HT201240 I am trying to reset my password and the only user I can select is system administrator (root) which the above article tells me not to select?

My system will not recognize my password so I cannot download new software in order to move MobileMe to iCloud.

I have forgotten my name and password to get into my MacBook. I have imputed the OS X disc and found the reset password bit but it only gives me option to reset my iPhone or system administrator (root) but on mac support it says not to click that root option? So confused can't someone help? Can I click the root option or will it wipe files? Thanks

I've not seen that, but depening on OSX version, see if any of this helps...

I'm a bit concerned because the message from Mozilla tells me that the password reset was sent and I have only six hours to use it.

Your password was sent to your emergency email address. Perhaps you have an email you never use? I use the free email from my cable TV account as my emergency email.
Your Apple account and cloud account are separate. You could even have completely different user and password. Most of us use the same user ID and password, but they are not the same thing, don't mix them up.
If you can't retrieve emergency email, you will have to call apple support.

Sorry to hear about this problem. What site are you trying to log in on? Is it a Mozilla site? Usually you don't need to register or sign in to a Mozilla site to use Firefox. Usually you can just go straight to where you want to go.
