HT1148 Office for Mac 2011 upgrade

How do I direct the Office for Mac 2011 service pack 2 where to find the program which isn't installed in the applications folder?

Hi,
For exerything to work correctly, I would put the Office 2011 folder is in the Applications folder. But there might be an option in the installer to select a different  destination for the update if you have the Office 2011 folder located somewhere else.
Next, open Word and go to the help menu and come down to Check for Updates and follow the setps to download the latest update.
Hope this helps.

The new Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 system requirements state that my computer must have "HFS+ hard disk format (also known as Mac OS Extended or HFS Plus)." How do I know if my 2004 G5 has this? Thanks!

Office 2011 requires "A Mac computer with an Intel processor" and your G5 only has a PowerPC processor.

Here is a very easy possible solution, worth trying before uninstalling Office. It worked for us so hopefully might work for you.
We installed Yosemite on a test machine to check for problems. Office 2011 for Mac ran and still does run fine on that machine with Yosemite.
As a result we installed Yosemite on our main machines. At the same time we updated Office for Mac 2011 using the latest update 14.4.7. It was at this point that Office started crashing every time a document was opened.
    Solution that worked for us.
1 Using Font Book (comes with your Mac) we removed all duplicate fonts. We selected the automatically remove option.
    2 Restart computer.
    3 Shut down computer.
4 Restart computer in 'safe boot' to do this:
    a) Shut down the computer.
    b) Press the power button.
    c) Immediately after hearing start-up tone, hold down SHIFT key.
    d) Release SHIFT key after Apple logo and progress indicator appears.
    e) Once computer has opened, restart the computer without holding down any keys.
5 Hopefully all should be ok now. Your machine might run a little slow for a while as it rebuilds caches etc but all ours were back at full speed after a few minutes.
    Best Wishes
    Bob

  • Upgrading from Office for Mac 2011 Home & Student to Home & Business

I just switched from PC to Mac and bought my first Macbook Pro. I also bought, from Apple, Office for Mac 2011 Home & Student version without realizing that it didn't have outlook. I am going to upgrade to the Home & Business version to get outlook. Should I completely uninstall teh Home & Student version before upgrading?

    Contact Microsoft it's their product.

  • With my Lion OS, if I upgrade to Office for Mac 2011, it will not work?

LIke the title says, with Lion OS, even if I upgrade to Office for Mac 2011, I will still be unable to use word docs. The reason it bothers me so much is that I need both my mac.com email and the ability to send Wrod docs to my publisher. I feel stumped.

even if I upgrade to Office for Mac 2011
That implies you haven't upgraded yet. Yes?
I will still be unable to use word docs.
Why would you presume that? You'll be able to open and create any Word documents.

  • HT203300 Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 no longer syncs contacts and calendars after upgrading to Yosemite

Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 no longer syncs contacts and calendars through iTunes after upgrading to Yosemite. It worked fine until I made the mistake of upgrading. Help!?

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The usual results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor.
The many "failed" or "killed" warnings that etrecheck sometimes spews are not a reason to reinstall the OS.
The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What other changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

  • Outlook (office for Mac 2011) not working with Mountain Lion

Ever since I upgaded to mountain lion outlook (office for Mac 2011) takes 2 minutes to start up. Apple support tells me that MSFT has not done its work. SO I don't recommend anybody who is using outlook to upgrade.

  • Office for mac 2011 /i cloud

    Hi,
I thought that office for mac 2011 would be sorted in every way but I always had problems with multiple calendars and events.
I have turned off catagorie calendars and work now with just one. This seemed to solve it until I went to Mobile me when it started up all over again. So I dumped M/Me and the problem stopped again.
Now I have i cloud and here we go again ! Office reminders  is now running through the last five years of all events and I am dismissing them on a daily basis ( over 2,500 so far and running)
Any ideas how to solve all this or if not solvable revert to i Cal  and recommend an interpreter that will reverse engineer  my contacts to a suitable format for i Cal
    Regards
    David

I do have a mult-user license.  I realize I have posted this query in the wrong forum.  I am now browsing some posts specifically related to to MS Office 2011 for Mac.  One strange aspect to this problem is that Excel not only fails to function and demands a product key, but it refuses to quit, requiring a power-off reboot.  It seems most likely that this is some sort of profound glitch needing a reinstall, complicated becuase I may not have saved the correct product key.  I bought a paid upgrade to Office 2011 -- a three-user site license -- and that disk jacket may be with my son in Chicago.  I'm about to buy a new one.

  • Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 Standard Issue

The first time a user loads Office for Mac it runs the first time launch which creates that users preference files so unless you run it for each user then they will receive those prompts. As for the DB issue I would probably run a permission repair on the startup disk as well as ensure that you run Office updates for each user (I have seen a few installs that require an update run for each user for whatever reason).

AfternoonWe are in the process of upgrading our iMac and in doing sowant to make use of Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 Standard (Volume License). Our iMac’s arejoined to a Windows domain, therefore several users will be using them daily. Our iMac’s are currently running Yosemite 10.10.4, and Office2011 has had all its available updates applied. However every time we logon as a different user, Officebehaves as if it has been run for the first time. Users are prompted for name, organization, updates, CIP etc…In addition, after the user has gone through the above steps, the user is then greeted by the infamous message that the Office database hasbeen damaged and that it needs to be rebuilt. Users can ignore this message butit’s still an inconvenience. Is there any way we could customise the installation so thatthe end users do not receive these...

  • Office for Mac 2011 very slow

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion shortly after it came out, Office for Mac 2011 has become a real pain to use.  I can use Excel or Word once without a problem, however, after that opening another Office document takes about ten minutes or will not open at all.  Closing and reopening Office does not fix it either.  I must completely restart my iMac.
I have been thru all the Forum threads I can find and implemented them.  These include deleting problem fonts from the Font Book and reinstalling Office.  I still have the problem.
    All updates are current.
If anyone has other ideas how to fix this, I would greatly appreciate comments.
    Thanks.

I discovered I had bookmarked the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article #2398768, the same one you referenced above.  Since I bookmarked it I am pretty sure I used the process.
Among my numerous efforts to fix my Office problems I definitely ran "Remove Office 2011 Uninstaller.pkg" which I downloaded and still have.  It was supposed to remove all elements of the Office install but had the usual caveat that there was no guarantee.  It is remotely possible I discovered the Knowledge Base Article later and just bookmarked it for future reference.
I believe the whole process took almost two hours on my last effort. This was largely due to the reinstall recommendation of rebooting after installing every Office update.
I don't know, I guess I will try the Knowledge Base article process on the small chance that I did not do it already.  I need to do something because based on how I use Office the current slow load/no load problem is a real issue for me.

  • Fusion drive solution to activate Office for Mac 2011

Activating Office 2011  is a known issue for Fusion Drive Macs.
Activation is tied to the drive. According to Microsoft the solid state part of the Fusion Drive generates a new disk id every time the Mac is started. So Mac Office thinks it a new system at each startup and will require activation.
This solution was suggested by Microsoft Support. Please let us know if this works for you.
Follow the steps below to remove the “Thunderbolt bridge”:
    1. Click on the Apple icon and click on “System Preferences”
    2. Click on “Network”
    3. Look for “Thunderbolt Bridge” on the left side.
    4. Highlight the Bridge and click on the “-” sign to remove it.
    5. Restart the computer and enter the Product key for Microsoft Office. Restart again.

I don't normally advocate users re-install Office to fix an issue but in your case I think it's worth a try. The Mavericks update seems to have fixed the issue for most users. I would suggest the complete removal rather than the simple removal of dragging the Office folder in Applications to the trash.

How do I sync from ical and address book to office for mac 2011 in outlook?  icloud is turned on, sync is turned on in outlook and in itunes.  Email working fine in outlook, but no contact or calendar information.  Microsoft said it is an Apple issue.  They said icloud is not compatible with Outlook.  I have OS Lion if you need to know that.

  • Office for Mac 2011 - can't open old files

I am currently on Mac OS X v10.6.8.  I recently installed Office for Mac 2011.  I cannot open some of my old files.  I think the ones that use the old file names, e.g. .doc and .xls, rather than .docx and .xlsx.
Can anyone explain how I can open these files in my Office for Mac 2011?
    Many thanks!

  • Office for mac 2011 not working correctly on new Macbook Pro- Help

I have a MacBook Pro from September and had One to One transfer all files/programs (including 2008 Office).  I then purchased the Office for Mac 2011 program and they installed it (I guess they did not remove the older program).  It has never worked correctly and I have tried to contact Microsoft to no avail.
None of the documents open with Fonts intact (Word and Excel open up blank though the graphic elements show up.  I have to Select All and choose a font to make it show up.
Powerpoint is barely functional (none of the layouts actually show up when I select them, the sidebar of slides does not update as I type or try to change themese, etc.  And then when I type, the program freezes and then shuts down.
I have uninstalled 2008 and 2011 and then re-installed 2011 but the same issues occur.  Someone on the microsoft community told me to remove my duplicate fonts, I ddi that and the same issues still occur. My brother has the same laptop and Office for Mac 2011 and no issues.
Can someone help me basically try to start fresh- should I uninstall again? (I waas told that installing/uninstalling too many times can further the problem).
    Help!
