Hyperlink Formatting Follies...

Howdy iWebbers,
My text-based hyperlinks aren't working correctly. Here are some of the perplexing behaviors...
• The primary nav links are all set to appear in color, with one exception. The link designating the page you are on appears in white. None of the links are appearing in that white, despite having changed the settings to make them do so. (see nav links: www.johnrunk.com)
• Other text links are set to appear in light, then turn dark on rollover. They don't. (see number links: http://www.johnrunk.com/johnrunk.com/Sample_A-1.html)
• A third group of links is also set to appear in light, then turn dark on rollover. They appear dark even with being rolled over. (see blue word links on far left column: http://www.johnrunk.com/johnrunk.com/411tech.html)
I've checked all the format settings. Everything looks correct.
What am I missing? Thanks much for any advice or suggestions.
John

I am all of a sudden having similar issues.
the hyperlink color is fine in iWeb 09 3.0.1. when I publish to a local folder and view, the color is different.... this didn't happen until yesterday. All was fine formatting text based hyperlinks in modern templates, blogs, etc. I am proficient in creating pages with hyperlinks with different colors. see www.hoskinsongroup.com go to contact us. You'll see that those are blue with a roll over of green. Then go to the spec & features section, the first listing of the blog and you'll see that they are red. They are coded blue, but when published, they turned out red.
What is going on????
Again, published to local folder and the same issue occurs.
Operating system is up to date, 10.5.8.
I am stumped.
thanks for any input.

  • Hyperlink format changed for all not only new links on page

    Hi,
The button "Use for new links on page" (in German "Für neue Links auf Seite verwenden") on the inspector dialog (hyperlink -> Format) doesn't work. It changes the format of all existing links on the page! Can this be fixed please!
    Thank you
    Thomas

That seems to be the way that button works, right or wrong. However, send a bug report to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.

  • Hyperlink formatting

Not sure if this is possible in HTML help project...
I am using RHX5.0.1 and have various types hyperlinks used in
my projects (e.g., standard hyperlinks in the content as well as
hyperlinks for "Back to Previous" , links to "Examples" and
"Related Topics"). Each of these types of hyperlinks has a specific
format that I need to apply (standard uses same as what would be in
the CSS formatting, but the others are specialized with smaller
    fonts and no underlines).
I have defined formatting for the standard hyperlink styles
(active, hovered, unvisited, et al) but I need to override that
formatting for things like "Back to Previous" (from a bookmark
area). For those hyperlinks that I want to modify, I select the
text and reformat using Format=>Font and it looks fine on the
WYSIWYG. When I compile the project into HTML help it ignores my
customized formatting and takes on the formatting defined for the
Hyperlink styles in the CSS file associated with the topic. Also,
there are several different hyperlink formatting I want to use on
each topic, so a custom CSS to handle this will not work.
This method of manually reformatting hyperlinks has worked
fine when the project outputs to WebHelp but for some reason
doesn't work when compiling into an HTML help file.
Are there any formatting tricks that someone can share to
override the formatting defined for the Hyperlinks in the CSS style
    sheet?
As always, thanks for any assistance.

As you've no doubt realized by now, HTML has its own default
styles for major elements like hyperlinks, lists, etc. However, you
can create any number of classes to address this issue (see this
    w3 web site for
    plenty of good info).
The .css link sample below would be called in your topic as:
    <a class=MyLink href="MyTargetTopic.htm">.
Note that although you can combine two or more
pseudo-classes, separated with commas, they must appear in the
    "LoVeHAte" order:
    Link,
    Visited,
    Hover,
Active. (I don't bother with Active, as seen in my example,
but some folks do.) You'll notice in the default.css, which is
provided for every project, that there are classes used for
A.expandspot (expanding text) and A.dropspot (dropdown text).
This method will allow you to use only one .css file for all
your topics, as you call only the class you need at each hyperlink.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • Iweb Hyperlink Format not working!

    Hello,
I am using version 3.0.3 of iWeb. I think this must be the latest version.
No matter what I do, I cannot get the FORMAT tab to do anything within the hyperlinks section of the inspector.
Let's I want to change the color of how a button behaves (rollover, click etc), I click on that element (text, box, anything), I select Inspector, I go to hyperlink tab, and the FORMAT subtab is not working.
Has anyone else had this issue?
What do i need to do??
    I'm totally frustrated.
    Thanks

    Hello Old Toad,
Thanks for your response, but believe me, i've tried EVERYTHING.
I've selected Text, I've highlighted the text, I've gone to the INSPECTOR window, selected the hyperlink tab, and the FORMAT TAB always remains INACTIVE: i.e. all the buttons are dark grey and do nothing when I press them.
I paid for this software upgrade also (iLife 11).
I really like iWeb actually, it produces what I want, except this formatting of URLs (and perhaps sub-menus).
Im getting really desperate to find why my FORMAT of hyperlinks is not working.
    Thanks

  • Published iWeb site the hyperlinks formatting

When I view my published iWeb site the hyperlinks do not all have the same formatting as they did in iWeb. How can I resolve this?

Hello, I am using iWeb 3.0.4 (601). I publish the website to my local machine (from iWeb) so I can send it off to someone more technical to publish to the internet and manage all of the 'optimisation' etc. This is where I am seeing it is not as it looks within iWeb. Can I 'send' it to you somehow? Thanks for your response.

  • IWEB publishing errors: hyperlinks, formatting, images

After publishing, my text boxes with hyperlinks and or bold / italics the fonts / boxes are completely messed up. iWEB seems to be using the old code rather than writing new code, and randomly making changes or inserting element from different pages. I believe this is somehow related to iWEB's writing of the style blocs. Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks,

What version of iWeb are you using and where are you hosting your site?  If you publish you site to a folder on your hard drive and open it locally with your browser does the site appear as it should?

  • Can't format Hyperlink Colors

    Hey,
For some reason, the Format tab for my hyperlinks are grayed out and won't let me select a rollover color. I am selecting the text, selecting enable as hyperlink, deselecting Make hyperlinks active so I can edit the text, but when I go to the format tab to change the rollover colors, the options are grayed out.
What could I be missing? This seems very straight forward.
    Thanks,
    Wes

It also depends on what hyperlinks you are trying to format as to whether this will work in the first place though? Are you trying to format nav bar links? If so, this won't work, because you can't do it, so it will be grayed out. You can't format the nav bar templates. If you want to do this, go to Inspector and hide it and make your own that you can use hyperlink format.

  • Losing formatting in Dreamweaver CS4 site

    Hello all! So frustrated!
I have built the rough design of a site in Dreamweaver CS4 using tables to do a lot of the formatting for a lot of information. For some reason, all of a sudden I have lost all table formatting when the site is viewed in any browser. In addition, I have lost some of my spry menu formatting (background color of menu bar) and hyperlink formatting when viewed online even though absolutely nothing looks wrong to me on the design view. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
Two examples...they are different as we are still deciding on colors:
    http://www.aldopineschiconsulting.com/index.html
    http://www.aldopineschiconsulting.com/organizations.html

All browsers will view html and css errors differently. DW Design View isn't a browser though and typically shows you something other than what will be viewed in the real browsers. You can't rely on it for giving you anything but an approximation of what your site could look like.
Always use Preview In Browser to see your actual page in the various browsers. IE, Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera are the minimums I test for on Desktops. I test iOS Safari and Android for mobile by putting everything on a local test server and accessing it via WiFi with a couple of phones (since every emulator I've seen so far has been just as bad as DW's Design View).
HTML and CSS errors are a major cause of display problems/differences between the various browsers/versions/platforms. You should become very familiar with the validators. In addition to the one already given, here is the CSS validator: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/

  • Change Formatting of Footnote Indicator when Exporting EPUB, how? CS6

    Hi,
Well, it's all quite impressive so far. CS6 ePub capabilities are miles
ahead of CS4, my last version, that's for sure.
One thing I'm stuck on, though, is how to change the formatting of
footnote indicators when exporting an ePub from InDesign.
No matter what I do, when the ePub is viewed in ADE, the footnote
indicator in the text comes out in blue, raised, and underlined. Also,
it screws up the leading of the paragraph line it's on -- because the
digit is raised, there line spacing above that line becomes bigger.
I've tried applying a charater style in InDesign to footnote indicators,
and I've played around with the settings in Document Footnote Option,
but no joy so far. It's always raised, blue, and underlined.
Anyone know how contorl the footnote indicator formatting in an exported
ePub without opening up the ePub in an external editor?
    Thanks,
    Ariel

Sigil is good to start with. As you grow more confident in editing e-pubs, you might want to ditch it though (it has its own personal set of annoying features).
Superscripts are prone to mess up paragraph spacing in HTML, and with everything said and done, that's just what an e-pub is. Nothing you can do inside InDesign, it takes raw CSS editing to "fix" it (meaning, to make it less conspicuous than the downright stupid default handling!).
But the blue-and-underlining bit is nothing you can fix -- for a real web page you can, but iBooks, for instance, INSISTS on having hyperlinks formatted that way, whether you like it or not.

  • Print Without Hyperlink Character Styles

    Hi,
I have applied a character style to URLs in my document that look like links so that when I export to pdf, people can click the obvious URL link.  However, the document will also be printed and I do not want the text to have this character style applied to it (or be a hyperlink).  I thought when I exported to PDF and unchecked 'Include Hyperlinks', no hyperlink formatting would be present in the pdf, including character styles applied to hyperlinks, but I cannot seem to print without the character style being applied.
Is there a way to choose in the print dialog whether I want the character style applied to the text?  Or what is the easiest way to toggle between showing hyperlinks and not showing hyperlinks (including character styles) as I need to switch between print versions and electronic versions of my document?
    Thanks so much!

Or maybe easier would be to define a second style with attributes, then use find/change to change from one to the other. Easy to go back and forth that way.

  • Query about Email Address Format & PDF Output

I'm using XML Publisher and an RTF word template linked to an Oracle XML file to generate PDF Purchase Orders.
Part of the PDF output displays an email address.
If the email address is in this format:
    [email protected]
then when the PDF output is generated, the address is outputted into a clickable hyperlink which sends an email to:
    [email protected]
However, if the email address is set to:
    [email protected]
then the resulting email hyperlink will only be sent to:
[email protected] (i.e. all to the right of the dot)...
Just wondered if there is any way to stop this from happening?
    Thank you

Sorry - I know months have passed since I first raised this query.
Just double checking again, to see if anyone is aware of a workaround for this email issue? Is there anything I can do in the XSL in the background to force a particular email hyperlink format?
    Thank you

  • Font and Color Changes on Hyperlinks

I am going mad on iWeb trying to format hyperlinks. No matter how I format the text, the moment you enable it as a hyperlink it defaults to whatever Apple set it at. The inspector shows all the right parameters but the link is unchanged.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Unfortunately, the answer is there is no way within iWeb to change the hyperlink format. Perhaps Apple will add this feature in a future release.

  • So What Now with Help Formats ???

Well... the launch of Vista and the death of Winhelp has
really shafted us... and I'm sure a lot of others too. Current
situation as I understand it is :
    1) Winhelp is dead.
    2) HTML Help is supported but is functionally inferior in the
    following ways :
    - Window position cannot be specified as a percentage of the
screen (pixels only) which is awkward for secondary windows as we
need to support everything from 1024x768 to 1920x1280.
    - Context sensitive help support is dreadful compared to
winhelp - no formatted text, bullets, graphics, hyperlinks, etc...
    - Microsoft refuse to allow CHM files to be launched over a
network so a server install is out (without a naughty registry
    hack).
    3) Webhelp is supported but rumoured to be on the way out in
terms of Robohelp support. Is this true ? Its also extremely clunky
to ship with software due to number of files and, AFAICS, offers no
context sensitive help functionality. I guess we could get round
the former by using .MHT files but reasonable support for context
    sensitive help is a must.
    4) The Windows Vista Help directory seems to use 'h1s' files.
What on earth is this ? For sure Vista has nicely formatted Context
Sensitive Help but how ? Is this the new, much publicised MS Help
    format ?
Basically, we need a sensible single file help system for the
app and context sensitive help with hyperlinks & formatting.
Anybody have suggestions on what the trend is here - is there even
a single format solution for what must be a common applications
    requirement ?
Are Adobe planning their own Winhelp support now that MS have
    ditched it ?
Are MS planning a new Help System ?
    Thanks,
    Iain.

I find it fascinating that Microsoft distributes winhelp.exe
    (16-bit
WinHelp) as part of Vista but stubbornly refuses to
    distribute winhlp32.exe
(32-bit WinHelp). Apparently Microsoft still needs/wants to
    use WinHelp
popups so they're keeping the 16-bit WinHelp executable as
    part of Vista.
So now here's my question... Robohelp has its own .dll
    (RoboEx32.dll) that
it allows us to distribute. My understanding is that this is
    what allows us
to have the tripane view. Having been mostly away from help
    development for
the last several years but about to enter the fray again,
    what happens if I
develop a RoboHelp Help2000 project and load project.hlp,
    project.cnt and
the RoboHelp .dll file onto a Vista machine (which only has
    winhelp.exe)??
    Does this work?
    Thanks

  • Drill-down Report - Urgent !

    Hi,
Requirement: Master report should be stored as PDF file in local drive and open the same in the browser. The hyperlinks in this report should create detail reports as PDF files in local drive and should be opened up in the browser.
I've created the master PDF report in FILE format(stored in local drive) and also displayed it in the browser. When I click the hyperlinks in the master report, the detail PDF report should be created as PDF FILE in local drive and also should be opened in the browser.
I have problem in triggering both the events ( ie. creating the detail PDF FILE and opening it in the browser) in hyperlink format trigger.
Following is the format trigger code written in master report:
    srw.set_hyperlink('http://pcidl09908.cts.com:8889/reports/rwservlet?server=uma_rep&&report=D:\Uma\Abbots\test2.rdf&PARAMFORM=NO&userid=rate/rate@ratg&destype=file&desformat=pdf&desname=d:\oracle10g\forms90\java\detail.pdf');
    srw.set_hyperlink('http://'||hostname||':'||portno||'/forms90/java/'||'detail.pdf');
    srw.set_hyperlink_attrs('target=_blank');
Pl help me if you have a solution for this.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Since the report is running on the server, the output shall be as well. I don't think you can use desname to specify a local folder as the server knows nothing about local machine. It only has acces to it's resources.
The user will need to generate the report and then save to local disk. You could also think about other delivery methods such as email.
    Hope that helps.
