I can't compose a new e-mail....

Hi All,
It's kind of odd....I'm unable to compose a new e-mail message from my personal computer, but I'm able to do it on a different computer. So, I can only assume that there's something messed up with the environment on my personal computer.....Problem is, I haven't the slightest clue where to start looking.....I called the company that provided me with the e-mail account and they were worthless.
Please let me konw what other information you would need.
thanks

Composing an email has nothing to do with sending it. The first is just
a simple off-line activity while the second activity involves an smtp server.
Ping that server and see if it's up and running; if not contact your ISP or
whatever offers you an smtp server.
kind regards,
Jos
ps. and where does Java come in here?

  • How can I create a new E-mail address for the Marketing Manager

    Hullo,
how can I create a new E-mail address for the Marketing Manager (i.e. marketing professional role in SAP CRM) please.
That when you go and create a new E-mail campaign you need to choose an E-mail form in addition to the E-mail address of the Marketing Manager.

  • Can't compose, reply or forward mail in 10.7.3

After installing the 10.7.3 update I'm no longer able to compose a new email, reply to an email or forward an email.  When I press those buttons nothing happens.  Before 10.7.3 (ie yesterday) they worked fine.  All other email functions appear to be working (such as creating a new note and fetching or moving emails.)
I've installed the combo pack, that didn't work.  Then I tried re-installing Lion via Lion Recovery.  Neither of these has fixed my problem.
I also did a disk permission repair.
Now I'm getting desperate.  Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now. If you skip this step, no one but you will be responsible for the consequences.
Select all your mailboxes, and then select Mailbox ▹ Export Mailbox from the Mail menu bar. Export the mailboxes to the Desktop folder.
Make a note of the settings for all your Mail accounts -- everything you'd need to reconstruct the settings from scratch. Quit Mail.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the menu bar. Move the following items from the folder that opens to the Trash (some may not exist):
    Caches/com.apple.mail
    Saved Application State/com.apple.mail.savedState
Leave the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch Mail. If the problem is solved, you’re done. Delete the exported mailboxes. Otherwise, quit Mail and move these items from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
    Mail
    Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.mail.searchhistory.plist
(Note: you are not moving the Mail application. You’re moving a folder named “Mail.”)
Relaunch Mail. It will behave as if you were setting it up for the first time. Go through the setup process with one of your accounts, using the information you noted earlier. Test. Same problem?
If there’s no improvement, quit Mail again and put back the items you moved to the Desktop, replacing any newer ones that may have been created in their place. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash.
If the issue is resolved, recreate the rest of your Mail settings, then import your mailboxes, delete the items on the Desktop, and close the Finder window.

  • Can't compose, reply or send mail - but can receive

My software is up to date and I can receive mail, but I select reply and it usually would bring up a new mail window and won't or I try to compose a new email and my mail won't let me even type past the third letter or send/forward/reply to anything.
Worked yesterday fine - the only thing I did was delete some fonts, but replaced them and restarted and mail still won't work - but I can receive and all of my other programs are uneffected.

This problem in Mail is usually caused by some Launch Services cache or preferences corruption that affects the built-in spell checker. The following article describes how to manually reset Launch Services — the notes at the bottom of the article also provide information about the side effects of deleting each of the files involved:
    Resetting Launch Services
If you prefer using a cache cleaning utility instead of following the manual procedure described in the previous article, take a look at this other article for general troubleshooting and cache-cleaning procedures. Actually, you should also verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described there:
Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
The most appropriate utility for this particular problem probably is Tiger Cache Cleaner, but you may also want to consider other utilities, such as OnyX, or Cache Out X, which are free. Whatever utility you choose, be sure to read this first:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
As an example, this is how you should proceed with OnyX:
    1. Quit all applications.
    2. Launch OnyX and enter your administrator password.
    3. Go to Maintenance > Reset and check LaunchServices database.
    4. Un-check any other pre-checked options.
    5. Click the Execute button.
    6. Restart the computer.

  • Periodically can't create a new e-mail, or forward, or reply an e-mail.

Can always receive e-mail, but some times clicking on the "NEW", "FORWARD", or "REPLY" buttons has no effect. The LOADING symbol just keeps spinning. Starting a new session doesn't help.

  • I can't compose messages in Apple Mail (Lion)

Since this morning, I cannot create messages or reply messages. It just freeze up and I can't do anything. Everything else works perfectly.

What other troubleshooting have you tried and did you make any changes to your system before you began having the problem? Some basic troubleshooting would be restarting in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one or more has become corrupt.
Also going forward please post in the correct forum. Your profile indicates you have a MacBook Pro, this is an iMac forum.

  • I just installed Firefox 4 and now I'm having problems with my gmail. The cursor seems to "stick" or "jump" when composing a new e-mail (or cutting and pasting text). I want my smooth (and fast) gmail functionality back!

    no additional details

You know, I was thinking if I went ahead and just created a new account, then shipped all my Home folder under the new account and used chown to fix the ownership details, then most likely the problems of my current account would be transferred to the new one.
How about skipping all .plist files and other preferences? What if I only transferred my actual work documents from all software that I use, plus emails and what have you? Would that tend to minimize the chances of problems re-manifesting themselves in the new environment?

On my iphone, when I get into Messages, I see a list of message thread names and at the top right is an icon with a square and pencil coming out of it.  If I tap it, I can begin composing a new message with having to deal with any others.
If on your screen you see one or more message "bubbles", then press the "Messages" button at the upper left to go back to the home page for messages.  There you can tap the compose icon.

  • Cannot reply to or compose new e-mails messages.

I recently had to rebiuld my computer due to virus and everyhting was wiped out.  I am using Windows XP.  For some reason I cannot ly to a message set to me nor can I compose a new message from scratch.  All other websites work fine and I wa susing the same XP for the past 2 years I have been using Verizon DSL.  I have the latest IE 8 installed and am running Java and Flash.
Overseas tech support told me to reset my internet settings and that doesn't fix it.  They then told me that my browser is bad.  How can it be when I am using the updated one?
This address is for my freelance work and I cannot be down like this much longer.  Any help wpould be appreciated.

There is no error.  Everything locks up.  I tried using the account on another computer and it works fine.  What plug-ins are required for it to work?

  • Compose and read e-mail simultaneously...Is it possible

Hello, I'm new to Verizon e-mail and I'm use to having my  (In-box) e-mail open while composing a new e-mail.  I like to go back and forth.  For example I might want to copy and paste from several e-mails onto one.  I know I can save as a "Draft" but would rather simply click and go back and forth.  Is it possible to have more than one window open at the same time?

See my reply in your other thread for a work around to do what you want.

  • Adding a new e-mail account

Can I add a new e-mail account just to send or forward out messages?  The reason of this is that I do not want these messages downloaded off the server.  I use another (non BB) e-mail client that accesses this account and I want the mail to go there.  When I tried to add this account with a dummy password, BB could not verify it and would not let me add it.  Is there a work around?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi there!
If I am understanding you correctly, you want to be able to send from an email account on your BB, but not receive from that account on the BB. If so, then don't use a dummy password. Rather, configure the account properly but then set the default filter to "Do Not Forward" and then nothing will come down to the BB from the Server.

  • New iMac, migrated from macbook and now mail won't work. Tried re-installing operating system, still doesn't work. Can anyone help me to get mail working? thanks

I just bought a new iMac and I thought that it would be simple to migrate from my MacBook.
I have a time machine back-up so I decided to migrate using that. Everything seemed to instal pretty well with the exception of mail.  To begin with I had 2 mail icons, then I started to read some forums and checked that i had the one I wanted in the applications folder, deleted the other and then downloaded the new operating system.  Mail had to be force quit first and even when the download was complete Mail still wouldn't open or run. The only thing I can do is compose a new message, but I can't see my inbox at all.
It's really frustrating and I would love to know in a simple step by step guide how to get mail up and running with my existing migrated emails in it.
If anyone can give me some advice that would be great.
    thanks in advance.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    First, empty the Trash.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "41." Please post it in a reply.

  • When composing a new message in mail on OS X 10.9.2, is there a way to change the "sending" account on a per-message basis?

I just got a new MacBook Pro and when composing a new message, I can no longer choose which e-mail account I want to use for the new message.  It also does not show which account I'm using in the e-mail composition panel.  Is there a way to fix this?

Click on the pull down window next to From: and you should be able to select the individual account you want to send from.  The account that you want to send from must be an Enabled account in the Account Preferences of Mail.
