I am replacing my HD on my iBook and want to upload music from my iPod Nano

My hard drive crashed on my iBook and I am going to replace it, the problem is I only backed up my music on my iPod Nano, does anyone know how to upload the music from my iPod to my itunes once I get my computer up and running? I am sure there might be some music sharing block to prevent this but it is music I either bought from itunes or downloaded cd's I have...?

iTunes will only let you copy your purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

How do I transfer music from my ipod to my computer without replacing the music on my ipod with the music on my computer?

You can't do that with iTunes (except for songs you purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer songs files from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the songs files are on your computer, add them to your iTunes library.  Then, you can sync your iPod to that iTunes library, as desired.

Music Rescue also works as far as restoring your playlists etc. I've used it twice, you can use the Quick Recover mode, but have to click continue trial (something like that) allot, cp. to purchase option. Otherwise diesel is right as far as restoring via  your purchase history.

Connect it to the Mac and use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes.

I think you mean you are replacing your Airport Extreme with a Time Capsule. Time Machine is software integrated into OS X 10.5 & 10.6 used to automatically backup a system to an external HD. Time Capsule is an Airport Extreme that has a hard disk integrated into it that can be used for storage or  as a Time Machine backup drive.
Because you are currently on Tiger 10.4.x you can backup to a external HD using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. Having a backup is very wise before doing any major system update. After  you have created the backup and have successfully upgraded to Snow Leopard you can still use the external HD for many things. The strategy I'd recommend is to use the new Time Capsule as your Time Machine backup and then use the external HD as backup using SuperDuper or CCC. Redundant backups is wise because backups can (and do) fail too! In addition both SD and CCC are bootable clones, this is useful in that if your internal HD crashes you can boot from a cloned drive and continue working until the internal HD is replaced.
Below are some links to some articles from MacWorld, I would recommend reading them where you find a common theme, redundant backups. Backup Plan I, Backup Plan II & Backup Plan III.

  • Can i use both the ibook and kindle ebook apps on the same ipod?

I have the ibook ebook app on my ipod touch at the moment which i love and use a lot but one of my favourite authors has started releasing her ebooks only for kindle devices. Can i install the kindle ebook app on my ipod as well as the ibook app without the two interfering with each other?

as well as Barnes & Noble's Nook app, Sony's ereader, Kobo, and a dozen or more additional ereaders.
If reading PDFs, I like "GoodReader" as it has the ability to re-render the text to a larger font size that is earier to read on an iPod Touch.

  • Can't Upload Music from Burned CD to Replace Lost Music

I bought some music through iTunes. Somehow it was deleted or lost. I've done everything the Help menu suggested (searching the whole computer, thumb drive where the music was, recycle bin, etc.) and still can't find the music. Most of it was burned to a CD but when I try to upload it back into iTunes, it says the file can't be found (from the CD!). Also, is there any way to reclaim the music that wasn't backed up?
    Thanks!

    Glad you got that sorted.
As to your next question, I assume that you're referring to songs purchased from the iTunes Store. Officially, you are only allowed to download them once. There have been reports of people contacting customer service and explaining the circumstances and getting authorization for a second download. I don't recall the link that has been recommended for such a contact but there is a customer service link at the bottom of the page.

  • Installing Hard Drive on my iBook G4 and want to download my Ipod music

My iBook G4 crashed yesterday and I am ordering a new hard drive and after I install it I want to download all of the music from my iPod Nano (latest version - 4th gen I believe) back onto my computer becuase that is my only backup. Does anyone know what the process to do that?
I am worried I can't just install it becuase it thinks I am trying to install all of the music on someone else's computer once I get my running again

If you need assistance with swapping out the HDD, formatting etc. we can help you, but for your question about transferring music from the iPod Nano I suggest that you post that question in the Using your iPod nano (4th generation) forum where there are more likely to be folk who are familiar with your issue.

  • IPod nano transfer songs to an iBook

    Hi
I just had a major problem with my trusted iBook, and I had to get my hard drive replaced, it was done by an apple certified shop/technician. The problem is that I lost my original iTunes music/photo library.
The songs and the pictures are still on my iPod nano 8gb. My wife's songs are still on her iPod nano 4gb. Both iPods are less than 6 months old.
Can I transfer my songs and pictures from my iPod back to my iBook?
    Are there any possible problems?
I tried with my shuffle and all the songs were deleted from it!
    Did I do something wrong?
I don't want to have to spend quite a long time transfering the songs again.
Also, my iBook's CD ROM drive is a bit dodgy now, as sometimes it reads the CD and transfers ok, sometimes it just ejects it!
    Look forward to your help
    Thanks
    James

    Hi Mitch
Does it matter which version of iTunes is installed on my iBook and the version of software on my iPod.
On my iBook, there is version 4.7.1 and on my iPods I have Version 1.1.2.
I cannot use version 7.1.1 of iTunes as my iBook does not have 256 MB SDRAM only 192 MB SDRAM.
Look forward to your comments again.
    Thanks
    James

  • My computer crashed hard drive was replaced and now I have lost my music.  Am trying to sync with my music from my iPad and iPhone but it is not working what is the problem

I need help please!  My computer crashed lost all data including my music.  Want to sync music from my ipad and/or iphone but it is not working.  What could be the problem how do I tackle it?

Syncing only works from your computer to your iPad/iPhone, not the other way around.  So you can only transfer your purchased music from the iPhone to your computer.
    See this document: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
My computer crashed lost all data including my music.
How bad was the crash? Had the drive to be replaced? Or is there a possibility to use data recovery software on that drive?
