HT201412 Will restoring my iPhone lose any info if I backup first?

I am trying to figure out exactly what is going on with my phone, without having to go to the Apple store.  I went to charge it earlier today (it was at about 7% battery) and when I plugged it in, it made the "charging" noise.  It repeatedly makes that noise when plugged in.  When I connect it to my computer, iTunes recognizes my phone just fine.  The screen is completely black and I cannot "wake up" the phone by holding the power and home keys simultaneously as suggested.  I read an article on the support site that suggested I restore my phone, so that I what I am trying.  Hoping it works!  (YES, I did backup my info before restoring!!)  Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone else experienced this before???

I believe you have to have the phone at the home screen to back it up on pc

    Hi vanover7,
It sounds as if when you connect your iPad to your computer it does not show up in iTunes, is that correct?

  • Will restoring my iPhone also wipe the computer?

Hi, so this is kind of complicated. Basically, my iPhone got disabled, and I don't have access to the computer that my phone is synced with. I'm willing to just restore the whole thing, but I would have to restore it on my friend's computer, and he's hesitant because his iPhone is synced to that one and he thinks that restoring my iPhone on it will wipe everything on the iTunes on his computer. So, will restoring my iPhone on his computer wipe the iTunes on his computer?

    Nope.

  • My wife and I each have iPads ipods and iPhones on one Apple account . Should we create a new account? What happens to our iTunes ,apps and iCloud? Can we share them? Will we lose any info?

MY wife and I share and Apple ID . We both have iPads, iPods, and iphones
all our purchases in iTunes , apps and iCloud are on this . If we create a new ID for one of us do we lose any of the data and purchased material or do we still share?

I would suggest that one of you retain the existing AppleID and use it for the iTunes Store, iCloud, and Messages on their iOS device and/or Mac accounts.
Then, the other one of you can create a new AppleID.
You then have two choices for how to share your existing store purchases:
    1) You can try the new "Family Sharing" feature: http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/
    2) Or you can simply continue to use the original AppleID as your "iTunes Store" login on all of your devices (yours and your wife's), yet use a different AppleID to login to iCloud and Messages.
Family Sharing is supposed to be the solution to the problem and does indeed have some interesting shared features.  However, just using the same iTunes Store login has worked reliable for years.
The important this to realize is that in iOS and Mac OS, the logins for the Apple Store, Messages, and iCloud are all completely separate and can be independently configured.  So, you can each use your own AppleID for login to each of those services.  Just make sure to both login to the iTunes Store service using the same original AppleID.

  • Will restoring my iphone 4 relock it?

Hey, i recently unlcock my iphone 4 on the high street. I had to provide my imei number and had to wait 7 days. I then needed to plug my phone into itunes and i got a message on itunes saying 'congratulations your iphone is now unlocked' . So i am assuming this unlock is not a jailbreak and was verified by itunes. However, i was wondering if I restored my iphone, will it relock t its original network?
    THANKS

If your phoone was legitimately unlocked, it will remain unlocked.

No, because you can restore or backup to iCloud for multi device as soon as you have free space in your account

  • HT201210 I am getting an error message 2003 as the reason why itunes cannot restore my iphone. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    HI
I tried installing ios7 via itunes. It took a back up of the iphone no problem, then installed ios7. When I went to restore the iphone the last back up was not the one done today. When i tried to restore it I got and error message 2003 which is not listed on the useful information list of error messages.
I would realy appreciate it if anyone could throw some light on what has happened and suggest anything that might help
    thanks

Well, it is indirectly addressed in that list.  These suggestions should assist:
    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you're using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.

  • Restored my iphone but it wont load the backup.

Hi. I restored my iphone making sure I backed it up before I did. There were no problems with the back up and it said it was successful. However after the restore I click on 'restore from the back up of 'name of backup'' and it starts to sync but then says it could not load the back up as the back up failed.
Is tehre any other way to load this back up?

I'm sorry, but I'm having a little trouble understanding you. You say it won't restart? Or are you saying something else. I am not aware of any program that Apple has that helps to restart a phone. So if you try to restore based on the support document that I provided you, what happens?

  • Will restoring my iphone 4 make its performance any better?

It could, doesn't hurt to try http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • 'an error occoured while restoring your iphone (-50) = any help?

(-50) Just had this error message when syncing iphone and now lost everything - please help?

I feel your pain. Yesterday I installed the latest iTunes to update my iPhone 4, didn't sync before updating, my fault there as a novice Apple user. But even before you confirm the update it tells you it will back up all your photos, contacts, etc and put it back on after the new iOS is in. So the iOS 5 update installed fine, but I got the same (-50) error. After trying all the prescribed troubleshoots from Apple's site, I got an Apple Advisor on the phone after a 30 min wait. Ultimately the Advisor directed me to Edit>>Preferences>>Devices (on Windows) and said there should be at least one backup file listed. However, there was no such file. So essentially, Apple's own update process screwed up by not creating a backup to restore my photos, contacts, everything. Once it was apparent there was nothing that could be done, the Apple Advisor was quick and eager to encourage me to use iCloud in the future, which comes with a nice annual fee for anything over 5 GB of storage, which is nothing in this day and age. At least with iOS 5 they will be doing over-the-air updates now instead of this absurd risk-your-digital-life method of wiping your phone for a simple software update.

  • Will restoring my ipod lose all data on itunes?

i forgot my passcode and i was going to restore it but i dont know if it will delet all my apps and music on itunes

It will erase and restore the iPad to factory settings, all content should reside in iTunes. It won't remove anything from your computer.

  • My iTunes will restore my iPhone 4s but it won't turn on?

I dropped my iphone in the toliet a few days ago but luckily i quickly retrived it. i dried it off but didnt turn it off and i just put it in rice for over a day and i took it out today. my iphone wont turn on but when i connect it to itunes it did restore the phone but it still wont turn on? does anyone have an idea as to how to fix the phone?

It is clear liquid damage, nobody here can help you out with that. Putting the iPhone in raw rice to dry out can help but a positive result is never guaranteed. All anybody could suggest is to take it to an Apple Store to get a replacement for a fee.

  • HT201269 Restoring my Iphone copy with a password protected backup.

I backed my Iphone 5 to the computer when trying to restore it to my new Iphone 5S it is prompting me for a password. I did not put a password on my backup copy - how do I undo that?

It sounds very much like you chose to set an encryption password in iTunes for your backup.
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and choose set up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.
