I am trying to Install Windows 7 64 bit on my MacPro but on restart it flash between the apple icon, the stop icon and the unknown icon.
The optic drive does not read the windows 7 install disk yet in Lion it sees the disk as a Windows DVD.
There are a number of tutorials, walk thru, and other articles on installing Windows 7 on MacBook Pro
http://www.bing.com/search?q=AppleMacBook+Pro+17%22+Windows+7+BootCamp
Some Macs are not officially supported by Apple's EFI firmware for booting from Windows 7 64-bit.
*Macs that work with 64-bit editions of Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows 7*
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846
- If yours isn't listed, it is possible but more difficult to install 64-bit version. The DVD Win7 64-bit requires UEFI 2.x (EFI64) which only some Macs had even in 2008.
Are you seeing "Select 1 or 2" message?

Didn't sound like it, but have to ask. And not surprised your Apple "Genius" are stumped.

For the MacBook Air, Apple has special instructions for using CD or USB:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4407
Important:
Apple does not provide technical support via phone for installing, using, or recovering Microsoft Windows.
Support is available for using Boot Camp Setup Assistant, as well as installing or restoring Boot Camp software while booted into Windows.
Support articles and discussions may also be available on Apple's support website.

iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 running10.10.2 (14C1514). Trying to install Windows 7 64 bit from an install disc. When attempting to create an ISO image I can save the file in disk utility but can convert cdr to iso. I select the file and the hit return as in step 8 of the Creating an
iSO image document but the box that should open to select use iso does not open. How should I proceed? The Mac SuperDrive built into your Mac is the Optical drive.
1. Insert your Windows DVD in Optical drive. Disconnect any external storage.
2. Insert a USB2 Flash drive. This will be used to hold the BC drivers.
3. Start BCA. Check the options to download software and Install Windows. You do not need to download Windows. The BCA will download the BC drivers to the USB.
4. Partition your drive.
5. You can see the Windows installer screens at https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/mac/5.0/help/#/bcmp173b3bf2. -

i have an iMac with mountain lion 10.8.3 with boot camp 5.0.2 .i installed windows 7 -64 bit with boot camp but the boot camp didn't install drivers for windows please guide me for trouble shooting .
Kappy wrote:
Boot Camp doesn't install the drivers. You have the drivers on a separate USB device if you followed directions. Once in Windows connect the USB drive with the driver software. It should startup automatically and install the drivers.
You don't even need to do that. As downloading the drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant can be unreliable, it is better to get the package directly from here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
Copy the .zip file to a USB flash drive or burn it to a DVD in OS X. Install Windows as normal, insert the flash drive/DVD in Windows, copy the .zip file to the hard drive, extract it, then run the setup executable. -

790FX-GD70 & 3TB Drive Trying to install windows 7 64 bit
Hi,
I've had this mother board for 2 years now, works great! Use it primarily for gaming, but it can handle anything I can throw at it... Until I got a 3TB SATA HDD... Well I learned rather quickly what I needed to do to be able to see the entire 3TB, which I got it partitioned and that's done. But it was a GPT (GUI Partition Table) which windows can't be installed to... or that's where I get hung up...
Well upon googling my butt off, I've learned of UEFI, which I'm not sure if my board is UEFI compatible? I guess is my question... or can someone tell me how to install windows on a 3TB HDD with this motherboard? I want to use the smaller of the 2 partitions...
Let's see... My specs are:
AMD Phenom II x4 965
16GB DDR3 PC10666
500GB SATA HDD
3TB SATA HDD
XFX HD-489X-ZSFC Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
MSI 790FX-GD70
Thanks!!!yes both are on the board UEFI BIOS type and 3TB+ infinity is part of the boards featurs for 3TB drives to contain an OS but the 790FX-GD70 like we have does.t have these features on the board!
only the newer ones like the 990FX or 990X series boards have both these features.
3TB+ infinity is a GUI that works as a way of circumventing the 2TB max size of a OS drive and allow it to be formatted in such a way to trick an OS into installing on a GPT format drive instead of MBR one! -
MSI Big Bang-XPower: Errors and Bluescreens Trying to Install Windows 7 64-bit
Hello! This is my first build since... Well, Pentium 3 really. It's been an adventure learning the new hardware. The PC components listed in my signature are the pieces to the machine I'm working on currently, and the one related to this issue.
It boots up just dandy, all the bright and shiny mobo lights blinking reassuringly, recognizes the full 12 GB of RAM in setup, and everything seems peachy until I get to loading the Windows 7 install.
I've tried using an old Vista disc I had lying around, no go. Same issues. I tried loading a different Windows 7 Pro 64-bit disc. Same issues.
These are the error messages I'm receiving most often:
"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1.) Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2.) Choose your language settings, and then click 'next'.
3.) Click "repair your computer".
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
File: \windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe ((This changes every now and then, as does the status number. Always in the system32 file though))
Status: 0xc0000098
Info: Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing, or corrupt."
The error is inconsistent in the files it mentions, also often referring to:
"File: \windows\system32\config\system
Status: 0xc0000001
Info: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt."
The HDD is still brand new and entirely blank, not yet even formatted. I have not done much changing things around in the BIOS, because I haven't done much in the BIOS in a very long time, and I'd rather not accidentally make things worse without first obtaining external help. I do not currently intend to overclock the machine, as I am a huge wuss and don't want to screw up my shiny new equipment with my noobsauce. XD
I did some searching around the Interwebs, and found references to similar problems where it was suggested that the person remove all but one stick of RAM and try loading the OS at that point, but it was also mentioned that one stick for that person would be 2 GB. The least I have available to me is 4 GB, and I have attempted this with no change. In this instance, flashing the BIOS to a new version was also recommended. However, I have never flashed a BIOS before and am leaving that as a last resort unless otherwise advised.
Setup currently lists my BIOS Version as V1.2 060910.
It has on a few attempts made it past the 'Starting Windows' screen, and this is the kind of error I generally receive there on a bluescreen:
"STOP: c00002221 Unknown Hard Error
\Systemroot\System32\ntdll.dll"
Over the course of this build, I found that the two previous HDDs that I'd ordered from Newegg were dead and were neither consistently spinning up nor being detected by the mobo, but the current one seems to be recognized just fine. I'd been worried it was a mobo issue, that it just wasn't recognizing them.
I've also read around, and am wondering if perhaps this could be related to a RAM incompatibility issue with the mobo and processor? The RAM that was recommended to me for this build was Triple Channel DDR3 PC 1333, and is supposedly low voltage enough to play happily with the current equipment.
I'd thought to plug the HDD into another machine and format it/install the OS there, then hook it back up and see if it boots, but I have serious doubts as to whether that will ultimately solve the problem, and solving the problem is really what I'm after.
All the equipment save for the power supply and HDD were bought on Newegg.com.
Any assistance would be incredibly appreciated. I'd really like to get the new baby up and running.
:DWelp, I wasn't a moron bios flasher >.>... It was stable when I flashed it, and it said it was successful... I cleared CMOS after it was done, did the reboot and load optimized thing and reboot again...
Aaaaand it won't go into Windows. Now, I went back at that point and set all the settings back to what let it boot originally: 9-9-9-20, 1.6v, CR of 2... made sure it was booting in the right order, unplugged the USB...
And it freezes midway through the little windows icon forming, bluescreens, and shuts down. I haven't been able to catch what it is yet, since it's crashing so fast.
I tried to run the windows repair thing when the option was given after the crash, and it gets partway through loading the files and then crashes again, sending me right back to the same place.
*facedesk*
On the bright side, what files it does load seem to be loading quickly. _ _;
Edit: Tried booting into my Ubuntu drive, no luck. Just sits stuck at the startup screen. Tried loading Failsafe Defaults... still crashes. Still fiddling with it. I'm hoping the fact that I can get into the BIOS at all means I didn't bust it, but never done this before.
Edit: Managed to load into Startup Repair with just one stick of RAM in it, fiddling with it still and seeing what happens.
Edit: _ _;; Bluescreened and restarted. *facedesk... facedesk...*
Edit: Tried Startup Repair again, and it said 'Startup Repair cannot repair this this computer automatically.' This was the information it gave:

The mouse isn't lagging across the screen anymore at least, I guess.
Edit... Again >.>: After some searching around the web, it seems as though there have been other people with similar problems with other boards, etc. Most suggested a repair or reinstall of Windows. I don't have much on the drive installed yet that can't be redone, so I'm going to venture a reinstall. Will post results. -
Trying to install Windows 7, 64 bit on Bootcamp
I am trying to install 64 bit Windows 7. I used the Bootcamp Assistant, followed the whole process as specified, but at an early stage it said it needed a driver for the cd/dvd drive; when I tried to give it the required driver, it said 'No drivers found'. I took it to the Apple Store and even the 'Geniuses' couldn't sort it. We tried putting the OSX disk in an external disk drive and giving it the drivers that way, but same message... (32 bit was no problem). Any ideas?

Can I install Windows 7 64-bit on my mid-2007 dual quad core "Clovertown"?
Hi all,
I want dearly to install Windows 7 64-bit on my MacPro, but the only online compatibility information says bootcamp 3.1 for 64-bit works with "early 2008" Macs and not "mid-2006" Macs. I'm stuck in between, for I purchased a mid-2007 MacPro with dual quad core Clovertown processors, which are 64-bit. I'm unsure though if I will run into problems trying to use Bootcamp 3.1 in this case (I have Snow Leopard as well). I've called Apple support several times and they basically say they are not sure, but don't see why it wouldn't work. Any thoughts from the group?
Cheers,

Cannot install Windows 7 (64-bit) with Bootcamp
I tried to install Windows 7 64-bit on a MacPro running MacOS 10.6.7 with Bootcamp Version 3.0.4 (325).
I get the following hardware information from 'About This Mac':
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro1,1
Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MP11.005C.B08
SMC Version (system): 1.7f10
After I inserted the Windows installation DVD and boot it up, I got an empty screen that asked me to select boot type, 1 or 2.
The keyboard did not respond any input so the whole installation was hung. Can someone shed some light on what may went wrong? You can
Select CD-ROM Boot prompt
You just can't boot from the DVD without extra steps.
Apple uses UEFI on those Macs that are "blessed" as being compatible, and yours and mine have older 2005 era EFI32 that won't.
We also are stuck with 1.9GB usable RAM in 32-bit Vista/7 also, another blow.
And no firmware update to Unified EFI 2.x to make us "compatible." Has not stopped 1000s from doing so though. -

Trying to install Windows 7 on iMac Mountain Lion - Pain
Hey all,
I am having hard times trying to install Windows 7 (64 bits) on my iMac.
Have followed every steps (Boot Camp and Apple guides, checked the forums here, etc.); made the partition, downloaded the drivers onto an empty and FAT formatted USB hard disk, etc., and all that worked fast and easy.
The problem starts when it comes to install W7 (Superdrive built in so it's in a DVD): after I choose the language, right away it says "No drivers found". It supposes to ask for the drivers after the installation but it does the opposite. I have checked the drivers one by one and it recognizes some of them, but when it tries to load them a new windows pops up repeating the same "No drivers found" thing.
I even modified Boot Camp so now it can burn a ISO image onto a USB drive. Downloaded and tried another W7 version but it was worse ("no bootable device" message...)
Have checked many other threads like this, vids, etc., but have found no solution so far. Apple's help definitely *****... And this supposes to be cake. Have spent days on this and nothing.
Just in case, all I have used on this is Boot Camp (updated, 5.0.4) and everything else on my computer is updated also. Don't have any VM, nothing like that.
Don't know how to solve this and install Windows on my computer. Please somebody help me. I am far from being a tech so will appreciate your patience on descriptions. Thanks! There are various guides for installation and compatibility on the Apple support site for Bootcamp, did you download and read them?
I have only installed Windows once with Bootcamp, that was Windows 8, I followed the instructions and it worked ok but there seems a few items that you need to be aware of, it is all in the manuals, Apple suggest you print them off for reference.
That is about as much as I can tell you. -
Can't find a bootable device after trying to install Windows 7 in bootcamp
I've been trying to install Windows 7, 64 bit. Haven't managed yet due to problem that I've just posted about in a separate thread. Now, though, when I switch on it says 'can't find a bootable device'. If I switch on whilst holding down the Option key, the (OSx) internal hard drive is there and I can boot up. But I don't want to have to do that every time... Tried resetting the PRAM as advised, made no difference.
Look at Apple () -->system preferences -->*Startup Disk*
hope this helps -
Installing Windows 7 64-bit - DVD won't boot
I recently downloaded the 64-bit version of Windows 7 from my school's MSDNAA page and burnt the ISO to a DVD. I had XP on a dual-boot setup to actually get the download, so I deleted the partition and decided to start fresh for Windows 7. When I went through the boot camp assistant it wouldn't boot from the DVD. If I use a program like rEFIt I can see the 'bootmgr.efi' as a volume to boot from, but when selected it gives me the error "Unsupported while loading bootmgr.efi". Has anyone else come across anything like this? Thanks in advance for your help!
Hey,
I had problems when trying to install Windows 7 64-bit from a disk burned from an iso.
If you still have the iso file follow the instructions on this page - http://www.gopulls.com/blog/2009.08.26/install-windows-7-x64-on-a-mac-beat-the-s elect-cd-rom-boot-type-error/
or this page - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2372797&tstart=45
Apparently the issue is something to do with the fact that the install disk has two boot sectors instead of one...this thread explains it better - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1867336
Hopefully it will work for you as it did for me!
