Hyperion Planning Performance Slow to only 1 User ID

Hi,
I'm having problem when I login to the HyperionPlanning Web application, I'm able to login without an error but after login the page does not load. It will hang half way forever.
I tried to login with the ADMIN id and I'm able to login and the page successfully loaded. I also got no problem login to Workspace using my id.
May I know what is the potential issue? Where should I start the troubleshooting?

The startup may be slow because planning tries to open the last used form:
- (1) it may use a long running query in essbase
- (2) it may use a large number of cells and therefore will use a lot of java resources
Because there may have been multiple logons for this users, all the ressources may still be busy completing the previous login attemps.
Please perform the following steps to verify that your planning service is not 100% busy:
- ask IT to check the CPU usage of your planning service
- if it's using 100% of a single core all the time, let IT stop and restart the service
Please perform the following steps (if essbase is causing this):
- Logon to planning using the userid that will have slow response
- Open EAS and verify if any sessions are running for a long time
- Carefully terminte the long running session (Planning will no show an error message)
- Note down the name of the for that is causing this issue
- In Planning open another dataform
- Exit planning
Please revisit the design of that dataform.

Cut and paste operation in Hyperion Planning is slower than normal web page

We understand the web form under Hyperion Planning has many useful functions built-in but we also encountered some user complains that the operation inside the web form is relatively slower than normal web page. When user cut and paste 20 to 50 cells content, they need to wait 1 to 5 seconds on the "copy" function.
Any workaround can be implemented to improved the user experience? We have asked Oracle whether we can disable the SQL statement behind but no firm reply yet.

The spec of client machines sometimes can have performance impact.
One route is to use smart view to enter data into forms, as it is excel based it should be much quicker to cut/copy and paste.

Yes SmartView should improve the operational speed. However as not all of our users are using SmartView we are looking for some ways to improve the web form speed.

Logging into Hyperion Planning is taking several minutes for users

Hello All,
I'm hoping someone can help with an urgent issue. A problem has popped up the day after everyone returned from holiday break. All users that are listed in MSAD in Shared Services are taking several minutes to log into Hyperion Planning. The only users that are not having problems are admin and a testuser account. Both of these accounts are from the Native Directory.
When I go into Shared Services and do a search in the MSAD, it is taking several minutes for the list of users or groups to come up. Everything is working normally in Planning when I'm using the admin account, except for when I'm trying to assign access to a dimension. That is not working, but I can modify an existing access to a dimension.
Our IT department has restarted all Hyperion services and made sure that the service account (active directory) is not locked. Everything on their end looks like its running correctly, as far as they can tell. I've refreshed the database and security filters, but that has not corrected anything and I've reregistered the application with shared services.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for the response. I'm not sure if we do have multiple MSAD servers, so I've forwarded the question on to my IT department and I'm waiting for their response.
During my call with Oracle support, they suggested turning off the MSAD group configuration and restarting Hyperion to see if that would help. The only area that it seemed to help is in searching for users in MSAD. That works a lot faster now, but it didn't fix the problem with the users logging into Hyperion. I've sent Oracle the shared services logs for Admin, Hub and Security as they requested and I'm waiting for their response.

Strange Issue: Hyperion Planning forms becomes read-only and data is wiped out: 11.1.2.2

Let me start by saying that I am not new to Hyperion Planning. We are experience a weird issue in our System Test. We notice that some (NOT ALL) of our webforms turn into readonly webforms; all the cells on the form at greyed out. This is inspite of the fact that the read-only checkbox is unchecked on the form as well as security is fine on all dimensions ; basically all the cells on the form are valid combinations.
Still the form become readonly and all the data in that form is wiped-out. this happened only for two web forms so far. We are running bunch of calcs(none of the calcs have cleardata command). we are not sure why is this happening. this might be some bug in the product... not sure. has anyone seen this behaviour before ?

ODI metadata load impacts Hyperion Planning performance

I am performing a dimension load of approximately 14,000 members, with a few attributes, from an Oracle view.
The data is staged instantaneously. But it takes a long time (30mins plus) to load to Planning. During this time, Planning can become unresponsive. We are also having occasional Planning crashes, which may or may not be related.
Can anyone tell me if this is normal from a performance perspective, and if there is anything we can look at to improve it.

What you can do is remove "Enabled for Process Management" for scenarios/versions that don't use workflow.
If you are using workflow then you can experience problems if you are loading to the entity dimension while a workflow is active.
You can also increase the maximum jvm memory being used by the planning web application.

Hello Folks,
Hope all is well. We migrated from planning 3.5 to 9.3. We had extrenal authentication ( NTLM) in 3.5 . Now in 9.3 we have AD (Active Directory). Users were migrated from NTLM to AD. We do see them in AD domains.
The problem now is that we cant login using 3.5 users in 9.3 ( even though visible in AD). We are using shared services . Any pointers on this would be immensely helpful.
Please let me know if I missed on something.

Appreciate your prompt feedback.I ran the PropFileMig utility to transfer the information from the HspJsHome.properties file that has planning apps. info to the new Planning 9.3 system database.
I would also appreciate if you could recommend any better methods than one chosen by me above.

Planning becomes slow

All,
We have a problem with Hyperion Planning performance. It works fine for about a day and half and then becomes very slow. I know that by stopping and starting all services, it will come back to its normal speed, but we prefer not to do this because it kicks all users off of all of our Hyperion Services. Any thoughts on what would cause a slow up after a day and a half?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We had such problem in our project
at first we optimized Essbase
1.restructured cube
2.increased value of memory(index cash and buffer)
3.we made such procedure(unloaded all data from cude into txt,cleaned cube,set period dimension on the fist,set quoters as DCALC,set type of compression as RLE,refresh datdabase, load data)- in our case it helped dicrease size of cube
at second we chaned the order of dimensions and tought about sparce and dence dimensios in planning
at third we optimized our calc scripts

How to lock data independently for several groups in Hyperion Planning?

I 'm developing a forecast application using Hyperion Planning 9.3.1 where the users shall be able to enter their monthly forecast numbers. We have two groups of users. Each group may have up to two forecast updates per month. The groups are independent – say, Group A may have one update for August and they want the numbers to be there by August 10th, while the Group B may have two updates for the same month with the first update to be completed by July 20th and second – by August 5th. Nobody knows in advance how many updates they are going to have for the month and when they are going to have them. Nothing should prohibit the users from updating their forecast numbers for the future months – say, they may enter their September forecast in July.
Managers of both groups want to make sure that users don't change forecast numbers after the month close. If they plan to have two updates per month – they want data from the 1st update to be locked (become read-only) before they have 2nd update, and data from 2nd update locked after the month close; if they plan to have only one update per month – they want it locked after the month close.
Any suggestions how I may structure the dimensions of this application to make sure that if I lock first August update for Group B on, say, August 3rd, the other group still can have it open until August 10th?

What, I am NOT able to figure out How to LINK Hyperion Planning Outline to Oracle EBS HR Tables. cause in Hyperion Outline i m able to view Dimensions Not particular Column to map with EBS HR Table (column).
Eample:
In EBS HR we have Employee Number in Per_all_people_f but in Hyperion Planning Dimension is ONLY Employee.

Hyperion Planning 9.3.1 "Configure Data Sources" freezes at Essbase conf

I am setting up a demo environment of Hyperion Planning for one of our customers (my first time installing this application). The platform is Windows Vista Business 32-bit. RDBMS is Oracle 10g on another machine. I've successfully installed Hyperion 9.3.1 Shared Services, Essbase, Essbase Admin Services and Planning application.
I've successfully configured all the applications (with the Configuration Utility) besides Hyperion Planning. I can access Workspace, User Management Console, Essbase Administration Services (and connect to my localhost Essbase server from there), etc - thus I believe that the installations and configuration of these modules is successful.
When I try to finish my Hyperion Planning configuration with the utility, the last step is to "Configure Data Sources" (previous configuration steps including "Product Instance Registration" were successful).
I start the configuration utility, select the properties, enter the Oracle db connection properties (no error there), then enter the Essbase connection properties (the same which enable me to add this server in the Essbase Administration Services, view and start applications, etc) and the installer just freezes.. hangs indefinitely..
Server: localhost
uid and password are the ones I provided during essbase installation/configuration
I've tried this configuration step multiple times, I've restarted the machine. The maximum time I've waited is ~30min.
Questions:
# Is it normal for the Essbase configuration page to freeze after clicking "Next" for 30min (maybe I'm just impatient, I'm new to Hyperion)
# What could be wrong?
# How could I see the error message - is there an error log somewhere?

Migrating EPMA Planning application: Failed to sync with user provisioning

We are migrating applications from Production to Dev. We have one EPMA Planning and one Essbase application in both environments.
We have migrated artifacts into File system in PROD(Shared services, EPMA, Planning, Essbase and Reporting). We have copied and pasted in import_export folder in DEV.
Then we are trying to migrate artifacts into applications from File system in DEV. First we did EPMA artifacts successfully in migration status report then we have deployed application into planning without any errors.(msg showing as in sync deployment). After that we did shared services, it is failed

I have restored database and migrated artifacts using LCM. any one method is enough to do Planning application migration (from Oracle Support)

I defined only one RKM for Hyperion Planning. There is a IKM SQL to Hyperion Planning. There are two technologies defined: one for Generic File and another to Hyperion Planning. These steps are defined on the sample manual of ODI - Hyperion Planning.
I created the interface without any warning or errors. But when I tried execute this rule, I have the following error return on the Operator module:

Hyperion Planning Urgent

Hi,
We have a planning application which was working fine since yesterday. When I was working in shared services on user rights, i was able to provision few new users.
After completing this process I tried to login into the Hyperion Planning Application but i got an error "Failed to sync with user provisioning. Check Planning log for details" However I am able to login with "admin" in planning but could not see planning forms because of non-availability of outline and variables in essbase.
I went into essbase to further investigate and noticed that there was no outline in essbase for the planning applocation.
I also tried to push the outlin from planning but it says that " verify that hyperion essbase is running and check your network connections"
I also restarted all the services but with no success.
Please help as this is urgent and we are into UAT phase and moving to production.

We are not using Maxl for any purpose in here and we are not sure how to use it as well....one more thing which is quite visible in my logs is

Planning error : hyperion.planning.DuplicateUserException

I am unable to log into planning app after we refreshed our test sqlserver with prod data. I get the followeing error
hyperion.planning.DuplicateUserException: Another user with the name hypadmin already exists.
com.hyperion.planning.HspRuntimeException: Failed to sync with user provisioning.
any ideas ?
I have tried updating the sid value in HSP_USERS table with the old values -- no luck.
Please help.

Sounds like you have not done the migration correctly.
I take it hypadmin is the application owner and a native user.
If so you should store the correct native sid on your test environment.
Have a look at a working planning app on your test environment, go into the relational tables
look at table HSP_USERS and store the sid for id 50001
Update the other planning app in your test environment with the correct stored sid in the same table.
Restart planning.
Also run the updateusers utility in the planning bin/utiliites directory.
Its much easier if you create planning applications with the default admin account as the sid stays the same across environments.

Performance issue - Hyperion Planning Web

Hi,
We are using Hyperion Planning 3.5 and Essbase 6.5.
Our Application & Database servers are located in Dublin,USA.We access the application through web.All users access the application from the same Dublin location have no issue with the Application performance.But user's who access the application from outsideDublin(eg - Greensboro) are finding major issues with the application performance.Specifically with webforms and while running businessrules.And the issue occurs only during the peak of budget season when most of the users access application.
Client state that,
"The system is much slower out in the field than here in Dublin.It literally takes 15 – 20 minutes just to make a change and then after all that, it takes an hour to see the results only to find that they had to re-enter something. It’s really a very tedious process"
Please advise.

I am not really sure what I can suggest as you on such an early version, you could have a look at :- http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_hp_admin/ch13s16.html
The information relates to version 9.3, it may be applicable to your version but I can't confirm that.
You could also look into increasing the java heap size for the planning web application, though I can't remember the exact process on your version, if planning is not run as a service the settings are probably in one of the start up scripts for planning.

Error WHile creating a User in Hyperion Planning

HI,
Please someone guide since im facing this problem for a longtime.
I created a user in Planning webpage and refreshed the security filters.
When i tried to login using planning webinterface, it showed an error "User priscila_monsanto does not exist in the domain or the password is incorrect"
And i could able to find an exception in the file"Hyperion Planning-err.log" present in Jrun path of the planning server.
And when i logged into the admin console for the plannng cube, i found user anme in the security-->users field and there is no filters assigned to the user.
Please help me.

This is definitely a Custom Adapter because OOTB Adapter name is adpADCSADDUSERTOGROUP and NOT adpADDUSERTOADGROUP
So, it is your custom code and in the code you are passing incorrect value of the Active Directory Child process form...
The correct name is UD_ADUSRC and the Group Name column name is UD_ADUSRC_GROUPNAME.
While you are passing UD_AD_CHILD as the child process form and UD_AD_CHILD_GRP_NAME as Group Name column name..
Use OOTB Adapter... Correct these discrepancies... Your addition of group will work
And since you are creating custom adapter, you need to be more careful and remain consistent throughout..
Then if you want to use UD_AD_CHILD_GRP_NAME, use it everywhere consistently... Pass only this value in the adapter...
And even in lookups, if any... Search everywhere... Keep things consistent... They will work... Because good news is that you are able to create user in AD via Java Code...
