HT204433 Can an HTML widget access SQLite databases?

I want to store some data in SQLite databases rather than localStorage for a mini-quiz at the end of the textbook I am creating. Is this possible?

localStorage or remote off your servers...that's it.

  • Can a HTML Widget access the content of a iBook page?

I am writing a HTML Widget that will present more information about the content where it is located by accessing a database. To do so, it needs to access the content of the page where it located, or, at least, the page number. Is there a way to do this?
Sure I can 'hard code' the info in the widget's javascript and have one different widget per page/content, but that will be difficult to maintain and deploy.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi KT!
    Thanks for your help.
In the same line of thinking I would like to ask if it is posible to access, via javascript, the propeties of the widget so that, in thesis, use the description or title property to pass info to the script about content or page number.

  • Can custom HTML widgets be copy protected in iBooks Author 2.0?

    Hi to All!
Never used iBooks Author up to this point, but looking in to it.
As per the subject heading: If a custom designed HTML widget is used in iBooks Author 2.0 can it easily be copied & pasted by viewers for their own puposes? If this is so can this action be prevented - i.e. can a custom HTML widget be copy protected in some fashion?
    Thank You.

  • Can we connect and access SAP database using db adapter?

    Hi,
    I need couple of details:
    1) Can we connect to SAP database using db adapter and run select query to extract data from the SAP database tables?
    2) Where can I download SAP adapter? How to install it? and how to plug that in to the JDev?
    Cheers

    1) Can we connect to SAP database using db adapter and run select query to extract data from the SAP database tables? It is possible as long as back-end DB version of SAP are supported by DB adapter. Oracle recommends SAP connectivity through Oracle Application Adapter for SAP rather than direct connection to SAP Database tables.

  • Can someone help me restore a corrupt bookmarks list (i have .html, .json or .sqlite)

My computer died pretty hard on sat. I am attempting to recover my old bookmarks ( i never knew about the firefox feature to store them on an account to access from anywhere -_-).
I am able to restore my places.sqlite, bookmarks.hrml and bookmarks-date.json.
However when i try to restore any of these either nothing happens or it says that they are corrupt/cant load. I was hoping someone on here could tell me how to maybe manually pull the info from here, or figure out how to fix the corrupt files.

You seem to have figured out most of it,and so maybe the original files are corrupt beyond redemption. I am not sure I can help but will add comments and suggestions nevertheless:
First of all if you have not already done so
    # make a copy of your [[profile|profile]] folder and all the files it contains. <br/>If you have restore copies of your system you may also have other copies of your profile archived or on a disk image or something, also make copies of those and put them somewhere accessible
#* see [[backing up your information]]
    # Manually save any existing bookmarks, and put them somewhere safe outside firefox paths, maybe on the Windows desktop
#* see [[backing up and restoring bookmarks]]
#* no doubt you have now discovered [[what is firefox sync?]]
When you try to restore bookmarks Firefox overwrites what you have, so if you have repeatedly attempted restoring bookmarks from corrupt files you may no longer have you have anything useful in the current profile. You may have to rely on whatever earlier files or profiles you have.
If you have HTML files they are probably the most user friendly being fairly similar to ordinary text files and many word processors etc may read and edit them so it should be fairly easy to workout what they contain, and if they are repairable or usable. When firefox imports HTML it appends them in the bookmarks library.
The places.sqlite is a more complex database. There are editors available for .sqlite databases, and that includes some that are Firefox extensions.
I am not familiar with editing .json files, they are used as Firefox's default backup files for bookmarks iirc they are basically text based, so presumably it is possible to examine and edit them also. (They will open in text editors, presumably there are editors available, or at least some suitable macros I usually just import them into a new firefox profile to work with them, although that can be very slow if you make a lot of changes to large nested folders of bookmarks)

  • Accessing many databases with HTML DB from a single Apache Server

    Hello;
I am planning the install of 10g and HTML DB on a HPUX server with many databases running out of many Oracle Homes 9.2.0, 9.0.1 and 8.1.7. I will be upgrading a number of the existing databases to 10g and want to access them with HTML DB.
My question is how can I install HTML DB on many databases and use a single Apache Server to access them?

Where would I find the DADs? a default installation of htmldb puts the modplsql DAD, "pls/htmldb", in a marvel.conf file located in $OHS_HOME/Apache/modplsql/conf/marvel.conf
What would the URLs look like? not sure what you're asking. if you're asking about how the change in DAD's would affect the URLs you're calling, though, you should consider looking over the OHS (oracle http server) doc some more before making these types of customizations.
And how would I install the HTML DB in the different databases?
Would I use the installer or scripts?the only supported way to install htmldb is via the 10g Companion CD. just use that installer to point to your different db's.
    regards,
    raj

I keep getting this error in Dreamweaver when I am trying to upload my website?  Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?  here is the error message: /html - error occurred - Unable to create remote folder /html.  Access denied.  The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem.   Make sure you have proper authorization on the server and the server is properly configured.  File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed.  Files with errors: 1 /html

Nobody can tell you anything without knowing exact site and server specs, but I would suspect that naming the folder "html" wasn't the brightest of ideas, since that's usually a default (invisible) folder name existing somewhere on the server and the user not having privileges to overwrite it.

  • WHY can't I access my database from an applet???????????

The security code won't let my applet access its own database (from its own server)..
    I'm using getDocumentBase()
to try and tell it that it is my own damn file..
    I keep getting :
    java.securityAccessControlException: access denied <java.util.PropertyPermission jdbc.drivers write>
    ...etc.
This applet crap is really starting to piss me off. I can see why they came out with JSP.
All I need to do is access my database, update it, etc. It kind of defeats the purpose of being able to do jdbc from applets if you can't even access the database on your own damn server.
If you all don't have a clue, I'm freakin switching to PHP--I'm tired of this crap-I was thinking Java was a damn good language until I hit applets.

The simple answer to your question is: Because of security concerns.
The somewhat longer answer is that directly accessing a database from an applet is generally not a good idea. A lot of security-critical code like DB username/password must be hidden in the applet which potentially can be downloaded (and disassembled) by anyone that hits your webpage. Maybe you do an intranet solution with trusted users but that is not what applets were originally designed for.
The clean way is to make your applet talk to a servlet that talks to your database.
If that is not the way you want to do it, make sure that all client policy files (yes, on the browser machine) contain the permissions that your applet needs.

  • MS Access 2010 Database can not be compacted

MS Access 2010 be can not be compacted
We have have MS access database size is closed to 2G. And user can't to compact the database. Is there a way to result the problem?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Could you please tell us how do you compact Access database? You can follow these suggestions to compact it again.
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/access-help/compact-and-repair-a-database-HA010341740.aspx
Is the database split? Front End or Back End? If split is it the Front End or Back End that won't compact. If not split, most likely you have corrupted mdb file.
Or you can try to create a new database and import all of the database objects from the old database into the new database to check if it works.

    Hi,
I think you should be able to write Native SQL in the supply function or the methods of the Assistance Class.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can midlet directly access a database?

I'm creating a midlet that connects to a database. Do i need to go through a server and then access the database or can i directly access the database through the midlet?
Does anyone have a sample code that have a midlet interacts directly with a database? Or is it impposible to do so without going through a web server.
    Blaise,

Your message arrived at the rigth address :)
I am experienced in J2ME programming and made several projects with it including my graduation thesis . (you can check http://2m.turkmenweb.com for my J2ME projects).
You can directly acces from MIDlet DB, but it is not so reccomended, since mobile devices have certain limitations. When we had to use DB in our J2ME projects(with MIDP1.0 and MIDP2.0) we achieved it by collaboration of JSP with our MIDlet.. That is MIDlet was only sending a URL to Tomcat Server (JSP server) i.e. http://someurl.com/show?task=topusers, and this URL was parsed by a Servlet which was making all needed conenctions to DB.
I also know that there are K editions (very small) of DBMS built especially for mobile devices. You can use them also .. I guess Oracle has such a thing..
    Good luck!

  • Can CF and ASP Access the Same Database?

Hello. I'm about to go into beta with a ColdFusion 8 site I
just wrote, and I've just realized there could be a problem I
haven't anticipated. There's another site, written in ASP, which
will accessing the same data at the same time. The data are in
FoxPro for DOS, which (if I have the terminology right) is a 'file
server' database. Both my site and the ASP site will be accessing
it through ODBC. I will be accessing it on a read only basis, and I
believe the ASP site accesses it read only as well. However, other
employees in the company are constantly accessing it read/write.
The ASP site has been already up and running for some time,
and the office manager (it's a small company) finds that he is able
to avoid conflicts by first stopping the ASP server each morning,
then starting FoxPro, then re-starting the ASP server. (I do not
mean the IIS server, but a little EXE written by the ASP
programmer, which puts up its own little window with 'start' and
    'stop' buttons on it.)
However, I find that on my own PC, using the free Developer
version of ColdFusion and accessing my site as localhost, if a DBF
(database file) is opened in FoxPro (even if no one is currently
writing to it), then my CF web site cannot access it, and vice
versa. That is, if I start FoxPro first and open the DBF of
interest, my web site can't access that DBF. And conversely, if I
access it first via my web site, then FoxPro can't access it. In
other words, the solution which works for the office manager and
his ASP site does not work for me with CF on my local PC.
Will matters be different in their system, where I will be
installing my site tomorrow, along with the Standard version of CF
8? If it matters, the FoxPro data and the Web server will be
different boxes linked by a network. The operating system is
Windows 2003 if I recall correctly.
Should I be saying 'Oops!' right about now?
I can probably come up with a workaround by having FoxPro
write a record to an alternate DBF every time the DBF of interest
to my site is updated, but will I have to do this?
    Thanks for your help.

Not much that can be done to make the database robust and
    handle
simultaneous transactions. But you could wrap all your CFML
    that
accesses this resource in named <cflock ...> tags so
    that they are
single threaded, thus restricting CF to one access at at
    time. Then
wrap all of this up in a <cftry><cfcatch...>
    blocks to gracefully handle
when the database is locked up by some other user/process.
You will still have many times when the CF application will
    not be able
to access the resource do to locking issues, but it will
    handle this
    gracefully and not just FAIL.
Of course this will have serious performance, throughput and
    scalability
consequences. But I suspect if you are using something like
    FoxPro you
are not building an application expected to handle heavy
    load.

  • How to make more than one person can access the database at one time

how to make  more than one person can access the database at one time

Please post further f'up's in the Access forum.
In short: for different reasons it is best practice that each user gets its own local copy of the database. This means that you need to split it into a front-end which only consists of the forms, queries, reports etc. Everything which doesn't need to be
shared. And a back-end, which only stores the data.
Take also a look at Allen Browne's article:
Split your Access database into data and application.
When you've splitted your database, you may often consider to use SQL Server as back-end. Here you may read Armen Stein's
The Best of Both Worlds: Access-SQL Server Optimization.
