I am a serious dumbbell when it comes to the new phones out there and I want to upgrade...

My current phone is 6+ years old. The most technical thing I have done on it was to download a ringtone. Yep... seriously.
Now I need a phone that I can surf the internet. I still do not need texting although I am told by relatives that it is the only way to stay in touch CHEAP!! OK so maybe I could use that feature also.
I need the phone to be able to upload programs for the medical field and take great photos.
Sounds simple enough. I was told to go to the 4g network by another friend as I travel extensively in the US... OK that sounds like an expensive option? Don't know for sure but I am sure someone out there can help a technical deficient gal.
Any ideas on phones I should look at? It will sit in my pocket for +12hrs a day. I went to a Verizon authorized rep store and they were selling me the sun and moon with gobbly gook terminology that scared me away!

Hi sfuentes,
You need to check iCloud to see if they are actually there. Go to iCloud.com and sign in and then look at your Contacts there to see if the old ones are still showing on iCloud.
If they are not, then you can either re-enter them while you are on iCloud.com, or you can restore your device from the backup where you saved them:

Just brought a new 5s. Went home and backed up my 4s and when I plugged in the new phone it identifies it as a different devise, it won't sync it to replicate the old phone.

I just brought a new 5s. I went home and backed up my old 4s. When I plugged in the new devise and hit sync, it took about 5 seconds. It appears as a second devise and isn't updating the old phone to the new devise. I phoned Apple Support and they want to charge me $120 to complete the request, very annoyed as this should just be standard when you get a new devise. All I want to do is take all the old information from my old phone, and put it on my new one.
Would appreciate any help.

I suggest you start your iPhone 5S setup over from the very beginning.
Do that by erasing the entire contents of your iPhone 5S. Do Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings. That will, in fact, erase your iPhone 5S. You will then start with the "Welcome" screen. Enter your WiFi and Apple ID information. You will then be given the opportunity to set up as new or to set up using the iPhone 4S. That is what you are looking for.

Setting up an iPhone has never required creation of a new Apple ID.
You've apparently purchased content with both Apple ID's. Sign into the device with the correct Apple ID and sync the content.

The computer (top / back of monitor) gets really hot within minutes.

How old is the iMac?
With no backup, you have probably lost all your data.
Sounds like serious hardware problem for which you are going to have to take it to Apple for an estimate of repairs.

Baiscally the problem is that one comuter and one account has always been sued for eey persons itunes. option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large. a) type the key combination <CMD> + <OPT> + <ESC>
b) you select the menu item " > Force Quit..."

For the missing Artists on your iPod, make sure their tracks in iTunes are not marked as "Part of a compilation" in iTunes. You can do this by highlighting the track, right->clicking on them and choosing "Get Info" from the shortcut menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab and make sure there is NO tick mark next to this option in the lower right hand corner. Lastly, sync the updated changes to your iPod.

You would make address lables with the Contacts app.
If you don't have the user name and password used to set up the machine then you need to purchase the apps for yourself.
