We can sometimes get past this particular message by reregistering the Windows Installer Service.
First, launch a command prompt as an administrator. In your Start search, type cmd then right-click on the cmd that comes up and select "Run as administrator".
If you have a 32 bit system
At the command prompt:
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Restart the PC and try another install.
If you have a 64-bit system
At the command prompt:
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.

It's under utilities in the window menu.
If the simple PDF works, that may indicate a problem with the file after all, but one way to to force the export to the foreground is to create a new Book (File > New > Book), then add the file that's giving you trouble to that book. (a Book is just a container format used to combine multiple .indd files into a single output)
From the Book panel flyout menu you can export to PDF and see what that does. Failure indicates a file problem, success a background task problem.
It's a little odd that you aren't getting an error message....
Anyway, if the problem is the file, try export in two halves. If both halves export, it's a system resources problem and not much you can do other than attempt to see what is using all the memory (probably some large complex vector object, or many vector objects) or just do the export in chunks that work and combine them in Acrobat Pro. If one half fails, try exporting half fo the failing half at a time. Keep dividing the failing half until you isolate a page with the problem.

OK, you seem to be running Zone Alarm as your firewall. It includes a utility which checks to see whether a site is safe or not and also adds a plugin to Firefox which is listed as '''npFFApi'''. Can you disable that and see if it makes any difference?

Hi--running SK 7.1.0.105 on an updated Windows 8.1 Toshiba PC.
I have a conference call later today, so when I saw the update I wanted to get it over and give the system hours to crash, blue screen, stop using audio or video--the usual things I have come to expect from updates.
The new Wizard starts with authorizing auto-updates. I backed out to find another screen. I made sure auto-updates are not on. I don't allow auto-updates on anything anymore, because I lose work, have my machine freeze, etc.
Windows 8.damned doesn't like auto-upgrades.
Can you upgrade without this feature, or do I have to attempt to freeze at this level, and either look for another program, or wait for MS to realize that this was a mistake?
I realize that all Win 8.1 users have been left hanging in the wind, but thought I'd check, and hope.

I also would like to know how to opt for non-auto update!!

I do all my updates manually Friday afternoons so I have the weekend to fix my MS **bleep** in case it **bleep**es up! (Not as often these days but it still happens.) There are users in need for auto update I get it. But not having the option is totally NOT ok.
Also as a MS win 8.1 phone user I would like to know what happened to skype for windows phone? At first I was all giggly about how nice the integration with the phone and skype worked. I few bugs and some things needed some polish but a lovely total experience. Then what happend? NOTHING! The development team totally must have gone home. Today Viber is more integrated with the phone! Your contacts in the same place as you normaly would want them just for startes. COME ON MS/Skype. get back in the game PLZ!

I have just done a custom run on my Ipod touch 2nd Gen of 12k. When I finished the run is appearing in my run history on my iPod touch, however it is not appearing in my itunes 'Nike+' tab, or on the Nike + website. I can't seem to get this run to sync and it is really annoying because I'll be loosing 12k. Can anyone help or has experienced this before? I know there are solutions to add runs to iPod nano's and older iPods using the 'Enable disk' and iPod_control function however from what I'm aware you cannot do this on an iPod touch. Can anyone please help?

They would only be where you put them. What program did you use to import them? Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all. You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

Adobe: Can you either 1) not update so frequently or 2) fix the acceptance processing for it?

I've just waded through many, many pages of entries to find if anyone has asked this and haven't found a precise match so please forgive me if I am (re)covering something of this specific nature.
This is addressed to Adobe itself, having found no other way to contact them directly due to time/location/etc or an email address, and it is, I guess rhetorical: more something to be acted upon if possible than requiring an explicit textual response.
Judging by a google of related questions (and the auto-complete bringing up, for example "why does adobe update so much?") it is obviously something that doesn't just effect me. I DO wish to have an up-to-date version of Flash Player and PDF Reader, etc, but I find the way it is handled by Adobe to be incredibly intrusive and annoying.
1) IF you really do need to make so many updates, it suggests, if I may say, something is amiss in your software development lifecycle - ie concentrating on getting things right before release. IF you don't, then please reduce their frequency.
2) IF you do need to make the updates (and in fact even if you don't), please can you do *something* about the user-interface / process of managing their installation for the end-user? I've lost count of the number of times I've given it the go-ahead and then gone off to do something else, only to return to find a dialogue box has popped up (probably right as I turned my back) to ask for further verification, and not just once either. In addition I'm getting advised of things that I believe either were never a problem or are no longer a problem, contrary to this advice. I guess my suggestion would be to try to deal with any and all of these things, where in fact they are indeed necessary, at ONCE - one dialogue box, one break in the line of thought that probably prompted the user to turn on the computer in the first place.
This is one of those things that I'm amazed has persisted for as long as it has: at least a year or two, perhaps several. For me personally, and I suspect for many others, it's one of the more frustrating events of regular computer use. Please, please, can you do something to resolve it?

Thanks Jeff. Yes, it did give me that option, but I chose not to take it as I prefer to a) retain control over what gets onto my hard-drive and when, and b) be able to have an idea of my bootup time (ie if in a hurry to do something, be able to put off a new update until a later time.)
But the second point of my original post still stands - if it was possible to compile the two or more points of interaction via dialogue boxes, into one (eg yes, I want to install; yes, I agree with the terms; yes, please leave my install as manual; go!) it would be greatly appreciated. That way you avoid the scenario resulting from slower computers and/or internet connections where the user gives the process the go-ahead, goes off to do something else, returns to do what they have to do on the computer and finds it's been sitting there waiting for more input and therefore still not fully booted and ready to use.
