions to ask and would value your input back.
I am going to be building a new PC, specifically to aid in my graduate thesis work in computer science, so I need to upgrade from my measily Centreno Duo laptop (side note: its never run as well as it does on that its on Arch: you all have a convert now) so that I can approach GPGPU programming.  My initial idea was to just save for an i7-920 and some Nvida cards but money is tight (being a grad student and all).  However after seeing the most results from the most recent SuperComputing confrense I have seriously given thought to an AMD/ATi combo.  Now historically I've been a fan of AMD but not ATi, and when I got into it system building years ago ATi stunk building drivers for windows let alone linux.
My serious question is those that are using ATi, are you noticing at least pretty linear increase in quality of driver release, or at least close.  I'm going to ignore the open source driver mostly because if I buy a 400$ graphics card for HPC and a lesser extent HD video processing, I want it to bloody work, not wait a year or two for half implimentation.  Please note that I do wish to see the open source drive be on par or better but right now, I'm trying to graduate in spring 2011 so timing is pretty critical.
Any thoughts about the subject I would love to know since I'm at that point of system building where I need to select the parts that are dependent on each other a lot.
    Thanks,
also if this needs to be moved to another board please do so.

Eh, I'm using Catalyst right now and it's not giving me any problems like it has in the past, but their support simply isn't even close to Nvidia's. Besides the fact than Nvidia's drivers always work better, Catalyst often takes a while to support new Kernels and new versions of Xorg (I'm still on Xorg 1.6.x). The open source drivers work fairly well if you want to mess with a bunch of git packages. I had it working good for a while, but then it stopped working so I just installed Catalyst. Go with Nvidia IMO, though AMD CPUs still rule ATI is getting better though, and aside from having to use the old Xorg, it's not giving me any problems right now.
