I can't locate my catalog in Elements 8.0 to convert to 10.0

I've watched the tutorial to convert my catalog but I don't have anything that remotely resembles the Organizer on my screen.  When I go to File, there is no catalog.  I upgraded to Elements 10.0 and also use Lightroom but chose to maintain Elements to do things that Lightroom can't like layers.  I don't want all the organization that I've done on my old photos to disappear and don't want to import my Lightroom catalog into Elements.  What am I doing wrong?  Where would the Elements catalog file reside on my drive and what would the file extension be?  I did a search on Catalog and came up empty.  I'm using Mac with Lion OS.

Thanks for trying.  I was on a Chat with someone from the Adobe team and I got no help whatsoever.  Basically his response was that I needed to reimport all my phoios.  That means I lose all my keywording and editng.  What's the point?  Ok, I'm just ranting.  Really, thanks for all efforts!
Did you see my remark about Mac PSE8 having Bridge and not Organizer ? Since nobody corrected me, I am confident that you can't find a catalog, which is only an Organizer feature. As far as I know, Bridge does not store your keywords, only thumbnails. So your keywords must have been saved within your media files themselves. That means that if you re-import those files in an Organizer catalog, you'll get them back. The advice to reimport is a sound one.
Just note that with the Organizer, it is a good idea to use the 'Write metadata to files' feature in the file menu, that is an additional way to backup your tagging work and it makes your tagging available to non Adobe softwares.

  • Can't locate Line tool in elements 8

I am trying to find my LINE Tool to draw a line. Can not locate it.  Found the appropriate help item in Adobe help online but I do not have the LINE TOOL icon on my menu task bar. How can I locate it?

None of my flyout menus will fly out. I hover my cursor over the little  black triangle, and nothing happens. I click on the item and then hover my cursor over the little black triangle and nothing happens. I clock directly on the little black triangle and nothing happens.  Is there a setting or something that is preventing me from accessing the hidden menus?

  • Can I move my catalog from  Elements 3.0 (PC) to Elements 12 on my new IMac?

I just bought a new iMac. I have about 3500 pictures on my old PC in Elements PC. They are all tagged. Is there any way I can move this catalog to the iMac?

Buy the boxed version of PSE 12, since that contains both platforms. Then install PSE 12 on your windows machine and upgrade your catalog to PSE 12, then do a full backup to a removable drive (not discs). Install PSE 12 on the mac and restore there.
The mac organizer doesn't understand catalogs from windows version prior to PSE 9, so this is the simplest way.

  • Can't "locate media" in Premiere elements 7

Once i have added and edited few more video clips in my project which i have created earlier, I got following message in preview screen:"Media offline" after saving project and restarting the program. The message appears only to those clips that i have added and edited last. Earlier added clips works well. I added video clips normally by clicking "file" and "get media from.." "pc files and folders" Original clips are on my computers hard drive. When i select the clip from "edit" and "project" and try to use "locate media" button it stays grey so i can't press that button. I'm sure that video clips stays in same place on my hard drive so they could be located very easily if only the program lets me to do that. Program don't let me locate any media. Even the clips which are showing in preview. But the video is showing in another kind of preview window when i double-klick on "media offline" clip in time line. Is this somekind of bug or is the problem in the user? I'm very disappointed if i wasted money to program that doesn't work.

  • Using Adobe Photoshop Elements 7, Recovered photos through Carbonite but can't find the catalog,Please help ......

I have tried everything I know, but can't locate the catalog- I do not know where it is or what it would be named or what carbonite would call it. Also, the photos are not at the "same" location. I have over 22,000 photos and can't imagine trying to re-catalog. It is my life and of course, I need something immediately for a family funeral. Not to be too dramatic.... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Try the Elements forum.
    Photoshop Elements
Photoshop Extended doesn't use catalogs.  But I'm guessing your catalog information was contained in a data or xml file.

  • How do I add lightning effects to movies?  I know they were in 12 but I can't find them in adobe elements 13

I am trying to add this effect and can't locate it.

    gikddragib15
    Premiere Elements 13/13.1 Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit
    Expert workspace
fx Effects Tab at bottom of Expert workspace
    Advanced Effects
    Lighting Effects
And then, to edit the effect, see Applied Effects Tab/Applied Effects Palette/Lighting Effects Panel expanded.
Also, see Adjust Tab/Adjustments Palette/Lighting Panel expanded (including More button options....in the screenshot below, I have clicked on More so that is why you see Less instead of More button)
The above Lighting effects are in 12/12.1 as well as 13/13.1.
Please let us know if you find Lighting in the places cited above.
    Thank you.

  • New pe9 elements can not import pe6 catalog

I just purchased Photoshop Elements 9 and Premiere elements 9. I insstalled elements 9 to a win 7 system with no problem. I can not import my PE6 catalog to pe9.
in the pe6 catalog manage the catalog is located in " catalog accessable by all users" I did run repair in the manager and was told it was not needed would I like to index any how ? I did. I also optimized it.
The catalog still did not appear in the pe9 catalog manager. pe9 will not be of use if the 9000 photos from pe6 can not be imported?
    HELP
    Can this be fixed?

You can do that by clicking File à Get Photos & Videos à From Files & Folder
Then navigate to Pictures or My pictures and press Ctrl+A to select all sub folders, then click Get media or open.
That will import everything from the pictures folders but if you want all your key words and albums etc you need to convert the catalog.

  • Can't upgrade catalog from Elements 8 -thinks photos are on backup drive...

I've just bought LR3 (and upgraded to latest 3.2 release), and now I want to import all my photos from my Elements 5 collection (just over 10,000 photos - mostly RAW). All the photos are actually stored on a network share from my Windows Home Server machine, all accessible as \\home-server\photos\. Elements 5 has no problems with accessing them this way, and I can also access them fine from Lightroom, but I obviously want to retain all my keywording.
As there doesn't appear to be any way to upgrade a PSE5 catalog to LR3, I followed a recommendation I found on this forum (I think), and have downloaded a trial of PSE8. I have successfully upgraded a copy of the PSE5 catalog to PSE8 format, and then view them all in PSE8, so step one is a success. When I launched LR3, it then gave me a new option to upgrade an Elements catalog - this was a step forward. So, I took the option to upgrade the PSE8 catalog to LR, but after attempting it I see a window that says:
"Lightroom has successfully upgraded one Photoshop Elements catalog photo, but was unable to upgrade 10729 additional photos because the photos were moved to inaccessible Photoshop Elements backup drives. If you wish to manage the Photoshop Elements backup photos in Lightroom, please use Lightroom to import images from the following Photoshop Elements backup discs."
The photos are most definitely not on "backup drives". I've never backed up photos from Elements (my backups are done separately from my Home Server). Lightroom can see the relevant shares, as I've imported a few photos directly onto that share from a card reader, and have also imported some photos on there in a "leave in place", but (as they are RAWs) I don't get any keywording this way.
I'd be most grateful for any suggestions, especially as I won't be able to do anything in PSE8 when my trial runs out....

Thanks for that - that certainly agrees with my findings so far.
Do I take it you've had this confirmed by someone from Adobe then? Is it an intended limitation, or just an acknowledged bug?
I really hope it isn't an intended limitation, as it would mean that this high cost professional-targeted app (LR3) is not capable of something that the consumer level one (PSE8) does with ease. Surely it isn't that unusual to store your photos on a network drive.....
If this isn't likely to be fixed soon I guess I'll have to :
Backup (network drive based) photos and catalog
Use PSE8 to move the whole directory tree to internal hard drive
    Upgrade PSE8 catalog in LR3
Use LR3 to move the whole directory tree back to the network drive
Not ideal, but it should get the job done...
Yes, confirmed by Adobe.  It's a design limitation *of the PSE upgrader*.  You can use LR3 to store images on a network drive, you just can't store the catalog there.  I don't expect this to be fixed soon, so I'd go with the workaround if I were you.
I'm not storing my catalog on the network drive though, just my photos. Even with the catalog on an internal drive, LR3 still fails to upgrade any photos that are on a network drive.
I have though now spoken to a helpdesk chap at Adobe, and he has confirmed that Lightroom is not able to upgrade photos on a network drive. Seems like a really poor show to me, but I don't suppose I can do much about it...

  • Can't locate catalog location on disk - PSE8

I am in the process of upgrading to PSE9 from PSE8.  The catalog conversion failed.  I wanted to make a copy of my catalog - then clean it up before converting again.  I cannot find the catalog location.  Is there any way in the registry or otherwise to locate my catalog?  Windows 7.  I have checked the information on this FAQ here - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/515/cpsid_51536.html#main_location and it doesn't help me find the catalog.  Thanks.

What happens if you go to Help>System Info in the Organizer? Isn't it listed there?

  • Changed file location in catalog to backup drive location

    Photoshop Elements 6 (20070910.r.377499)
I do not know why the catalog has changed the file location of "ALL" pictures to the location on my backup drive.
    Example: K:\My Documents\My Pictures\Pets\PICT1460-1.JPG
The actual location of the original photo is:  D:\My Documents\My Pictures\Pets\PICT1460-1.JPG
The location of "My Pictures" is on my primary Hard Drive D:\My Documents\My Pictures\
Why is Photoshop changing all of my 37,000+ photo thumbnails to point to my Backup Drive K:\?
I need to correct the catalog file. How do I make the correction and stop it from happening in the future?

I use a backup program, Retrospect 7.6, that copies selected files from my primary drive, D:\ and some from C:\ and copies them to my backup drive K:\ every night at midnight. The files are all there but I want to catalog to point to the original location on the D: drive. Can I change the catalog to reflect the original file location? I would like to have the flexibility to move the backup file location but now I HAVE TO KEEP MY PICTURES ON THE K: Drive.
Also when new pictures show up, the program looks for them on the K: Drive.

Yes - I can run both versions on my PC.  But I really would like to have all of my pictures in the same catalog.
You can't merge catalogs (even PSE13 ones) in any PSE version (only LR can do that). So, converting catalogs is not the solution to your problem.
Since you have PSE5 working on your computer and your images also, the solution is to 'write metadata to files in PSE5) and to re-import the images in the PSE13 catalog. That won't duplicate your image files and you'll lose albums/collections, stacks and version sets, but you'll recover tags, captions and ratings.
To be able to re-import the files indexed in PSE5, you may have to move them to a new master folder.
I am not sure what your problem with the conversion may be. It's quite possible that the resulting catalog.pse13db is ok and that the issue lies in the ability to open it in the PSE13 organizer.
As stated by dj_page, double clicking on that file should open the organizer with the new catalog. You could test that by creating a dummy catalog in PSE13 and importing a small batch of photos. Locate the path of the catalog with the menu Help/system info. Copy the catalog.pse13db in another folder and the 'double click' way to open the organizer with that moved catalog database.

  • How can I recover my Catalog?

I lost my hard drive and my backup drives.  I paid to have my hard drive recovered to a new external drive. I have purchased a new PC and reinstalled Photshop Elements 7.0.  I recovered my pictures.  How can I copy my catalog files from the data they restored for me to my new PC?  What are the files I need to copy and where are they?  I have 7 years worth of data.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!  It worked.  In my first attempt, I went to the wrong location and copied my old Catalog from Version 5 of Photoshop  Elements.  I read all of the instructions carefully this morning, and discovered that Version 7 stored the Catalog in a different location.  Therefore I went to  C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\ Photoshop Elements \Catalogs\My Catalog and copied everything in My Catalog, on my recovered drive, to the same location on my new PC.  I opened Photoshop Elements 7, and it worked.  All of my Catalog entries, Tags, etc. were there.  Case closed.  It is easy when you do it right.  Thanks again.  This is my first experience using a forum and it was a life saver.
One other mistake I made was choosing a different account name on my new PC.  Because the account name is part of the path, for example C:\Documents and Settings\Karl Johnson\My Documents\My Pictures, I had to go back to my old account name.  (I thought I would shorten it from Karl Johnson to Karl but I had to change it back.)
