I am using InDesign CS5. I have a body of text which is ranged left with tabbed indents. My client now wants the copy to be justifed, keeping the tabbed indents. Help and advice needed please!

That screen grab helps a lot. There’s a much easier way of doing what you’re doing.
Remove all your tabs and set the text in justified paragraphs.
I’ve typed in dummy text in the example I made below, but after “19.1” put in a space and put your blinking cursor after the space and before the ’N’ of ‘Notices'.
Then hold down the Command key and hit Backspace (on Mac at least - it’s the key between the Inverted commas/ apostrophe key and the return key).
The text will jump into place the way you want it to.

PS You can set a tab, instead of using a space, in the description I gave above. So, after 19.1 or 19.2 or 19.185 etc etc insert a tab, then hit the Command Backspace after every paragraph number and they'll all line up exactly together. You'll find that editing text within the paragraphs
after you've set it will be LOADS easier this way.
You can put the tab anywhere you want it to be using 'Command-ShiftT' and putting a 'left align' tab just after the number. Just type the Command Backspace after the paragraph number and it'll work

Help and advice needed please

Hi all, had a moving home 12 days ago, my ip profile is 56.56 but I only get a average of 25mb throughput on Ethernet. I also wanted a data extension but the subby made a right mess of my wall and the data ext kills my bb when connected, so I have had to completely remove it and buy a long white Ethernet lead. The subcontractor left the bt socket off the wall, holes in my fresh painted skirting board as he didn't want to get his drill so tried to mount on the skirting, also tried to mount the modem on skirting! . He said do I want to mount it all!? I said yes due to the mess he was making of my new house. I'm field staff for a rival company so the mounting was no problem. But what he did do was use telco wire from x2 terminals from the I plate I think it's called to data socket. When ethernet plugged into socket my bb drops? Hence I had to take it away. When he left I was getting approx 40 meg throughput, this has dropped to 25 ish since. My brass rate is still 56.56 dropped from 58mbps. I have made good his damage so won't raise a claim. But if anyone could offer advice, that would be great. I would also like to communicate with a moderator if poss? Thanks

Job Interview - Help and Advice Needed

Hi all,
This may seem like a strange request for help but I'm completely stuck. I've just completed a Computer Science degree and have applied for a Junior Developer role at an Insurance company. I was lucky enough to get an interview which is this Thursday. Which is great, but not so great!
The interview is a 45 minute programming exam and the only instructions I get up until the exam are;
As an overview - it will require you to write some software using a language of your choice to interrogate a database and manipulate the data.
Now I'm not the greatest programmer (strange considering I'm applying for a Junior Developer role, but a jobs a job right?!) and during my degree I never used any language other than SQL/Oracle to interrogate databases. I've said that I'll be attempting the task with Java (as its the language I know best) However - I'm not sure where to start looking to get myself up to speed.
Could some of you be so kind as to point me in the right direction of where to start looking? What classes should I focus on? Am I right in thinking I would need to use DTOs? Am I asking the right questions?!
I don't hold out much hope for the interview but I'll be going for the experience at least - but if any of you could offer any advice on what I should revise before hand I would be forever greatful.

With only 45 minutes, I assume the task will be pretty narrowly defined. My experience is that new developers out of CS majors (myself included) tend to over-design things. Given the short amount of time, I would suggest not trying to impress them with your knowledge of patterns unless they make the task easier to finish in the allotted amount of time. Focus on completely the task(s) successfully. That's going to be a lot more impressive unfinised work. 45 minutes is going to blow by, so don't get too fancy. In addition, if you over do the design, a lot of experienced developers will not look upon it kindly. Keep it simple and correct.

Help and Advice needed to open ports

I have a BT HomeHub. I also use a Vodafone Sure Signal box in order to be able to receive messages on my mobile at home. The box is not connecting to the internet and Vodafone says i need to open the following ports
8, 50, 500, 4500 and 123
I have no idea where to even begin. Please can someone advise me?

Putting movies on the web for download - help and advice needed

Hello everybody,
I'm not sure whether this is the right place for this question, but here's hoping...
I've produced an hour long DVD on the history of my car club. I have produced the DVD using iMovie and iDVD, and it's fine.
We will be having a number of these DVDs produced, but we also want to offer the movie as a download on our website. Of course this needs to be compressed, but what I want to be able to do is offer the user a file that will burn them a DVD with chapter markers etc, just like the DVD I have, in one operation - a straightforward duplicate. I also want to be able to let them download a label and jewel case insert and offer a complete package.
Is an easy duplicate like this possible, and what sort of file size would the compressed item be? As the DVD is close to capacity, I assume the original will be around 4.7 Gb. There are also some jpegs on the DVD as extras.
Certainly, it would be desirable for the user to play it on their computer, but the main aim is to get a disc TV ready (in the PAL format).
I know you can download movies from the web, and I've downloaded trailers onto my iPod and played them back on a 32" TV and they're excellent. What I don't know is what software will do this. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

I suppose you could put up a 4 something gigabyte DVD disk image up somewhere on the web, but I wouldn't want to try and download it! Do you have a site available with this kind of storage and download bandwidth?
Normally, the things I've seen on the web are reduced in image size to something like 320x240 - this reduces the file size to 1/4 the full size file.
For Apple users, H.264 gives a pretty compact file with decent quality, but I'm not sure many PC users would be able to use it. In any event, people couldn't make a DVD with chapters without extra work.
You could get QuickTime Pro and try converting the movie (or a part of it anyway) to H.264 (or 'regular' mpg-4) see how it looks.

You can't move "that" folder.
But do you currently have your SMS messages as a part of the overall main Messages folder?
If you want to move THOSE to a separate SMS folder... Go to your main Messages folder and select Options > Inbox Management > and UNcheck the "Text Messages" options to create a disinct folder for SMS.

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. But you'll still need the password.
Once you have the computer authorized to use the account she could change the password again to stop you buying apps on her card (assuming it's not on yours!). It would lock you out of upgrading them too but they should work unless she uses the deathorize all feature.
It depends on how amicable the split is...

AXT fonts don't work well in new versions of InDesign. Your best bet would be to replace the font with a Unicode compliant OpenType font. I believe there are a few Arabic fonts that are included with InDesign that would work.

I believe there are a couple of similar threads about CC or CC2014 behaving this way that might give yo some hints, but CS5 is not supported on your OS and may not run properly regardless of what you do. An in-place OS upgrade or an attempt to migrate the application would both be major problems for ID, so if you did either of those things you'll want to uninstall, run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) and reinstall.

(InDesign CS5) I have created hundreds of InDesign documents incorporating images stored on an external USB connected drive. I did a manual back-up to another drive at regular intervals but far from ideal.
I now have a network drive which is properly backed-up. I have copied all of the images and folder structure from the USB connected drive to this new drive.
My question is how I get all of the links in my indd files to point to the new drive. I am aware how to do it one file at a time, but is there a way of doing the same thing over many files/folders at a time?

It depends on how you organize your work. If you have one folder for images for a document, relinking one image should alert you that other missing images are in the same folder, but this assumes that images are missing. If the links window sees a clear path to the original location of the images, they aren't missing, so that won't work.
Another thing to try is to select all of the images in the links window and go to the fly-out menu and select Relink To Folder (navigate to the new folder, and you don't even have to select any images by name).
If you store your images in many different folders for the same document, you might want to either package the document to copy all of the images into one folder (you can specify to only copy images if you like) or use the fly-out in the links window (Utilities>Copy Links To…) and select or create a new images folder.

Is it possible to install/use InDesign CS5 with an InDesign CC subscription?

I need to use InDesign CS5. From the trial, I'm taken to a purchase page where the only option is to buy the CC subscription. After removing the trial and running the CS cleaner to get rid of everything and running the CC installer, it downloads InDesign CS6.

We have built an InDesign plugin that need to be tested against CS5.
If it's impossible to use CS5 with a CC account, why is that the only option you're given when you click 'Buy Now' in CS5?

I have just taken the bold leap into Indesign and this is the first day of my 30 day trial.
I need help and advice from you good poeple...please.
I have been successfully creating A5 booklets (folded A4) using MS Word and printing to a desktop printer. MS Word sorted out my page order for me at printing time so the correct pages were put together.
I have been reading as much information as I could find but I am still unable to do the same in Indesign.
I'm looking forward to using the advanced layout features and having control over what I do but, I need to work out this basic step before I go any further.
I hope what I have explained makes sense.

So presumably you create a new document, A5 portrait, facing pages. Make sure your ducument page count is a multiple of 4.
Create, type, tweak, ponder, edit, smile, save.
To create you booklet using InDesign, from the file menu select Print Booklet.
You will probably need to jump back and forth from the Print Settings button adjusting Paper Size, Orientation, Color, and from the Print Booklet tab set for 2-up Saddle Stitch.
Much has been posted on this topic, these are the basics, Print Booklet is not the best module Adobe ever wrote, IMO
