HT1338 Checking/updating operating system +pages

I don't know how to update my Mac operating system and I don't know which one I have. Help!
I wanted to buy the latest 'pages' but appstore told me I couldn't on this operating system.

1. You appear to have Mac OS X 10.6.6, 10.6.7, or 10.6.8. Try purchasing Mountain Lion 10.8 from the Mac App Store. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU with at least 2GB of RAM, and if it does, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7. Also see below.
2. If you don't want to or can't upgrade the computer's OS, buy an iWork 09 package from a source such as Amazon or eBay.

You have both Pages 5.5.2 and your older version of Pages on your Mac .
Pages 5.5.2 ids in your Applications folder.
Pages '08/'09 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
When you double click on a file either version may open, but usually the older, and it can not open files from the newer version.
Right click on the file instead and choose which version to open from.

  • HT1338 attempting to update operating system software on Macbook Pro with OSX 10.4.11 what is the cost and how

attempting to update operating system on macbook pro with osx10.4.11.
how is this accomplished and what is the cost ? is the worth the expense give the age of unit?

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is once again available from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.

  • HT4623 Can't update Operating System

I need to update operating systems but the option is not in my General menu.  Any idea what I should do?

The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, if you have iOS 4 then you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11). You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes (on iTunes 11 you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button
    Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
An iPad 1 will update to iOS 5.1.1, an iPad 2 and 3 to iOS 6.0.1

  • I updated operating system to OS X but I have updates for Mountain Lion which are already updated through OS X, can the updates be deleted?

    First Timer
I had Mountain Lion prior. I just updated my operating system to OS X  (Version 10.9.2) last evening. This morning I have updates for Keynote, Numbers and Pages whick were already updated with new OS X. It is not a huge deal, but I have 3 updates showing in APP Store which will not update because they are associated with the old system. This will bother me. Is there a way to remove the old available updates from App Store without removing the newly updated versions?  I am far from a knowledgeable computer person so if there is a solution, could you please respond in simple terms. Thank You.

Do you have a connected external HDD that has the older versions of these apps installed on it?

  • HT2292 Original iPad - how to update operating system

I'd like to update the operating system on my original iPad. I just don't have the options on my screen that every tutorial I've seen shows. What do I do? I'm so so so frustrated and am to the point where I never want to own an Apple product again. I've never updated my operating system in the past. I wouldn't now except for the past several months my apps have started to not work and can't be updated until I have at least an os5. Ugh!

Consider this: the first iPad is not supported by any new iOS version. See here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_iOS_devices (scroll down to Highest Version of iOS supported).
There you read that the 1st iPad can only be updated to iOS 5.1.1. If you already got 5.1.1 on it, then you can't go higher.
If the apps stop working, just do not update them. Problem is once they stopped and deleted the older version which already worked, you can not go back, because you usually don't get your hands on old app versions, except you kindly ask the app issuer.
But you can check the MEDIA folder of iTunes where the apps are stored. If you still got any older version of an app, you can delete the new version and add the old one by moving it to the "Automatically add to iTunes" folder.

  • Cannot download updated operating system

I get an error message every time I download the updated 4.3 operating system. The file will download, but when it begins to process the file, an error message pops up.  The message says that my network settings are wrong, but I am not connected to a network.  How do I change the settings so I can update my original ipad to the new system.

There are often problems with anti-virus or firewalls during an iOS update. Try downloading the file to your hard disk from the relevant link on the page below (these links are direct to the Apple server).
Then, connect the iPad to iTunes and, instead of clicking the update button, alt-click (Mac) or shift-click (Windows) to get a dialog allowing you to navigate to the file your downloaded.

  • HT1338 App Store - Operating Systems

I am trying to download iBooks Author and it is not compatible with my operating system.  I am trying to figure out if there is anyway to download older versions of applications or if there are any other options.   I have only had my MacBook for 2 years and I am very disappointed that I cannot get some of the new apps because because my operating system is too "old".  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank-you.

Please try each of the following steps you haven't already taken, until the issue is resolved. After each step, relaunch the App Store and try again.
    1. Follow the instructions in the Apple Support article linked below:
Mac App Store: Cannot update App Store purchases or updates do not seem available
    2. If any App Store purchases were made under a different Apple ID, or if the bundled iLife applications were accepted under a different ID, sign in to the App Store with that ID to update.
    3. Alternatively, delete the probem applications and re-download them with the ID you're using now. If you haven't already purchased them with that ID, you'll have to do that first, because purchases can't be transferred from one account to another.
    4. Select the Purchased tab in the App Store window. If you see an item in the list marked "You have 3 apps to accept," click Accept.
    5. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window may open with a file selected. If it does, delete the selected file. You may be prompted for your login password.
    Then repeat step 4.
    6. Select
    Store ▹ View My Account
from the App Store menu bar, then select View hidden purchases. If you're trying to update any hidden purchases, unhide them.
    7. Launch iTunes and select
    Store ▹ Authorize This Computer
    from the menu bar.
    8. If you've moved any App Store apps out of the applications folder, or into a subfolder, put them back. Never move or copy those applications.

  • Can't import homeshare music onto laptop, updated operating system now Itunes wont open at all.

I have an older desktop where the majority of our itunes library is.  I have been using a new laptop where I have downloaded new music to our same itunes account.  Today I turned the desktop on and turned on HOME Sharing in itunes, where the music did show up on my laptop.  I clicked to select all songs but the import button was not highlighted and would not allow me to click it. So I decided to update the operating system to the most current on my desktop, since it has not been used/updated for over a year.  Now Itunes will not even open when I click on it, it just bounces up and down and stops.  I updated the flash player and that did not help.  Now I cant open ITUNES  and homeshare dissapeared on my laptop. My ultimate goal would be to get all the music for itunes off the desktop and on my laptop  Can anyone please help me?

Do you get an error message when you try to open iTunes? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.)

  • Having problems with Facebook on my ipad2. Updated operating system. Problem started before that and continues. Can't click on like or make comments. Sent email to Facebook. Their response was that they don't answer individual emails but read them. Sigh!

Stated above, I have issues with Facebook and my iPad 2. I have updated the operating system, but the problem started before that. Can't click on like or enter comments. Problem started about a week ago. Sent email to Facebook and they responded that they don't answer individual emails but read them. Lots help that was.

Facebook is basically broken, at least as far as it pertains to mobile browsers. THey changed something in their coding and now mobile browsers don't work with facebook. ANd their app, well their app has been less than stellar for a long time.
Unfortunately, it's up to facebook to fix things, not apple. All you can do is find work arounds. Look for third party apps, I have one called Facely HD which seems to work reasonably well (even though it does seem to not see all posts). There may be others that work better. You can also simply not access facebook on your mobile until they fix it.
It's all on them and users can only be patient or find other ways to work around it.
