HT6031 I i look under 'about grageband' it shows "version '11" it is a new mac since december 2013. is this $4.99 expansion  suitable for my mac or not?

i need to expand the drum loops th current ones are too limited

The GarageBand 10.0 expension package can only be installed, if you are running the newest GarageBand 10.0. The drummers will not work with the previous GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5.
If you want GarageBand 10.0 with the new drummers and arpeggiators, you can upgrade to GB 10.0 for free, if you upgrade your system to MacOS X 10.0.2.  You can buy it (free) from the "featured" tab of the App Store. Don't uninstall GarageBand '11. Both versions are very different, and you may want to use both. The newest GarageBand does not yet support all features the old version does support, and the user interface is different.
After installing GB 10.0, use the menu item "GarageBand > Restore Purchase" to download the additional sounds.

  • Trying to install the Aim version of ichat on my new mac I only seem to be using the messages I want it to look like the old aim i used on my old mac

I used to run ichat though Aim, I just purchased a new mac mini and I am able to socialize then different wasy except Ichat through aim. It's very important that i use this because it's the only way to keep up with my professors, colleages and family members who all use ichat through aim

    Hi,
(Umm, I was only away a few days - Community Specialists are supposed to wait a week)
The Messages app is basically iChat with the iOS Messages app added on.
This adds the iMessages features.  (essentially Apple's Own Messaging service like AIM or MSN but more like a system without a Buddy list)
If you happened to have Migrated your User account from your old Computer you may find that the System Preferences > Mail, Contact and Calendars pane has picked up on both emails and Names and IDs used in iChat and they may be active for Messages.
On first run Messages will tend to ask for an Apple ID to be "registered" with the iMessages service.
Once you have done this it will open the Main Messages window (It has become a Tabbed Chat and Interface combined purpose window that is "always On" by default.
As Braden has said you can add a Screen Name or Jabber ID  or a Yahoo ID.
The Add Pane reduces the AIM Variants for MobileMe and @Mac.com to just AIM (add the Screen Name in Full) but retains the Google separation in Jabber.
The next issue is that by default Buddy Lists are not on Show.
Go to the Window Menu  and use the "Buddies" or "CMD + 1" keystrokes.
This then is a combined window (Of all the Buddy List accounts such as Bonjour if enabled, Jabber/Google/Facebook or Yahoo or AIM (valid) ones.
In the Preferences > General Section there is a line about "Gather All Accounts into one List"
Unticking this will separate out the Buddy lists you have.
    To be clear.
You will be asked for an Apple ID to "Register" for iMessages.
    Other Account have Buddy Lists
By Default these appear in one List but can be separated.
As you may know certain Apple IDs ending in @mac.com and those linked to iCloud using @me.com and @icloud.com ending are also Valid AIM Screen Names.
If you use your Apple ID as your AIM Name then you will have to enter it as the Apple ID for iMessages and then in the Add Pane as the AIM name.
Main Window  (Window Menu > Messages, CMD +0 )
Has an icon that looks like a square box and pencil.
This will add a "New Message" to the left.
The blue icon that appears top right can be used to select Contact (for iMessages) or Buddies.
Also Typing a Name in the "To" spot will bring up a list of Contacts and Buddies with indicators as to whether they are iMessages, AIM or Jabber or Yahoo potential connections.
Chats (Buddy lists) or Conversations (iMessages contacts) remain AIM to AIM, Jabber to Jabber or iMessages to iMessages.
If you have a Valid AIM Name you will have to add this to Messages to continue where you left off in iChat.

  • Some advice - about to buy new Mac Mini.

Hi everyone - I'm hoping that someone can help me out with some advice.
I'm a former blackberry user and not a mac user, so I hope I'm clear in my explanation.
My mother is a PC user currently and owns a Blackberry Curve 8900.  Actually, she and my dad both do, and currently use the PC to sync their (shared) calendar and contacts from one login in Windows XP to both of their blackberries.  Yep, they're at that stage where they really don't need independent contacts or calendar.  They sync with USB and curerntly use Outlook -- so no Exchange integration is needed for push email/etc.
Anyway, the PC is on its absolute last legs and I was thinking of migrating them over to a new Mac Mini since she's never really gotten the hang of Windows XP and I'm guessing that she'll do better on the Mac OS.  Plus her friends all use Macs and I'm hoping they can help her.  I'm guessing we'll just get them the latest version of Entourage with their new Mac.
I've been holding off migrating them to this until the Blackberry Desktop Manager for Mac was available because the Blackberry Desktop Manager on their PC is one of the few things that works really well for them.  They're used to the interface, and it just works.
So, now that it's available I was looking through the forums here and it looks like there might be some issues with it that are persistent?  I've seen references to 32 bit vs 64 bit and other sorts of stuff that I don't quite get.
Can anyone tell me if the new system for them would just work? Maybe someone out there has a similar configuration?
Or should I hold off or just consider moving them to a new Windows PC instead?
    So it would be:
    * 2 Blackberry Curve 8900s syncing to a single shared set of contacts and calendar using Blackberry Desktop Manager.  They don't do email sync and probably won't make much use of audio sync.  Images, though, yes.
    * Brand new Mac Mini, which evidently comes with Mac OS X 10.6 (I don't know if it is 32 bit or 64 or what??)
    * Sync to Entourage from Office 2008
    thanks in advance,Aaron

Let me respond.  First 10.6 (known as Snow Leopard) enables 64 bit technology...you can read this for more info:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/technology/
Now as far as sync goes...Unfortunately there is no perfect solution.  Why?  BB, Entourage, Mac Address Book & iCal do not share identical "fields".  So it is impossible to get them to all have the same info.  The truth of the matter is, I do not think your parents will need to constantly sync the contacts...seriously how many new people do they met to add to their contact list?  It is probably a one time...let me get all of their contacts on the computer and the devices.  Now the calendar does need to be synced regularly.  Some have had no issues with the sync between iCal and BB...others...well a different story.  I migrated my parents (both sets) to Mac about 8-10 years ago.  Why, because Mac software (OS included) is so much easier for them to understand and use.  I also do the technical support (which I can do remotely with screen sharing) which is easier for me (and there are not many issues).  I use mobile me and we have contacts and calendars synced across the family...all automated (if I make a change they get it within seconds).  Hope this helps.

  • I have Logic on my iMac and want to install it on my new mac book but my mac book doesn't have a dvd drive. I tried to download the upgrade but it looks for an older version. How do I get Logic on the Mac book ?

I would like to install logic on my new mac book but there is no dvd drive. I tried to downlaod the upgrade but that didn't work. How do I download it for the first time?
    Thanks!

You can only use the App Store version to reinstall on your new Mac if you bought Logic via the App Store in the first place.... and then it will appear under the Purchases tab in the Mac App Store App so long as you are signed in using the same Apple ID you used to purchase Logic via the App store in the first place.
If you bought the DVD edition of Logic Studio then you must initially install using those original DVDs to begin with and then update to the latest version of your version of Logic via software updates.
No DVD drive? Buy an external one.. Amazon do a very cheap basic one that works well..
    or...
Use Remote Disk if you still have your older Mac which has a built in DVD drive...

  • Updated to 3.6.15 but, "About Mozilla Firefox"shows 3.6.13

    Hello,
Updated via "Check for updates" to latest version.
Further check indicates program is up to date and no update available.
However, "About Mozilla Firefox" shows version 3.6.13,
    Plain confusing.
Edit: (Please note, it applies to laptop and NOT the system used to post this issue.)

    John99, thanks for the information.
I will check the link you provided and reset "Three preferences" noted.
As the laptop is not here with me, the following applies:
    Win XP pro SP3
FF extentions; ONLY flashgot, flashblock and adblock
FF plugins; shockwaveFlash, Foxit (pdf) reader, standard Java plugins, and FF default plugin. All up to date.

When I look at the storage on my Mac under about this Mac, what is included in the "other" category?

    Hi, just about everything else...
OmniDiskSweeper is likely the easiest/best, and is now free...
    http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnidisksweeper/download/
And if needed, you can use Terminal to run it in admin mode to see files/folders your user can't see...

  • Are you supposed to see the 9600gt under "about this mac"?

    Hi!
My girlfriend had a problem (black screen) with her unibody MBP 2,8ghz with dual Graphic card. She went to the apple store where they reset the SMC. The laptop worked again after that.
However when we look at "about this mac" we only see the 9400M and NOT the 9600GT. Yes we allready switched over to "best performance".
Is this normal? Or would this indicate that even though the laptop works again, the dedicated Graphic card doesn't?
Is there another way to know what Graphic card you are using?
    Please let us know...

Yes, you should see both GPUs listed under System Profiler > Hardware > Graphics/Displays. If you don't, go back to the Apple Store and consult a Genius.

  • Looked on ITunes under devices preferences, IPhone shows locked, how can i unlock device backups?

I have an  IPhone 5 & trying to get my info back that I just lost. Someone advised to look under ITunes Preferences, device backups, however mine is showing my IPhone backup is locked. How do I undo that?

    Hello Paredes-Power,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
Here is more info on what you are seeing. It is called an Encrypted backup.
    iTunes: About iOS backups
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
    iTunes and encrypted backups
In the iTunes Summary screen, select "Encrypt iPhone backup" if you want to encrypt the information stored on your computer when iTunes makes a backup. Encrypted backups are indicated by a padlock icon, and a password is required to restore the information to iPhone. You may want to write down the password for your backup and store it in a safe place. If you use a Mac, when you set a password you can select to store the password in the keychain. With iOS 4 and later, you can transfer the iOS keychain backup to a new device if you encrypt the backup.
Warning: If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and then forget your password, you will not be able to restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable. If you forget the password, you can continue to back up and use the device, however you will not be able to restore the encrypted backup to any device without the password. You do not need to enter the password for your backup each time you back up or sync.
If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore, choose set up as a new device
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Looking something about SIP Trunking product from ...

looking something about SIP Trunking product from skype connect to my SIP PBX system, is skype connect is same as sip trunk?

What are recommendations and best practice - mount  AP under or above the ceiling?
Do NOT install the WAP inside the ceiling cavity (hidden from view) as it will cause signals to degrade.
There are some stuff inside the ceiling cavity that could cause signals to misbehave.

  • I have just bought an iPhone 5 and it won't sync to iTunes.  It says it needs  iTunes 10.7, which I have downloaded and installed.  I still get the error message and looking at "about iTunes" it says 10.6.3.  What do I do??

Perhaps check to see if you're accidentally running two different versions of iTunes. There's some information on troubleshooting that in the Opening iTunes section of the following document:

  • Storage values under about this mac displaying incorrectly, but amount of space used IS correct. Any ideas?

I noticed recently that the "storage" under "about this mac" is displaying incorrectly. It doesn't show the correct values for my photos, videos, and audio files. It classifies this data under "other". I have been searching all over the internet, I went to the Apple genius bar yesterday and they recommended I re-install OSX. I did and it still shows up incorrectly. They were baffled, said they never really came across this issue. I have tried re-indexing spotlight, that didn't seem to help.
The amount of storage used IS correct. It just doesn't show up under the correct categories in storage, under about this mac. Also, the computer seems to work fine. No real issues. It's a mid 2012 MBP. 500gb hard drive. Most recent OSX is installed.
I DO NOT think it is local snapshots, cause my backups category is small and the amount of space used and free is correct. I have downloaded omnidisk sweeper to confirm this.
I have seen a few posts on here and around the web referring to this, but no real answers. I have also reviewed Pondini's info on this to no avail.
    Does anyone have any ideas?!?!

    Also,
I had installed a version of parallels with windows 7, but deleted it. Would parallels be causing my computer to index incorrectly? I I used appcleaner to delete all the parallels files so I do not have it anymore.

  • I have rented a movie on iTunes and saw it downloading. Where is it now?? I have looked under videos, as someone suggested, but there is nothing there and no "rentals" tab - or any other tabs to choose.

I have rented a movie from iTunes but where is it now? I have looked under videos,as someone suggested, but there is nothing there and no tabs to choose.

It does take some time for a movie to download, could it still be downloading ? Also the rental tab is only there when you have rented a movie. If all else fails talk to iTunes support, they have helped me in the past.
