I am advised that an update is available but when I press the download button all that happens is that my macbook tells me it is connecting to the server but nothing happens.

This problem occurs each time I try to download the update, currently 5.0, and I eventually have to close the attempt down

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

* Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
* Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

Chris , thanks for the prompt reply. The dvd was produced by a third party that I found on line . I had a number of old mini digital video cassettes from a Sony Handycam. I can play the DVD's on my laptop but I can't edit them on iMovies to delete a lot of the rubbish on them. I have five DVD's and three downloaded without any problem but the last two are according to iMovies non importable.

I downloaded a copy of Creative Cloud desktop but it says that my Muse is up to date. It was last updated in May but you have a new update today and it will not update. I thought maybe I am not suppose to have the Creative Cloud update because all I have is the individual app Muse and the photography program. So I uninstalled the CC desktop. Then when I open Muse it says I need the CC desktop to help with the update. So I get stopped either way. Now I also had a Pre-Release Muse on my computer and I don't know if that complicated things. Please advise.

All future installs/updates of Muse (and most other Adobe apps) are through the Creative Cloud desktop app. Thus you do need to have it installed.

Installed Mountain Lion, still getting a notification that an update is available.

Have already installed the Mountain Lion update, but upon initial log in I am still receiving a notification that an update is available the version the update states is available is the version of OSX already installed on the system.

Re-indexing spotlight didn't work, after re-indexing, I shut down, re-started and got the same thing, I took a few pictures to illustrate exactly what is happening:

It depends on what iPhone you have.
If it's an iPhone 4S or earlier, click here.
If it's an iPhone 5, you need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, and that requires an Intel Mac with at least 1GB RAM.

Using Windows Vista Home Premium and Firefox 3.6.18 on the computer in question. When I click on the check for updates I get message that no updates are available. Why is not 5.0 showing as an available update, since 5.01 is not needed for windows? When I converted from 3.6.18 to 5.0 a couple or so weeks ago it let me update on my other computer using Vista Home Premium. Why is Firefox making it harder to update now??? Where can I get 5.0 , since 5.o1 is not necessary for my windows computer??? I am a long time user of Firefox and it is getting more complicated, rather than easier to use. I have signed in and out of the app store and the password is correct. I have tried both kinds of reboot but that did nothing. I have tried to update the apps by connecting phone to Mac book pro...it shows the apps being download on the Mac book and says it will sync them to my phone but it does not. Everything else on my phone works fine.

There's a couple of things you can try with that one.
(1) You could try doing the update using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple website:

(2) You could try doing a "Run as Administrator" with your Apple Software Update.
Quit Apple Software Update first if you've got it open.
In Computer (or My Computer, on XP) open your C Drive or whichever drive you have your program files installed on.
If you've got a 32-bit Windows, open the "Program files" folder.
If you've got a 64-bit Windows, open the "Program files (x86)" folder.
Open the "Apple Software Update" folder.
Right-click on the "SoftwareUpdate.exe" file and select "Run as Administrator", as per the following screenshot:

There are intermittent issues reported with iTunes reporting that the update is available, but ASU not showing it as an option to install. (Got that a bit with the last 10.6.x version, too.)
If that's what is going on, I'd try updating your iTunes using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:

Get some apps from someone else, perhaps? You can check by doing a "Get Info" on your apps; that will show the account under which they were purchased.
Oh, and just to clarify so I'm not barking up the wrong tree, what exactly is iTunes saying? Is it showing the number in the icon indicating that there are five apps to be updated but showing the screen that says "No updates are currently available"? Or is it giving an error message somethign like "the item you requested is not available in the iTunes Store"?
