  • IPad "misbehaves" when used with a MultiSIM - picks up/rejects phone calls

    Hello Cupertino,
iPad 3G misbehaves when used e.g. with a MultiSIM card of T-Mobile Germany.
It is said to pick up phone calls and actively rejects them. Thus the "Main" Mobile Phone (e.g. the iPhone) will ring ONCE then the iPad will pick up and reject the call. (On T-Mobile Network, one cannot disallow phone calls for a specific MultiSIM, all Phones of the same number will ring simultaneously).
This is a really serious and embarassing bug, please fix it with next OS version.
    Cheers,
    Thomas

No! this is a "bug", because the ipad is connecting via the sim-card in an incorrect way. From day one on Apple always is pressing the fact that the iPad is a "data"-device ONLY and NOT a "phone"-device.
There is no intention of Apple to make the ipad do anything else as "connecting to the internet". That's why there is no textmessage app, no voicemail, no phonestuff on the the ipad. That's perfectly ok! But considering this the iPad misbehaves when connecting to a gprs/umts network because it is connecting showing itself as a PHONE AND DataDevice instead of DATA-ONLY.
THAT IS WRONG, because this automatically triggers the telcom provider to sent voice and messaging connections to this device.
Proof: On a jailbroken iPad it is possible to simply switch the device to the correct CGCLASS="CP" setting. With this setting the iPad only connects as a datadevice (e.g. like a usb-umts-stick) and doesn't answer any incoming non-data-connections.
BUT: I don't want a jailbreak! If want a correct working iPad.
And last but not least: the multi-sim-option (meaning more simcards under the same number) is totaly legitimate and is part of the usagespecs for telecom-networks. It is working perfectly well if (yeah, IF) every device connecting to the network identifies itself correctly with its capabilities.
If a device identifies itself as a phone and it actually isn't, then this device has a serious bug and is not correctly configured to be used in a mixed telcom network. Just because "normaly" everybody uses only one simcard, it is no reason NOT to stick to specs.
This is just sloppy work when porting the iPhone OS to the iPad. Simply forgotten! No big deal, but fix it, because Apple is "killing" a whole generation of german t-mobile users (all iphone contracts older than ~12 months can use their dataplan with free multisimcards from t-mobile on different devices!).

Support problem. The adviser tried to diagnose the failure of an application called JOTNOT PRO to update. He said he'd phone back at 8pm. I pick up his call at 8pm. Electronic voice: thank you for calling apple. We are now closed" So now I have 2 problems: the adviser had got me to reset so bye bye wifi passwords and settings. And then when he phones back as we agreed he's not actually on the phone, it's just a voice saying Apple Support is now closed! What on earth is going on at apple support I wonder.
Anyway, the original problem: an application called JotNot Pro fails to update. The error message says something like "you cannot update this cos either you bought it with a different Apple ID or somebody else bought it."
    Neither applies. Can anybody help?
PS. This is my first approach to the support community so please bear with me!
    William

You might have better luck contacting the app's support or developers.

  • When I get an call the phone switches automatically to speaker phone when I pick up the call

When I get an call the phone switches automatically to speaker phone when I pick up the call.
I then have to press the handset button to get out of the speaker phone mode.
How do I set it to goto the handset automatically.
I have the most up-to date software and I have pulled that battery.

That's just what happens when you do a battery pull. If your phone is turned OFF, the cache is not accessible. As you're probably aware, anytime any electronic device is acting up (PC, printer, modem, etc.), unplugging it will correct many issues; it's the same with your phone.
I can't offer a really technical explanation, just trust me on this one and remove your battery while your phone is ON.

No. Call Apple Care and give them the serial number. They may be able to tell you who it is locked to.

  • Picking up a phone call.

There are times when the phone is off and someone tries to call me. I see the little slider to pick up the call. However, I can swipe or try to swipe the slider with my fingers 10 times and nothing happens. I've lost calls due to this and I don't know what could be causing this. Doesn't happen all the time though with is even more vexing.

Most of the current Apple Intel based computers are comparable in CPU speed. I don't think it is so much the model of laptop as it is the memory, and storage capacity of the machine. If you are going to use FCP on a regular basis, perhaps as a professional or semi-professional, then you should think about the maximum memory and a very large capacity internal disk drive. For instance, one hour of finished compressed video will take up about 1.5 to 2Gbytes of disk space. If you add up the raw footage and still imagery and audio, you'll use up your disk drive capacity real quick. So a hard disk on the order of 750Gbytes @ 7200rpms might be good for video editing. 5400RPMs might be slow to rendering times. Rendering a video might take up a lot of memory so more memory is better e.g. 8Gbytes.
As a rule of thumb, once you get to about 80% of your disk drive or memory you'll see degradation of performance.
You can check out macsales.com. THey have a menu system that will allow you to pick and choose from various alternatives. BTW, it's been said that although Macs are typically spec'd at a certain memory size, macsales.com found that Apple computers will actually support higher memory levels. That is, if 4Gbytes are spec'd, some machines support 6Gbytes. macsales.com will provide the guidance for you.
You might also consider buying an external disk e.g. 500Gbytes to carry around with you for back-up or transport to another machine.

  • Text messages and phone calls from March 2012 to date are missing after activating iphone5

text messages and phone calls from March 2012 to date are missing after activating iphone5. I backed up my 4 before activating my 5. Can i retrieve them somehow?

i would not want to bet on nokia ever releasing a patch or update in the software to allow this function on this particular phone.
if you look at nokia phones over the years, they have added functionality like this across a wide range all at once, take for example timed profiles on symbian phones. these have only just been phased in.
i do not think it is a development cop out, more along the lines that nokia is a huge company and as such would have a huge effor in market research. if they didnt pick this out through their market researc, why spend the money adding it?
the comment on annoyance is entirely personal to me, as it is important to you - you may want to consider moving to a symbian (series 60) based handset as these give you a lot of expansion for this sort of need.

  • Problem with picking up a call

I am facing problem regarding picking up a call. ios 8 is very slow and it is sometimes not responsive at all. Phone hangs which never occur wih former ios.

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

  • SP-3102 - Unable to make VOIP phone calls after switching router

I had to change the router from Netgear (g) to Belkin N+ (n). Changed the SPA-3102 config to DHCP, it picked up an IP and showed the 1st 3 LEDs lit, status Registered. So, good news.
I am able to receive VOIP phone calls, but not able to make phone calls, it won't dial. I installed slogsrv.exe and got the following log: syslog.514.log. Unfortunately, it's chinese to me.
    Please help,
                Daniel

Try checking any settings on the old router which you might need to configure also on the new router to get VoIP working like port forwarding, dmz or disabling the NAT. The Belkin might have a feature like NAT which behaves differently so you might need to open up VoIP ports or enable NAT mapping and NAT Keep Alive on the SPA.

  • When making a phone call, can't hear the ringing sound

On my iPhone 5s, when I'm calling someone, I don't hear the usual ringing sound until the person picks up. I'm not talking about the touch tones when dialing a number, nor am I referring to the ring tone when I have an incoming call. Simply the every-two-seconds ringing indicator once you've dialed a number, before the person picks up. Once someone picks up, the call quality is fine.
This started happening randomly this afternoon. I've had the phone for about a month; currently on iOS 7.1.1.

  • Warning: Scam phone call

This morning I received a phone call from some people claiming to be from BT's Potential Malicious Use department (or something similar). The woman said her name was Venniser. When I said I had trouble understanding her heavy Indian accent she handed me over to a man whose name sounded like Dariel. They claimed that malicious software had been downloaded with my emails and that this was uploading more malicious software on to the BT servers. Because of this, I was going to be disconnected from BT internet. They claimed that my anti-virus and firewall wouldn't protect me from the threats.
I was unwilling to follow any directions given over the phone to resolve the 'issue'. I asked the woman for my BT billing reference as a way of confirming that the call was genuine. The number she gave me was wrong - it didn't even start with the right letters. If I'd know at the time that BT employees have an ID number, I'd have asked for that instead of their names. When I told Dariel that BT would have sent some kind of notification of their intention to disconnect, he told me it was probably in my Spam folder. It isn't. I haven't received anything from BT, email or post, since my last bill. When I said I didn't believe the call was genuine, he told me he was going to disconnect my internet there and then, and disconnect my phone at the same time. I said goodbye and hung up. That was two hours ago. I'm still here!
The call sounded like it was coming from an office or call centre - there were other voices in the background. Dariel gave himself a convincing job title - Senior Supervisor. When I dialled 1471 to find out who had called, there number was not available. This is a scam.

There are so many scams doing the rounds that you would have to get Microsoft, Banks, Building Societies, Pension Companies, Lottery Companies etc etc etc to put out emails warning of them then you would have to get emails warning you of phishing emails about warning emails from these companies and so it goes on.
The best thing is to remember that NO reputable company will ever phone you unsolicited and ask you to reveal any personal details, log on username or password details or security questions or to access your computer.
They will never ask you for bank account details or tell you that there is a problem with your bank card and they will arrange a courier to pick it up or any of the many other ways to get you to part with your cash.
No ISP will contact you about corrupted files or folders on your computer effecting their servers or that you have a virus.
In short, any one who phones you wanting your details or access to your computer is a scammer.

  • A Verizon CS "Manager" hung up on me last night immediately after picking up my call

During the last month I had called into Verizon FIOS tech support due to us not receiving all the channels and in the process i believe the techs removed then re-added our boxes from our package which resolved the issue with the channels, but caused us to be overcharged for the most recent month. I called in and spoke with a representative who was helpful in adjusting the account so that going forward we will be charged the amount we signed on for. However, after getting off the phone with her I realized that we had not been credited the full amount that was due to us for the current month overcharge.
I called back and spoke with a CSR named "Jenna" and explained the issue to her. Right away I could tell she was not understanding what I was explaining to her (note: this was NOT a complicated issue to understand and resolve. It was very cut and dry.). She repeatedly told me that the charges to my account were for the correct amount, and that my bill increase was a result of an increase in the price of set-top boxes (since my bill had already been fixed for the months going forward, the girl's logic would imply that Verizon arbitrarily increased the price on set-top boxes for the month of October). Additionally, her attitude on the phone was extremely rude and unprofessional. When it was clear I wasn't getting anywhere with Jenna, I asked to be transferred to a manager. After waiting on hold and having her attempt to upsell me some sort of Verizon/Redbox joint service, she transferred me to a "manager." This "manager" picked up the call without introducing himself, quickly said "the charges on your account are sustained. Good night" and disconnected the call without me even having the chance to talk.
Never in my life have I been treated with such disrespect from a company that I do business with, which says a lot because I was with Comcast for about 8 years. I gave the CSR no reason to treat me with such disdain despite being very frustrated with her inability to resolve such a basic issue. It was bad enough that I had to spend hours of my night on the phone with them helping sort out an issue I wasn't responsible for; insulting me on top of it is downright repulsive.
The only reason I haven't gone to the BBB already about this is upon calling back I was connected with another CSR named Jenna who was extremely polite and sweet, had no trouble understanding my issue, and went out of her way to finally resolve my issue (Note: this Jenna was from Indiana. DO NOT confuse the two. You would be lucky to have more employees like this one.)
