HSRP Interface Tracking Question

I have a pair of 7206 routers for Internet access.  The Internet was provided over OC3, and used interface POS1/0.  I just upgraded the Internet to Ethernet so now the interface is GigabitEthernet 0/3.
I just discovered that there there is another interface that uses POS1/0 as an HSRP tracking interface.  So my question is:   Can I just remove the old tracking interface and add the new one? Or is there another prefered method to do this?
My current HSRP interface:
interface GigabitEthernet0/1.21
 description INET
 encapsulation dot1Q 21
 ip address x.x.x.x 255.255.255.240
 ip broadcast-address x.x.x.x
 no ip redirects
 ip accounting output-packets
 ip flow ingress
 ip nbar protocol-discovery
 no snmp trap link-status
 standby 1 ip x.x.x.x
 standby 1 priority 105
 standby 1 preempt
 standby 1 track POS1/0
Thanks!

While it is correct that you can just change the HRP interface to track the Ethernet interface be aware that it may not work quite the same way. With POS and most serial interface implementations if communications with the peer is lost then the loss of keepalives will change the interface state to line protocol down and that is what the interface tracking is looking for. However with an Ethernet interface if you lose communication with the peer the interface may still be in a line protocol up state. In that circumstance interface tracking will not detect the problem.

  • HSRP Interface Tracking on ATM Sub-Interface?

I want to enable HSRP interface tracking to monitor an ATM sub-interface. As I understand it, when using the (standby 1 track <interface>) command, the HSRP group priority will be decremented only if the line protocol goes down on the interface being tracked. For this reason I need to track an ATM sub-interface (i.e. atm1/0.77). I am wondering if this will work properly. Has anyone ever used this configuration successfully?

    Hi Friend,
I find no reason why it should not work?
When it work for serial subinterface and frame relay interfces it should also work for atm subinterface.
I have implemented in serial subinterface.
Yes it should work fine. Go ahead and implement and update the status.

  • HSRP / interface tracking and not only…

    Hi All,
HSRP provides nice feature of tracking an “external” interface, while taking decision with regard to active HSRP router election.
What I would like to ask you is as follows:
In my network all routing decisions are based on Layer2 protocol (NSAP addresses in ATM). On a top of this, I have pure IP network without any dynamic routing protocol (neither OSPF nor BGP is not supported on ATM boxes). Now I would like to bring ATM interface down for a gateway, which does not work as an active HSRP router.
As I mentioned before Layer2 takes a decision for traffic a traffic flow. I’m afraid under certain circumstances traffic may hit ATM interface attached the standby router. So what next? Won’t be properly routed via HSRP pair. Is my understanding correct?
I would like to have activated only one ATM interface running on active HSRP router, on the standby line protocol should be down. When HSRP re-election process takes place, newly activated router becomes active and in the first order changes protocol line to active. Is that possible?
Just as a last remark, ATM interfaces are monitored (tracked) only. Standby group is configured on Ethernet ports.
    Regards,
    Artur

    Hello Artur,
HSRP 'tracking' feature is solely to take down the 'HSRP STATUS' to up or down and it has no bearing on the actual line protocol state of the interface.
So if you desire that HSRP should bring down the ATM interface, then that is not possible. HSRP tracking would only change the 'priority' of that interface and not bring it down/up.
Let me know if i understood and answered your question correctly,

  • Bfd support for vrrp interface tracking query !

    Hi All
I have a requirement in my typical LAN scenario whereby my LAN server connects in a dual homed fashion to two different LAN switches from a third party vendor. We are using vrrp for the server LAN. The two 3rd party vendor switches are uplinked via L3 links to two c6500. We are tracking the uplink interfaces under vrrp such that no traffic blackholing occurs if the uplink connectivity from master is broken. Now customer has asked to use bfd support in the vrrp uplink interface tracking which is supported by the vendor switches. This topic is confusing to me as what configuration would be required on c6500 to achieve this as the requirement is not to configure bfd for routing protocol but for vrrp interface tracking. As per my understanding BFD works only in integration with routing protocols and there would be no session formed by just enabling BFD under Interface Config. If anyone has any prior experience with implementing such setup please guide me on what needs to be done from c6500 side to achieve this. We are using static routes on c6500 for server LAN reachability and default route on vendor switches towards junos but no bfd for static routing.
    Regards Varma

    Hi Varma,
your understanding is correct, initially we were supporting BFD in conjunction with BGP/IGPs. Nowadays there's BFD support for VRRP in IOS XR and BFD support for HSRP in IOS. Since you're in multivendor environment, I don't think these options are feasible. You may instead apply subsecond hello timers in VRRP, provided you don't have lots of instances, you should not face a performance burden.

    Ivan.

  • Router HSRP Active/Standby question

    Hello,
Can I use following command to setup HSRP Active/Standby mode for both router ?
    Router A:
    ip address 10.10.228.202 255.255.255.248
    standby 3 ip 10.10.228.201
    standby 3 preempt
    Router B:
    ip address 10.10.228.203 255.255.255.248
    standby 3 ip 10.10.228.201
    standby 3 preempt
    standby 3 track 1 decrement 10
    standby 3 track 2 decrement 10
    Thanks

    Wilson,
we don't know what objects you're tracking, so it's a little bit difficult to answer the question.
You use the default priorities on both routers (100), so, as long as track objects 1 and 2 are up, Router B will be the active router, because it has the higher IP address.
If track object 1 or 2 goes down, Router B's priority will be reduced to 90 (or 80 if both are down at the same time),  so Router A will become active, because preemption is enabled.
If the track object(s) change to up, Router B will take over again, because it also has preemtion enabled.
    Correction:
Preemption only comes into play when the local priority is higher than the priority of the current active router. In your examle, the priorities on RA and RB have the same values. The IP addresses serve as a tie breaker only in the initial phase, the preemption feature doesn't consider the IP addresses later on.
Consequence: Router A continues beeing the active router.

  • What would you do? Interface/HD question

This post is similar to others made before but they have not covered my exact question. Anyway,
I use an ibook g4 with an edirol firewire interface (10 channel). I need more hard disk space so i would like to get an external hard drive. Do you suggest i get:
    1) A usb 2.0 hard drive
    2) A firewire hard drive, daisy chained to the firewire interface.
If so what should i look for in terms of specs?
I do normal sized recordings (bands) so not too many tracks, however i tend to use a lot of reverbs and compressors etc.
Specific brands/models would be good too. Cheers

Considering that USB2.0 is a bit faster than firewire, there is a chance that it may work, but to be honest, you would have to try it to see if a USB2.0 drive could carry a heavy load of data back and forth. Of course, if your iBook doesn't have USB2.0 (the latest ones do), then I wouldn't even consider USB in that case.

  • Acrobat 9 PRO - Forms Tracker Question

    1. When distributing a form via acrobat.com to multiple targets, can I keep email addresses confidential from individual members on the distribution list?
    2. When distributing a form to multiple email addresses simultaneously, is it possible to create a distribution file for each email address on distribution (vs. just 1 file)?
    3. Is there a way to create a more meaningful distribution file name than simply file + "0001"? For example, can I use information about the distribution targets (e.g. email address) to name the file?
    4. Is there any tickler functionality (e.g. If I haven't heard from this person in 7 days, remind me)?

I would also love answers to these questions.
Livecycle and acrobate seem pretty useless whenit comes to tracking and creating unique IDS for form distribution - they expect you to buy Livecycle ES and runa server!
Also there seems to be no documentation about the Javascript(?) that is added when you use the distribution wizard, such as the askuseridentity and askemailclient methods - You would have thought that this would be the basis for at least a tutorial! see below.

  • Message Tracking Question

We installed a C150 in our office and we enabled Message tracking on the day we installed the device. However when we try to find messages all the way back to October (the 13th, the day we installed it) there were no results found. At the top of the message tracking page we have this:
    Available Time Range: 13 Oct 2008 15:04 to 23 Dec 2008 12:50 (GMT -0500)
Data in time range: 99.98% complete
Is there any way we can track messages back that far?
I do have a support case open, but I wanted to see if anyone else has that issue.

The following article is in the knowledge base:
Earliest 15% of Tracking Data Is Not Currently Available for Querying
    Question
Why does the "Available Time Range" appear to be missing the oldest data?
    Answer
This is a known centralized message tracking issue in which the earliest 15% of tracking data is not currently available for querying. However, the appliance retains the data, and the data will be available for querying after this issue has been resolved.
A future release will provide access to 100% of the time range in the tracker database.
    This is Defect ID 39471.
Hope this will explain your problems (the only way to find the missing part is via the CLI-find/grep command).

  • Motion tracking Question

I have a shot that is panning and asit pans a television will come onto the screen. My plan is to corner pin an image on to the TV. The problem is there is nothing to pin the image to until my trackers on the TV enter the screen. I just did a quick test and tried keyframing until I get all 4 trackers on but It's not as smooth as I would like it to be.
I read a post here about using the offset track but I didn't really understand what the poster was saying. Could anyone give me any quick "Motion Tracking for dummies" explanation of what I need to be doing? Also- we haven't shot the shot yet so is there a better way to do this setting up four trackers- one on each corner of the TV?

Yeah- I studied up on that. I've actually talked the DP into changing his shots around so the TV is always on screen. I figured I would leave the question opened for future use. Thanks

  • Relational interface, basic question

Hi, I have over a million images stored in a blob column.
We are using oracle 8.1.7 and forms 6.0.
We do have intermedia installed on the database but it is not
    used in this application.
The images were inserted as TIFF's through a form.
    Question.
Intermedia Relational interface be used to change the
compression setting of the TIFF images? using the process()
    method?
Can Intermedia Relational interface be used to change the image
format of some of the images?
    Thank you
    David Wilton

    Rajiv,
I like your suggestion of using the process method from a stored
procedure without having to install intermedia relational
interface. I'm not sure how to assign the ORDSYS variables to
the blob. David, please see the example below.
    Our problem:
We have some TIFF images compression: CCITT group 3 and 4
    (lossless compression).
Some of these images cause the forms application to crash upon
display. Forms bug, oracle sent me an oneoff for patch 9 for
forms 6i to see if this corrects the problem, it did not.
Using Forms, If I update the record and resave the image as
image type JFIF, the image can be viewed without problems.
I think when the image is saved as a JPEG some of the discarded
information might be what causes the image to crash the oracle
forms application. Therefore it no longer crashes the
    application.
I am wondering if I can change the compression settings of these
problem images to JPEG and keep the image as a TIFF. or change
to a JPEG image and jpeg compression save then possibly convert
    it back to TIFF.
David, if I understand your scenario correctly, your client
application is having a problem displaying certain TIFF images.
You want to modify these (by changing compression/deleting tags
etc) so that your client can display them correctly.
You should try changing the compression of these images from
CCITT 3/4 to PackBits or LZW first before trying JPEG.
In your case, using JPEG compression will explode the size of
the image data (CCITT is monochrome whereas JPEG will use 8bits)
and the image quality will also deteriorate.
If on the other hand I misunderstood your scenario and you are
having a problem with our TIFF reader with certain images, please
send us a sample problem file to investigate this further.
Here's the start of my procedure
how do I assign the ordsys variables to my blob?
    thank you

  • Autonomous APs' non-root radio tracking Questions

    Hi guys,
As you know, we can configure an autonomous AP that is using its .11a radio as "non-root bridge" and its .11b/g as root to track the .11a radio so that if it is down for any reason, then it will shut down the Root Radio. I've some questions about this if someone tested the below scenarios:
    (1) If the .11b/g radio has been shut down, will it stay shutdown and never comeback unless an administrator do it manually? Is there an automated feature like the switches 'errdisable recover cause' method?
    (2) Is there a command like 'show fallback bla bla ..' that will allow us to see that the current radio state has been shut down due to radio tracking?
    B.Regards
    Mahmoud

Yes, these model you can configure as Root/Non-Root as long as you have an autonomous image loaded. Most of the time feature is depend on the software code.
Release notes available at below URL for details of the supported/unsupported features of each software version.

Here is one basic config example of Root/Non-Root using different AP model, but it may help you to get basic config done for these AP model as well.

  • Webdav - user management - web interface - some questions

    Hi,
after browsing several hours to find any answer to my questions regarding webdav and lion server unsuccessfully i decided to raise theses questions collected here in this forum.
    1. Is there a web interface for the webdav folder coming along with lion server? If no, where can i get one
(similiar to e.g. idisk within mobile me)
    2. how do i setup user for webdav. My users which i setup within the server app didn't work
    3. is this (http://gigaom.com/apple/how-to-enable-webdav-on-your-mac-for-iwork-on-ipad/) the only way to setup user for webdav? how can i use the users which i setup for webdav?
    thanks in advance
    cheers
    tobi

You can set up a "share" (or point to an already created one) that enables Webdav for IOS devices in Server app.  For example:  we have 260 students that have their "home" directories listed at /Student_home.  Go into Server app, select file sharing and choose the "share" that you want to enable webdav.  Click the edit pencil and under Settings select Share with IOS devices (webdav).  Then on your device use the URL http://your.server.com/webdav/short_user_name.  If you have SSL turned on for web, you'll need https.  Authenticate with the short name and password of user.  This works with iPad, iPhone, Macs and Windows Desktops (windows you'll need to Map a network drive).
So Johnny Brown grabs his iPad with Pages, says get document from Webdav and is presented with the login:  Enters https://myserver.com/webdav/johnnybrown for the server,  johnnybrown for username and whatever for password.
You could also make a share for a group "dropbox" to share documents and such.  Lots of possibilities.
I haven't messed around with the profile manager but I believe that PM will attempt to control this for each device registered to each user.  If so, you'll have to enable sharing with trusted certificates in the PM.  Since we're using this in an educational environment and don't have enough iPads, the students have to share which means that we can't assign one device per individual.
    Hope this helps

  • Firewire audio interface comparison question

hello, i been comparing interfaces and have a few questions. some of them are 24bit/96khz and some are 24bit/192khz. im looking at 2 brands in my budget.
    http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/PreSonus-Firestudio-26x26-Firewire-Record ing-System?sku=241848
    http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Focusrite-Saffire-Pro-26-IO?sku=241135
because im new to recording im not sure i would even hear the difference between the 96khz and 192khz. big numbers looks better on paper but i could be wrong. im hoping someone may have compared these already and have info for me to guide my purchase. thanks for any help

They can take advantage of the higher sample rates
Can you hear a difference? I could probably find a dozen web pages that say it's possible and another that say it's not.
I would use the highest sample rate I could, but I would not base a buying decision on 96k vs. 192k unless the other features I were interested were identical.
Recording, Mixing, and Mastering technique can trump hardware.
    As an example, go here:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/BBPages/History/History.html
and listen to the Real World sample, and then the Shine sample. One was recorded with a $30 interface, the other with an (at the time) $800 interface.

  • Iterator Interface.A question please.

I am unable to grasp the meaning of the following below :
As we all know,Interfaces have abstract methods,(ie methods that
have no body) and any class that implements the Interface has to
implement the methods defined in the interface. That is,write the body for those methods.
    So far so good.
Now coming to Collections called Vector.
We have the 'Iterator' interface implemented by the vector class.
The Iterator interface has the methods hasNext(),next().
and we have the following code in the our class which iterates thru'
    the vector:
    MyClass item;
    while(iter.hasNext())
    item = (MyClass)iter.next();
    // Do something here.....
Now we are using the methods hasNext() and next() above.
But as they belong to the Iterator interface,(which means they
are basically methods with no implementations) then how is iteration
possible? We havent defined anything in the hasNext() method or the next()
so how does Java automatically start iteration
Has any one understood my question?Arent hasNext() and next() supposed
to be methods with no body???
If I am saying iter.hasNext(),that means hasNext() has been defined
somewhere to iterate thru the vector?
I am just confused regarding this issue as to how is hasNext() and next()
being implemented as I as the programmer have not implemented them
    in my code
Please can some one answer my question?
    Regards
    Ajay

    Thanks Will.
Regarding the question, then why define an Iterator interface when
the collection class implements the functionality?
Why not define the methods hasNext() and next() in the Object
    class?
So by default, all classes extends the Object class ,we
cud use the hasNext() and next() method?
    No??? Or am I wrong?

  • Interface tracking

    Hello,
Please can someone confirm what the following does.
    track 1 interface GigabitEthernet0/0/0.1101 line-protocol
    ip route vrf V411:test 10.12.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.9.1.10 name test track 1
will this take the static route out of the routing table if interface gig0/0/0.1101 goes down?
i thought the static route will still be removed if the interface goes down?
    Thanks

If that's the only interface that route is accessible through, then there really is no point. Many times, the route could be learned from a dynamic routing protocol, but you'd rather use the static first. I have some in this scenario where I use a static route if a loopback is up, but I also learn that route via bgp from another source. I'd rather use the static first, but if the loopback is to go down I want to use the bgp route. My situation is a little different though because I'm pinging through a vpn tunnel to this loopback which means that my route would always be up unless my next hop (which is local to the core switch) were to go down. I track the ping in sla and then track that. My static route points to the track, and when it goes down I can then use the route that's in the bgp table.
So in your example, if the interface goes down and it doesn't have any other way to the route, then the route will leave the routing table. If for some reason, you were want to track the route on the other side of the gateway, I would use sla and track that to verify that the route is up by some other means should the 10.9.1.10 address always be up. Does that make sense?
Sorry for my short response above...I was doing that from my phone...
