I activated home sharing but nothing shows up on my apple tv. Please help

My apple desk top and Mac book pro have the home sharing turned on but I can't see it on the apple tv.

I have the same issue with the new Apple TV (3rd gen).
I have two libraries on one machine which is connected to the LAN via Ethernet. Homeshare has been setup with the same Apple ID for both libraries and both accounts are logged in (using fast user switching), with iTunes running.
My iPad and iPhone can see both libraires and stream content from them over wifi. The ATV can see both libraries, but will only load content from one of them, and not always the one that belongs to the currently logged in user. The other, just gives the "could not connect to library. make sure your computer has itunes open, and that its on the same network as Apple TV." error, as above.
The network connection is fine, the ATV is up-to-date, as is iTunes and OSx. HomeShare is enabled on all devices and using the same Apple ID. I've tried rebooting, restoring the ATV, rebooting iTunes on both accounts and the Mac itself. Nothing works.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

For home sharing to work, both computers have to have itunes open. And they both need to be logged in to the same itunes account.

I've heard on older versions that you need to disable home sharing, then turn it back on but there's a trick, DO NOT HIT THE DONE BUTTON! when you click DONE it actually closes sharing. after you enter your username and password and hit enter, just go and click on your music folder on the left.
This seems to be the fix for many.
Word of caution - don't upgrade to iTunes 10.5 - it's breaks home sharing.

I activated home sharing but after syncing, the cd's Tunes which I had burned on my PC, did not share to my other devices but instead the cloud symbol has an error message next to each song not purchased through iTunes.

I activated iTunes Match but the songs in my iTunes library that were not purchased through iTunes did not share to my other devices. instead there is a cloud with an exclaimation point nnext to eahc one and it says errror when you mouse over the cloud. How do I get these songs to share on iTuens Match?

Well, now I feel like a real dope. I restarted iTunes (can't believe I didn't do that before) and now the TV's see the share, and the iPhone see it too (I assume the iPad sees it but I have not checked yet).

Using the same Apple id and Password you should be able to download purchased apps without being charged again.
I download to an iPad/iPad2/iPhone3 & iPhone4 with no problem.

Is it possible to share iBook purchases with my wife. I have turned on home sharing but it only permits her to share my music.

I would like to share books that I have purchased either on my mac or Ipad with my wife who also has her own mac and Ipad. I have activated home sharing but am only able to share my music. Is there a way to share my iBooks with her. It seems like such a waste to purchase a book and be the only one in my family able to read it.

I have Windows 7 main library, iMac with additional library and Apple TV that I want to use home sharing, but windows library doesn't show as a computer on Apple TV.

I have music and movie library on an external drive connected to a Windows 7 machine. I also have home movies and other content on an iMac that I use. I want to turn on home sharing for both and connect them to Apple TV for display, music and podcast. They are all on the same wifi home network, but the Windows library doesn't show up on the ATV device.
I turned off all Windows firewall and I tried to configure port forwarding, but that didn't help.
I will say that this did work at some point, so a patch or an update, or some configuration change has caused it to stop workin at some point in the past six months to a year.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
The movie isn't supposed to show up on the Apple TV, if you want to play content on your iPad via the Apple TV, you will need to use AirPlay.
Basic AirPlay: Assuming both devices are on the same network and that AirPlay is not turned off on the Apple TV, then simply tap on the screen when you are watching content you wish to stream to your Apple TV, then tap the airplay icon that appears in the control bar, choose the Apple TV from the menu that appears.
Mirroring: When displaying the content you wish to mirror on the iPad 2 (or better), iPad Mini, iPhone 4S (or better), double tap the home button (quickly) and swipe the bottom row of apps to the right to reveal the playback controls, tap the AirPlay icon and select your Apple TV from the list of available devices.

Home sharing problem: I have never set up home sharing but I feel I the concept and how it works. I recently (last 2 months or so) deauthorized, first time ever, all computers with my iTunes account. I have 3 computers authorized. I am trying to set up home sharing but get iTunes says:
"Home Sharing could not be activated because this computer is not authorized for the Apple Id "#########@###.com". Would you like to authorize now?" I click "authorize" and get the next error " You cannont authorize more than 5 computers. You have already authorized 5 computers with this Apple ID. To authorize this computer you must first deauthorize one of the other computers."
Can someone help or shed more light on my problem?

Home Sharing is designed to work on your local network not across the internet/cloud.
Stuff is accessed under the Computers column where your local iTunes library on a local computer would appear.
Home Sharing would share your iTunes content (i.e. stuff stored in itunes on the computer, not in the cloud) with AppleTV or an iPad etc on the SAME network.
AppleTV2 will not be able to see itunes content on the work computer over the internet. It's not designed to. if the work computer was on the home network it would.
iCloud is in it's infancy and is not a mature product - iTunes TV Show purchases appear on AppleTV, but currently music does not unless you are subscribed to iTunes Match. I find this rather odd to be honest, along with the inability to buy music on AppleTV2. Movies purchased in iTunes are not authorised for iCloud viewing currently either.
Maybe it has something to do with iTunes Match 'getting in the way' - i think they assume you'll use that whereas you really want to be able to access Purchased music from the cloud without subscribing to itunes Match which is overkill for some.

I used the iframe code from Facebook's "Like Button" site; and inserted the code in the html widget popup box, then positioned it where I wanted it on my page and published. It looks fine (though I had to add "http" before my url to get it to show up).
So, when a user clicks on button, a pop-up opens asking for Facebook password. When I (the user) enter a password, nothing happens after that. I thought the idea was that a user would be able to show their friends that they like my website. After I entered my password in pop-up after clicking on "Like" I went to my facebook page (a company page) to see if it showed that I (the user that clicked on "Like" on iweb) recommended the website. But nothing showed up. I thought maybe it was because Facebook associated my password as the admin for the Facebook page so didn't count it. But a friend tried it and same thing happened. I went back and on one page I put in another facebook code for a combo Like/Send button. It shows up but acted the same as the regular Like button.
Questions:
1. Is this the way the Like Button is suppose to work? Only benefit of Like button being that it just counts the clicks on the Like button and does NOT let users share their recommendation with their friends?
2. If it's suppose to let users share their "Likes" with their friends, what did I do wrong? There were three types of code but in reading discussions, they all say to use iframe. (I used the first choice which I think was html for Javascript SDK and put that in my HTML Snippit box and the Like/Share button showed up on my iweb page next to the facebook icon and the words "likes this" but when I click it, I don't see instructions that it's sending my recommendation to my friends.)
I must have done something wrong, but can't figure out what. Does anyone know? If the only benefit of the Like Button is the counter, it doesn't seem worthwhile.

The send button sends the link to their friends in the address field with a message.
They recieve a message in the inbox.
There's no post on a page.
If they want that, then they should share the link themselves.
Perhaps it's best to study what facebook has to offer and how it works instead of guessing what it is supposed to do and be disappointed.

I got some more info that may help.
I put a cd on my laptop, and was able to share it to my computer... So the problem is only from my computer to my laptop. I tried the firewall thing and it did not help. I read the rest of the trouble shooting page, and nothing else applies. iTunes is an execption and already was. I can not think of anything else being my problem. Do you think I should re-install iTunes or would that be a waste of time? At this point I am about to just call Apple for some help because I am getting to stressed over this.

Home sharing no longer shows up on my macbook pro iTunes. Our main computer is a Dell desktop that is authorized for home sharing. My macbook has also turned on home sharing, but the home computer does not show up. How exactly does home sharing work? Must you be in the same area to be able to use this feature or connected to the same network?
