hi, my firefox and safari are both having difficulty loading certain parts of web pages. previous to this my firefox would freeze and state that a script was not responding. i would stop the script and reload the page and everything would be fine. now though the pages just load very very slowly or load leaving out certain pictures and video content. i've tried clearing my cache's and cookies, resetting my browser etc, but it seems like its a system issue as both safari and firefox are having issues. i've run Avast to screen for malware and it came up empty. any suggestions?

10.4.8's been a pain for Networking... not sure of all the reasons though, or whether all the complaints might not be MS working around Bugs/Non-compliance, but at this point I think you should get Applejack...

After installing, boot holding down CMD+s, then when the prompt shows, type in...
applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
Fixes a lot of problems, and besides, if your Mac ever gets to the point it won't Boot... this is a life saver!
After you run that... let's see where we are.
BTW, several ISPs seem to have trouble with their DNS Servers lately, might try these insead...

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History). Then try closing the app completely : from the home screen double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it (and Facebook app if you are using that and not accessing it via Safari), and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Upgraded to 4.2 and now Mail and Safari are VERY SLOW...

For some reason since I upgraded to 4.2, both my email and safari are MUCH slower than they were before. Web pages take longer to load and when the Mail program checks for mail it takes forever. I checked out our internet connection (cable modem and Airport Extreme) and the connection is still very fast using our computers. This slowness issue is ONLY with the iPad. Has anyone else noticed internet speed issues with 4.2? ; Is there any solution? I have tried switching on and off the wifi option on the iPad and even restarting the unit but nothing seems to help.

Hi Steven,
Tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings.
Restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
Sometimes resetting to default factory settings can help a connection issue.

No noticeable speed differences running the four latest OSs on my machine.

Internet explorer should be installed by default and should work, even if it is old.
Is your computer itself (the Windows XP Operating System) and other programs crashing, not just Firefox ?
You may need to check you Hard Disk drive is ok, and what amount of space has it in GB and as %

I am afraid you have come across the Live Rectangle bug which is limited to the MAC versions starting with 10.7 and 10.8, but not 10.9 (Mavericks), see this thread linked to below.

So a switch to Mavericks with a reinstallation might be the way to solve it here and now.
To get round it in each case, it is possible to Expand the Live Rectangles to get normal old fashioned rectangles, or to Pathfinder>Unite, or to use the Scale Tool.
A more permanent way round that is to create normal old fashioned rectangles, after running the free script created by Pawel, see this thread with download link:

Impossible for any of the included apps to be deleted from the iPhone, which includes the iTunes app and Safari.
Settings > General > Restrictions.
If Restrictions is enabled, is Safari and iTunes turned on as a restriction? If so, turn these off.

Try This:
Open up the imessage app on your Imac. Once you have it opened go to top left corner of your screen next to the apple picture and the word MESSAGES appears. Click on it then click on preferences and uncheck your husbands phone and number and or any other numbers which are checked. I had same problem this fixed it. Also if you wanted to you can open up your own Apple account, but that's not really necessary. My wife and I both share the same as you do
