i can't see my usb devices on my desktop. i tried to restart and re-plag but it doesn't show up. help?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That's normal. You have to set up Finder to show external drives on Desktop.
To do this, open a Finder window, go to Finder menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > General, and mark "External disks"

  • How can I see my USB device in the measurement&automation explorer?

I'm trying to use an USB-device with LabView7.0.
I followed the manual "using NI-VISA3.0 to control your USB device" which I found on the NI-webpage.
I generated an .inf file using the VISA driver developement wizard and installed it in the INV folder of my system (I'm using Win2000).
The following problems occured: after I connect my USB device the "add new hardware wizard" pops up and aks for a driver for the new hardware. when I direct it to the folder with the generated .inf file it doesn't accept this file as a driver.
second: the USB device doesn't appear in the measurement&automation explorer. I assume that as long as my device doen't appear there it is not recognized by NI-VISA and the comm
    unication from LV wouldn't work?
How can a make my USB device visible in the meas.&aut. explorer?
    Regards
    Tobias

    Tobias,
In the VISA Driver Development Wizard, you are required to specify the Vendor and Product ID. These numbers are what Windows will use to determine whether a specific driver is appropriate for a given device. If these numbers do not match between your device and the Windows driver (INF file) that you generate, you will see the behavior that you describe. Check to make sure that you are using the appropriate values. Also, did you right click on the INF file and install it as directed in step 2.2.2?
Page 5-87 of the VISA Programmer's reference manual specifies how to do a viOpen to a USB device in RAW mode, but you still need the same sorts of Product ID and Mfg ID that you needed for the INF file generation. Furthermore, if you are communicating with
your instrument directly, you will need to know exactly what command set it expects, so make sure you get that from the manufacturer as well. Finally, I want to mention that if this device complies with the USBTMC standard, then none of this is necessary--the steps above are for setting up a RAW USB connection. See this link for information.

  • Can't see my USB Devices in Finder.

I am running the latest update of OS X Yosemite and within the past couple days, I can no longer see my plug in devices, ie. External Hard Drive, DSLR camera, etc.
When I pull the plug out of the usb port, I get a message that says I didn't eject the disk properly.  What gives?
    Any advice is appreciated.

Well the I figured out the solution....I shut down & restart the system.  Sometimes its the little things.

  • Can't see my USB icon on my desktop so I can disconnect it

I have a new iMAC Lion 10.7.2.  I had a flashdrive in a USB port a few days ago and removed it without dumping the icon first.  Now, I can't find the icon on the desktop in order to remove it safely.  (I have a mouse drive in another port and there is no icon for that, either.)

What usually works well is to plug the flash drive back in. With luck it will appear on the desktop, and be accessible. That is when you should unmount the drive properly. To unmount the drive, do one of the following -
    • Select the drive by clicking its icon once, then press Command-E (Eject in the File menu).
    • Right-click or Control-click the icon for the drive, and select Eject from the contextual menu that appears.
    • Drag the icon to the Trash. The Trash icon will change to an eject symbol when you're partway there - keep dragging it all the way to the Trash, drop it into that symbol.
Once the drive has been unmounted you can safely unplug it.

  • WRT600N and Network Places can't see other N device

I just replaced my WRT350N with a WRT600N. After install, my wired desktop cannot "see" in Network Places my other Desktops Shared Drive which has a Linksys WUS300N. This Desktop (with WUS300N) is able to access the internet wirelessly and all settings in router are default. In addition, my wired desktop can "see" all other G devices in "Network Places", but just can't "see" the WUS300N device in Network Places. Once I put the WRT350N back, all devices can be seen in Network Places. Shut down WRT600N, restarted all units, shut off/on sharing, turned firewalls off...no change
My wired desktop is Vista Premium 32 Bit
My wireless desktop is XP Home Edition

I replaced my WRT350N with the WRT600N too because of all the problems with the 350N and to have the dual band as most of my laptops have wireless N cards. I have not had any problems with this router other than only being able to access my USB Tera drive with my XP machines using ftp, if I try to search for it under network neighborhood as I do on my Visa machines and it only brings up default and it won't let my access my share that I created even with the user I created as an admin on the router to access the USB drive share, but since I can access it using ftp I am not concerned at all and otherwise this router is letting all my N wireless cards including the intel 4965N connect at 270Mbps all the time at the same time 3 other laptops that my kids use are connected too with wireless G cards, so I am a happy camper so far.

  • I can't see my removable device.

I have xfce4 interface installed and pretty much everything.
    It runs smooth, and fine.
But today when I try to use my USB stick to transfer some files, I can't see the removable device (USB Stick) in my file manager. ( Looked in cd home, and filesystem.)
Can someone help me how to make my removable device to show up.
I even used this command # udevadm monitor when my usb was plugged in and when I remove it, i get message in the terminal saying "remove blah blah blah".
I believe my usb ports are working fine, but I dont know how to locate my usb stick folder.
Help is appreciated. And please I try searching on google plus even forums, and can't understand or find the solution for it.

p.s Thx for all your replies.
And I do manually load my xfce interface.
When I boot the computer it does not go straight to xfce interace.
I have to manually load it by typing "startxfce4"
And I dont know what you mean by manually mounting it.

Thanks pvonk, I will try downloanding the book from the Iphone right now.......
Just tried to download and it wants me to buy it again?  Is there some way around this?  I guess I thought that was the whole point of the cloud, buy it once and access from any of your devices right?
Also, I have logged into the icloud.com as suggested and will plink around there for a bit and try to understand.  It is just all so dang different that what I am used to; Apple's way, that is.
Thanks again for the Icloud tip and if you know of a way to download without making a 2nd purchase I would sure love to hear it!
Geez. one other thing (I guess I am complaining) but I bought more space in the cloud, they took my cash fast enough but have not yet increase the size of my storage space yet?  Is Apple sometimes slow to get internal stuff done?

  • Boot Camp with Win 8 Can't See The USB External Drive [MBR with NTFS, Fat32, HFS Partitions]

Hi. When I boot to Boot Camp with the latest Apple Windows Support drivers can't see my USB Flash Drive, DVD and OS X volumes but not my USB external drive that has an MBR partition scheme (using iPartition from GUID) and in there it has different volumes [HFS when I boot to Snow Leopard, Fat32, NTFS]. What can I do with Boot Camp to make it see my USB external drive and why isn't it seeing the USB when it can see the USB flash drive both use USB?
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless.

  • [SCHROOT] Can't see my USB hard drive

    Hi
I use an schroot environment to run 32 bit applications on my arch64 system.
All runs well, but I have a problem I don't know how to solve myself.
I can't see my USB harddrives from inside the chroot system, so , for example 32 bit browsers can't save files on my USB hd.
I tried to mount with the "--bind" option the HD :
    sudo mount --bind /media/HD /opt/arch32/media/HD
Reading the HD with "ls /opt/arch32/media/HD" works outside the chroot, but then when I try to read the HD with "ls /media/HD" from inside the chroot I get a "PERMISSION DENIED" error.
I don't know what to do. How am I supposed to see my USB hds from inside the chroot system?
    Thanks
    Marcello

I don't know to be honest, it's the first time that I do such a thing (chroot) , and I never tried a 32 on 32 bit chroot system

  • How do I see a USB device attached to AirPort Extreme?

Alright guys, I have been browsing around in search of an answer, but I've found nothing definitive about this. If I missed it, please be so kind as to put me towards a working link.
My question is the following. I have an AirPort Extreme 802.g, 5th generation, and a MacBook Pro 2012 with Lion installed on a SSD (downgrade from Mountain Lion). The setup of the airport was problematic enough with Utility 6.0, so eventually I (needlessly) uninstalled it and got the 5.6 version, which in fact works like a charm and is of great assistance too in troubleshooting any problems.
However, the problem is that I cannot manage to utilize the self-powered docking bay (functioning as an external HD) that I plugged into the Airport's USB.
If I open the Utility, I can click on "manual setup" and see under "discs" that my device is recognized and listed properly as a HD of given capacity; but that's about it. In no other place on the OS can I see it, let alone open it. Tried the "network" folder, spotlight, and all that.
    Any heads-up?
    TIA
    Chris
PS I haven't tried the printer yet, will do soon.

OK found the problem: the disc is formatted in exFAT. The Airport cannot see it. It does see and mount a FAT32 disc. I found out that it cannot see a NTFS, either, if anybody's interested...

  • Imac 21" mid 2011 can not boot from USB device?

    Hi,
    hope someone can help me.
Bought the new imac 21" and replaced the superdrive with a ssd drive.
Works great but it seems that the imac is not able to boot from any usb device.
I put my osx install disk in my external dvd drive and powered my mac.
While booting up (pressing cmd) the mac does not recognize my external dvd drive. This works great with my MBP late 2008. But the imac can not boot from the dvd drive. Also pressing "c" while booting does not work. Doing that a grey screen appears and after some time mac boots from hdd.
So i installed mac os via target mode over firewire withbmy old imac. This works.
But now i want to install windows on a bootcamp partition.
I can't boot from the windows 7 professional dvd, too. So i tried to create a bootable win 7 thumbdrive. Mac can't boot from this too. Reading many threads in some forum i tried with rEEfit. Reefit shows the usb thumbdrive whike booting, but using this will end in a black screen error from bios: "no bootable device....". Tried a knoppix on the usb thukbdrive, too.... No bootable device....
It seems that there is no way to boot from ANY external usb device like dvd drives or thumbdrives......
What more can i do? I tried for 2 evenings now, but nothing worked out for me......
Currently i don't see any any to install win 7 without an internal superdrive, but can this be??
    Thanks for any comments.

Internal is definitely the easiest but you can boot from external HD or external optical drive, the mac is just very picky on what works and what doesn't.
For an external drive or usb stick it has to be GUID partition table and have 10.4.5 or better installed on it, for more info check this link out ( http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1948 )
    Hope this helps,
    Joe

  • I can't see my usb camera (Kodak CX7220)

    Hi,
The package libgphoto2 (2.1.4-2) does not contain my camera. So, I had to compile the new version (2.1.5) myself. After installed it, I dont know if I have to do something else, but when I run gthumb or gtkam, I still can't see my camera on the list!
Anyone knows what I have to do?
    Thanks!

    Hi murpheus40.
First check out the following very recent article about cameras under LInux:
"Use Your Digital Camera with Linux"
    http://www.linuxdevcenter.com/pub/a/lin … gicam.html
    Now for a few tips:
    1. Check that the USB camera is recognized after it's been plugged in. You can check the devices file:
    cat  /proc/bus/usb/devices
or you can run usbview (an Arch Linux package).
    2. Even if you can't get gthumb or gtkam to work right now, you can download the files directly using gphot2. This is nicely described in the article referenced above.
    3. You might find that your camera is not well supported by ghoto2. For one of my cameras this meant that the USB connection was lost and it was necessary to replug the camera in to work with additional commands (e.g., doing a complete file list dropped the connection after the listing was complete).
    4. Your camera IS supported by gphoto2. See:
    http://www.gphoto.org/proj/libgphoto2/support.php
    5. The previous tips may not have gotten you to your goal. There's a lot of good information about setting up USB cameras under LInux using gphoto2 at:
"Digital Camera Support for UNIX, Linux and BSD"
    http://www.teaser.fr/~hfiguiere/linux/digicam.html
"Configuring a USB digital still camera on Debian"
    http://jace.seacrow.com/tech/linux/usbcam
"How do I get my USB digital camera to work under Linux?"

    Good luck!
