Interface tracking

Hello,
Please can someone confirm what the following does.
track 1 interface GigabitEthernet0/0/0.1101 line-protocol
ip route vrf V411:test 10.12.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.9.1.10 name test track 1
will this take the static route out of the routing table if interface gig0/0/0.1101 goes down?
i thought the static route will still be removed if the interface goes down?
Thanks

If that's the only interface that route is accessible through, then there really is no point. Many times, the route could be learned from a dynamic routing protocol, but you'd rather use the static first. I have some in this scenario where I use a static route if a loopback is up, but I also learn that route via bgp from another source. I'd rather use the static first, but if the loopback is to go down I want to use the bgp route. My situation is a little different though because I'm pinging through a vpn tunnel to this loopback which means that my route would always be up unless my next hop (which is local to the core switch) were to go down. I track the ping in sla and then track that. My static route points to the track, and when it goes down I can then use the route that's in the bgp table.
So in your example, if the interface goes down and it doesn't have any other way to the route, then the route will leave the routing table. If for some reason, you were want to track the route on the other side of the gateway, I would use sla and track that to verify that the route is up by some other means should the 10.9.1.10 address always be up. Does that make sense?
Sorry for my short response above...I was doing that from my phone...

John

  • HSRP Interface Tracking Question

I have a pair of 7206 routers for Internet access.  The Internet was provided over OC3, and used interface POS1/0.  I just upgraded the Internet to Ethernet so now the interface is GigabitEthernet 0/3.
I just discovered that there there is another interface that uses POS1/0 as an HSRP tracking interface.  So my question is:   Can I just remove the old tracking interface and add the new one? Or is there another prefered method to do this?
    My current HSRP interface:
    interface GigabitEthernet0/1.21
     description INET
     encapsulation dot1Q 21
     ip address x.x.x.x 255.255.255.240
     ip broadcast-address x.x.x.x
     no ip redirects
     ip accounting output-packets
     ip flow ingress
     ip nbar protocol-discovery
     no snmp trap link-status
     standby 1 ip x.x.x.x
     standby 1 priority 105
     standby 1 preempt
     standby 1 track POS1/0
    Thanks!

While it is correct that you can just change the HRP interface to track the Ethernet interface be aware that it may not work quite the same way. With POS and most serial interface implementations if communications with the peer is lost then the loss of keepalives will change the interface state to line protocol down and that is what the interface tracking is looking for. However with an Ethernet interface if you lose communication with the peer the interface may still be in a line protocol up state. In that circumstance interface tracking will not detect the problem.

  • Bfd support for vrrp interface tracking query !

    Hi All
I have a requirement in my typical LAN scenario whereby my LAN server connects in a dual homed fashion to two different LAN switches from a third party vendor. We are using vrrp for the server LAN. The two 3rd party vendor switches are uplinked via L3 links to two c6500. We are tracking the uplink interfaces under vrrp such that no traffic blackholing occurs if the uplink connectivity from master is broken. Now customer has asked to use bfd support in the vrrp uplink interface tracking which is supported by the vendor switches. This topic is confusing to me as what configuration would be required on c6500 to achieve this as the requirement is not to configure bfd for routing protocol but for vrrp interface tracking. As per my understanding BFD works only in integration with routing protocols and there would be no session formed by just enabling BFD under Interface Config. If anyone has any prior experience with implementing such setup please guide me on what needs to be done from c6500 side to achieve this. We are using static routes on c6500 for server LAN reachability and default route on vendor switches towards junos but no bfd for static routing.
    Regards Varma

    Hi Varma,
your understanding is correct, initially we were supporting BFD in conjunction with BGP/IGPs. Nowadays there's BFD support for VRRP in IOS XR and BFD support for HSRP in IOS. Since you're in multivendor environment, I don't think these options are feasible. You may instead apply subsecond hello timers in VRRP, provided you don't have lots of instances, you should not face a performance burden.

  • HSRP Interface Tracking on ATM Sub-Interface?

I want to enable HSRP interface tracking to monitor an ATM sub-interface. As I understand it, when using the (standby 1 track <interface>) command, the HSRP group priority will be decremented only if the line protocol goes down on the interface being tracked. For this reason I need to track an ATM sub-interface (i.e. atm1/0.77). I am wondering if this will work properly. Has anyone ever used this configuration successfully?

    Hi Friend,
I find no reason why it should not work?
When it work for serial subinterface and frame relay interfces it should also work for atm subinterface.
I have implemented in serial subinterface.
Yes it should work fine. Go ahead and implement and update the status.

  • HSRP / interface tracking and not only…

    Hi All,
HSRP provides nice feature of tracking an “external” interface, while taking decision with regard to active HSRP router election.
What I would like to ask you is as follows:
In my network all routing decisions are based on Layer2 protocol (NSAP addresses in ATM). On a top of this, I have pure IP network without any dynamic routing protocol (neither OSPF nor BGP is not supported on ATM boxes). Now I would like to bring ATM interface down for a gateway, which does not work as an active HSRP router.
As I mentioned before Layer2 takes a decision for traffic a traffic flow. I’m afraid under certain circumstances traffic may hit ATM interface attached the standby router. So what next? Won’t be properly routed via HSRP pair. Is my understanding correct?
I would like to have activated only one ATM interface running on active HSRP router, on the standby line protocol should be down. When HSRP re-election process takes place, newly activated router becomes active and in the first order changes protocol line to active. Is that possible?
Just as a last remark, ATM interfaces are monitored (tracked) only. Standby group is configured on Ethernet ports.
    Regards,
    Artur

    Hello Artur,
HSRP 'tracking' feature is solely to take down the 'HSRP STATUS' to up or down and it has no bearing on the actual line protocol state of the interface.
So if you desire that HSRP should bring down the ATM interface, then that is not possible. HSRP tracking would only change the 'priority' of that interface and not bring it down/up.
Let me know if i understood and answered your question correctly,

  • Redundancy in physical interface tracking .

    Hi ,
We are managing almost 20 ACE in different location in HA mode . Right now the configuration is for redundancy in  ft group and ft track in user context and this redundancy are working well good . My new requirement is to track the physical interface in admin context ,where my  ACE designed  to track only the  interface vlan now in user context  .
When two interface goes down in the ace , failover should happen to secondary . where all the four interface is bundle in single port channel . when two interface goes down , load in the port channel  will be increased  to avoid this , any redundant configuration is there ?  to switchover the active role to secondary .
    Regards ., Gopinath Vedagiri

    Hi,
If a port in a channel goes down, it is treated as a link failure and its traffic is transferred to one or more of the remaining ports in the channel by design.
But one option is to track a neighbor router IP with the host tracking option (not used with port channel though) .

  • XSI (Express Shipping Interface)

I've heard and read many different things about XSI - the express shipping interface - and I have some questions.
    1.  Do we need a carrier manifesting system to use XSI with SAP?   (For example, if we use carrier UPS, do we need a Worldship system? If we use carrier Fedex, do we need a Fedex server? )
    2.  XSI is an Interface, it's in the name - what does XSI interface <u><b>with</b></u>?
    3.  Is Fedex really available through XSI?  Fedex doesn't promote XSI like UPS does. Is other middleware required to ship Fedex parcels through XSI?  (I've read several different answers on this, on these forums.)
    4.  How big a role do IDOCs play in XSI ?   (Can a tracking number be assigned real-time, or is IDOC-time as fast as it gets?   Does any printing happen through IDOCs?  Does all printing happen through SAP handling-unit outputs?)
    5.  What is SAP's future direction on express shipping? (Will XSI be continued or expanded?  Will express shipping be handled through xCarrier in the future?)
    6.  Could someone walk me through the process?  1. create a HU, 2. pack the HU, then what?  How does the XSI interface assign the tracking number?   How does the label print?  When/how is the tracking number updated in the SAP delivery/parcel tracking?  When/how are electronic/end-of-day transactions sent to the carrier?
    7. Is there any way when using XSI to enable an interface to a scale, to automatically receive the package weight from the device?
    8.  Printing and barcodes - what are XSI restrictions?   Are SSCC-18 barcodes supported?  What about RFID ?
    Thanks much for your help,
Maureen Farrell    (<i>I do have XSI technical documentation.zip</i>)

Visited another pharma company and heard these answers -
XSI has no functionality without a parcel application to interface <u>with</u> .  XSI doesn't assign tracking numbers or service levels.
Through use of the XSI interface, tracking numbers and package status can be made visible in the SAP delivery.
If you use only one carrier, or an XSI-enabled multi-carrier system, you'll need one XSI interface.  More than one carrier, more than one interface.
Next year SAP may possibly introduce xCarrier, but schedule/features/relationship to XSI) are not clear to me.
If anyone has heard differently, I would appreciate hearing about it.

  • ACE redundancy tracking and failure detection

    Hello,
I have configured redundancy on a pair of ACEs, and looking now for the most approriate method of failure detection.
In the admin guide, 3 possible methodes are explained: host tracking, interface tracking and HSRP group tracking.
I don't have HSRP configured on the Supervisors in the ACEs chassis, the default gateway is on other chassis, so HSRP tracking is not an option.
The ACEs are configured in routed mode.
I have 1 VLAN with all VIPs, and 4 server VLANs.
    There are 2 contexts active.
I was thinking of tracking all 5 VLAN interfaces + tracking the default gateway on client side.
Would this be a good approach?
thanks in advance for your input.

    Hi ,
The ACE supports a maximum of 4,093 VLANs per system and a maximum of 1,024 shared VLANs per system.
Alos note that the ACE supports a maximum of 8,192 interfaces per system that include VLANs, shared VLANs, and BVI interfaces.

  • How do I import classes in a jar file?

I have the following directory structure, each directory is a seperate package of the same name as the directory
    RPGUniversal
    RPGMap
    RPGCharacter
RPGCharacter is not done yet so I am ignoring that package for now.
RPGCharacter and RPGMap both depends on classes inside the RPGUniversal Package, but are independant of eachother and RPGUniversal is completely independant.
I want to place each package in it's own .jar file for use as a library in later programs.
I placed all the compiled classes for RPGUniversal inside the proper directory structure, I then used this command to place it in a jar:
    jar -cf ./RPGUniversal.jar ./RPGUniversal/*
I then tested the contents with this command:
    exodist@Abydos:/stuff/JProject/test$ jar -tf RPGUniversal.jar
    META-INF/
    META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
    RPGUniversal/ADTs/
    RPGUniversal/ADTs/t1.jpg
    RPGUniversal/ADTs/t2.jpg
    RPGUniversal/ADTs/t3.jpg
    RPGUniversal/ADTs/t4.jpg
    RPGUniversal/ADTs/Coordinates.class
    RPGUniversal/ADTs/RPGImage.class
    RPGUniversal/ADTs/FrameSet.class

    RPGUniversal/Exceptions/
    RPGUniversal/Interfaces/
    RPGUniversal/Interfaces/RPGCharacter.class
    RPGUniversal/Interfaces/RPGItem.class
    RPGUniversal/Interfaces/RPGObject.class
    RPGUniversal/Interfaces/Trackable.class
    RPGUniversal/Interfaces/Tracker.class
    RPGUniversal/Interfaces/RPGMapComponent.class
    RPGUniversal/Interfaces/RPGMap.class
so far all good, next I delete the RPGUniversal directory leaving the only file in the current directory RPGUniversal.jar
next I create the RPGMap directory and give it the proper .java files and directory tree.
I then run a script to compile every .java file
    for i in `find ./ -name "*.java"`; do javac "$i"; done
and I get a ton of dependancy errors:

  • ASA - New HA Design - Limitations

    hey folks,
I have these two brand spanking 5540's which would be configured in a HA design(Active/Standby)
The only bugger is this client has no spare IP's which can be used on the inside nor the outside.
Yes, all I have been given is two IP's(inside and outside)
I plan to use gig4 for command replication and monitoring
Yes, the design is such that these two new ASA's would be a second layer of security.
Now, is it absolutely necessary to have a secondary IP on the inside interface for the failover to occur or just a standby IP on the dedicated management interface is enough for the failover to happen?
Also, can someone let me know where ASA support interface tracking and punishing the active or standby device to give-up it's active state?
    thanks.

    Hello Mikull,
For a good desing ( Check the status of all the network interfaces) you do need it as failover is based on the exchange of hello packets between both the primary and secondary boxes.
Any other question.. Let me know.. Just remember to rate all of my answers.

  • Suggestions to UCS improvements for experienced customer

I am soon doing my first audit for a experienced UCS customer (not the best idea, I know). I assume everything is correctly setup with the latest fw and software.
Does anyone have a suggestion of a commonly overlooked factor in a UCS setup that I can check for this customer?

I can give you a few things to check.  Some features will depend on the version of UCSM as well.
-Review all Faults & Audit logs, fix what you can
-Review Resource Pools usage, highlight any close to depletion
-Review all FW levels including BIOS, ensure everything is at a uniform level.
-Check for unused-configured interfaces.  (Perhaps enabled, but not cabled).
-Check for Core files.  Could indicate a past or present issue
-Ensure SEL logs are being backed up regularly and cleared to an external server
    -Ensure Syslogs are enabled
-Audit user accounts.  Are they using a single "admin" account of using RBAC. Give users min. access to perform their jobs. Accountability when using remote authentication or 1:1 local user accounts.
-Ensure Call home is configured & enabled
-Review license usage & future expansion requirements
-Verify if Mgmt interface tracking is enabled
-Review uplink configuration.  Are they using individual links or Port Channels for better aggregation.
-Is QoS being implemented or could improve bandwidth usage
-Are templates being used (vNIC, Service Profile etc) to ensure consistency with deployments
-CDP enabled on vNICs?  Helps with Tshooting CDP capable hosts such as vSphere.
That should get you started on a check list...

  • Single CSS L3 link redundancy

I have a single CSS11506 whose job is to load balance 4 web servers. I have two 1Gbps uplinks to the network - each goes to an L3 only 6506. I need enable the second link for failover purposes. How can I fail over to the second link with the following considerations in mind
    1. Users still need to get to the same vip address(http) 2. No routing protocols enabled on the CSS 3. The rest of the network needs to understand how to redirect to the secondary link 4. The primary link comes back up after the link is restored 5. How to get around the rule that two uplinks cannot be in the same vlan

"5. How to get around the rule that two uplinks cannot be in the same vlan"
I don't believe there is such a rule. You can have both uplinks configured with the same VLAN. This is normally used to bridge traffic "through" the CSS though. I've never tried dual-homing a CSS as I have dual CSS's in all of my production implementations.
I'd try configuring both uplinks for the same VLAN, and configuring an HSRP VLAN on your 6509's. The HSRP hello traffic would pass through the CSS to get to the opposite switch. i.e. treat the CSS like a regular access layer ethernet switch.
With VLAN autostate and/or interface tracking on the 6509, a failure of an uplink would cause the backup HSRP partner to go primary and the traffic would begin taking the other link.

  • What connectors do I need for my ipad so I can connect it to my apogee duet 2 interface essentially using the ipad as an instrument utilizing a few of the synth and drum machine apps to record tracks into Logic on my Mac?

Ok, so I completely feel like this is a stupid question for those of you already in the know and recording tracks onto your Computers DAW from instrument apps on the iPad and other i devices. I can not seem to find out exactly what connector or unit I need to be able to connect and use my ipad as a instrument to record tracks onto logic. I have an ipad2 that I want to connect to my apogee duet 2 interface which is obviously connected to my Mac. I know Logic comes with plenty of drum and synth options but I still want to be able to use beatmaker, jam up pro and the sunrizer synth apps on some of my tracks. I do have the camera conversion adaptors. So my question is, do I just run from the camera adapter in the ipad into the midi port on my apogee interface? (I'm new to and still learning about midi) Or is there a special 30 pin cable I need to get that runs from the ipad into the XLR or quarter inch in the break out cables on the apogee? I did find one cord out there that plugged into the ipad and had left and right XLR connectors but my duets break out cable only has two inputs each is their own channel. Also , if the cable I need isn't midi  and does connect to the breakout cables, do I set it as an instrument or as a mic in the apogee software? Or am I completely way off base and needing something different all together. Any help would be much appreciated!
I have a fare amount of experience when it comes to recording, set up and the flow of standard instruments, using external hardware and plugins. But the last few weeks I spent a lot of time programming some great beats in beatmaker on my ipad and I want to track them into Logic. It seemed like no matter how I worded the questions when researching what I thought was and should be simple to figure it out, it just took me to answers I wasn't looking for. Thank you ahead of time. Like I said I'm just starting to get out of my comfort zone and learn about midi and the more digital side of things. So sorry about any ignorance concerning that side of things.

The new Apogee Duet for iPad and Mac, is compaible with iOS devices and includes a USB Midi input. This sounds like the perfect solution for your workflow.

  • Report to track changes to infotypes prior to running the  payroll interfac

wants a report to track changes to infotypes prior to running the  payroll interface.  The attached report looks like it should work but it returns nothing.  Is there config that turns on "Track Changes": for select infotypes?  If so, can they be activated for key infotypes so this report will run?
    Name, Address, position, etc.
    Not attendance and absence ITs.

    Hi,
IMG – Personnel Management – Personnel Admin – Tools – Revision – Set up change document:
    This node has three items:
    Infotypes to be logged
    Field Group Definitions
    Field Group Characteristics
Using these three options you define which infotypes you wish to log, then which fields, then you define which groups of fields are to be saved. Click each link, or see the sections below:
    Infotypes to be logged
Here you define which PA infotype numbers you require logging. Select New Entries and enter a transaction class (A for Pers Admin, B for recruitment), then enter the infotype number and save.
    Field Group Definition
When changes are made to a logged infotype, the field contents before and after are recorded. This is the very reason for logging the infotype, but there is an overhead in performance and disk space used so it needs to be given consideration. Typically you will want to record fields that are pay relevant.
Using the field group definition, you specify which fields you wish to record changes in. When any of the fields in the group are changed, all the fields in the group are saved. You can use an asterisk to log all the fields of the infotype but this is not recommended for space and performance, also there are many fields on an infotype that you will not be using, that will be saved also. Ideally you will pick individual fields of the infotype and enter them like so:
The field group number is a freely defined number you allocate to the group, it will be used in the next step. For normal use, simply pick any number not already used in that infotype. All fields with the same field group number are recorded in the log, even if they have not changed.
Click New Entries and enter the infotype number, field group number and field names that you wish to record.
    Field Group Characteristics
When you have set up the field group numbers, use the field group characteristics to activate the logging of those fields. You can also specify a supplementary field group; this means that the contents of another field group can also be saved at the same time, even though the contents have not changed. In practise it is not used much. Simply select new entries, enter the transaction class, infotype, and in the DocFieldGr enter the number you assigned to the field names that you want to store, then enter L for Long Term Documents (short are not supported)
    The Audit Report
To access the report showing the logged infotype changes, use the HR report tree available from various menu paths, including:
Main Menu – Human Resources – Pers Management – Administration – Info System – Reports - Documents – Infotype change – logged changes in infotype data. (RPUAUD00).
When you run the report, select the infotypes you require, and select and execute.
    Cheers

  • I am using Logic Pro 8, I interface with a firepod, got a new firestudio project, but I can only access 10 tracks at a time to record enable, anyone?

I know the two interfaces have synced, but I just can't seem to pull up more than 10 tracks in the input channel drop down. If any one has any idea , I would love to hear about it.

CCTM, Hello my friend, I wanted to thank you for your support with this issue, Your screen shots, and the tricks and tips book I have helped me set up the aggregate device, I now have 20 inputs and 20 outputs as it should be.
Thank you again, respectfully Eric King.
P.S. As I work my way through the two Logic Pro 8 series books from apple, I am sure I will have more questions, hope to speak with you again. Have a wonderful day .
