Hyperlink from ms access to jsp page

hi guys, i am quite new to jsp.
i have a servlet with a table in it.
the database is ms access.
below is a description of the ms access file
tblAdvertisement
AdvertisementID | AdvertisementName | URL

i am able to read the hyperlinks in the ms access and show on the jsp servlet table
but when i click on the hyperlink from the jsp servlet, i am unable to be redirected to the specific hyperlink.
below are my jsp servlet codes

the same goes for hyperlink2 to http://localhost:8084/AdvertisementJSP/www.yahoo.com instead of www.yahoo.com and so on for any other entries in the database.
i will be thankful if anyone is able to provide me with some assistance on how to modify the code so that my browser is able to display the desired link of the website according to the hyperlink which is read from the ms access database.

Do you know that absolute URL's usually start with the protocol identifier? You're forgotten it.

The solution would only work on MS IE browsers, as other browsers do not support an XML DOM.
It can be done, but you would be stuck with using the Microsoft broswer. If that is acceptable, I have some example code, and a book recommendation.

Error accessing my jsp page

I have created a simple web application and using tomcat 5. when i try accessing my jsp page..it just gives an error message..HTTP Status 404...The requested resource (/carnhotel/date.jsp) is not available.
however, it works fine when i deploy in default applications (servlet-examples, jsp-examples,root)...plz help..

How are you deploying this web application? Just in the webapps >directory?iewebapps/carnhotel/date.jsp?i have deployed in the webapps directory with the same directory structure...and also WEB-INF/web.xml
also, when i open tomcat admin console...click on host(localhost/context(/carnhotel))..displays an error ...

Daniel or anyone else, Help on why I can't access certain jsp pages

I have installed the Web Service Portlet Wizard to build my portlets. In particular,
I have created a URL porlet jsp which receives its content from a URL.
This URL that I retrive is an application that I have running on my Weblogic 6.1
Server. I can access the login page, and can logon and do a few things but for
some reason I Can't access certain pages. The pages I can't access are also jsp
pages on the wlserver6.1 server(exactly the same as other ones I can access and
interact with).
The error I receive on the Portal Front end is attached in a word doc. I have
also included in there, a snapshot of the access log for those pages, but I can't
really make out what it is telling me (if anything!).
For one of the pages, that I can't successfully access I get java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException
This only happens with 1 of the pages. But trying to access the same page withouth
going thru the portal I get NO errors what so ever.
Please if anyone can give me any information on why I can't access certain pages
via my portal It would be very helpful.
Finally I have included the code of my Portlet which accesses the URL. This is
also included in the word doc.

I don't know the Web Service Portlet Wizard too well, but I notice that
login.htm never seems to be found (404 in logs). I would think that the two
warnings below your JSP call (cookies, and portlet state) are your most
likely culprits. If the Web Service Portlet Wizard does not handle cookies
then the portal server will have to continiously reauthenticate. I will
forward your email however and see if I can dig up a better diagnosis. Also,
could you post the stack trace for the ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException you
are seeing.

Downloading xls sheet from application server using jsp page

I am creating an excel sheet and storing it in application server which runs on HP-UNIX OS. I want to download that excel sheet using jsp page. With the following code snippet i m able to access the jsp page, but i m not able to download xls sheet. its giving "the page cannot be found "error. Is there any other way to download the excel sheet from jsp page.

Calling function from Backing Bean or JSP page

We are on Jdeveloper 10.1.3.3.0, ADF Faces, JSF Faces .., Currently there is a function call from Javascript event (onmouseover) in the JSP page. I want to call this function from a backing bean or JSP page, as I have to pass some values to this function.
For Ex., I have a function call like return submit('A','B','Test'); on the Javascript event (onmouseover) in jsp page. I want to remove this function from the javascript event and call from backing bean or jsp page to pass some values into the submit() function. I appreciate if anyone can give some example of how to call this function from backing bean or jsp page in the <SCRIPT> or <SCRIPTLET>

A use case would be helpful so that we can get a better idea of what you want to do.
As a general rule, there is no way to call a client side Javascript function from a backing bean, which is server side. However, there are ways to inject information from a backing bean into your Javascript call. For instance, I have an application that uses Google Maps API. It has an onload call to a Javascript function that builds the map and designates it's center point. The center point comes from a backing bean as latitude and longitude properties. So here is my body tag:

onunload="GUnload()">onload calls the Javascript function called initialize, and passes the latitude, longitude, and distance from the bean. Is the function really being called from my backing bean? No - the parameters are hard coded into the onload event code when the page is rendered. Does it do the job? Sure it does.

Problem accessing variables from java file to JSP page

......How are you declaring the class in your JSP? ... are you instantiating it as a bean using the useBean tag, or just instantiating it in your code like normal.
Maybe you could post the relevant JSP code too?

Only the last string is populating after the file has be tokenized. What I'll like to accomplish is passing the very first string in the file. I did not get too far in the JSP file setup because the code is still in it's testing stage, but any help will be highly appreciated.

How to open a local file from javascript in a jsp-page

Hi
I have created an iview from a PAR file. In the par file I have a jsp-page with some javascript code. From the javascript coe I want to open a new window with an Excel file.
I have tried window.open("c:
test.xls", "test_window"), but it doesn't seem to work. I have created a small HTML page locally with the same command and there a new window opens with the Excel file.
If I change the local file path with an URL it also works.
Any idea how to open a local file ?

I'm not 100% (but 99,9%) and it has to do with security ristrictions of the browser not allowing to have local workstation interation from the web. This is ofcourse very dangerous if the browser would allow it... So therfore it is blocked. What if somone would point to a file/executable that formats your drive so for that reason it is not allowed to have web interaction with a local file. Only with Java Applets this is possible but still with many limitations, and what I remember Google Gears and Adobe Air do have some limited web 2 local file interaction... So best and most simple solution you are left with is pointing to a url instead of a file on a c:\ drive.
PS The reason why it works when you start the html from your local PC has todo with the fact that the browser detects that the html is not running in the web at that moment therefor allowing the access.

Passing Parameters from Dashboard to a JSP page

I have a table column of values displayed in dashboard. when a user clicks a value, that value should be send as a parameter to a JSP Page.
Tell me how to add that column value as a parameter to the url which navigates to the JSP page. Should i use some presentation variables?

I am using a presentation variable to store the column value selected by user(using a prompt). And i am using a Link (Dash board link ) to navigate to a jsp page.
I want the presentation variable's value should be accessed in the JSP page...
Now is it possible to pass the presentation variable's value through the url of the link to a jsp page.
Eg: Let Presentation variable is file, and i had given the Link's url as
http://localhost:9704/servco.jsp?file_id=@{file}
i dont know whether this is the correct way. Please help me out in this....

I am trying to access my jsp pages through mod_ose

When I enter the url to my context in my web browser it returns the error message:
'Service Temporarily Unavailable'
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
I have increased my processes, java pool size and shared pool size but I still get this message.
Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

This happens very frequently during development, I just do ctrl+F5 in IE to keep refreshing till I finally get a response back from the jsp or servlet... usually it takes about 2-4 refreshes to get the jsp to respond and after that its smooth till you change the jsp or restart Apache. Also this problem, in my experience, is associated with Apache forwarding requests to OSE via mod_ose and I dont see this problem if I access the jsp directly using the database listener http endpoint.

How to access a variable from a dynamically included JSP page

I have a jsp (say main.jsp) using the following in its code :
<jsp:include page="menu.jsp" flush="true" />
I have a variable in menu.jsp which I would like to use in my main.jsp.
How do I get the value of the variable defined in menu.jsp ?
I called this variable in menu.jsp, Public, but this didnot help me use the value of that variable in main.jsp

I do notice the variable var1 has the value populated - in menu.jsp - (from View -->
Source in the browser) but for some reason not able to use it in main.jspI'm not quite sure of the way your jsps are structured from your code snippet but I think there is something to be aware of here that may be part of your problem, namely the difference between the include directive and the include action.
You are currently using the include action, this treats the included resource as a dynamic object - i.e. a request is sent to that resource and the resulting response is included in your page. So when you think of what there is no java variable actually included - you'll just get the resulting HTML that is generated by menu.jsp
The include directive, as in <%@include file=�menu.jsp � %>, on the other hand treats the resource as a static object. This means the actual bytes in the included resource are inserted into the including jsp and then the result of that is compiled and processed, effectively you are cutting and pasting the menu.jsp into your calling jsp. In this case the variable would be available to the calling jsp.
However this approach does bring other difficulties that may break your current code, you'll just have to try it and see what happens.
