I am unable to connect to wifi that has a password - this includes my home, my work (2 work places) and my brother's home - and I do have the correct passwords

I just got the iPhone 5s - I am unable to access wifi that has a password including home, office, family's homes - any ideas?

Follow these steps to troubleshoot the above issues:
Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your Wi-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
Tap and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
At step 6 after you say forget network. Turn off the WiFi and then turn it back on. It should now come up with the network name you want to connect to. It will appear in the list of available WiFi networks.
Click the name of the network and enter the password if it asks for it. That should get you on the wifi.
Good Luck

  • My Ipad went into disable mode after my grandchild entered the wrong passcode several times.  I have never synced this IPad, and I have so many photos on the Ipad that I do not want to lose.  I have the correct password, is there anyway to enable the IPad

My Ipad went into disable mode after my grandchild entered the wrong passcode several times.  I have the correct passcode, but I have never synced the IPad.  It says Connect to Itunes Diable Ipad.  I have many pictures I do not want to lose and I have never backed up.  Is there a way to open the Ipad without losing all of my pictures or data.

You should be able to recover any pictures you have taken on your iPad (in Camera Roll), but not application data etc, by connecting, via USB not wifi , to your computer.
If you are using a mac, connect your iPad, if iTunes automatically launches close it, run iPhoto and wait till your iPad is shown under Devices, you can then import all or selected photos.
If you are using Windows, again connect and close iTunes if it starts. Then browse the device using explorer, your photos will be shown on the device in My Computer held in a folders under DCIM (or something similar), you can copy and paste them into which ever folder you want on the PC.
The rest I'm afraid is gone unless you can remember the passcode, sorry.
    Hope all goes well.
    Cheers

  • I used the wrong password for my belkin wifi. Now that I know the correct password I can not get pass the unable to connect or join message. I have turned off all the options such as wifi and join and also put my touch to sleep.. but nothing seems to work

I used the wrong password to join my new belkin wifi. Now that I have the correct password, I can not get the to the join screen with the space to type in the password. I continue to get the unable to join message.  I have put the touch to sleep and I have turned on and off the wifi and join options on the Network screen page.  Does anyone know how to get pass this block of the wrong password to a new page that will allow me to type in the correct password.  I see there is a option that asks if I want to reset the network settings.. is that what I should do? and what does it erase when I do that?  Thanks for any input anyone has.

Yes.  Reset network settings. Head to Settings -> General -> Reset and tap Reset Network Settings.

  • HT1212 Someone tried to unlock my iPhone so many times that it is telling me I cannot try again for 3,600 minutes. How do I bypass this time and unlock my phone with the correct password?

My iPhone had become disabled after someone attempted to unlock it an absurd number of times. It now says I must wait 3,600 minutes before I can unlock it. I have the correct password, but it will not let me enter it. Is there anyway I can bypass the 3,600 minutes?

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately I'm pretty far away from the computer that I usually sync with. Also, I read that page and it was helpful other than the phone remained locked after restoring it. I've now restored it a couple of times and it is still telling me I must wait 3,600ish minutes until it will allow me to enter a passcode and unlock the phone. Any other suggestions?

  • Unable to connect to WiFi on 10.6.8

I just moved to a new apartment and have thus far been unable to connect to the WiFi here.
After browsing these forms and Google and trying a good number of solutions that worked for others I'm left at a loss. I running a MacBook Pro 15" with OSX 10.6.8 SL and attempting to connect througn WiFi to a Netgear WPN824v3 with no success.
I am able to see the SSID in my Airport dropdown and it recognizes that it is secured with WPA however, when I enter the correct password it states: "Connection Failed" If I enter the wrong password it states: "Invalid Password"
I have tried restarting multiple times. I shutdown and rebooted manually,
    Rebooted the router,
    Deleted:
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    NetworkInterfaces.plist
    preferences.plist
    Reset my NVRAM,
Changed the routers mode from 108Mb to G&B only as well as changing the channel to both 1 then 11, (its currently back on 108Mb mode and channel 6)
Installed all software updates as of 03/21/13.
I also tried repairing disk permissions.
I'm currently at a loss and can only connect through ethernet here at my apartment while my roommates (and my phone) can access through the wifi. (I have no issue connecting to other Wifi connections, coffee shops etc.) Any help you guys could provide would be awesome.
    Thanks in advance.
    Josh

Also, please note that I attempted connecting with a USB Wifi adapter (Alfa AWUS036h) and it works completly fine. This, and please correct me if im incorrect, narrows it down to an Airport issue.
Also, I forgot to mention that I attempted the "Assist Me" function as well but to no avail.

  • Unable to connect to WiFi temp fix

IM in IT with a major 500 company and what I've done to be able to connect to my wifi at home was to go into the router setting and change the wifi channel from auto to 1-11 and that worked for me. When I was connect to my wifi at home I was getting unable to connect to wifi. I noticed this after upgrading to iOS6. It looks like IOS6 has issues with the Channel functions on the router it's connecting to. Although you are able to connect I noticed that the signal will sway from 3 to 2 bars and this has nothing to do with your router but how the iPhone searches and connects to WiFi locations. The only fix for that would be for apple to fix its iOS.

    Try this -
When you device is POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery. This make a reboot to your device which minor issues with the BlackBerry device.

  • TS1398 ipod touch 5.1.1 unable to connect to wifi

unable to connect  to wifi with a ipod touch 5.1.1////the wifi remains gray

    See:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

  • HT5569 I am having trouble connecting to my wifi.  I put in the password (the correct password) and it tells me that it is the wrong password.  I just purchased this iPad and cannot seem to get connected.  My laptop connects with a pin not a password.

I just bought a iPad and am trying to set it up.  I have WiFi at my home but cannot get on with my iPad.  My laptop asks for a pin number to join and the iPad asks for a password.  I enter the correct password and it tells me that it is incorrect.  I have talked to my WiFi carrier and they tell me that they do not know what it could be.  Can someone please help me figure this out.

connectng with a pin # will not work with the ipad. you need to find out exactly what the actual wifi password is.
pin and push buttons are used by wifi protected setup. which is an optional feture of WPA
    here are some ideas
go to the routers home page (typically 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254) and see if you can click on "show password"
get the manual out, it should have the default user name and password you may need to access the routers page
if your windows computer connects, then you should be able to right click the wifi connection and click on show password as well. this is somewhere in the properties page of the wifi connection
also with windows its a good idea to click on "save wifi connection to usb drive" this can be used to connect other windows computers and xbox game consoles as well
if your laptop computer is a mac book you can go to the keychain or icloud keycahin and reveal the actual passowrd as well.
look at the actual router it might have directions on a sticker on how to access the routers configuration pages
if you enter the wrong password on the ipad you need to forget the network and try again

  • I updated an iPod touch, an iPad 2, and an iPhone 4 to iOS 6, and all of them now will not connect to WiFi. They all give this wierd 404 error page from Apple and insist that I need to login to the network. Bad job testing the software Apple.

I updated an iPod touch, an iPad 2, and an iPhone 4 to iOS 6, and all of them now will not connect to WiFi. They all give this wierd 404 error page from Apple and insist that I need to login to the network. What's the fix? None of the recommended fixes work in any of these devices. Reset device, reset network, renew lease, etc. None of them work.

    Does the iPod work OK?
Does it charge when connect to the computer?
Does it appear in My Computer?
Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Compare with the iPod that does work/connect.
I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353#iPod_touch_late2009
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

  • TS1398 After updating to ios 6 my iphone 4 would no longer connect to my home wifi. At work we have a free wifi connection that does not require a password. However my wifi at home is password protected. I have the right password. It works on my ipod touc

After updating my iphone 4 with the ios 6 update. My iphone would no longer connect to my home wifi that is password protected. I know that I have the right password entered in. At work we have a free wifi connection that does not require a password and I can connect no problem to it. My ipod touch has no problem connecting to my home wifi. It is a 3rd gen ipod and does not have the ios 6 update on it. Please help!

I'm having the same issues. Started when I upgraded iphone 4S and ipad1 to 5.1.1. Wife's iphone 4g on 4.4.2 has been ok. I've forgot the network on both devices and restored the iphone, none of which changed the issue. I've upgraded to ios 6 on the iphone 4s, problem still persists.
One thing that will help for a time: go to your router and change the wireless control channel. When I first did this I got full connectivity for about 48 hours... and now the problem is back. I'm now changing the wireless control channel every 12 hours, which is a pain but at least keeps me connected. I've tried a few other solutions that are out there and that has been the best one so far.
to do this on a motorola router: type 192.168.0.1 in your address bar.
username: admin and password:motorola if you have not changed the factory defaults.
Click on the word "wireless" and look for the "control channel" field. This may be set to auto or to 1, try changing it to 6 or 11 (preferred) or any other channel.
The control channel can cause static in the wireless system IF there are several networks nearby that are on the default setup.
There is a fair bit of buzz about this issue out there, some other things I've seen:
This is a hardware issue. Go to the store and have your wifi antenna checked, some users reporting that they get free replacement devices.
Check against other wifi networks that require a password (this is next for me). Logon to those networks and surf until your wifi stops. If your wifi connects to the internet but stops responding, then this is a software (or hardware) issue and apple needs to step up. Some are claiming this to be the case.
IF you connect and stay connected/on the internet on another password protected wifi, then the issue is with your router. this is where things get cute.
Comcast may tell you to update your firmware. Motorola may tell you that your cable provider is the only one who can push through firmware updates. Comcast may tell you that you are not in an area that is being updated. It's unclear if they say that to all customers, or just those who have purchased cable modems and aren't renting them from comcast.
Good luck, more to come if I figure out anything else, and please post any solutions you may find.

  • Ipod Touch 4G unable to connect to WiFi

Have been trying to connect to home WiFi for few hours but with no success. The Ipod keeps telling me that I do not have the right password, but i am sure the password is correct as I had connected successfully my Iphone 4 with the same password.
I've read some of the postings. Is there a inherent problem with Ipod's iOS4 to connect to WiFi ?
I have tried the following with no success:
    a. Reboot your router (unplug it from its power source)
    b. Reset the touch network settings - tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Setting
    c. When the touch restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > Other and log onto your network by re-entering your network name, security setting, network password.
Any other suggestions to resolve this problem ?

Since your iPhone 4 has connected, your iOS iPod touch should connect as well. It's the same OS. The steps you followed (mine, btw) generally fix most WiFi issues but not all and, with so little information about your network setup, it's hard to say what is going on.
So please, some details about your network:
    Router make/model
    Encryption used
    SSID hidden or visible
    DHCP on or off
Since passwords are case sensitive, could it be that you forget to capitalize some characters in your password?
Also, you could have a hardware problem with your touch (which generation, btw?). To rule out hardware problems, reset your encryption to none and see if it will connect.
