HTML effect question

Hi guys,
I am trying to work out how to do something with html and
need a little help.
On ebay, I have seen an effect that some sellers use. It is
basically a box with text in, and say 5 buttons above it with for
example, about us, payment, shipping, etc on them. Now, when you
click one of these button, the content of the box below changes,
obviously to something relevant to what button has been pressed.
But with ebay, you can only paste in html from one page in
dreamweaver, its not like ftp hosting where you can put up several
pages and like to anoter page when one of the buttons is clicked to
create that affect.
So what I want to know is, how do you create this effect in
only one page of Dreamweaver?!

here is an example of what I mean:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110244482430&ssPageName=STRK:MEW A:IT&ih=001
if you look about half way down the page there is a links bar
with about us, payment, shipping etc across it and a table below,
and if you click on the tabs you can see that the content of the
box below changes but the page doesn't refresh.
I took a look at the code but I can't for the life of me work
it out. You can only use one long page of html for eBay listings
and can't link to outside pages so how they are doing this is
beyond me. Can anyone help?

  • Dynamic HTML effects in IE11

    Hi,
For the past few years I have used a website with simple dynamic HTML effects in it to teach people how to double click a mouse. I had a series of images that disappeared off the page when they double clicked on them, I had added the DHTML effects using
Front Page 2003, up until IE11 I could still make the effects work by setting the browser to support compatibility mode but now I can't see how I can activate this content. Is it possible to make the double click effect work by simply altering the JavaScript
    on the page?
Thank you in anticipation of your help.

  • Spry Effects questions

I have two (2) questions about using the Spry Effects script in a horizontal slide configuration.
    Question 1:
In DW CS4 if I add the command <duration: 500,> the numerals turn red.  I also get an error in line ???? from DW which is the line the variable is on.  If I go ahead and accept the change I see the desired quicker slide in Firefox and Safari.  The default is 1,000 milliseconds so I am cutting it in half.  But!  In Internet Explorer 7 the script locks the browser window up.  Even if I revert to the saved HTML and JS files the problem still persists.  This problem also occurs if I set the duration higher than 1,000 milliseconds.
This also happens if I upload the files to the Internet.  I was forced to redo the line in question and copy my saved SpryEffects.js over to my working directory.  This unlocked the file in Internet Explorer 7.  Any suggestions on how to get the quicker response time in Internet Explorer 7?
    Question 2:
In Firefox I get a border around the button that enacts the Spry Effect.  I set the text decoration to "none" for both of the IDs for the images.  This thin line does not appear in Internet Explorer 7 or Safari 4.0.3.  My version of Firefox is version 3.5.3.
The file can be viewed here.
    Thank you in advance.

I have also found that the Spry works better in FireFox than
IE7, when it comes to video
    http://www.catholicmemphis.com/catholicmensconference.html
Check out this page and you will see that the Spry tabbed
menu stops the video in FireFox but not in Explorer. I have seen
this type of problem in a few forums, but know one gives an answer
    to those looking for solutions....

  • Silly HTML wordwrapping question...

Sorry if the question seems dumb, but is there a way to
    insert a space in a
block of text that won't break up a word during wordwrapping?
    Example : « This is a test »
I like the spaces between the quotation marks and the quoted
    text. But I
don't want either of them left stranded. I want this block of
    text to behave
like those 2 spaces don't exist. Wrap BEFORE the 1st quote,
    or after the 2nd
one (or at any point in between as long as it's between two
    words).
How do I tell those two spaces to be ignored by wordwrapping
    rules?
    Thanks.

    Or HTML -
    " whatever "
But Cosmo's solution is a more efficient way for sure.

  • If you need help quickly... Guideline for posting an effective question.

Whenever you have a question that you would like answered, do pose that question effectively.
First, do not assume that because you have tried many, many times that your question is understood by someone else. What is obvious to you may not be for another. So please state in a very detailed and structured way what steps you have taken to cause your problem, how you can replicate this problem, under what circumstances on what hardware/software.
The fact that you have nearly given up because of your problem does not mean that someone else can readily understand this problem. When you go to your doctor and say: "I have a pain in my stomach" he will ask you a lot of questions. Same applies here. Your doctor may need to know about any medication you have taken, your blood pressure, history, etc. If you want help, be as PRECISE and ACCURATE as possible.
Second, this is a USER TO USER forum. So ranting will not help. What may help is a STRUCTURED approach to describing the problem you have.
Third, do a thorough search of posts here, on other fora and with Google before repeating what has been asked a thousand times and has worn out the patience of regulars here, who have answered your question a dozen times already. Use the FAQ and the Wiki to find answers to questions that have been posed and answered repeatedly. Do not assume you are unique with your problem. Well, you are unique, the problem you have most likely is not.
Fourth, realize that even though it may be highly frustrating to you to not be able to solve YOUR problem, by posting your question here, you are dependent on fellow editors to help you on their free time without compensation, so bear with them to help identify what EXACTLY is your problem. If you lack that decency, you may forfeit their help, so why did you come here?
Fifth, consider your work flow in light of the purpose of Premiere, an editing package. If you have problems with rotoscoping, programming with APL, spreadsheets in general, word processing on a mobile phone, importing Panda bears into a local zoo, feeding nearly distinct whales in the Alps, or anything far removed from the purpose of PP, you may be better off in posting your question elsewhere.
    Last:
Everybody has to learn, has the right to ask questions and be helped.
If everybody has the decency to pose their urgent, life threatening or other questions in a detailed, structured and comprehensible way, it will vastly improve the chances of speedy and helpful replies, without the need for sarcasm, bundles of to-and-fro posts without meaningful help, just wasting bandwidth.
I know I have been rightly accused of such behavior, which was the result of sheer frustration with absolutely meaningless and often pointless questions without details, structure and the like. Maybe this can be a general guideline for posters on how to ask questions, in addition to Eddie's links and How to ask questions the smart way
The most frustrating issues one can encounter are hangs, BSOD's (blue screens of death), system errors and other cases of seemingly random erros that require rebooting, restarting or similar actions, only to be confronted with the next hang, BSOD or system crash.
These errors are often difficult to locate, due to the large variety of systems, components and driver or software versions in use. This is often further aggravated by sheer lack of expertise, understanding of what needs to be communicated in order for others to help solve the issue at hand. And that list is very long.
So, in order to make it a bit simpler for the average user who encounters these problems, follow the following steps when posting a problem:
    1. Clearly describe the main problem in the topic, but be brief. Not so brief as to only say: "Help!" or "URGENT" or another meaningless statement but get to the point, like: "PP crashes on opening, requiring a reboot" or "Using DL the system hangs upon return to PP". You get the point.
    2. Briefly describe your hardware, software, OS and versions in use, including disk setup, video card and driver versions, etc.
    3. Describe source material, including codec (not AVI, which is not a codec), project settings and other relevant info.
    4. Describe as accurately as possible what you did, what steps you took, what happened at what moment and what you did to try to resolve it.
    5. Go to Start/Run, type in DXDIAG, enter and save all information to a TXT file. Include a link to that file in your post.
    6. Go to Start/Run, type in MSINFO32 (or similar for 64 bit OS), enter and save the results as a .NFO file. Include a link to that file in your post.
    7. Download Process Explorer , and either post a screen shot or a link to the results.
    8. Make a screen shot of the results of SpeedFan or HW Monitor and include that in your post.
When you perform these basic steps, you avoid endless questions about your system and people may be able to help you faster.
If you feel up to it, take a look at The Case of the Unexplained to start your own troubleshooting.
Hope this helps to post more meaningful questions and get an answer much quicker.

  • Html & flash question

It is possible to embed a flash .swf inside an html web page.
Is it possible to embed an html file, such as a long text file, into a flash .swf space, such as a blank movie clip box?
Is there an alternative way to stick giant text files into a flash style document?

I definitely discovered this yesterday. Bold and Italic work, but break, paragraph, A HREF, and Headers didn't. With so many restrictions it seems the htmltext option is worthless (kind of like a new Itouch on a camping trip).
    Related question:
Is there a special protocol, in actionscript that allows Youtube videos to be embedded (rather than creating a hotlink to a new html page with the standard youtube embedding technique) ?
    Almost related question:
    I used this format:
    clicke2.onRelease = function(){
        getURL("http://www.google.com", "_blank");
for a winamp/mp3 radio station button, with the goal of doing something vaguely similar to shoutcast for a more specific list of internet radio stations, as shown below:
    clicke4.onRelease = function(){
        getURL("http://www.sky.fm/mp3/classical.pls", "_blank");
this opens a blank html document and plays in winamp. I tried this:
    clicke4.onRelease = function(){
         getURL("http://www.sky.fm/mp3/classical.pls", "_self");
but it did the same thing - opening a blank page along with the winamp. Opening the winamp is the goal, opening a blank page is not. Is there a way to not open the blank page?

  • HTML random question score incorrect.  SWF works fine

    Version 8.0.1.242
Question pool 25 questions. Random Question slides inserted. All questions set to score 1.  24 are multichoice, all standard.
    Published as HTML
Score reported is 1 out of x.
I have tested with 3, 5 and 25 random questions from the pool.  But the score is always 1 out of x
    Published as SWF
    Works correctly
I really need the HTML version.
Closed, reloaded.  Saved as - retested. Turned it off and turned it back on. Sacrificed a mouse...

  • RoboHelp HTML Licensing Question

    Hi all,
I am a consultant that has been preparing a RoboHelp HTML
help file for a client. At the moment, I have a license that I use
for development purposes but thus far the client is still awaiting
a purchase order for their own license for further maintenance and

Question: can I provide the project output to the client for
their distribution via webserver without them having the license?
Or, do they need a license before they can put the production help
    file up for browsing?
    thanks

  • Special effect question - beginner

I am a beginner at video editing.  In fact, I have never edited a video before.  My kids have a video with a wizard wand and want to have a lightning bolt come out of it and we can insert items to look like they created with magic.  Is this something this software can do?  Are there "stock" flash lightning bolts etc?  I am looking for a product to purchase that I will be able to figure out easy or get assistance.
    Thanks

    Hi braxpark,
After Effects would be the place to add the lightning bolt effect to your video in Premiere Pro.
The two products work together easily: How to work on After Effects projects in Premiere Pro (and vice-versa) | Adobe Premiere Pro CC tutorials
Regarding the effect you're interested in, you can learn more here:

  • Channel Changing effect question.

Question for the professionals:  How can I create a “channel change” with distortion, etc. effect on Final Cut Pro?  I need it for a sketch so with each segue, or scene, it looks like the “viewer” changed the channel.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Cross Platform HTML Email Questions

    Hi,
I am creating new html emails from within dreamweaver for use in a service like constant contact. The service I use is COMF5. They have a rudimentary (but nice) WSYIWYG editor so I am giving it a whirl in Dreamweaver.
I first made the mistake of creating a beautiful file in CSS, pasted it in the editor and found divs and info floating all over the place.
I just found an article by an adobe pro on doing this and ZOMG, what a huge help. Here is what I think I underatand and my question:
    1. Everything is tables, inclding the background which is created at 98%.
    2. The body is to be nested tables.
    3. Attributes are to be defined within the table by use of the property bar and not to include creating css rules.
    4. The one exception is inline styles created within the boundaries of the table.
    5. Important rule is to not have CSS sitting at top of code in document.
My big question at present is, how can I code links to be other than blue and underlined? I would use CSS to do that on my pages.
Thanks ain advance for further insight!

I'll second what Joey said.  Everything inline with email clients.  They are too unreliable, especially with Outlook.  Constant Contact though can be a pain in that you can't just add links to the email if you want them to be tracked.  Search their documentation for the "SimpleURLProperty" tag that they use.  If you do not include this, and the code they leave for you in the code view when you import your own code, none of their tracking features will work.  And this goes for images as well as text links.  Lots of conditions when sending through Constant Contact if tracking is a key.  One of the key reasons I have used other services for awhile now.

  • Post html editing question

    Hi All,
I am putting a flash music player on one of my pages. Here is the problem. I thought it would be a nice effect if I created a box for the flash player to sit it. So thats what I did, used the shapes tool, created my flash player holder, and inserted a text box in which I entered "enterhtmlhere". I published, edited the html, and republished only to find that the flash player was about 1 inch lower than the box I created for it. Normally I have had good luck with placing html edited objects on my sites, and didn't do anything different. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Sometimes for whatever reason, your coded HTML elements don't line up with the text box exactly. I don't know why. But I have seen this as well. The way I deal with this is just to compensate for the shift back in iWeb. The text box is your coded element, so if the flash object seems shifted an inch lower, then I would shift the text box an inch higher inside iWeb.
It's not elegant, but it has worked for me.
    varkgirl...
I found the same kind of phenomenon with YouTube videos. Then I looked closer at the embed code and found that the width dimensions that it lists by default is twice the width of the actual movie for some reason. Once I corrected this, the movie was perfectly positioned.... in case you ever get the inclination to do YouTube again.

  • Robohelp X5 For HTML Support Question

We are currently using Robohelp X5 for HTML and are
contemplating an upgrade to version 7 probably later this year. In
the meantime, has there been any discussion about ending support
    for X5?
Please let us know - thanks.

    Hi Wayne
There will be wars and there will be rumors of wars...
X5 was introduced in January 2004. I'm not sure what you mean
by "ending support". If that question is intended to ask if Adobe
will "officially" stop supporting that version, I'm personally not
    sure they ever have!
This isn't intended to slam Adobe Support in any way, but
probably your best form of support is right here in these forums.
As for upgrading to version 7, why upgrade to that when 8 is
available and offers a richer experience?
    Cheers... Rick

  • Browser and transition/effects questions

Sorry Guys n Gals, me again!
    Simple q's for you all...
Firstly, when I view browser by "large icons" is there anyway I can arrange the clips by order they were captured? I can do this as a list but for some reason cant do it in "large icon" view!
Secondly, when I apply a transition or effect can I preview it (like in i-movie) before rendering it?
    Thanks
    Alps

    Ta Gary.
Bit of a bu**er that Apple didn't allow us to have order of capture easier on icon view!! I really dont think I have the patience to re-label all my captured clips after I've captured em!!
Oh, and after I typed the [stupid] question of "how to preview effects/transitions" I realised how stupid a question it was. I think I've figured it out now!
Now just wait for my next silly question/s............
