HTML5 meta http-equiv

I just learned that my favorite meta tags with http-equiv are obsolete in HTML5 doc types.
What should I be using to replace this tag?
     <meta http-equiv="last-modified" content="05 March, 2013 19:00:00 gmt">

A similar approach to the one in the recent cache prevention thread: in .htaccess
<IfModule mod_headers.c>

  • meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge,chrome=IE8"/

    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge,chrome=IE8"/>
    this piece of code is generated by edge animate, but the animations/slideshows etc still work if this tag is removed, this piece of code also will not validate with the W3C validator.
    is there any harm if I just remove this code from the website? what does it do?
    thanks for any advice offered.

    Hi there,
    You really should leave that line there...it tells IE to open the file correctly, and to load the chrome frame if it's a down-level browser (IE8 or IE7). Otherwise, by default IE will open the HTML file in compatibility mode, and your users won't see any animation/interactivity that you added in EA unless they manually modify their IE settings.
    If you're server-side handy, you could set up your server to send this header out via http instead, and then you could omit that line from the HTML file. Look here for more info on what to do:

  • HTML5 Meta Tag issue

    I have a site that is built using Project 7's Affinity Page Builder in HTML5 with a meta tag that seems to cause problems with the W3C Validator.
    The meta tag is this:
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge">
    The Website is here:
    http://www.bobbybailbonds.net/
    Client liked the Affinity theme, Al Sparber earned his pay. But what's with the meta tag? I understand this causes Internet Exploder to not freak out when dealing with this kind of responsive layout. And I also came across a description of this as a bug in the W3C group: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-admin/2013Mar/0009.html
    First question: Is there an alternative that will specifically work with Microsoft's browsers?
    Second question: Is this something that will be a known fix that is upcoming?
    Third: What happens when this is left out? What do the Microsoft browsers do?

    Oh, Nancy!
    I don't do Windows.
    (You did ask for this, you know)
    If you read the article, there is a php solution in the header of each page. I, personally, do like the universal solution—use it once, all pages on that web server are done.
    I had one client on an IIS server and pulled him off it. I uploaded a whole bunch of .PNG files and there were a few .PDFs that my client wanted linked. The server didn't know what the .PNG files were and didn't know what the .PDFs were, either, so it refused to serve them. Hosting provider was so slow with tech support that I pulled the site (and put it on Linux/Apache) before he got back to me. Apparently, you have to tell Windows that these are OK files to host.
    Sheesh!

  • 'Page Info' doesn't support HTML5 'meta charset' tag?

    Admittedly this isn't a catastrophic problem, but it seems that the Firefox 'Page Info - General' dialog does not support HTML5's '<meta charset="UTF-8">' tag - the dialog displays an empty line in my Firefox 21.0 browser.
    If the meta charset tag is changed to the pre-HTML5 version of '<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> the Page Info dialog displays the 'Content-type' information.
    Other posts I've seen suggest that Firefox's HTML5 support has been frozen except for new HTML5 standards that may be added as they are finalised.
    Does that mean that this omission is going to be left unfixed?

    Looks as though someone started working on this in 2010, but interest (?) petered out?

  • Html5 video: http range request spec??

    i am implementing a java servlet, serving html5 videos.
    implementing the range protocol for safari is very difficult.
    1) missing tool support
    safaris built in tools (resource view) shows all http requests (request and response headers) for all kind of files like images etc, but not for html5 video!! this is very bad. on firefox there is firebug which shows all requests/responses and allowed me to find the correct protocol and implement it.
    2) missing specification
    searching the web for the required http range protocol did not lead to an answer.
    the first request of the video element has following properties:
    range: bytes=0-1
    connection: close
    user-agent: Apple Mac OS X v10.6.5 CoreMedia v1.0.0.10H574
    accept: /
    accept-encoding: identity
    why close and not keep alive? i correctly serve what is requested - 1 byte (tried all means).
    but there never comes a second request...
    hope anyone has an answer.
    thanks!
    regards kht

    Thank you for replay.But I find a more horrible result.The MP4 file which I am watching is just 4MB.But totally my iPad requests about 20MB when using range request.

  • Captivate 6, HTML5, IE11 blues

    I have created a Captivate 6 project to publish to HTML5.  The quiz results are being passed to our server via a POST form that is created in the project via a button that executes the following JavaScript:
    var myPercent = cp.vm.getVariableValue('vPercent');
    var myAccuracy = cp.vm.getVariableValue('vAccuracy');
    var mySurvey1 = cp.vm.getVariableValue('Survey1');
    var mySurvey2 = cp.vm.getVariableValue('Survey2');
    var mySurvey3 = cp.vm.getVariableValue('Survey3');
    var mySurvey4 = cp.vm.getVariableValue('Survey4');
    var mySurvey5 = cp.vm.getVariableValue('Survey5');
    var mySurvey6 = cp.vm.getVariableValue('Survey6');
    document.write("<html><head><title>Results</title></head><body><p align=center><br><font size=6>Quiz Results</font></p><div align=center><table border=0 width=50% cellspacing=0 cellpadding=4><tr><td align=right width=50%><b><font size=4>Total Questions:  </font></b></td><td width=50%><font size=4>49</font></td></tr><tr><td align=right width=50%><b><font size=4>Correct Questions:  </font></b></td><td width=50%><font size=4>" + myAccuracy + "</font></td></tr><tr><td align=right width=50%><b><font size=4>Accuracy:  </font></b></td><td width=50%><font size=4>" +  myPercent + "%</font></td></tr></table><p><font size=4>The next screen will display your certificate of course completion. It's being hosted on a secure server and works just fine in the following browsers:  iOS7, Chrome 32, IE 10, Safari 5.1.7 for Windows.  However, in IE 11 all I see is a blank page (even in compatability view and adding to trusted sites).  Since it shows just fine in IE11 when viewing on the local machine, I don't know if it's a compatibility issue or if it's related to being on a secure server or just that my JavaScript is wrong and IE 11 unforgiving.
    I appreciate any suggestions you have on this--including any other methods of using POST to pass the variables.

    Thanks Jim.  That didn't resolve the problem but I did finally figure out what the problem was and came up with a work around.  I saw in the JavaScript console (F12) that there was an error SEC7111:  HTTPS security is compromised by (null).  Which apparently means that IE11 regards my JavaScript-created form as nonsecure content and instead of asking the user whether or not to display the mixed content, it just doesn't show it.  To resolve the problem, I made the form display in a pop-up window (viola!  No mixed content--only nonsecure content).  IE11 is okay with that but it's not a graceful fix since most browsers employ a pop-up blocker now.  Here is my new code:
    var jsPercent = cp.vm.getVariableValue('vPercent');
    var jsAccuracy = cp.vm.getVariableValue('vAccuracy');
    var jsSurvey1 = cp.vm.getVariableValue('Survey1');
    var jsSurvey2 = cp.vm.getVariableValue('Survey2');
    var jsSurvey3 = cp.vm.getVariableValue('Survey3');
    var jsSurvey4 = cp.vm.getVariableValue('Survey4');
    var jsSurvey5 = cp.vm.getVariableValue('Survey5');
    var jsSurvey6 = cp.vm.getVariableValue('Survey6');
    var w=window.open();
    w.document.open('text/html','replace');
    w.document.write("<html><head><title>Results</title><meta http-equiv='X-UA-Compatible' content='IE-EmulateIE9'></head><body><p align=center><br><font size=6>Quiz Results</font></p><div align=center><table border=0 width=50% cellspacing=0 cellpadding=4><tr><td align=right width=50%><b><font size=4>Total Questions:  </font></b></td><td width=50%><font size=4>49</font></td></tr><tr><td align=right width=50%><b><font size=4>Correct Questions:  </font></b></td><td width=50%><font size=4>" + jsAccuracy + "</font></td></tr><tr><td align=right width=50%><b><font size=4>Accuracy:  </font></b></td><td width=50%><font size=4>" +  jsPercent + "%</font></td></tr></table><p><font size=4>The next screen will display your certificate of course completion.   • Code coloring error in HTML5 templates

    Is it just me?
    In both HTML5 templates (two or three column), that one can select after select 'New' from the 'File' menu the code is all grayed out after the browser conditional:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML>

    Code coloring is fine up to my indicator ##HERE## above, after that all grayed out till next end HTML commnet '-->'.
    I can fix it, lamely, with the comment you see above, "<!-- This HTML...-->"
    If the line <script ...>...</script> is removed from in between the conditional tags everything is fine.

  • HTML5 DOCTYPE in custom WPC web form

    Hello,
    we are implementing a custom WPC web form along following SAP documentation:
    http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-22253
    The new web form incorporates JS-Scripts from an open source project (Galleria.io).
    However, this JS-Application requires a HTML5 DOCTYPE, which needs to bedefined in the root of an HTML document. At runtime of the web form the HTML5 DOCTYPE is missing and the JS-Application is not properly running.
    I found following SAP note "1713259 - PRT support for HTML5 doctype" which focuses on this topic. It mentions two possible options:
    - Enable HTML5 DOCTYPE for entire portal environment,
    - ... or enable HTML5 DOCTYPE only for custom portal applications.
    However we only want to enable HTML5 DOCTYPE for the WPC component runtime.
    Is there any option to enable this via configuration in WPC... or any other ideas?
    Best regards
    Mario

    Hi Mario!
    You could personalize your form adding this at the begining of your XLST WPC:
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge"> <!-- for example -->
    Also, you could set in your base iview portal template the document browser mode:
    Browser Document Mode – How to set the IE Compatibility View from server side.
    This forces use a determinated browser in portal.
    Hope this helps,
    Kind regards!

    Short answer:  You're using an HTML5 doc type which has a different set of specs for valid meta tags and other HTML syntax.
    Introduction to HTML
    Where you have this:

    Language must be expressed in the <html> tag like this:

  • How to make an html5 video play from Internet Explorer 9?

    Hello,
    I have converted a swf eLearning video to html5 thanks to the cp converter. I can have the html output file played from Chrome but not from Internet Explorer 9. Could someone advise me, do I need some code to make it work? Thank you in advance for your help.
    Emilie

    One of the quick and easy fixes for your problem is to go into your source code and in the <head> change the following:
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="chrome=1,IE=9" />
    <meta name="viewport" content="user-scalable=yes, width=360" />
    <title>IntroVideo</title>
    Where it says ,IE=9"/> simply change the 9 to an 8....
    this tells IE9 to act like IE8 and makes all the video content way more accessable!
    hope this helps!
    Cheers!
