I just download mountain lion to my mac,  now microsoft office suite doesn't work....it says 'you can't open the application 'microsoft word' because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.  What does this mean and what do I have to do to fix it?? HELP!!

Install Snow Leopard on another boot partition, or upgrade Microsoft Office to a newer version, or use any number of better alternatives. Some of them are free.
    Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice ($10)
    OpenOffice (completely free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft.

  • I downloaded Mountain Lion on my Mac Book Pro but when I go to install it, it says "OS X cannot be installed on Lion."   Any advice?

I downloaded Mountain Lion on my Mac Book Pro but when I go to install it, it says "OS X cannot be installed on Lion."   Any advice?

Right-Click the "Install OS X Mountain Lion" installer under /Applications and select Show Package Contents and drill down through the folders; Contents/SharedSupport.  Drag the InstallESD.dmg file to your desktop.  Grab an 8GB USB stick as the file is 4.35GB's and might not fit on a 4GB USB stick.  Then mount the DMG by double-clicking it and stick your 8GB USB stick in and that will mount then you can use Disk Utility to restore the DMG to the 8GB USB stick.  Then shutdown and reboot while holding the Option key and select the USB drive.  See if that will let you install Mountain Lion.
One more thing, you have to format the USB Stick first and ensure it's set to GUID mode (under Partition tab Options button) or it won't boot.

  • Can I download Mountain Lion if my Mac is a 10.5.8?

Can i download Mountian lion if my mac is a 10.5.8

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

Try resetting the SMC and the PRAM.
    1. SMC
Read this and follow the instructions for your kind of mac:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    2. PRAM
    Follow the procedure below:
    1. Power down the machine.
    2. Locate the following keys on your keyboard in preparation for Step 4:
    command–option–P–R
    3. Press the ‘power on’ button.
    4. Immediately – and before the grey screen appears – hold down ‘command-option-P-R’ all together.
    5. Keep them held down until you’ve heard the start-up chime twice. After you release them you should hear it again, and hopefully your Mac will boot up as it should normally.

This is probabaly caused by the resume feature. When you log out, uncheck the box that appears.

I have all my previous music files in wma formats from my previous PC Windows xp computer. And only two weeks ago I decided to purchase an iMac computer OS X Maverick, and there are a lot of files and information I would like to bring to the Mac, but I'm having problems playing my music file, suited to the PC but not with iMac as yet. So, I hope you can help on this...
    Kind Regards
    Robert Klaassen

WMA files are 'window media audio' files, which is a Microsoft format. If you want to add them to your iTunes library on your Mac then you will need to convert them into a compatible format first. If you still have your windows machine then iTunes for Windows can convert them from WMA to MP3 format : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24158701#24158701
Or try a search for, for example, 'convert wma to mp3' to find programs to convert them.

Had to remove itunes from my computer to reset the computer. Now I'm having problems syncing my iphone with the computer. Computer is saying it wants to download updates to the phone but that will delete things I downloaded straight from the phone. Help!

iTunes thinks you have a new computer because you restored the OS. Open iTunes and authorize it to the same account you have on the iPhone. Did you restore your iTunes content from a backup after resetting your computer? Have you been syncing regularly with the computer, and does the iTunes library on the computer contain your apps, music and videos? If so just sync and your content will be removed then restored.
If you have not hopefully you have now learned something. You can recover apps and purchased songs by connecting the phone, without syncing, and choose "Transfer purchases..." from the File menu.

I have been downloading Mountain Lion for MAC for over 4 hrs. and it seems to be stuck about 2/3 of the way through.  I have a I mac that is only 2 yrs old has 8 GB memory and I updated all software, checked utilitie for any disc repairs andbacked up everything before I started this process.  Can someone tell me what to do  Right now the version is OSX 10.6.8.

Let it go... these DL's take forever, depending on the spped of your connection and the traffic on the servers.
If by morning it is still sitting there restart and the DL should pick up from where it left off.

  • I am unable to Download Mountain Lion for my Mac Pro.

This really *****. Now I know why I can't download Mountain Lion!!!! I have an 8 core Mac Pro at 3ghz
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          Mac Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacPro2,1
      Processor Name:          Quad-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:          3 GHz
      Number of Processors:          2
      Total Number of Cores:          8
L2 Cache (per Processor):          8 MB
      Memory:          16 GB
      Bus Speed:          1.33 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:          MP21.007F.B06
      SMC Version (system):          1.15f3
      Serial Number (system):          157191HTUPZ
      Hardware UUID:          00000000-0000-1000-8000-0019E3F8CB92
And It is too slow to run Mountain Lion. I doubt it. This would not be the case if Apple Supported the Cores parallelism as they are suposed to do. I know this computer is faster than my MacBookPro; How about it Apple, Why not write software to support all my 8 cores and you won;t have to force me to stop using the new Apple System Software. Why can't we users be the ones to determine if our machines run too slow under Mountain Lion? I can't afford a new Mac Pro; you surely now how to hurt a User/Developer.
    Thanks for Nothing, Apple!

  • Downloading Mountain Lion Without A Mac Available.

The hard drive in my Mac has suddenly died beyond repair. I now have a brand new blank hard drive but obviously need a version of OSX on it. Is it possible to download Mountain lion without the use of a Mac? Thanks!
