HT4150 When trying to upgrade from 10.6.3 on a Macbook Pro, the update runs into an error before completion. No info is given about why, is this a known issue?

I'm trying to update a Macbook Pro with 10.6.3. The latest using Software Update does not complete downloading. After 475 Mb an error message says it can't connect to the update server. I tried incrementally updating to 10.6.4. It downloads, starts to install, and just before finshing the install gives a "software error" message and quits. Is this a known issue, and how can I get around it?

Try running the combo updater.

I get a disk error when trying to upgrade to mountain lion on my mac book pro that also runs bootcamp

I recently tried to upgrade my macbook pro OSX to mountain lion via the app store. When it tried to install it gives me a disk error. I have run disk utilities and repaired, verified etc. but it makes no difference. I am running bootcamp as well and have tried to modifiy the partition sizes in disk utilities, but it says for both that they cannot be modified. I can switch my startup disk and reboot in windows, no problem, so getting my files off isnt the issue. I have also tried to recover the hard disk using time machine which i was lucky enough to backup the day before it all went wrong. However, time machine runs fine until it asks me which disk to recover and it gives me an option of the time machine disk or bootcamp, but no option for my mac partition. So, I have tried everything that makes snese, but getting errors with disks lock, cant repartition, disk error needs repair (which i know is not true, its only because of the Mountain Lion OSX that its messed up). Any ideas?

You have some other problem with your boot drive that has corrupted data backed up to the TimeMacine drive.
My advice is to boot into each operating system and manually backup just your Users files each to separate regular external drives (no Timemachine or backup software) and disconnect.
Make a note of any serial numbers, emails, address book contacts, export bookmarks etc. that isn't typically in your users folders data.
You might be able to Winclone 3 the Windows as a whole thing as it's appearing not to have issues but it's your MacintoshHD partition that is so that will have to be rebuilt from scratch.
Most commonly used backup methods
If your OS X parititon doesn't boot, you can use this to recover files.
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Without any further detail about your machine I can't advise specifically what to do, but it involves using Disk Utility to Zero Erase (move slider one spot to the right or in 10.6 using Security Option) the ENTIRE boot drive and reformatting, then installing OSX fresh and then setting up BootCamp again.
If you wish to switch your boot drive for something better, this is a good time to do this.
Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
If your machine is capable of Internet Recovery, then use that, then upgrade.
If your machine came with 10.6 or earlier, then use the 10.6 install disks and work up from there.

IMac shuts down when trying to upgrade from Tiger to Leopard

My iMac, purchased in November of '07, came installed with Tiger but also came with a Leopard OS update disk. When trying to upgrade to Leopard last week, every time I rebooted off the disk the computer would run for a minute in the gray screen and then suddenly shut off with no warning message. I checked HD in disk utilities, repaired my permissions and tried again with the same results. I've got 30 gigs of free space and 4 gigs of RAM which should be plenty. I talked to Apple support who walked me through the installation procedure with the same results and ended up shipping me a new install disk which came today. I am getting the same shut down on reboot with their replacement disk. Apple actually sent me two white disks. The first is labeled "For Mac Computers, Mac OSX Install disc 1" The second is labeled "MacBook, Mac OSX Install Disc 2" Since the second disc is label "MacBook" is it possible they sent me the wrong set of discs?

Thanks for replying. I have a 500 gig hard drive which yields a 465gig usable capacity, so, at 30 Gigs available, I don't have 10% of the drive free. This may be an issue, but my more immediate problem is that I can't get the install disk to boot up at all.
I called apple support again see what I could find out about the install disks which wouldn't work. The support guy seemed like he had a lot of knowledge about the system and suggested trying the Tiger install disk (that came with the machine) to see if it would boot up, which it did. After that success, I tried the Leopard update disk in another iMac I have at home and it worked as it should. Since the disk worked fine on the other mac, the guy at tech support speculated that there is some sort of hardware issue causing the install shut down on the computer in question.
His speculation was about the memory installed in the machine which might be the issue. I had bought the computer from an Apple Authorized store here in town who upgraded the RAM to 4GIGs using third-party memory. Even though the memory seems to have functioned properly for the past year, apple support says that there could be some sort of incompatibility with the third party product causing the install disk not to work.
Apple support told me about running a memory diagnostic off of the Tiger install disk by rebooting with the disk in the computer and hold down the "D" key. After I got off the phone I ran the test which turned out to take an hour in its long version. The test indicated no problems, but apple had told me that it might not be totally conclusive. At this point, I'm taking the computer back to the store where I bought it and will let them figure it out.

Error 1053 when trying to upgrade from BOE 3.0 Fix Pack 3 to BOE 3.1 Update

Hi! I am trying to upgrade my BOE 3.0 FP3 Server to 3.1 (Update package, not full 3.1 install). The upgrade goes very well, and for a very long time, up until the very end. At the end when it tries to restart the Tomcat service it throws an error 1053 with the following message.
The Apache Tomcat 5.5.20 service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
I also get this same message if I try to start the service through Control Panel --> services or through CCM. The event viewer shows this message also in addition to the following..
Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Apache Tomcat 5.5.20 service to connect.
Has anyone seen this before or know if this is a known error? I am hoping for a workaround so I dont have to backout or reinstall!

Following information might help you to resolve the issue.
Solution1:
To resolve this behavior, use Computer Management to update the user profile so it is a member of the Administrators group, and then reboot the server to validate your changes.
Solution2:
You can disable DEP or add services to it:
1.Right-click on My Computer and select Properties.
2.Click the Advanced tab.
3.In the Performances section click Settings.
4.Click the Data Execution Prevention tab.
5.Use the Add button on the bottom to add the service's executables and ensure the box is checked. Do this for each Crystal Enterprise service.
Alternatively, you can disable DEP by checking the Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only option. By doing so, it will disable DEP to all applications on the machine including Business Objects.

[Solved] Conflicts when trying to upgrade from KDE 4.6.3 to 4.6.5

Any solutions?
Since i'm newbie, the only thing i can think of is forcing the removal of said packages and then re-install the kdeedu group or whole KDE, but it doesn't seem like a good idea.
Edit: also tried another mirror to be sure but nothing changed.
Edit2: I removed kdeedu-data and the 4 packages that relied on it with a simple -R and when the upgrade was complete i just re-installed the kdeedu group package to get the 4 packages i removed earlier.
Some info that might help developers prevent this from happening again: The standard behavior afaik on today's upgrade is pacman asking you to remove the kdeedu-data package and then the upgrade proceeds normally.
In my case the system was about one month old and on my -Syu today i upgraded pacman first. So basically i'm coming from an "older installation".

I am getting this error, when attempting to run the ultu102i script in preparation for an upgrade to 10g:

I have upgraded many databases to 10g from 8i, and have never seen this error before. I have the database started as 8i, and my environment set up as 8i (ORACLE_HOME, etc), and then I try to run teh utlu102i script that is within the /rdbms/admin directory of the 10g software home location.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

edit the utlu102i and utl102x.sql scripts and comment out the following two statements.
SELECT value INTO db_undo FROM v$parameter
WHERE name = 'undo_management';
SELECT value INTO db_undo_tbs FROM v$parameter
WHERE name = 'undo_tablespace';
this ones in metalink, i came accross it when upgrading to 10.2.0.3 i think its a new bug in this pathcset.

Error message when trying to upgrade from 10.3.9 to Tiger 10.4.5

Hope somebody can help. I'm fairly recent to macs as have always built and used pcs. Am having trouble upgrading from current pantherOS to Tiger. Bought emac with upgrade disc provided by seller. Disc was gray labelled emac. Installation went fine and everything was proceeding to point it finished writing files, configuring installation, and running installer scripts and then it quit with message: error installing software. Try reinstalling.
Tried reinstallation and same thing occurred. then Tried complete erase and new installation. Same error message.
Came to discussion group searching for something I might be doing wrong. Decided maybe disc was wrong even though it specified emac which is what I am using. Bought generic install disc that would install on any G3/4/5 with minimum specs per hardware which system met.Installation proceeded as it was going to install same as emac disc. This is normal full install disc for generic installation.
All installations screens came up and installation proceeded to same point as before and then quit with same message: error installing software/ Try reinstalling.
Have removed ram to original 256MB and tried. No luck. I am using external DVD for installation of DVD and wonder if this is problem but in the forums external DVD seems to work alright. Can reinstall old Panther OS without any problem
Ran hardware test and everything checked okay.
Should I just forget about upgrading and use 10.3.9 but would really like to know what is wrong. thanks. Rick

This would indicate that your MacBook Air does not meet the requirements for Mavericks.

I'm getting "Unknown Error 6" when trying to upgrade my iPhone 4S to iOS 8.1. The phone is then stuck on the red iTunes logo + USB screen. How can I get the phone working again?

I've tried upgrading my iPhone 4S using iTunes 12.01.26 on 4 different computers at home and at the office:
Macbook Air - OS X version 10.7.5
Macbook Pro - OS X Yosemite
2 PCs running Windows 7 Professional
iTunes downloaded the installer and the installation process seemed to get 90% complete before showing the error, "The iPhone, "iPhone" could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (6)."

I've tried holding the power button and home buttons down for ten seconds, then letting go of the power button, but keeping the home button down for another 10 seconds. I've also tried Reiboot, Wondershare Dr. Fone in desperation to try to get the phone out of this mode. Nothing seems to fix it.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Stuck upon upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard on MacBook pro

Hey Guys,
I'm experiencing some software issues upon upgrading, anyways I bought a Mac OSX snow leopard disk from the apple store today and wanted to upgrade from leopard, so i made a purchase. I read all of the instructions and inserted the disk, after a few minutes into the installation process, it prompted to restart and continue installation after restart. Once the macbook restarted, it booted up showing only the apple logo. I gave it a couple of minutes (20-30 minutes), yet same thing. Nothing appeared other than the gray apple logo and white background, no spiral w.e thats usually under the logo when installing or something. I've attempted it twice already but still no sign, i get the same results. Restarted my computer, took out the disk and booted back up, then retried the process once again, do any of you guys know a solution? Anyways i'm running on a MacBook pro i5, last years model.

Upgrading will not solve software issues. Fix the software issues first by isolating their cause. Is your data backed up?

I want to upgrade my MacBook Pro (13" mid 2012, 2.5GHz, Intel Core i5) from 4mg RAM to 8mg RAM. Running Mavericks. Any suggestions on which brand name RAM I should consider?
Do I need to go to an Apple Store to get my RAM put in (quite far for me) or is it okay to go to a place like Future Shop or Best Buy? Should I attempt it myself?

When trying to upload a cd onto itunes it chooses to chop the original cd into 4 separate albums and mix up the track order. Any ideas why and how to overcome this problem? ( the cd is guy gerber and called fabric 64)

Unable to open pdf from chrome or firefox on my macbook since the update.

I have a macbook pro. I use chrome or firefox in order to web browse. I have Adobe always running on the bottom of the screen. When I try to open pdf files from the web, it tells me that I need to end license agreement. I cannot figure out how. However, if I use safari, I am able to open the files. I have a macbook pro OSX 10.5.8 and cannot seem to upgrade to Snow Leopard using my Snow Leopard disk. My MacBook Pro has an Intel chip. Why is this so complicated and how am I supposed to install Snow Leopard if I can't do it via disk??

It may interest you to know that if you want to upgrade to Lion, the only additional cost will be $29 - one price for all the computers using your Apple ID. You must upgrade to Snow Leopard first.
Something else to keep in mind - your MacBook Pros may also meet Mountain Lions's requirements:
