I can't scan after upgrading my iMac to OS X Yosemite

Hi, I have an iMac and I  upgraded to Yosemite yesterday. Ever since the upgrade my printer won't scan. I can still print, but when I go to the HP Scan logo in my applications and try to scan, I get this error:
The scan cannot be performed because another program has control of the HP imaging device.  Try the following steps.  After each step, try scanning again.
- Restart the program.
- Close all programs that may be using the device.
- Reboot the computer.
I have tried everything - closed all programs, restarted my computer, uninstalled HP, install HP drivers, but with no luck. Before upgrading to Yosemite it worked perfectly.
My printer is: HP Deskjet F4180.
I would appreciate any help I can get to resolve this.
Thanks in advance!
Sharon

  • No more scanning after upgrading to MacOS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"

Hi, I've got a HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 (N911a)--connected via ethernet adapter to my LAN--which worked just like a charm up to MacOS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"); printing, scanning, faxing: no hassle there! Since upgrading to MacOS X 10.10 ("Yosemite") I can't scan anything anymore, I'm kept being told that no scanner is available, albeit the printer is still working. Btw. the fax has disappeared as well. Scouting The Net, digging up various bits & bobs were to no avail.  Any ideas who to resolve this one? - M.

Hi   I would like to help you scan from your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 (N911a) to your newly upgraded mac OS X. Please complete the following steps and let me know the outcome of your efforts; Reset Printing SystemClick the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences. In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…Click OK to confirm the reset.Type the correct Name and Password.Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selectedNote: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol. Repair Disk PermissionsOn the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.Double-click Disk Utility.Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.  Once the repair is complete, restart the computer and download and install the HP Printer Drivers for OS X.  Now when you add the printer, you should have the HP driver to choose. If for any reason your printer driver is not there, then select the AirPrint driver.
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you can select the printer driver (or AirPrint) Please let me know how this works out. If you require further assistance I will happily do all I can to help.  For those of you with an HP printer with no full feature software and drivers, this document explains how to scan a document from a Mac running Yosemite. Although a full feature Yosemite driver is not available to download for your printer, you can scan from the Mac with the driver from Apple Software Update. Follow the steps in this document to install the driver, and then scan from either Apple Preview, Apple Image Capture, or the Print and Scan window.

    Hi dreamer,
Sometimes in oder to use apps that came with your printer/scanner you must be using the printers actual driver and not AirPrint. This video should explain it if you are still having issues. Printer/Scanner Fix With Yosemite No Matter What Brand

  • Re: No more scanning after upgrading to MacOS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"

I am sorry Mr. HP, but if you select "Preferences" under the Apple icon there is nothing there for "hardware."
Can you please get someone to respond to the problem that understands how a MacBook and Yosemite works please?
I've run out of time for guessing.

    HI @UThrewError
    After reviewing your profile I can see you have many posts on the subject. Let's start fresh. I would like to help you with the issue, but rather than me reviewing every post on different threads, let's start from the beginning. Please respond back with the answers to the following questions;
Please describe the issue in detail
Please confirm you have 10.10. On another thread there was mention of 10.6, and on another I see 10.9 was mentioned. Please verify your Mac version for me. How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
What printer model do you have? If I am not mistaken it looks like you have the 8600, but please confirm and let me know which model (pro, plus, premium)  How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Please let me know what you have tried thus far.   (I can see on one thread the issue was escalated - what was the outcome of that?)
Connection type: Wireless, Ethernet or USB?
I can image by the number of posts you have you may be feeling frustrated, but please allow me the opportunity to work towards a solution with you. Please give me a chance, I can see you have been displeased with the efforts of some on other threads, but I am willing to work with you if we can be respectful of one another. I will do my best to respect your time and efforts, I hope you can be mindful and appreciate my willingness to help.
Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you.
Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.

  • For Those Who Can't Boot After Upgrading To 10.5.6

For Those Who Can't Boot After Upgrading To 10.5.6
(and i am one of those)
how is Apple supposed to make them able to install future fixes and updates
once they finally acknowledge and address this horrible bug?
will they send free bootable CDs with the updates to 10.5.6?

What "Boot ROM version" do you have (check in the system profiler under "Hardware")? If it's not MBP31.0070.B07 or MBP21.00A5.B08, then you will need to update your MacBook Pro's firmware. To do this, you might need to connect an external display and mouse/keyboard, and then run the computer with the lid closed to bypass the laptop's monitor. Then apply the firmware patch and reboot the system. This might also be doable via "Screen Sharing" if you have that enabled and have another mac handy.
The firmware update is here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/macbookproefifirmw areupdate151.html

My iPhone 4 can not reboot after upgrading to iOS 6; keeps trying and cannot shut off either.

I FINALLY got it to work on BOTH iPhone 4 and iPpad 3.  Here is what I had to do:
Had to DELETE all e-mail accounts including icloud.
Did a hard reset (hold down button on top right corner and round button on bottom center)
Then once it came back on, the iPhone had ALL of the accounts still on it and it was receivng e-mail.
The iPad receive e-mail until I did the steps above 5 times.  Plus, I had to add back all of the e-mail accounts vs. on the iPhone 4 they were there when my phone came on.
Now I am receiving e-mail on both devices normally.
No clue why this happened, but Apple needs to find a fix ASAP.

Reset the PRAM > About NVRAM and PRAM
Those instructions are for Mavericks but will work on Yosemite as well.
    Then try the USB modem.

    Alister,
If your computer came with a set of discs, it may be unnecessary to purchase the applications from the App Store, as they can be reinstalled from the discs that came with the computer.
Mac OS X 10.6: Reinstalling applications that came with your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH6439
If you do desire to upgrade to the newest versions of these applications (should the computer have shipped with iLife '08 or '09), then the apps are now separate items in the App Store. However, even separately, the applications are a great deal less expensive than their older counterparts.
    All my best,

  • After upgrading to Imac updating Iphone and Ipad I can no longer sync in Itunes

I have newly upgraded to IMac and love it! I also traded in my IPad to IPad Air and updated my IPhone from 4S to 5C. When I was using a Windows PC I had all my gadgets synced to ITunes (this includes a MacBook Pro and two IPods, Yes I'm hooked). Now I can no longer sync any of my gadgets to ITunes on the new IMac.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

  • Can't login after upgrade to 10.6.8

    Hi
I am stuck in a login loop after upgrading from 10.6.4 to 10.6.8, the Login window accepts the password, the screen clears and after a short delay the login window reappears.
    Some background info:
    this is a 2010 iMac 21.5"
I have replaced a failed drive with a new one, reinstalled 10.6.4 with the install disc that came with the Mac
Did a successful Time Machine restore where the computer would boot and desktop and files were all intact.
A couple of programs complained about the OS needing updating so I used the Update feature to download and install 10.6.8
Now I cannot get past the logon screen.
Any suggestions to get past this screen?
    thanks
    Bob

    Hi Eric
    Thanks for your continued help
I borrowed another 10.6.4 DVD and have now managed to install 10.6.4 and update it to 10.6.8 and no longer have the logon loop issue. I've also verified/repaired the disc and repaired the file permissions successfully.
Time Machine has restored the desktop, all the music files are there, Photo's are there and Google Picassa runs, but little else.
Safari complains I have the wrong version of OSX and will not run so I can't browse the net (typing this on my laptop)
iTunes reports it requires 10.7.5 or later as do most other apps I've tried.
Fortunately Finder works, I've run the Software Update and it says I have the latest updates.
If I click on 'App Store', the store opens ok but the only Upgrade option I now see is to Yosemite, if I select that the App Store screen gives a spinning pointer and never does anything, I have to force quit through finder to get out of it.
any suggestions as to what to try next?
    thanks
    Bob
