  • I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and now ALL of my songs sounf d like skipping records.  How do I get rid of this or completely remove the new version that I downloaded???

I booted up my computer and opened up my usual shortcuts.  I got a message from iTunes that a new version was available and would I like to download it.  I clicked on "yes".  It took over 1/2 hour to download and now ALL of my songs sound like a skipping record or like they are tripping over themselves.  I uninstalled the ITunes and tried reinstalling my old version.  I've tried EVERYTHING I could think of to get my old version back but everytime I go through the download process I get a message saying that - the file "iTunes Library.itl "cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.  I was finally able to download a version that will open but it has the same "skipping" problem.  How do I stop/fix this or COMPLETELY get rid of this version of iTunes and re-download what I had???  I'm REALLY distressed.      Jim

Usually, the exclamation mark tells you that the song was not where the program expected to find it. It may also mean that there was an error with the file itself.
If you click on the exclamation mark, it may give you a reason. You can also double click the file to make it play. If the file is not found, it will tell you. Just follow the prompts to look for the song again. It will ask you if you want to look for the other missing songs in the same folder. You can do it, but unfortunately, the last few updates have made the program blind to the songs that are there and you sometimes have to do the same process for each song.
If neither of these help, I would suggest starting from scratch and reinstalling iTunes. I have had to do that before. Do your best to back up the library and such first.
Sometimes a computer will rename a hard disk (Windows) and all the songs on that disk will be gone to iTunes because it will think it's looking in the right place. It can't recognize that the hard disk or partition has been renamed.
I know that this is a podcast, but the principle is the same. A dialogue box should pop up to tell you just what the problem is.
       I hope this helps!

Apple's official advice on duplicates is here... HT2905: How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning
to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.

  • I changed my ITUNES login and now all my older songs cannot be played.

So i changed my login (email address) and frankly deleted it entirely bc I got a divorce and it had my married name in the email. So i went through all the process of changing my email and also my itunes account login, and everything. Also...i changed jobs, and so I cannot access my itunes from that computer. THANKFULLY I backed up all my itunes from that OLD login. But when i downloaded it to my new computer it shows up but an error pops up and says...I am not authrized to play this song from this computer and shows my email and asks for my password and when i put it in it doesnt work. I reactivated my old email address but its still not working. WHAT SHOULD I DO? I have literally tried EVERYTHING!

*So i changed my login (email address)*
So you created a new iTunes account?
No need and probably shouldn't do that. You can update everything with your new info. However, the songs you previously purchased are still going to use the old login to authorize them.
If you select one, right click - get info, you need to use the AppleID that is shown on the Info tab.
But when i downloaded it to my new computer it shows up but an error pops up and says...I am not authrized to play this song from this computer and shows my email and asks for my password and when i put it in it doesnt work. I
Are you using the old email address and the old password?

  • HT1766 itunes does not recognize my iphone. i can only access my pictures and now all my personal songs i copied from my cds are missing from my phone too.  I have tried reinstalling itunes to no avail. went to the apple store Genius bar who couldnt figur

Help, I have tried all the things I can to get my phone to sync with my computer.

I have already tried that a dozen times.  Did also reset Apple Support on control panel.  It is just stuck and plain "ruined".  I am so frustrated I am this close to returning my iPhone 4S and get a metro PCS!  I have an impression there is some code/bug issue with the new OS upgrade that doesn't match with 3G/3GS.  I guess Apple OS developers don't care about how the "lowly" consumers -- those who cannot afford to buy every single new model they roll out --  might feel about their "upgrades"...  I understand you're a Jobs fan (from your user ID), but this is not the first time I see this kind of so-called-upgrade crashes otherwise perfectly well-functioning older machines.  (There are obviously plenty of 3G/3GS users experiencing this kind of problem) If this is Apple's marketing strategy to force frustrated conumers to go out and buy a newer model, I am completely turned off by Apple.  It's not that I'm in love with Android or Windows.  iPhone is a good product.  But it's the Apple's technical service/back up for regular joes out there -- not techies/engineers -- who cannot afford every single model upgrade that really irritates me.

  • HT1711 I have recently upgraded to IOS 7 and now cannot rate my songs in itunes. I single click on the song and hit the applicable dot under ratings which usually then converted to a star. Now it does nothing when I click on the dot. What's wrong?

Since I upgraded to the latest IOS, I cannot get Itunes to rate my songs. My ratings determine which playlist my songs are entered into. For two days, I've tried to rate the last 4 songs I downloaded but when I click on the songs to bring up the 5 little dots, nothing happens when I click on the applicable dot. Normally I get the stars but not now. Can someone tell me what's going on and what I have to do to make rating a song work?  Thank you!

Hey! I downloaded a movie from itunes yesterday. I watched the beginning of it and now i wanna go on, but itunes says that it´s not authorized for this computer. But i watched it on this computer. So, what can i do? thanks!

Log out of the iTunes Store on your device:
Settings>iTunes & App Store...tap your Apple ID, then select "Sign Out"
    Reset your device:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
After the device has restarted, sign back in to the App Store as above.

  • I bought a new laptop with Windows 7. My computer name in Windows has changed, and now, my Ipad can't find Itunes

I bought a new laptop with Windows 7. My computer name in Windows has changed, and now, my Ipad can't find Itunes, and Itunes can't find my Ipad. [email protected]

Ok, if reinstalling iTunes as suggested above does not resolve the issue of iTunes recognising the iPad then try this -
Firstly, make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
Secondly, try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
Thirdly, make sure your lead /connections are no faulty.
Fourthly, if you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.
Failing all that, see here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
And failing all that put the device into Recovery mode. See here and note the paragraph 'If you restore from a different computer.... ' down near the bottom of the page -
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/itunes/
As for making your new laptop your 'home computer' follow these instructions -
    1. Without connecting your iPad to your computer -
    A) Install iTunes / make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed.
    B) Go to the Store tab and click on "Authorise This Computer".
    C) Go to Edit, click on Preferences [iTunes and Preferences on Macs] and click on Devices. Put a check mark in the box next to "Prevent  iPods/iPhones/iPads from syncing automatically". Click OK and close iTunes.
    2.  Connect your iPad to your computer -
    A) Start iTunes (it will not start automatically because of the action at 1(C) above).
    B) Right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select "Transfer purchases".
    C) When the transfer has completed, right click on your iPad again and select "Backup".
    D) When the backup has completed, left click on your iPad, click on the Apps tab, and put a check mark in the box next to "Sync Apps", and then click on "Apply" (bottom right).
    E) Unless you want to always do a manual sync (as I do), go back to Edit, Preferences [iTunes and Preferences on Macs] and uncheck the box next to "Prevent your iPod.....".
    F) Finally, on your iPad, check that everything is syncing properly. If not, go back to iTunes and check all settings.
NB You should not lose any apps. However, any 'purchased' missing apps can be downloaded again FOC. As with updates, this must be done with the Apple ID under which they were originally 'purchased'.
