first gen iPads max out at iOS 5.1.1
If your 4th gen says you need an updated iTunes then it's talking about the iTunes on your comptuer. For iOS7 you need at least iTunes 11

What exactly happens when you try to buy the app ? If you are trying to gift it then you will need a credit card on your account, gifting can't be done via your balance.

If you are buying for yourself and it's charging your card then it shouldn't, your balance should be used up first before any remainder is charged to your card. The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

I just found my old ipod touch (i think 1st generation) and would like to let my toddler use it instead of my phone. I am trying to download apps but it say I need to update to 4.3 but it won't let me update. I have the most recent itunes. any idea why? I saw a thread saying to purchase the newest software (that was posted a few years ago) I paid 4.95 for the software and it's still saying it can't be updated. Am I just SOL??
The 1G iPod can only go as high as 3.1.3. The 1G does not have an internal speaker or volume buttons on the upper left edge.

Download the current GarageBand version to a computer's iTunes library, go to the device, sign into the iTunes App Store with the Apple ID used to do that, and try downloading it from the list of previous purchases. If that doesn't work and you don't already have a copy of a compatible version, you can't.

Well, we can't as we don't know what you consider as "more than enough". The built is quite heavy (like it can be 800mb) then it needs to be extracted to be installed before everything unneeded gets deleted...

I want to Sync music from my PowerBook 4 to my Ipod generation 7 but it says I need to update Itunes to 10.7 but when it finishes updating and i go back to itunes nothing has changed and Itunes is not updated.
In order to install iTunes 10.7 or later you need OSX 10.6.8 or later. A PowerBook can install up to OSX 10.5.8
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but any new iPod won't sync with iTunes on Mac not using an Intel processor. -

I have the same problem.. EXACTLY. . When phoning Apple Support they had trouble understanding my problem and couldnt find any type of solution. No one seems to take responsibility for GameCenter issues. The assistant escalated the problem but no one could find an answer. .
The only idea was to set up a new apple id, hence a new GameCenter account. . But that would loose all the itunes data. Anyone got ideas ? -

Download Mac OS X 10.9 from the Mac App Store. If it's incompatible with your computer, Mac OS X 10.8 will be as well.
