Hello hfb8,
I would be be concerned too if I was not able to update my iPhone. If you have not resolved the issue, I recommend following the steps in this article for an issue like this:
iOS: Unable to update or restore

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I started to update my ipad but I have an old MacBook and it's really old and I don't have the correct software to update anything. But my ipad is stuck on the connect to itunes screen and wont budge. What do I do?!
Your options depend on which MacBook you have and the version of OS X installed.

So my iPhone 5s will not let me get past the connect to iTunes page.
Thursday night I went to go download iOS 8.0.2 and it said I needed to connect to iTunes. So I plugged my cord into my laptop and it opened up iTunes and proceeded to tell me that I needed to update and restore. So I clicked it and it began updating. After over a day, and many different attempts, it finally downloaded all the way through and then said it was processing the item. After this, there was a said error and I had to restart the update. I haven't been able to use my phone at all and it will not let me get past the connect to iTunes page. Please help.I was able to restore my phone!!!
I called Apple and they said there was nothing more I could do. I called my carrier Verizon and was able to get my computer to recognize my device after trying this-
Solution:
After trying EVERYTHING this is the ONLY thing that worked-
I took the USB connector cable out of the USB port it was in, and tried another one on the otherside of my laptop and iTunes was able to discover my phone in recovery mode. My phone was reset and everything is fine ( thank gosh for backup copies!) -
I did a full system restore to my phone along with the new 7.0 update. Now I went to restore my phone setting back through Itunes and it goes through all the steps but when it is completed it wont get past the "Connect to Itunes" screen
So what happens when you connect to iTunes?

IOS 7 updated and now phone will not get off the connect to itunes screen
Connect to itunes on your computer and see if it prompts you to restore or activate. Try resetting the device by holding the sleep/wake and power button for 10-15 seconds then release. If that pesky screen still shows you may need to force recover the device. Power the device completely off, press and hold the home button and plug into itunes and do not release the home button until it says itunes has detected a device in recover mode.

Hello Cat13Cuellar
Not sure if you have tried the steps in the articles below to get your iPhone back up and running. The first one will force your iPhone into recovery-mode and iTunes should ask to restore your iPhone. The last two articles are for troubleshooting the connection to your computer depending on what type of computer you have.

I backed up my phone on itunes before I began this process. I downloaded itunes 11.1 While downloading ios7 I had an error message which was likely due to the limited memory space available on my laptop..(I cleaned some stuff up and it downloaded) When I plugged my phone back in it said it was in recovery mode. I restored my phone and saw that all my apps and music loaded. Then it synced. I tried to swipe the "hello" screen but was taken to the choices:
1. Set up as new iphone 2. restore from icloud backup 3. restore from itunes back up. I have never done an icloud backup and I DID do an itunes backup today so I selected option 3. This is where I'm stuck. It says "connected to itunes' and won't let me do anything else.
(I have restarted my computer, restarted the phone, did the recovery/hold the button down thing, restored it to another point from today etc...)
Any suggestions would be appreciated ..need phone tomorrow!!See Here > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
You may need to try this More than Once...
Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
But... if the Device has been Modified... this will Not necessarily work -
I tried to update my iphone 4 it had an error and now wants to connect to itunes
When I connect it to itunes it no longer finds my phone.
OK, here is Apple's KB article about that error: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error1604
To supplement it:
Reboot your computer
Launch iTunes
disable your firewall and antivirus
Connect to a USB port on the computer, not a hub
Dlsconnect all other USB devices except mouse and keyboard
Then follow Apple's instructions. Good luck!
If it still fails, and you are on Windows, here is a long shot:
Open a command window and type:
netsh winsock reset
Then try again. (There was a Windows update 3 weeks ago that corrupted winsock data). -
How do I get past the "Connect to iTunes" part of my updated iPod touch?
I updated my iPod touch to the new iOS 5 software. I did all the steps and selected 'Restore from iTunes Backup'. The next screen said 'Connect to iTunes'. I did that and it synced. However, it still says "Connect to iTunes". I ran the iTunes diagnostics and it said that it did sync and there is about half a gig of data on my iPod touch. But I still can't get past the "Connect to iTunes" screen. I even updated iTunes itself, but it still won't work. What do I do to get my iPod back? Surely I don't have to spend $30 plus to get all my apps and songs back. What can I do?
Help!
Thanks,
skiracer204- Are yu sayin that you keep restoring the iPod but it just keeps telling you restore it again? If so then this sounds like your problem:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes): This issue is typically caused by out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software. Please followTroubleshooting security software issues if USB troubleshooting does not resolve this issue.

Updated my iPhone 3GS (recent phone - xmas this year), to 5.1.1 when iTunes suggested it. Restored phone under advice from prompts, iTunes has recognised my phone to have updated, but the phone itself is still stuck on the 'Connect to iTunes' screen in the restore phase. Very frustrating. Any advice?
