HT1430 Need to reset Ipad but don't want to loose data

Nedd help with the above

Connect to your computer and back up your iPad before restoring.
I like to achieve a full backup in the following order:
1. Open iTunes
2. Transfer Purchases - File>Devices>Transfer Purchases - Let this process finish
3. Backup - File>Devices>Back Up - Let this process finish
Now you have a full backup! If your iPad needs to be completely restored due to a complex technical support issue, then you'll likely want to try to Restore from Backup first and see if the issue is resolved. That will in all likelihood restore the same issue back to the iPad, but it is the most hassle free way of restoring and in some cases it will resolve your issues. If you are still having your issue after restoring from the backup you just created, you will need to restore again and Set Up as a New iPad. This will require you to set everything up as if it were new out of the box. Email, addresses, iCloud settings, etc. You will lose some data. Any saved game data, iMessages, etc.
Hope this helps. Please reply if you have further questions. By the way, what is the specific issue that you are experiencing which necessitates the "reset"?
Best Regards,
Mike

  • Resetting my iPad but don't want to lose data

I need to return my work iPad to the company and therefore will be resetting it. How can I ensure I don't lose the data, how can I save it so that I can put this on a new iPad if I decide to get a personal one.
I also have an iPhone and don't want to lose anything from that when I reset my iPad, are they linked? Is there anyway to move this data across to my iPhone?
The data I'm worried about losing is the contacts, iMessages and bookmarks/favourites within Safari.

If, in iCloud settings on the iPad, you have Safari checked, your history and favourites will be synchronsied via iCloud and you'll be able to get them back on a new device synced to the same account. Same for contacts, calendar items and so on.
The page below outlines everyting backed up via iCloud.

So between iCloiud sync and backup, you should be OK

  • Need to reset ipad but don't have original owners apple id just password

I manage a pawn shop and we reset apple ipad to factory settings now it say's owner has used find my phone to link their id. I do not have the owners apple id but I do have password and have no way to get ahold of owner what can I do

In future you must verify that 'Find My iPhone' is switched off, that is the key to all the security. If it is on you will not be able to get around it unless (a) you have the seller demonstrate that it is off by showing you that it has been disabled or (b) have the seller go to his account on the iCloud website, then go to Find My Phone (on the site) and remove the item from his account. In your case I would guess that the first method would be preferable.
The one you have can be sold for parts value, but that's about it, sorry to bear the news.
PS: You are not the first Pawn Shop operator to post here with this problem. I don't know your business but if there is some kind of trade publication this may be a good item for it (and it is already spreading to other manufacturers devices), Galaxy G5's have a similar system, the EU will require it by law. The clock is ticking

Since Office 365 is a Microsoft product and not an Apple product, it doubtful you'll get an answer here. Suggest you post in a M$ Office 365 forum, like this one http://support.microsoft.com/ph/15834/en  Google for others.

  • I bought movies on my ipad2 how do I transfer them to my computer? When I am in iTunes I have tried the transfer purchases, when you click on movies under the iPad nothing is there. I need to free up space, but don't want to loose my movies.

When I sync my iPad my movies don't show up on my computer... This is stupid, I am not going to turn my computer on every time I want to download a movie for my kids and then move it to my iPad... If this is the case I will be better off buying a portable DVD player! I just want my movies to show up on my iPad so I can move them to the computer. We have a 64 gig one and this is really disappointing! If this can't be fixed I won't be spending any more money on apples digital products. My devices are being used by kids and I need a way to back up what they don't save in iCloud!

Try here >  iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    iCloud doesn't support movies...
    iCloud backs up your:
Purchased music, TV shows, apps, and books
Photos and video in the Camera Roll
    Device settings
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
From here >  Apple - iCloud - Store and back up your content in iCloud.

  • Need new Mac DESPERATELY, but don't want to "overbuy"

I'm in desperate need of a new Mac (as you can probably see from my specs) but I have NO clue what to buy. I'm not a gamer, so I don't need the best video money can buy, but I would like to try out things such as Second Life. I mostly use my Mac for email and IM and surfing the net, but that may be because if I do anything more than that I'm in beachball purgatory. Any suggestions? I like to have many programs open at once, would probably want to burn/watch DVDs and CDs and I don't have a spare monitor lying around, so I don't know about a mini. Let me know if you need to know anything else about my computer habits in order to offer advice.
    Thanks!

I'm going to buy a new iMac 24" too, but I don't know yet whether to buy the high-end or the one with 2.4 processor.
I want to buy a new one for the motherboard of my iMac G5 doesn't work any more and, I don't feel like spending money to replace it.
I use my Mac especially for photos and videos, as well as listening to music, surfing the net and using iWork '08.
Is the 2.4 enough for needs or I'd better go for a 2.8?
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks in advance

  • Need to recover OS but don't wont to lose data on HDD

    Dear All!
For the long time now, I was trying to disable a trojan or a worm, on my WXP (Home!) i.e. get rid of the cftmon_.exe, when I decided to follow the instructions from Symantec and manually deleted parts of the register, I guess that it was USERINIT part ( turning off the System Restore before and turning it on after the deletion).
It may be as well that I did not do something right, following the fact that I would be logging off the moment that logging on process has started. This is relatively known issue here, with different options.
    - I need to keep data at both HDD's.
    - I have no other partitions.
    - I do not know what free space I have on one of them, which I could eventually use for the Expert recovery mode.
    a. Following the fact that I want to take the option with Toshiba Recovery DVD, i.e. Expert mode ( http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2513&tstart=125 ) as a last one,
    b. I have trouble with installing Recovery Console (with original Windows XP CD (Professional!), "R" to "repair), but I would get the message "setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer"...
I understand that I would need to install the RAID driver ( http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=20093&messageID=73758 ) but I am afraid that this may delete the data on the disk.
    My questions are following:
    1. Will installing the RAID driver (downloaded from the Toshiba off web site http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/updates/raid-drv/raid-drv-qog20-xp-1380.zip and installed over FDD I guess) in order to hopefully install Recovery Console, and do the rest of the job, make the data from my 2 HDD's disapear (delete)?
    2. If I eventually use Toshiba Recovery DVD, i.e. Expert mode what size of partition should I save for the mirror on the half-empty 1.HDD?, should I make the partition at 2 HDD, after backing it up and counting that the data will be lost? Should I select any special setings during the process, apart from those mentioned at the link above? What should I do after-wards? Can I build the damaged registry when logged on and how? will I be in position to use personal and archive data from the Microsoft Outlook?
    3. Is there an alternative with UBCD4Win and UBCD? Which one is better? What is the procedure after booting CD's after the restart? How do I get to copy/repear userinit files?
I do apologize for load of information, but I am quite stuck. All the data needed for my normal life are buried there !!!
Many thanks to JohnnyS, tw, Quad, Eldorado and Others!
    Cheers!

    Hi friend,
I like to answer on postings like yours, its a good exercise for my work and its really cool to have some topics where all people here will contribute.
JohnnyS is a friend of mine which is working with me at our office and we talked a little bit about your problem.
So his opinion was to use the UBCD4Win and work with that option.
    The advice of him was:
Grab a USB-HDD case and put one drive in it and boot with UBCD4Win. Then copy all important data to a folder on the external HDD and remove the uneeded data on it. Just the important data!
Make a backup of your data on the external drive from both HDDs. I hope you will have enough free space.
Format the drive in your machine and recover it. Install the system as usually on your first HDD.
Then put the data to where you want.
So I am not sure if I understanded your question right, a little bit more explanation would be useful. I think that will be a long thread. ;)

  • HT4972 I want to update my iPad OS, but don't want to loose the movies and apps currently on it.  What can I do?

I bought the original iPad as soon as it was released.  I ended up with lots of movies and apps for my kids.  Now I want to update to the latest iOS.  When I go to update it says that iTunes can do the update but will not save my apps and movies.  I do not want to lose the apps or the movies.  Is there a way to update (hopefully relatively easily) without losing the movies and apps?

If you had been syncing with iTunes all along, you should probably have a little better insight as to how this works.
Yes your device will be erased as part of the updating process. Your backup should be restored at the end of the update. But .... Be proactive anyway. As long as you do your part, everything should work out fine.
What you should do anytime that you update the device is to transfer purchases from the iPad into iTunes - File>Transfer Purchases - and you should backup the iPad as well. When you update the update the device, if something goes wrong, you can restore from the backup.
However, iTunes should ask if you want to backup before you update, but just in case create the backup yourself before you update. The backup contains your app data and settings - along with other items - so make sure you backup first.
If you have any other important files, you may want to transfer them to your computer as well, prior to the update.
    Transfer purchases.

  • I want to close one email account but don't want to loose my address book. I already have the new account installed and the address book shows up in it.

If I delete my Roadrunner account in Thunderbird will it affect the address book that shows up in my new ATT email account?

The address book is the Thunderbird address book, not roadrunner or comcast etc, the same address book services all account in Thunderbird.
    SO go ahead.
But remember that if you have mail in a RoadRunner account folder in the folder pane that the folder will go with the account. All mail in the accounts folders inbox send etc needs to be moved to local folders before you delete the account.

  • Presently have Snow  Leopard and want to upgrade to Maverick but don't want to lose data.  How to download safely? don't am worried about losing info.  How to download it without risk to current data.

Am currently using Snow Leopard and do not have access to I Cloud or latest version of I Photo.  Understand I can download Maverick free but am worried about losing data.  How to download Maverick and safeguard present files?

Mac OS X upgrades are designed so that none of your existing Applications or User data are intentionally deleted during a System Upgrade.
That works as long as there are no problems whatsoever.
Your best protection from data loss is good Backups. Before you upgrade, buy an External Drive at least 2 to 3 times the size of your User Data, and Turn on Time Machine. USB-2 enclosure drives are cheap, and fast enough for backups. If you will use this drive for everyday data, a faster interface would be much better.
Time Machine works quietly in the background, and does not "take over" your Mac to do the Backups. After the first large backup, it will quietly back up hourly, copying only the things that have changed since the last Backup. Time Machine is not the only Backup solution, or even the best solution out there. But it tends to be the Backup that actually happens, because you don't have to download any software, do extensive setup, or think about whether you should do it now or later.

  • I have a new iPhone 4S that is 2 days old. I got it because my old one (6 months Old) starting loosing it's charge 5 days ago. the new one is now acting like the old one. I want to dump everything and start over from scratch but don't want to loose contac

I have backed up all my photos which was important to me. I dont mind loosing everything except my contacts.
I did a restore yesterday but that didn't help.

Contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book app on your computer where your contacts should be available with or without an iPhone or any cell phone which can be lost or stolen or damaged beyond repair.
In addition, there are a number of free email accounts that support syncing contacts over the air not involving your computer or involving it in addition to such as with an Apple iCloud account, Yahoo, Gmail, and Hotmail.

  • Bought a new computer, and don't want to loose data...

Ok, I'm sure a lot of people claim this, but I'm really just trying to help a friend.
They bought a new Windows7 PC and we transferred over all their info from their old WinXP box. Apparently not all of the songs transferred, and none of the playlists transfer. They do have all their stuff on an iPod touch, but when we hook that up it wants to transfer from PC to iPod, is there a way to back up the ipod and get the apps/calendar/songs/etc off the iPod?
They do have a backup of the iTunes folder from the old PC and the folder under c:\document and settings\user\application data\iTunes\.

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. The exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
You can type "move itunes library" or similar into the google search bar for instructions on moving the entire itunes library ( playlists and all) from the old computer to the new one.
You should also move contacts/calendars from the old computer to the new one.

A client gave me he's mini Ipad wifi as a gift.
It has all his information:photos, music, contacts, etc. I also took some photos that are in camera roll. I would like to erase everithing and make it totaly mine but don't want to loose my photos and his music which is very good. How should I do???

Resetting the settings will reset things like the wallpaper to the default. It wont remove the apps or music.
As the previous poster said, the apps and music will be tied to the previous owners Apple ID, you'll need the password to update the apps and remain authorized to play the music.
I would suggest taking your stuff off (the camera pictures) then erasing all content and settings so the iPad is like new. For privacy reasons alone I would erase the device. I realise you want to keep the music, but since you haven't paid for it (it was purchased under someone elses ID) then it isn't yours to keep, you'll need to write down the tracks and purchase them under your ID.
