Welcome to the Apple community.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

  • I am trying to change my admin password to my macbook.  I have leopard 10.5 and don't remember my old password.  Any suggestions.

I can't change my admin password on my macbook without knowing my old password.  I don't remember my old password hence the reason I need to change my password.  I'm trying to update my software from leopard to snow leopard and so on, but need my password to install new software.  Apple support can't assist me because my operating system is prehistoric.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
Boot your MacBook using the original disk that came with it. Proceed past the languages window and on the next window click on the utilties menu and select Reset Password. It should be fairly obvious what to do next?
If you don't have the original disk but do have a snow leopard disk (must be the generic one) then use the same procedure.
I'm surprised Apple said they could not help you because your OS is prehistoric? Does not sound like Apple to me? Least they could have done was to point you to this Apple support article:

I've had an Apple ID under an old email address. I have a new Apple ID under my current email. Is there a way to link or merge the two together? I don't remember the old password and that email address is no longer active. If I cannot link or merge the two, how can I activate the old ID on the new computer if that email account is no longer active?? Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance!!

    You cannot merge accounts.
You need to sign into the old account on your computer.

Mine does the same thing occasionally, is your phone jailbroken? Sometimes it will work if you delete the book and reinstall it or put your phone into airplane mode then turn it back off.

  • Trying to update my iPhone and now i have to restore it... any help?!

i've just tried to update my phone to IOS 6.1 (the latest update) and now my iPhone 4S isn't recognised by iTunes and saying i need to restore it. help?! can't access my phone, its in 'connect to itunes mode', tried restarting both macbook pro and 4S, no luck.
i'm loathed to restore it as my last few back ups have been unsuccessful.
    thank you!

As for not wanting to restore, you don't have a choice. It's in recovery mode, which means anything that was on the phone is already gone.

  • Installation of Yosemite seems to have just stalled and now I can't quit or restart or anything - help!

Trying to install Yosemite - seems to have frozen / stalled and now can't quit or restart or anything - help!

If you have another computer that is on the same network as the Mac you're trying to upgrade, you can try to "ssh" in to the mac while the upgrade process is running. "ssh" is a command available on many computers (built in to Linux and Mac and not sure if it is native app on Windows or not). For example on a Linux box trying to login to a Mac you could (assuming the IP address of the Mac is 192.168.99.99):
         ssh [email protected]
The authenticity of host '192.168.99.99 (192.168.99.99)' can't be established.
         RSA key fingerprint is c2:2c:8f:f5:82:77:85:69:3a:ac:3e:30:62:55:14:1f.
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? yes
Warning: Permanently added '192.168.99.99' (RSA) to the list of known hosts.
Password: (your password for the macuser account will not be echoed)
         Last login: Thu Nov 27 18:16:45 2014
         Macname:~ macuser$
Once you get logged in, you can do a couple of things to see if things are progressing. Try to do a couple of "df -k" commands a minute or so apart (maybe a little more) and see if the "Used" and/or "Available" column numbers change. You can also try a "top" command to see what processes are running and which are using cpu and other resources. Do a "man top" or "man df" to see more information about these commands.
Be careful and not change anything while this upgrade is proceeding - don't remove files or change things with the system. Also note that depending on which phase of the upgrade process it is in, the disk space numbers may not even change. But the "top" command should give you a very good indicator on if anything is really going on. Another good thing to look at is to do the following:
         cd /var/log
         tail -f install.log
this will show you all/most of the commands that are being run as the upgrade is in progress. Just control-c to abort the "tail" command.
Once you have convinced yourself something or nothing is going on (the time estimator seems to be horribly unreliable in the couple of times I've watched the upgrade process), then just let it finish and it should reboot at the end of the process. To log back out of the Mac, just type in the "exit" command followed by an Enter or Return.
This all assumes that you had setup "Remote Login" in the "Sharing" System Preferences pane before hand on the Mac.
    Good luck...

  • My mac froze after connecting it to AirPlay and now I can't get it to reboot. Help!

I was hooking my MacBook Pro up to my dad's Apple TV receiver via AirPlay. The Mac display began changing like it would be mirrored, but it never started to mirror, and my mac froze. 10 min later still froze I shut it down via the power button. When I turned it back on, I couldn't get it to boot up all the way. It goes to the point where their is a cursor on the screen, and that's it. I then tried booting up in safe mode, but it took 25 min to boot. I have an early 2011 model and I just installed Yosemite on it a few weeks ago. My AppleCare 3 year warranty ran out back in September, so any help in troubleshooting this is appreciated.

    Try a force-restore:
    1. Launch iTunes but do not connect the iPad.
    2. Hold down the iPad's Home and Sleep buttons at the same time. This will force the screen to fade and the Apple Logo to reappear. KEEP holding the two buttons down until the screen goes black.
    3. Once the screen is black, release the Sleep button but keep holding down the Home button while you plug the cable into the iPad.  Contunue holding the Home button until the you see the iTunes logo and the picture of the cable on the screen. This may take up to 30 seconds.
    4. iTunes should now detect the iPad and you can perform a Restore.

  • I have my iphone 4S backed up to icloud and now I can not get any calender information at all previous to September 2012.  I had last backed it up at the end of January and Calender saved to icloud is "on".  How can I retrieve my calenders?  Help now!

Help!  I recorded odometer readings on my work calender on my iphone 4S all last year and now my calenders are blank from September2012 and earlier.  It is backed up to icloud.  What happened and can I get that information back somehow?

Go to iCloud.com, select the calendar.
Is the information listed in the calendar?
If it is, it should be syncing to the device.
If it is not, then that information is gone.

  • HT201240 I want to resest the administrator password but I don't remember the old password and I don't have the start up disc. Is there a way around this?

I'm trying to install a program update and the password that I thought I set isn't working. I don't have any start-up disk and need help resetting the password.

Here's one method to reset the password without the install disc:
    1. boot computer and hold the "apple" key and the "s" key.
    2. wait for terminal show
    3. release keys
    4. type without the quotes: "/sbin/mount -uaw"
    5. press enter
    6. type without the quotes: "rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
    7. press enter
    8. type without the quotes: "reboot"
    9. press enter
This will let you create a new admin account when you reboot your computer.
Also, without the discs, look at Mac OS X Tip - No Password, No Root, No CD? No Problem.
    http://www.macobserver.com/tip/2003/06/16.1.shtml
Here is a way to get around not knowing the admin password on Macs.
To reset your OS X password without an OS X CD you need to enter terminal and create a new admin account:
       1. Reboot
       2. Hold apple + s down after you hear the chime.
       3. When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
              * mount -uw /
              * rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
              * shutdown -h now
       4. After rebooting you should have a brand new admin account. When you login as the new admin you can simply delete the old one and you’re good to go again!

  • Have an old MBP. Just installed lion on it today. Previously, the computer had no password (at login, I would just hit enter so essentially the password was nothing). After installing Lion, that no longer works, and now I can't get into my computer. Help!

Did i post this question in the right place to get an answer?

    Yes.
Have a look at this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3189665
It's not uncommon for some people to have a "blank" password, I did that for years. Apparently Lion has a problem with blank passwords.
I hope the procedure in that thread works for you.
