HT1338 install java 6 on mac 10.8?

I use Netbeans for development and have tried 3 versions, however, they are always appearing blurry on my retina display. Further to this I have installed the latest version of java 7 which has made no difference.
From what I have read the only way to get Netbeans to display correctly on a retina display is to use java 6, however, prior to java 7 Apple managed java for Mac. I have been unable to find java 6 in the App Store or anywhere else for Mac.
How can I downgrade from java 7 to java 6?

I'm on Lion, not Mountain Lion, but I experienced the issue with the fonts too after upgrading to Java 7. On my system the Java 6 SDK is still available at System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk.
Since I still wanted Java 7 to be the default version and just change it for NetBeans, I edited the netbeans.conf file to tell it to use Java 6. To get to netbeans.conf, right-click on the NetBeans application and select Show Package Contents. Then navigate to Contents/Resources/NetBeans/etc and open netbeans.conf. Uncomment the netbeans_jdkhome option and set it as follows:
netbeans_jdkhome="/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Ho me"
The fonts should now be fixed (and when you go to NetBeans > About NetBeans it should show that it's running Java 6).
I'm not sure if this will help for Mountain Lion, but if it's just a matter of not having Java 6 installed, then you could simply download the Java 6 SDK from Oracle's site, or copy it from a Mac running Lion (or earlier maybe would work too).
And make sure you run Software Update first, since I know Apple disabled Java temporarily until the latest update, due to a security concern (although that may have only affected the browser plugin).

Since August 2012 updates for Java (and especially Java Runtime Environment, which is what you actually need) must now be downloaded direct from Oracle:

  • Can't install Java on my Mac OS X...

I had downloaded the installationfile, but now I cannot install the software on my apple. Can somebody help me?
    Thanks a lot!
    iSimon

You shouldn't need to download anything for Mac OS X as it ships with Java2 inbuilt. Install the developer tools that came with your OS X disc (assuming you want to use this environment to write your code) and away you go.

  • Howto about how install Java J2EE on MacOS Leopard ???

    Hi
Does anybody knows how i can install java j2EE on Mac OS Leopard???
And for example, if my computer have and old version of java, what are the steps that i need to do for update to the latest version?
I hope somebody knows, and thanks so much !!

There are many versions of [Java EE|http://java.sun.com/javaee/] (formerly known as J2EE) and many implementations of each version of JEE. If you're just using it to learn and have no other political, customer, management, or other requirements to worry about, I recommend using the [GlassFish JEE server|https://glassfish.dev.java.net/], which is [Java EE 5|http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/JavaEETutorial.pdf] compliant. I have not installed GlassFish on a Mac, but the post [GlassFish on Mac OS 10.5 Leopard|http://blog.ejeklint.se/2008/02/15/glassfish-on-mac-os-105-leopard/] looks useful. The [download page|http://java.sun.com/javaee/downloads/index.jsp] will even let you download the GlassFish implementation along with a new JDK (Java SE).

I recently did a system update and installed Yosemite on my Mac. Now I am unable to open CS5 at all. The error message I get is this: "To open Adobe Photoshop CS5.1, you need to install legacy Java SE 6 runtime." I have tried downloading this and it still gives me the same mess

In the details it is mentioned that it is an outdated version of Java.
Is this a security risk that i need to live with to get CS5 to run with Yosemite?
Also i need to reject messages from Java in the future about updates, or not?
    thx for any input

  • How do I install Java 6 on my Mac OS X 10.6.8?

Just purchased a GoPro3 and it needs an important update, however my Mac keeps telling me to install Java 6, but when I go to my Mac Software Update it tells me everything is up to date.

I got the same message when I updated my GoPro 3. Was pretty sure that everything was up to date on my Mac, but dowloaded it anyway. After the Java update was done the GoPro update worked.
You might try doing the Java update from the link provided via the GoPro process and see if it works.
Hope you enjoy your GoPro as much as I do!

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
Actually, you cannot download Snow Leopard. You downloaded a Snow Leopard updater.

    I have an iMac 11,3
Also, when I start my computer I have to wait for the bar to load which didn't use to appear some months before,is it something to worry too?
Thank you for any answer you might have

    Forthnet.192.168.1.254 router,ethernet connected
There is no apple store where I live that's a big problem...
Should I install Mountain lion or it's not preferable for my Mac?
Also I get this note no mountable file system whenever I try to install the updates, literally I can't install any update :/

I'm trying to download java on my Mac machine but the software update doesn't show me anything. Please advise what I should do to get the application.

If you can run it under chrome, you have java installed.
There was some malware that exploited an older version of Java (not javascript) running in a Browser. Since few people use it Apple turned off Java by default in the Safari Browser.
If you need it for something, just turn it back on in Safari preferences (inside Safari). After a few months of non-use, you may find it has turned itself off again.

  • Can't Launch Illustrator CS6 on my Mac and keep getting message to install Java SE 6

When I try to launch Illustrator on my Mac, it asks me to install legacy Java SE 6 every time. Even after installing Java SE 6, it still doesn't open up and keep asking me to install legacy Java SE6. How can I get Illustrator to open without this message?

i got stuck trying to understand the nuts & bolts of this post too but the answer is here on post #7 link in creating the two folders manually or by the Terminal routines
i put screenshots on my thread of the column views Pls just tell me how - CS6 Yosemite Java
as post #9 said, i am pretty sure you just manually create the new folders in the locations, give them the suggested names, and the OS will do the rest but i did mine through Terminal...
as a final redundant note, u probably don't want to install the legacy JAVA 6 on the Apple link because it's old, go to https://www.java.com/en/download/mac_download.jsp?locale=en  and install the latest version of JAVA (and be sure to update it in the future in case apple/adobe software updates don't find it for u)

  • HT5246 Why, if I have not installed Java, is Flashback malware a threat on my mac?

Why, if I have not installed Java, is Flashback malware a threat on my mac?

Older variants of Flashback did not rely on Java, and if you upgraded to Lion after becoming infected with a Java variant, you would still be infected even without Java.  (The malware itself does not need Java, only the installer for recent variants does.)
