HT1751 I need to set up iTunes to run on my local network, independent of the internet because of a bad internet connection.

I have Hughes Net, for internet. Due to this, iTunes in the cloud, does not operate for us. I need to put my music on a local drive, and create a network drive, to use iTunes, while at home. (I'm still not sure about how I'll handle the music on our iPhones). I have a current AirPort Extreme, (802.11ac), and I have a 64gb flash drive, as well as a 1.5TB external SATA drive, that can be used. I'd like to NOT have to keep the MacBook Pro powered on all the time, but would still like to play music, through/on my iPads and iPhones, while at home.
How can I set this up, to run, independent of the cruddy internet service, which won't allow me to stream a single song, without stopping to buffer, for multiple long periods, during one song?

itunes can share music over the network without an internet connection, but you will need a computer running itunes powered on to be able to share it (setup in itunes by going to file (windows) or itunes (mac) > preferences > sharing)
if you just want to setup a network attached storage drive for the network that holds all the music that would be done independently of itunes and you would need a compatible NAS drive (I don't believe the airport is technically a nas drive but you could ask that section of support communities as well https://discussions.apple.com/community/wireless/airport)

  • HT4623 i need help setting up itunes on my iphone

hi i just bought my iphone and i need to set up itunes. on my phone it says connect to itunes and i already connected the usb cable but it wont move forward. what should i do

once the phone is connected, turn on itunes if the program did not automatically turn on.
from there you will see your device; in this case your iphone.
You will see tabs along the top for music, movies and so on... go thru each tab and make sure you have the settings or your choice.
on the main tab near the bottom right you will see the sync button; click it and wait.

    Hello erbim,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
The Apple ID you sign in with will allow you access to the purchases made on that ID.

  • Need Help Setting up iTunes store...new account

I am trying to sign into my account in the latest version of iTunes which is new on my Hard drive (had to erase the HD because of some issues with it) Anyway, iTunes wants me to add credit card information for purchases. I have been buying pre paid cards and would rather continue doing this. So how can I get around putting my CC info in? It won't let me get pass that step in the setting up the account process. When I click sign in and put my info in it says that my information has never accessed the music store and wants me to register. The first screen that comes up is the Credit Card screen.
    Thanks!

You can create gift card accounts that do not involve entering any other payment information. Just get them a gift card and redeem them before opening up an account for them.

    Ditto.
You need to look for your itunes library under Computers and select it, then music.
Music column is for web based content not local content, just to confuse everyone.

my kids set up itune account on my computer years ago and no one remembers the password.  They started new accounts on their macs.   I want to start my own itunes account, but I would like to get some of the music off this account.  Any suggestions?

The easiest way would probably be to recover the data of the old account and change it to match your current info, after that you can continue to use the account without any problems. To recover your account go to: Apple - My Apple ID
Alternatively if you want to start a new account do it and then contact iTunes support to see if the y can transfer your purchases (I know of cases on which they have done it)

  • How do I set up iTunes so that it accesses my music & movies from the iTunes folders on the external hard rive in the usb port?

Recently deleted the iTunes folder on laptop to free up memory after I moved everything to external hardrive. Everything downloads from iTunes properly to the external hardrive; but I can not connect my ipad now and access my movies. Wha do I need to do so I can transfer movies back and forth to my ipad. When I connect my ipad it says it is registered t another library.

    This article will help you.
    1. Yes, you can trash the original folder. If you have a large media library, then yes you should free up a good chunk of space. However, you must also empty the trash. You can't just leave it in the trash or it will take up space.
    2. Once you select the new media folder in iTunes as the article tells you, I believe all new downloaded media will automatically go to that new folder.

  • Setting up a VoIP extension on a local network.

With the help of the experts on this board I have successfully set up a VoIP phone extension on our private network. The questions & answers can be viewed at. http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=VoIP_Adapters&thread.id=3197 . For the benefit of anyone attempting a similar project, here is the completed setup.
This installation is in a small motel in Te Anau, on New Zealand’s South island. The manager lives off site, and needs to be able to receive calls at night, and also transfer incoming calls to guest’s extensions through the hotels PBX. This necessitates a direct link to the PBX, rather than simply diverting the phone. One solution would have been to lease a circuit from the local Telco, but in NZ, this is very expensive, so another solution was sought. Fortunately there was an established wireless data link between the hotel and the managers residence, so VoIP seemed the obvious choice.
The equipment used is a Linksys SPA3102 connected to an extension on the PBX, and a Linksys PAP2 at the remote end. The setup would work equally well if connected to a phone line, rather than the PBX.
I’ll start the setup with the SPA3102.
Connect the POTS line to the LINE port, and your switch/router to the INTERNET port. In my setup the Ethernet port is not used. Plug a standard phone into the Phone port. This is useful for testing and setting up. It’s not needed afterwards, unless you want a local phone.
Open your web browser, and type the adaptor IP into the address bar. Go to Admin, and Advanced Settings.
    ROUTER SETUP
    WAN Setup Tab:
    Connection type: Static IP.
Static IP Settings: The Network address on your local network (192.168.x.x)
    Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    LAN Setup Tab:
LAN IP address: This is automatically selected to be on a different sub net from the WAN. Unless it conflicts with another address on your system you shouldn’t change it.
    Enable DHCP: No
    (Save these settings.)
    VOICE SETUP
    System Tab: No Changes
    SIP Tab: No Changes
    Provisioning Tab: No Changes
Regional Tab: Mostly this sets the dial tones etc to match your local service. Unless you need them to be the same this shouldn’t need any changes
The Hook Flash Timer Min & Max: should be set to the local values. The Defaults (.1 and .9) are OK for North America. Australia and New Zealand use .07 & .13. If you have trouble sending a hook flash, check these values against the local settings.
DTMF playback level should be greater than zero. (I used 3)
    (Save these settings)
    Line 1 Tab:
I don’t use Line 1 except for testing. During setup the line should be enabled. After the system is running OK, it can be disabled
    Line enabled yes

    User 1 ID: 11. User1 DP: 1
    User 2 ID: 21 User 2 DP: 1
    User 3 ID 22 User 3 DP: 1
(These are the line numbers of additional PAP2’s on our system)
PSTN to VOIP Gateway enable: yes
    PSTN Caller ID none
    PSTN Caller Default DP: 2
    Detect PSTN long silence yes
    Detect VoIP long silence yes
    Detect Disconnect tone yes
    VoIP answer delay 0
    PSTN Answer delay 0
PSTN to VoIP gain (Set these to adjust
VoIP to PSTN gain the speech volume)
Line in Use voltage: This should be set midway between the On Hook and Off Hook voltages, which you get from the Info screen. Most public phones are 47v on hook, and 7v off hook, so the setting should be 27v. My PBX is 27v on hook, and 7v off hook, so my setting is 17v. To read this, go to the Info screen and check the Line Voltage, then go Off hook (make a call), click the reload button on your browser, and check the line voltage again.
    (save these settings)
This completes the setting up of the SPA3102.
Now for the setup of the PAP2.
Open your web browser, and type the PAP2 IP into the address bar. Go to Admin, and Advanced Settings.
    System tab:
    DHCP no
Static IP 192.168.x.x (same sub-net as your network. Different adaptor number)
    Net Mask 255.255.255.0
    (save these settings)
    SIP Tab: no changes.
    Provisioning Tab: no Changes
    Regional Tab.
Hook Flash Min & Max: change to your local settings if required.
    (save these settings)
    Line 1 & Line 2 Tabs.
Whether you use Line 2 depends on whether you want to have 2 phones on the PAP2. All calls from the PSTN line of the SPA3102 will go to Line 1 of the PAP2 as per Dial Plan 2 on the SPA
    Line enable yes
    SIP port 5060 (line 1) & 5061 (line 2)
    Proxy Proxies are not used.
    Register no
    Make call w/o reg yes
    Answer call w/o reg yes
    Display name: anything you like
    User ID 11 (line 1) & 12 (line 2)
(These are used to identify each line on the system)
    Call waiting: no
    3 way conf: no
    3 way call: no
    DTMF Tx method: AVT
Dial Plan: This is the dial plan I use on line 1.
    (<:192.168.4.10:5061>S3|21S0<:@192.168.4.9:5060>|22S0<:@192.168.4.9:5061>)
You will have to modify it for use on other lines, or other adaptors, and the IP addresses must match your system IP addresses. Here is an explanation.
192.168.4.10:50613 All my adaptors are on subnet 4. 10 is the number of the SPA3102, and 5061 is the SIP port mapped to the PSTN line. If the handset is lifted, and no numbers are dialed the call will be transferred to the PSTN line after 3 seconds, and you will hear the outside dial tone. If within 3 seconds you dial either 21, or 22, the phone on either line 1, SIP port 5060, or Line 2, SIP port 5061, on adaptor 9 will ring. (If you only have one PAP2 then you will only need the first section of this dial plan.)
    Enable IP Dialing: yes
    (save these settings).
User 1 and User 2 tabs: no changes
That just about does it. All incoming calls from outside are received by the PBX, and after hours are sent to the extension connected to the SPA3102, which rings the phone on the remote PAP2 in the manager’s house. If the call is for a guest we can press the recall button (hook flash), dial the guest’s extension number, and transfer the call when they answer. As an added bonus we have a second PAP2 elsewhere on the network, and we can call between the 3 adaptors. All 3 adaptors have access to an outside line, though the PBX. I’m fairly sure it would also work through a VPN, which would mean we could take a VoIP phone anywhere in the world, and still be virtually ‘On site". I don’t know if that is a good thing or not.

    Hi HW,
The PBX is a Panasonic TA308. There is no special interface to the PBX,  the  line port on the SPA3102 is simply plugged into an extension, like another phone. Anyone calling that extension will have the call routed through the SPA & PAP2 to the remote phone.
The whole setup is totally seamless, & transparent to the user. As we are on a local network there is virtually no latency. There is a slight tendancy to echo,  but the echo suppression mostly takes care of that.
THis has been a good exercise, and once I got my head around what I was trying to do, with your help,  it was pretty easy.  I think the hook flash timing would be the thing which gives most users a problem, as it seems to vary widely around the world. I was surprised at the difference between the US and NZ (.1 & .9 to .07 & .13).  There didn't seem to be any other critical differences.
Now I am the local expert on VoIP   "In the Kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is King."

  • Itunes not seeing anything on local network

Dear all, I will start by outlining how the problem occured.
Last night I had my laptop connected to my router via ethernet (and unknown to me via wifi too as the laptop automatically turns on the wifi card sometimes when it gets power). I was using my ipod touch to control itunes when I noticed thw wifi card was on. I turned off the wifi card switch and now my itunes cannot see anything on the local network (including my ipod touch remote and other peoples itunes shares). This problem occurs when the laptop is connected to the router by wifi or ethernet cable, and I am sure that the ipod touch is connected to the same network as the laptop. Any ideas?
    Many Thanks

    Got the problem solved.
    -Restarted the Bonjour service

  • How can I keep Itunes from wanting to put my music cd in the compilations folder.  Even a 2 disc set sometimes itunes will place one cd in a folder of the name of the band and the other disc in the compilations folder under the name of the cd

Two issues.  The first one is that when I upload some music cd's into my itunes library, itunes wants to place the songs in a compilations folder.  Sometimes this occurs even with a 2 or 3 cd set.  One CD will be filed under the artists name and the disc 2 may be filed in the compilations folder and listed by the name of the cd and not the artist.
2nd issue is that sometimes cd's are similiar, but with different artists such as 20th century Hits of Neil Young.  The CD is filed in the compilations folder.  Than I upload the 20th century Hits of Tanya Tucker and the songs go into the same folder with Neil Young.  The don't even mix as one is county and the other is rock.
I have moved these CD's out of the compilations folder and moved them in with the other cd's by the same artist, but Itunes keeps moving them back into the compilations folder.
    Is there a fix

Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things.
For compilations that aren't, select all tracks, Get Info, and on the option tab set Part of a Compilation to No. If it already says No tick the box alongside, then click OK.
For deeper problems see Grouping tracks into albums.

  • Need Help setting up a Fully-Accessible External Harddrive on Network.

Alright Ladies and Gentlmen of the Apple Support Forums,
I'm fairly new to servers in general - but I thought I'd be able to figure this one out on my own...I guess I was wrong
I am the tech head of a video studio that needs to share a single 12 TB external 3.0 drive on the entire network. I want all to be able to read, write, and delete as easy as possible.
    Here's what I have:
    - 20mb/s UP and 20 mb/s DOWN coming from Northstate into my modem.
    - I have my modem connected to my new Airport Express.
    - I have connected my airport express to my Mac Mini server (new).
    - I also have it connected to a 24 port netgear switch.
    - My switch is connected to about 11 stations across the studio.
    - My LaCie 12TB drive is connected via USB 3.0 to the mac mini and is available to view in the "shared" finder window for all computers. In other words, everyone CAN see it.
    - I have set everyone up with their own username and password to connect to the server. I have set permissions through the server (file sharing) to allow all users to Read & Write to the external Harddrive.
    My problem:
It seems as though any file or folder created by one computer is not accessable by another computer - and vice versa. One user has NO permission to write or copy a file into a folder that another user has created on the external drive.
    My needs:
I really want this to work freely. I want all users to be able to write, read, and delete any file or folder on the External HDD through the network. I don't want to have to set every folder created on the external to sharing or have to manage permissions at all.
Ladies and Gentlemen! What am I doing wrong?!

Underlying the Mac OS is unix. By default when a file or folder is created, it is owned by that user. Other users don't have read/write permissions.
I suggest reading a bit about unix permissions work.
Unix assigns permissions for 3 categories for each file and folder. Self, group, and other (think of other like the permissions you would want a complete stranger to have).
If all your users are members of the same group, you can use unix permissions to allow anyone in the group to have r/w permissions. You'd first need to define a group, and then assign all the users to that group.
Lastly, you'd want to associate all the existing files you already have to that group.
