Hyperion Planning Upgrade

Hi
we are planning to upgrade our environment(Planning,FR,HSS,EAS etc..) from 9.3.1 to 9.3.3.
what is the brief procedure to upgrade to 9.3.3
Is it patch installation on the existing environment? or we have to install the software on new servers and migrate the application?
If its a patch installation, do we have to make any mojor changes to the application.
please suggest..

You don't have to install on different servers, there is a readme for each product which tells you how to upgrade/deploy to the 9.3.3 release.

Make sure you read everything very carefully and be totally sure you understand before upgrading, if it is not clear then call in a consultant to help with the upgrade.

So far I have done the following 3 steps:
1. I have successfully installed and configured Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.2 in a new Server. (Windows Server 2008 R2).
2. I have created a blank classic Planning Application in 11.1.2.2.
3. I have copied the relational database from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2
Could you please let me know the next steps to perform the upgrade?
Should I use the Migrate Button in the Hyperion Planning Webpage or use the option in the EPM System Configurator "Upgrade existing database to the current release from 11.1.1.3". Please advise.
Note : A native User is the owner of the Planning Application in 11.1.1.3 and hence I made the same in 11.1.2.2 also.
Also, please let me know if I need to migrate the shared services security and convert the HBRs to Calc Manger rules first before upgrading the Planning Application.

Yes, I have performed a clean install and then going for upgrading the existing Planning Application.
The Application owner in both the source and target Applications is a native user named hypadmin (not the default admin user). Do you want me to change the owner to default admin user, or the user hypadmin is ok to go with?
Please advise.
Also, is there any specific order I need to follow for migrating the below components?
1. Shared Services Security
2. HBRs to Calc Manger Rules

Hyperion Planning upgrade issue : Upgrade planning 9.3.1 to 11.1.1.3

Hi,
I am getting the below given erro while upgrading hyperion planning from 9.3.1 to 11.1.1.3
I have done the following steps in sequence to achive the upgrade:
1. Created a planning application "plantest" on 9.3.1 , created hireachy and "create Database" from planning to make the essbase outile.
2. took the backup of planning db repository from 9.3.1 using expdp in a dumpfile.
3. migrated the essbase from 9.3.1 to 11.1.1.3
4. logged on to 11.1.1.3 AppWizard to create the similar planning application with the same name "plantest".
5. made a note of HSP_USER 50001 sid on 11.1.1.3
6. stopped the planning on 11.1.1.3
7. imported the 9.3.1 dump on 11.1.1.3 using the following command :impdp system/password DIRECTORY=TEST_DIR DUMPFILE=PLANNING_FINAL.DMP TABLE_EXISTS_ACTION=REPLACE
8. started the planning on 11.1.1.3
9.When I am trying to login to the planning application on 11.1.1.3 - I am getting the following error:
- Application plantest is invalid.
I tried loging agian on the same page, this time it gave me a tab "Migrate" instead of usual "logon" and when I tried loging in, it gave the below error:
- An error occurred while processing this page. Check the log for details
Please let me know if i am doing anything wrong? - which log should I go and check?

Yes, on clicking the migrate button i get the error.
I am now looking into "HyS9Planning-sysout.log" and it has the following major errors:

Hyperion Planning Upgrade License fee

Hi,
If we upgrade Planning 3.3.1 to 9.3.1, do we have to pay an additional license fee apart from the support fee?

Hyperion Planning Workspace - Export option missing in IE 8

Hello,
I am using v9.2 of Hyperion Planning. I noticed that the option to export Financial Studio Reports in Workspace does not appear in Internet Explorer 8 while in 6/7 it did. Is there any fix for this problem or any workaround?

I doubt IE8 is supported on 9.2, I know there are patches for 9.3 though I have not heard about any for 9.2, suppose Oracle want to force an upgrade.

Notification message box of Hyperion Planning when user login

Can we have a notification message box popup when user login Hyperion Planning or Workspace application? We would like to communicate to the end users by the system instead of just email because some end users may not check the email so frequently. It is the best to notify end users about any latest changes e.g. budget rate, etc when they login the system to check data or print reports.
We noticed that there is a broadcast message feature but only limit to those users already online. And the message will not shown when there are some users login later. We would like to have some notice board like message instead of instant messaging.
The online help of "broadcast message" feature:
"Use broadcast messaging to communicate a text message to all Planning users currently logged on to an application. For example, you can send messages about system availability or periodic maintenance. You should also send broadcast messages to request that users log out before upgrading or migrating applications.
You can send broadcast messages using the Web client or a command line utility. If you send them using the Web, they are sent to users of your current application. If you send them using the command line, you can specify any application, without being logged on to it. You can also schedule messages using standard operating system mechanisms. "

I have tried the above step and it only works when i am in the advanced mode. but when i change to basic mode i can see the forms and still can access without any disturbance. for your help i am pasting the planningcentral.jsp so that you could suggest me something other.

Planning upgrade from system 9.2 to System 11

Hi,
Can any one pls. let me know the upgradation process from Hyperion Planning version 9.2 to version 11 ? Can we directly migrate from version 9.2 to 11 ?

Hi,
I would not go down trying to directly upgrade from 9.2. to V11.
I would back up all your planning objects, install configure V11 and perform a standard planning migration, it will upgrade the planning relational database.

How does the Approvals process work in Oracle Hyperion Planning v 11.1.2

Hi,
I have recently upgraded to Oracle Hyperion Planning v 11.1.2 and the way that the application handles budget / Forecast approvals appears to have changed.
Is anyone able to direct me to a user manual or provide me with some guidance on how to set up the approvals process in the upgrade Oracle Hyperion Planning v 11.1.2.
Currently I have the approvals hierarchy set to allow all approvals and have the approvals template set to bottom up, I have not put any values on the hierarchy and sub hierarchy tab as I want to drive approvals by entity only. I have set the correct Scenario and assigned the owners/approvers however when I start the approvals process the current owner is let sitting at no owner? Should this not pull though the owner set up under assign owners.
When I log in as the owner of the planning unit I do get the option to promote the unit as set out in the assign owner hierarchy however when I attempt to do this I get the following error:
Failed: Unauthorized New Owner
I am relatively new to planning so any help you can provide me with would be much appreciated.

Clone Hyperion planning production to create development instance

Hi ,
We recently upgraded to 11.1.1.1 and currently we do not have a test instance. We would like to create a test instance. For creating an instance of oracle bs application, we clone the app and create a new instance. However when we try to do the same with planning app, our dev instance is still pointing to the prod instance. How do we get the dev instance to point to dev database. Our configuration is essbase on linux and all other applications are windows based.
Any pointers are greatly appreciated.

I am not totally clear what you have done, are you saying you have installed v11 on test machines and copied over the schemas?
If you have just cloned the planning system database then all the datasources will be pointing to the original location and will need reconfiguring, that is if it will let you reconfigure the datasources, I am not sure how you have configured it all.
The best option with planning is to create a blank application on the target machine and then migrate the schema.
If you want to take that option then migrations have ben covered many times on here, one example is here :- Migration of Hyperion Planning Application

Com.hyperion.planning.olap.EssbaseException (1060122) Error during refresh

We recently upgraded our Hyperion environment from 9.3.1 to 9.3.3 and we are getting this error
com.hyperion.planning.olap.EssbaseException (1060122) when trying to refresh a database. What does this error mean? Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated.

1060122 - Name [%s] too long for Non-Unicode mode server

Compatibility of Hyperion Planning 9.2 with latest Apache 2.2.17

Hi all...
I am using Hyperion planning 9.2 version.
the error which i am getting is "Apache off-by-one buffer overflow problem."
therefore i need to upgrade the Appache to the latest version available.
So i want to know which is the latest version of Apache that is compatable with Hyperion 9.2 (i have complete Hyperion suit installed)

Steps to migrate Hyperion Planning application from 9.2.0 to new 9.3.1 env

We currently have 9.2.0 Hyperion planning installed in a windows env. We are planning to setup a new Hyperion planning env on a totally new hardware upgraded env. Would be appreciate if some can outline steps invloved to migrate Hyperion Planning apps, forms, BR ect from 9.2.0 to the newly setip 9.3.1 env. Is there any documentation, URL's to do the above. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any issue to look out for, setbacks details would be helpful.

Hi,
One way of doing it would be :-
Create a new database for your planning application 9.3.1
Create a datasource to the database
Create a fresh planning application on version 9.3.1 make sure the admin is the same name as your old 9.2 planning app
Go into the database tables for the planning app and look at table HSP_USERS, store the SID value against user 50001
Go into the database planning system tables and HSPSYS_APPLICATION, clear out the version field for the application you have created
Stop Planning
Restore the 9.2 planning application database over the one created in the first step
Go into the HSP_USERS table and update the SID for user id 50001
Start planning
Go to planning web and you should see your application when you try and log in it should take you to a migrate screen.
If you are requiring to migrate users as well, you will have to make sure you create them in Shared Services and then use the updateusers utility in the planning bin directory.
Or you could try using the copy app utility though I don't believe it is the best utility about and not sure how it handles between different versions(http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_hp_admin/ch09s01.html)

Add Access button issue in Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.3

Add Access button in Assign Access window for dimensions in Planning is not working fine. After clicking Add Access button, window pops up after 15 min and groups are not being reflected there in groups tab. This didn't resolve with a restart etc.
If someone have any clue on this, Please help me.
Appreciate any response on this.

Are you planning servers load balanced?
Apply the patch upgrade and move to 11.1.1.3.02 , check and see if that resolves the issue .

Error WHile creating a User in Hyperion Planning

HI,
Please someone guide since im facing this problem for a longtime.
I created a user in Planning webpage and refreshed the security filters.
When i tried to login using planning webinterface, it showed an error "User priscila_monsanto does not exist in the domain or the password is incorrect"
And i could able to find an exception in the file"Hyperion Planning-err.log" present in Jrun path of the planning server.
And when i logged into the admin console for the plannng cube, i found user anme in the security-->users field and there is no filters assigned to the user.
Please help me.

This is definitely a Custom Adapter because OOTB Adapter name is adpADCSADDUSERTOGROUP and NOT adpADDUSERTOADGROUP
So, it is your custom code and in the code you are passing incorrect value of the Active Directory Child process form...
The correct name is UD_ADUSRC and the Group Name column name is UD_ADUSRC_GROUPNAME.
While you are passing UD_AD_CHILD as the child process form and UD_AD_CHILD_GRP_NAME as Group Name column name..
Use OOTB Adapter... Correct these discrepancies... Your addition of group will work
And since you are creating custom adapter, you need to be more careful and remain consistent throughout..
Then if you want to use UD_AD_CHILD_GRP_NAME, use it everywhere consistently... Pass only this value in the adapter...
And even in lookups, if any... Search everywhere... Keep things consistent... They will work... Because good news is that you are able to create user in AD via Java Code...

Not able to see data in Hyperion Planning data forms.

Here there are 2 things, once your epma heirarchy is ready did you deploy it against your planning App ? and incase if you haven't deployed your planning application, then old outline would be existing in Essbase and if you load data for old outline it will still take into but when you deploy the database gets restructured and older data gets restructured/removed.
Before going onto that level first check if your load data to essbase completed successfully. and did you load data for the combinations on dataform ? ? Try manually inputting a number through data form and submit and do a refresh to see if value comes up. ? Check your data form settings , if you have enables suppress missing rows/blocks.
