I have found the issue. I have not found an answer to the prob. I have put in a case with customer service. If it doesn't work right, I need my money back!!!

I had the same issue with my apple tv 3rd generation. I rented Sinister and selected the "rent and watch now" option. Half way through the movie I accidentally pressed the menu button. When I looked for the rented movie on my apple tv I could not find it. Not even above the movie pannel where "purchased" and "top movies" comes up on the main menu. the apple tv suggests to go to settings>downloads but I don't have that option. I did go to settings> itunes store> check rentals but that didnt work either. It took too long to even check. Thank you because this SOLUTION worked great.
SOLUTION: How to reset apple tv 3 3rd generation to view rented movies:on the apple tv remote: press and hold "menu" to go to the main menu. Select SETTINGS> GENERAL >RESET >RESET ALL SETTINGS. After the apple tv resets, input all your information again and your rented movies should be visible when you cruise above the "movies" section. THANK YOU!!
Apple needs to solve this issue because honestly it took me 3 hours and a half to watch a movie that only lasted 2 BECAUSE I wast trying to solve the issue, reseting and all. blahh.

Thank you for responding to my problem so promptly. Frankly, I did not expect to hear from people so soon! The fact is that as soon as I posted the question, I was shown a number of similar queries and managed to find the answer. I have to say it's not intuitive! I have an apple TV original version. Apparently I had the ATV on streaming and not syncing. Streaming does not allow you to stream a rental from your computer whereas you can sync and transfer the rental from the computer!

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have bought 1 MacbookPor 17, 1 Macbook air, 1 MacbookPro 15 , 2 ipads, 3 iphones, and this iMac27 and 2 of iMAC24 or 20 not sure   but I do not recall ever doing what you are telling me in your reply.   When you get a extended car warranty, you don't   sign up for it.. it is just there and is included in the sale.   You don't buy this warranty to use it.. You buy it, in case something happens.   Here a perfect iMAC with minimum 100 hour useage has a dead drive. That is not normal and I should not have to even be requesting anything since most MFG offer a 3-5 year warranty on their disc drives and I believe that is probably passed on to Apple regardless if an extended warranty is purchased or not.   Customer service dictates a more flexible approach to make sure the lifetime value of a customer is not lost due to some misunderstanding.
I was in the MacStore that I purchased the unit..and they found and pulled the invoice and confirmed
the purchase of it in front of me. I had paid with credit card and fortunately it was there in their system.   I do not also recall recieving any box or paper although most everything I ever get remains sealed.. I am not in the habit of opening anything since I have never encountered any serious issues before.
   I have used my Macbookpro warranty 1 time and that is all throughout the years I have been investing in Apple equipment.
I just recieved a letter from the store asking me to get the paper to them so they can register it... I don't recall getting any paper actually. But I do have several boxes sealed here.. On this iMAC27, it was a hurry up and get it done thing and I don't remember taking anything extra with it.   Regardless, my request does not seem unreasonable.

I rented a movie (The Hobbit)...but it stops loading.
The movie costs CHF 7.50.
A phone call to the support team costs CHF 46.-- !!!!!

HT3180 I tried again later several times and am afraid the rental period will expire and will not be able to watch the movie. The system also does not allow me to re-purchase the movie.

I've rentented a movie and would like to watch it. Consistently I receive the message "an error occured loading this contnt ...try again later". I've tried over a long period several times but always receive the same message. Also, I tried to re-purchase the movie but the system does not allow this. It just confirms "you have already rented this movie". any suggestions. Can't I just cancel the rental since I have not even fully streamed the movie/

Do not use Mirroring, simply AirPlay the content to the ATV.

I want to load movies in to my iPad through itune in my pc that runs window XP. First of all I am not able to add the movies to the itune ,leave aside sync to iPad .can some one suggest what is the simplest way to load movies in my iPad.

I have plenty of DVD which I load in my laptop and watch the movies while travel, however I am not able to do that in my iPad .
I would appreciate some one guide me the simplest way of loading the movies in to my iPad. I tried the conventional procedure of loading/copying in to itune then sync to the iPad to load all movies in it, but failed to do the first step( not able to load /copy in itune) leave aside the sync to iPad next.
Do I need to sellout some 20 odd $ to buy a conversion software that would help?
Is it that Apple trying to make money by not making this simplest of thing possible by the user.( ref. windows, every thing is possible with little IQ of the user).

If you are the only user on your computer you probably don't have multiple user accounts set up and can disregard that. If you are using iTunes 11 go to View>Show Sidebar. Now see if your iPad appears under Devices on the left side when you connect it. If it does, click on the name of your iPad on the left side and your iTunes sync settings options will appear in folders with tabbed headings to the right.
