You can only update via the ipod with ios 5 or later.
You need to update via itunes on your computer as always.

Is there no sound period? I mean nothing through the headphones or the speaker? If the sound works only through the speaker or just through the headphones the switch inside the headphone port maybe stuck open. Try plugging and unplugging 10 to 12 times to unstick it. If no sound at all, go into Settings>Music>Volume Limit. See if it is turned on, if so check that the limit is not turned down to zero. If still not the problem try a soft reset, press and hold the power and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears, about 15 seconds, then release. if still no joy go into Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. If still no joy, connect to iTunes via the cable and Restore to backup. If that doesn't work Restore to new. Just remember to save all your stuff that can be wiped before you restore, pictures, music, contacts etc. If none of this works, then maybe a hardware issue contact Apple Genius Bar or store and have your iPod evaluated. I tried the compressed air, Qtip, etc... still nothing. Called Apple again.... and we did a complete factory reset from iTunes, wiping everything out... still no sound, which proves that it is a hardward problem, under warranty, I have to have phone replaced No Apple repair centers within 300 miles of me! So... shipping phone off today. Bummer.

so i was updating my ipod touch (4g) to ios 6 and i needed to stop it in the middle of updating. so i held the home button and the lock button at the same time for it to restart. It started turning on with the apple symbol and then the screen went white. I kept trying to do the same thing but it wouldnt work. Eace time i did that the screen was a different color. I was yellow/white at one point, blue at another time and sometimes the color behind the apple symbol. It got really HOT and i just let it die. When it was dead i put it on a charger. once it got charged up it started turning on with the apple symbol. then it turned white again and then restarted without me touching anything. When it restarted it turned the blue again. i took it off the charger immediantly because i didnt want it getting as hot as it was before. ive tried every way i know how to fix it but not putting it in the computer because i dont want it to ruin the computer. Please help because i really dont want to get a new ipod. Ive read a lot about how to fix it here on apple but there all the same answer and it still doesnt work. Please respond ASAP! thank you! i could really use your help right now!
First see if placing the iPod in Recovery Mode will allow a restore.
Next try DFU mode and restore.

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

My iPad isn't getting connection to internet. It just suddenly stopped! It says it is connected to WiFi but it just keeps spinning and nothing will come up. Have tried rebooting my router and iPad (my other computer is connected just fine).
Try turning WiFi off on the iPad, then reset it again, turn WiFi on again and join your network again if necessary. Or go to Settings>WiFi>Your network name>Forget this network. Reset your iPad and then join your network again. Or - settings>General>Reset>Reset network settings. Reset the iPad, then try to join your network again.

You need to restore from backup. The backup contains app data like game progress. Make sure that autosyncing is turned off otherwise whe yu connect iTunes will make a back that does not contain the data. To to that go to iTunes>Preferneces>Devices and check the box that says Prevent iPods....syncing.
Yu can alsolook at the date/time of the backup on that screen and see if it might contain the data. -
