2 Airport Expresses, only one can connect
Have 2 airport expresses....if I turn off password protection on the router, I can connect them both with zero issues through the airport utility. As soon as I change back to password protection, I can only get one to be "seen" by the airport utility after factory resetting. Any suggestions? The router is a 2wire from Uverse.
Mmmm, when you go to set up the second one, you could connect it by ethernet to your computer to make sure it is seen.

I have one Airport express feeding me the internet from the office. this unit has no speakers conected to it.
the second unit is in the living room and i want to send music to that one.
when i select the living room airport express i can't go online.
when i select the office unit i can't stream music to the
HiFi.....
I have downloaded AIRFOIL (3rd party app) to fix this but it can only connect to the airport express that i have select on the menu bar.

AirPort Express, only one device connected at a time.
I was setting up my uncles Airport Express yesterdy and got everything set up and the wifi signal broadcasting properly. It was then time to set up his iPad. I used a windows computer to set up the iPad and everything was going fine. After the iPad was running and I connected it to the network, I would lose the signal from the PC. From that point forward I would only be able to access the internet on the PC when the iPad's wifi was turned off.
I have had this problem with other routers before but was never able to figure out the problem. Is there something that I am missing? any help would be appreciated. I set the netork up with the default settings and set up a password to the network that has been entered correctly on both machines. Any help will be appreciated.How do you have your Airport Express setup?
On the Internet tab, what do you have for "Connection Sharing" ?
Off (Bridge Mode) ?
Share a public IP address ?
Other ?
Is your modem from your Internet provider just a modem, or a router, or a wireless router ????

I have been using Apple technology for about 10 years starting with 1st generation iPods and our house now includes a 5 year old iMac, all versions of iPods and touches, Apple TVs (both generations) and most recently an iPad 2. I have always told family and friends that Apple technology just works. Unfortunately that stopped today. I bought a new Airport Express 802.11n to use for AirTunes around my new pool. I set it up from my iMac and accidentally used it to connect my iMac to the network for a short time. Now I can no longer connect the iMac to the network using a hard wired Ethernet cable. I have tried resetting everything possible, from hubs to routers to the Mac itself and it just will not connect to the network through Ethernet any longer. I am now a very frustrated Apple user especially when the support site says I can't use the fast path support because my product was manufactured 5 years ago...I just bought it at BestBuy yesterday. All other computers and itechnology in the house are connecting via wifi and Ethernet without any issue except from my new iMac boat anchor. Anybody who can help me??? Thanks

I too hope I haven't tried "everything" either but I am reasonably technical. I had done what you suggested to do before but I did both again.
Ethernet is yellow in the left side bar. In the right pane it's status says Connected but then below it says "Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the Internet."
I have tried the assist me menu and Network Status has Ethernet Green, Network settings Yellow, ISP Green, and Internet and Server Red and Failed for both. I have turned things off and on, checked cables, deleted all locations and tried restting them up but to no avail. I even disconnected everything and connected the mac directly into the cable modem itself and the thing still will not connect.
Thoughts??? -

I just got an Airport Express and successfully set it up to extend my existing network (from an Airport Extreme Base Station). However, it seems to be only extending the 2.4GHz signal. When I look at the set-up in Airport Utility, it seems that I would have to select either the 2.4GHz OR the 5GHz...it can't seem to broadcast both signals (unlike the Airport Extreme)

Yes. If you have the AirPort Express set to "extend a wireless network", it will extend either the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band, but not both. The AirPort Express is dual band in a sense that it can handle 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz signals. But, it can't do this simultaneously.
The Express extends the band that it "sees" with the strongest signal, which will be the 2.4 GHz band in most cases because 5 GHz signals are weaker and do not penetrate obstructions or travel over distance as well as 2.4 GHz signals.
If you want to extend both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, you'll need another AirPort Express, or a simultaneous dual band AirPort Extreme would do the trick as well. -
Iphone 3GS has "169..." IP address after replacing old Airport Express
My 3GS is no longer connecting to my home network after replacing my old airport express.
Previously my old G5 iMac would have problems connecting to the old airport express, BUT my iPhone 3GS would reliably connect.
After installing this new airport express, my iMac is on the network, but NOW my iPhone 3GS is experiencing the same problem my iMac previously had: IP address changed to 169.254.205.191

Updated firmware on the Airport express
Network settings on iphone have been reset several times.
Airport express has been rebooted several times.

after alot of time trying to figure out what the problem is I figured out the problem but cant seem to sove it:
I have three router in my network one acts as a DHCP server (router 1) and the others act as AP, they all brodcast wirless (SSID) based on the internet connection coming from router 1, all devices including my old iphone 3g connect on all three router no problem and get assigned an ip address within range 192.168.1.~, however when i connect my 3gs to router 1 (DHCP) it works perfectly and connects to the internet but when I connect to any of the other routers I cannot have internet access and it takes a long time to show the wi-fi symbol (3 bars), I managed to overcome this by giving my second router another network IP i.e 192.168.2.~ and made it aother DHCP server (but another network) that way my 3gs connected just fine like the 1st router, the problem with this solution is that I am on two seperate networks but same internet feed so I cannot communicate between lapto, desktop, PS3...etc
I guess I have two options:
1- wait for an update for 3gs hoping this could be solved and keep my network as is.
2- assign three different networks just for 3gs to work and sacrifice my whole home sharing.
SOOOO Pleaseeeeee if anything know anything or could help me in anyway please and post, is it just me or have i heared alot of Wi-Fi problems with 3gs!!! -
2 Airport Expresses - Only 1 works at a time
I have two Airport Expresses. One is hooked up in my living room to a pair of remote speakers. The other is hooked up in an office directly to the internet. I can only get one to be recognized at a time. Is it possible to create a network that recognizes both at once?

However, the problem is not not being a
10.1.xxx.xxx ,
it is being a
169.xxx.xxx.xxx.
IP.
192 is generally good, and generally means you should be browsing away.
Check, if you can, the other computer ip address and the router address (both computers should have the same router address) .
You should have something like this for the two IPs :
192.===.===.xxx
and
192.===.===.yyy.
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 for both.
= means both computers should have the same number there (it might not be 3 digits) and xxx and yyy are supposed to be different.
Also, it does not have to be 3 digits, depending on the number of computers and your settings xxx could be x and yyy could be y.
Check to see if you can solve the problem. But provide a lot of information on your settings. The more info, the easier it will be to help you.

I reset my airport express to factory settings, reconfigured it and then try to play it and this message popped up. Where do I go from here? "An unknown error (-15006) occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “John Knox's AirPort Express”.
No more need for an answer... the problem has been solved!

I'm using iTunes 9 and I recently just bought AirPort Express. I have used it before in the past put the problem I have now is that I cannot select the Express network for my speakers. Does Airport Express only work with iTunes 10 or 11?

I want to reset my Airport Express (older version), but I get a message that my airport configuration program in mavericks is too new.
Mavericks does not support the older AirPort Express, so you will need to use....or borrow...a Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC to be able to administer the older Express.

I have an AirPort Express, iPhone 5, and MacBook (late 2010). How do I see the graphical overview of my network? (I can't seem to find a way to see it).
My computer is acting....well, strange. I can't put my finger on it but it doesn't seem right. Menus look skewed. Some applications look like they're trying to disguise themselves as apple (no consistant window formats). Airplay turns on and off on my devices on it's own. And some locked system preference seem to unlock themselves, or won't even grey-out after I lock them.
I have changed my password many times but the issue keeps coming back. I feel like I'm going crazy - but I know that something just isn't right...maybe someone's been hacking me? (I have no idea why...)
Anyway, maybe I could have stemmed from an improper setup of my wireless network.
Any thoughts?

I own an Airport Express and since august 2012 I am not able to receive and download any updates for it.
The light on the AX is also flickering orange and that is a sign of a weak or bad connection according to the manual.
I have tried a soft reset but still no improvement !
When I am trying to work with the Airport Configuration Utility it does not recogneize any AX base station .
Can anybody tell me if encountered the same issue and explain to me how to resolve it ?

First try a "hard reset".
If that does not enable you to use AirPort Utility to configure the Express, then try a "factory defaults reset":
To "hard reset" an AirPort Base Station: make sure it's powered up, then press and hold its tiny reset button and keep it depressed for five to ten seconds, long enough for its LED to flash amber rapidly. Release the reset button. Then, the LED will glow amber steadily for about a minute. Then, it will flash amber, slowly, about once every second or two, waiting for you to configure it with AirPort Utility.
