HT4623 I'm trying to upgrade iPad to ios5. It tells me to go to settings, general,then hit software upgrade. But under general their is no software upgrade?

I'm trying to upgrade iPad to ios5. I was given directions to go to setting, general, then software upgrade. My problem is I see nowhere under general it shows software upgrade?

You cannot do that until you upgrade to iOS 5 or later. See:

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, if you have iOS 4 then you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.

You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Cannot upgrade iPad 3 to iOS6. When I go to Settings - General - Software Update it says iOS 5.1.1 Your software is up to date

Cannot upgrade iPad 3 to iOS6.
Earlier, I did get the iOS 6 update under Software. However my iPad ran out of power and the upgrade did not go through. Now that my iPad is powered up I cannot seem to get the software upgrade.
When I go to Settings -> General -> Software Update , I no longer see the iOS 6 upragde and instead it says iOS 5.1.1 Your software is up to date.

I need to update my ipad2 to ios5 and it has never been updated since original purchase in 2012. There is no button available for updates when i select general.

Connect it to a computer with iTunes, select the iPad from the Devices in the left sidebar, then select Software Update from the main Summary window. If it is an iPad 2 it will update to iOS 6.1.3.

What version of iOS are you currently on (Settings > General > About > Version) ? If you are on iOS 4 or below then you can only update via your computer's iTunes, it is only after you have iOS 5+ on the iPad that future updates can be done directly on the iPad via Settings > General

I'm trying to turn off the "Handoff" feature. When I go to "settings and then general" I do not have the option to turn off "Hand Off". Help Please

Can't seem to make this work. I am up to date with my updates on both I-Phone and I-Pad. The "Hand-off" feature is working, and I don't want it. How do I turn it off? I don't have the option to do that when I go to General & Settings. Is it located somewhere else? Apple says that is where it is. What am I doing wrong, The "wonderful feature" is driving me crazy. Thanks for your reply I have set up home sharing for music but on appletv now they want me to subscribe to iTunes match for an annual fee. I cannot find an 'advaced' option on any menu. Perhaps ihad it all wrong with appletv I thought I would be able to have the same apps on my appletv as I had on my iPad bt is it really just for renting videos off iTunes?

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.

If you are now seeing a screen with the USB cable and an iTunes logo, you'll need to connect your iPhone to a computer with iTunes installed, provided the data on your iPhone hasn't already been lost it should back-up once it's connected in iTunes.

I have been trying to upgrade my iPad 2, v4.3.5 since the 5.0 versions were released. I have spend way too much time trying to upgrade so I can enjoy apps which require the newer version. I have read so many comments about others having the same problem

Every time I start the download process in iTunes, it stalls and nothing happens. I've tried restoring, and I've followed and tried all of Apple's instructions and directions but it still doesn't work. I do not see this specific problem addressed by Apple anywhere. After reading the posts in this community, I am sure that the problem does not lie within only my iPad. If that is the case, why is there no answer on how to fix this problem. I am at my wit's end and would appreciate any ideas...although I've tried fooling with DNS numbers, fooling with the wifi, turning it off and on, creating a new iTunes account and downloading from that account. I've read about jailbreak software but my version isn't covered yet. HELP!!!
