I can't fax anymore using Fax STF 5.1 in Classic 9.2.1

I have always been able to fax by way of my Epson Stylus Scan 2000. I just reinstalled all the software and upgraded my G3 computer to 10.1.5. When in Classic, I now can't fax. The icon in the Fax Monitoring screen is a serial port. I checked everything to make sure that the modem selected is not a pinter port. Everything selected says internal modem port. So my question is why can't I fax and how can I change the serial port icon to a phone modem icon.

Leslie,
Sorry for the confusion...I just wanted to make sure what OS you had booted. When OSX is the booted OS, and OS 9.x is also running inside OSX so you can still use 9.x applications, "Classic" is the term used to describe 9.x.
It has been too long since I have worked with 9.x to be helpful without doing some homework, so I would head over to the MacOS 9 Discussions for some excellent help.

  • Low fax quality using fax as a system printer

    1. The fax quality and resolution using the original setup as a printer is very low.
    I can't see the reason because it's all done without printing, a digital file format tranforming.
    2. How can I approach the fax manager not when printing a new fax?

    Hey there @Kroi!
    Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
    I would be happy to provide some help regarding your Officejet 4500 and the fax resolution.  On the printer you should be able to set the fax resolution to fine or very fine and make the fax lighter or darker.  Once those settings are inputted you should be able to save them as a default on the printer.
    To change the fax settings press the fax icon on the printer.  In the fax menu you should be able to scroll to fax resolution and press OK.  Under fax resolution you should be able to choose from fine, very fine, photo and standard.  I recommend choosing fine or very fine.  You should then be able to scroll to lighter/darker to adjust those settings.  Once the settings are set scroll to "Set New Default and confirm.
    Test by sending a fax and see how it goes!
    Thanks again for posting and have a great day!

    How can I use the fax function on my i Mac with OSX 10.8.2?
    1. I am using fax machine Epson Syylu Office TX510FN which has PC-Fax function, but support OSX 10.7.
    2. Which Fax machine type has a soft ware can back up OSX 10.8.2?

    Are you saying the fax features no longer work in Mountain Lion?  That would surprise me; I wouldn't think Apple would have done non-backward-compatible changes to the built-in drivers.
    First thing I'd try is to redo the stylus setup: connect it by usb (if it's not already so connected) and run through the setup procedure.  you might also try downloading the OS X drivers from the Epson website; they claim it should work on 10.3+

  • Using VoIP and can not send or receive fax. I am now also having problem scanning

    I use VoIP for phone service. I can not send or receive faxes although the Fax Test Report Pass. Now I am having problem scanning. My main concern is with faxing.

    Hi,
    This won't work for analog fax. You need a normal analog telephone line to fax this way. Please check the following article:

  • Using built in Fax modem to fax out

    I'm going start this by saying... Only if Macos X had a proper Chooser like function like classic Mac OS, and that the new Macos X help system is not as good as Apple Guide of Classic (disappointing seeing X was the meant to be the be all end all of all operating systems)...
    But anyways, seeing that I have an iMac at work that only boots up in X I have been struggling to get the send/receive faxs from the computer.
    I have diagramed the partial setup I have and wish to use the built in Modem that's inside the iMac Flat 17" G4 version to send receive Faxes.
    Here is the scenario.
    - I have a setup consisting of iMac G4 with X.10
    - I have a managed to see outside world via ADSL hookup
    - The ADSL line and the Fax line are two different numbers
    - Currently Only the Fax is connected directly to the Fax point, I need to also link up the Mac to the same point. Is there a splitter for such a thing?
    - I have set up the Fax so I can actually print from the Mac to it
    - I have set up the Fax so I can only send/receive faxes from/to the cannon
    - I have set up the printer/fax Preferences so to receieve fax that are based on the Fax point # and the the check box is check for allow to receieve faxes
    - I have FAXstf installed on my machine, does it conflict with the new System Faxing properties found in X.10?
    - I followed the directions presented to me from the Help docos, and the system always told me, 'Fax will be transmitted after disconnecting from Network', and it never did anything.
    What are the correct procedures to follow in order to get this thing to work? Images would be nice... Reading docos isn't my thing, they remind me of the online help which MS has in place for all their applications... Web Docs is not as intuitive as guiding a user through the process like Apple Guide used to do. Just a suggestion to the Apple developers out there;/
    The diagram setup is:
    <pre>
    DATA POINT <------------------> ADSL MODEM <--------> TELEPHONE POINT #1
    ^
    |
    |
    |
    v
    IMAC <------------------> USB HUB <--------> CANAN 850MP MULTI FUNCTIONAL PRINTER
    ^
    |
    v ^
    INTERNAL |
    MODEM |
    ^ |
    | |
    v v
    <-------------------------------------> FAX POINT #2
    </pre>
    hope the above isn't hard to understand.
    Cheers

    I need the dedicated fax line due to the security system using the phone line, and that the fax should be used for faxing and telephones used for talking, unlike the previous guys comments... POTS means nothing!... People still fax you know, just like they still print... and gee the printer has been around for a little while longer than fax
    But anyways... I tried to do the Fax PDF, and thats where it gets stuck... it tries to ring out but no can do. I tried this using a direct link from Mac to Fax point. Seeing that it didn't work I then hooked back the MFM to the fax point in order for the company to receive/send faxes at least from the machine.
    The only reason as to my enquiry in the discussion forum is to see if I can set it up so both the MFM (fax) and the imac can send/receieve faxes at the same time or seperately. It would be beneficial to receive and send from the imac, as I'm sure we all know that printing out documents can get lost, especially when you just have one copy, and so this would at least keep an electronic copy of the item. However, during the evenings, it would be ok to have the fax machine recieves faxes or have the fax machine send faxes during the times when the computer can't. The imac is an administrative computer and at times the engineering guys need someting quick, but whats to say that the administration lady can't do it at that point in time... then they need to fax it.
    The point is, is there a device which I can hook up so that the 56k fax/modem device in the imac and the MFM (fx) can go through the same point?
    thanks

  • How can I get rid of Fax tone on Mac Mini

    Hi Guys. I have joined especially to sort out a problem with my Mac Mini, which I admit was entirely my fault.
    I tried to set up faxing through the mini, now I can't turn off the annoying fax tones.
    If anyone can help please do so it's driving me CRAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZY

    Patrick, thanks for the additional information.
    As far as I know, the only PPC Minis that had build-in telephone&fax modems were the following:
    Rev. A (January '05)
    * 1.25 GHz G4, Combo Drive, 40 GB Hard Drive (4,200rpm), 56k modem, 256 MB RAM, 32MB ATI Radeon 9200
    * 1.42 GHz G4, Combo Drive, 80 GB Hard Drive (4,200rpm), 56k modem, 256 MB RAM, 32MB ATI Radeon 9200
    Rev. B (July '05)
    * 1.25 GHz G4, Combo Drive, 40 GB Hard Drive (4,200rpm), 56k modem, 512 MB RAM, 32MB ATI Radeon 9200
    Rev. C (Sept '05)
    * 1.33 GHz G4, Combo Drive, 40 GB Hard Drive (5,400rpm), 56k modem, 512 MB RAM, 32MB ATI Radeon 9200
    Since your Mini has a 1.5GHz G4 PPC processor, I'm assuming it does not have a built-in telephone/fax connection.
    So my next question is whether you have an external fax modem of some sort? Apple sold one, and I'm sure other companies did as well.
    If you don't have a fax modem, then it would be helpful to know what instructions you followed for setting up the sending and receiving of faxes.
    If you don't have fax hardware, it seems that either you applied instructions that couldn't work with your hardware (because you don't have hardware fax capabilities) -- or alternatively you installed some sort of "virtual fax" software that allows you to receive faxes from some fax server on the internet. We need more clarification from you on this issue.
    I'd also ask that you report what you see at
    Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Users or Accounts -> active login -> Login Items
    as A Brody requested.
    Additionally, under what circumstances do you hear the fax tone -- or is it always present?

  • Can not Turn On Receive Faxes

    Hi There,
    I have a strange faxing issue. I can not turn on receive faxes. I goto the Print and Fax center in System Prefs, click on the external Modem (Apple USB Modem) then "Receive Options". I check "Receive faxes on this computer" then the 1st and 3rd options and click "OK". If I press "Receive Options" again, the check box is uncheck. I've repaired permissions and rebooted and it still does not stay checked. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

    Archive and Install solved the problem. That's what Apple Care suggested.
