I activated iTunes Match but the songs in my iTunes library that were not purchased through iTunes did not share to my other devices. instead there is a cloud with an exclaimation point nnext to eahc one and it says errror when you mouse over the cloud. How do I get these songs to share on iTuens Match?

Well, now I feel like a real dope. I restarted iTunes (can't believe I didn't do that before) and now the TV's see the share, and the iPhone see it too (I assume the iPad sees it but I have not checked yet).

Since I updated my iphone none of my music that I did not purchase through itunes no longer works on my iphone. It is weird, the music is on the iphone but in gray and the iphone does not recognize it. The only songs that I could play are my songs that I downloaded on my phone that were purchased through itunes.
Another error: When I purchase a new song on itunes it doesn't put the song in my purchased playlist like it used too. In order for me to play that song I just purchased I have to go back to the itunes store and play it directly from the place I purchased it from which is super annoying.
Frankly I am really disappointed with the constant errors from upgrades that should be "Up grades" Not "down grades". Not sure why is going on but not seems to work the same anymore. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with my iphone music?

I have iTunes 10.4.1 and iOS 4.3.5 on my ipod touch and I have activated home sharing but it's not showing up in my iOS devices. I don't know what i'm doing wrong.
My firewall is allowing iTunes. I even disabled it and see if that would work, and it didnt.

I've heard on older versions that you need to disable home sharing, then turn it back on but there's a trick, DO NOT HIT THE DONE BUTTON! when you click DONE it actually closes sharing. after you enter your username and password and hit enter, just go and click on your music folder on the left.
This seems to be the fix for many.
Word of caution - don't upgrade to iTunes 10.5 - it's breaks home sharing.

Thanks, Winston C, I've actually tried everything you suggested. I'm thinking now that the Home Sharing problem likely is related to Bonjour--I've seen several people mention this with similar (but not identical) problems. The solution that seems to work for some people is to uninstall and reinstall Bonjour. Frankly, I don't want to go through the trouble given that the iOS 7 release is imminent.
One thing that I haven't tried is resetting the ATV to factory settings. I'll give that whirl.

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value). You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these). Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above. The family sharing feature in ios8 sounds tempting since I currently have 4 of us working from a single account which causes some issues at times. Yes, home sharing works with both purchased and ripped music, as well as videos. It does not allow you to move content from one computer to another; it allows you to stream content from one computer to another computer or device on the local network (or connected via a VPN).
If you want to access music outside of your network and copying it is a problem, then you might consider Match.

Well, I don't think you are alone. My iTouch is exhibiting a high frequency liek static scratching on imported from CD songs. It's very annoying to be experiencing this kind of issue on such an expensive music player.

1. The sidebar option is gone. I LIKED the sidebar and it was easier for me to navigate that way.
2. Also no lists? I hate the icon way to view it. It makes my eyes go wonky and I have a harder time actually looking for what I want.

Downloading past purchases from App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
You can redownload from iTunes on your iTouch, if running iOS 5 or better.

I recently had to reinstall itunes after all of my computer files were completely lost. When I plugged my iphone into itunes and attempted to transfer my music from the phone to the computer (running windows 8.1), itunes erased all of my music that was not purchased through apple (and also ruined my playlists). Because the files on my computer were all lost, i do not have this music backed up anywhere.
I was wondering if there was any way to recover all of the songs that itunes had erased from my phone.
This really is quite frustrating because the deleted songs arent even available on itunes itself for purchase!

Is it a valid email from Apple, not a phishing attempt ? You can check the purchase history on your account via you Mac's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option - there should be a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it, click on that and you should then see a list of your account's purchases (the most recent purchase is above the list).

My apple desk top and Mac book pro have the home sharing turned on but I can't see it on the apple tv.

I have the same issue with the new Apple TV (3rd gen).
I have two libraries on one machine which is connected to the LAN via Ethernet. Homeshare has been setup with the same Apple ID for both libraries and both accounts are logged in (using fast user switching), with iTunes running.
My iPad and iPhone can see both libraires and stream content from them over wifi. The ATV can see both libraries, but will only load content from one of them, and not always the one that belongs to the currently logged in user. The other, just gives the "could not connect to library. make sure your computer has itunes open, and that its on the same network as Apple TV." error, as above.
The network connection is fine, the ATV is up-to-date, as is iTunes and OSx. HomeShare is enabled on all devices and using the same Apple ID. I've tried rebooting, restoring the ATV, rebooting iTunes on both accounts and the Mac itself. Nothing works.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

ITunes won't open if it has already been closed in the same session. No error message appears and I have already unistalled/reinstalled iTunes with no result.

My iTunes opens fine if it is the first time I have opened it since turning my computer on. If I close iTunes, however, it won't open again unless I restart my computer. No error message appears. Clicking on both the shortcut and file in iTunes folder does nothing. I unistalled iTunes and reinstalled it but the issue hasn't gone away. A virus scan has come up with nothing. I would appreciate any ideas that might help to fix this issue.

Having the same problem - am running Win 7 Pro 32 bit. Discovered that when you close iTunes task manager shows that iTunes.exe is still running and will not close unless you reboot. I have also found that after starting Win 7 that if I launch iTunes by inserting a CD, the CD plays and displays all tracks correctly. However, if I eject the CD and insert a different one neither Win 7 or iTunes recognises the CD. These problems seem to have started with the release of 10.5.2 - prior to that no problems at all. Have tried reinstalling and it does not make any difference.
