If you have not yet been locked out, a Restore will do it for you. Everything is restored except for the password. Be forewarned that the Restore is easy but it takes a long time.
Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."

my parents bought me an ipod touch 4th gen for christmas, it has been working fine. I changed my passcode and i forgot it. I tried entering what i thought my passcode was, but i entered it many times wrong. soon a message came up on my screen and said, "ipod disabled connect to itunes" After reading that i connected to itunes hoping to restore it, it said, "can not restore, due to undetected errors." I am very disappointed because i went to the apple store asking them to help me fix it. They said the didnt know how to it can no longer work. I need help i spent a good amount of money for a working product. What i got is NOT working. I am very unsatisfied. APPLE NEEDS TO GET IT TOGETHER AND HELP. i am not the only one this has happened to but i will not buy another apple product until they start helping, i will stop using all my apple prducts and i will NOT reccommend any apple products to anyone until they get it together, and fix this problem. now APPLE do you think you can help now? i am VERY UNSATISFIED WITH YOUR SERVICES AND PRODUCTS. Now that i can finally get my thoughts out, now that apple has made me make this public, are you willing to do something about it? Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

You'll need to connect it to the iTunes library you normally sync it with and restore it. If iTunes asks you for this passcode before it will let you proceed, connect the iPod to iTunes in recovery mode instead using the instructions in this Apple support document.

My windows 8 Asus laptop will not recognize my 4th gen ipod shuffle, either in device manager or in itunes just to be clear, apple support just tells me its my usb cable and not something that is wrong with the ipod, anyone else have this issue or at least know how to solve it?

Does anyone know how to retrieve an ipod serial number from your computer or via any other means

I have I believe a 5th gen Ipod the older ones 30gb white with video...It was stolen and I have no record of the serial number which I need to include on the police report.. Apple could not help me...is there a way to retrieve it from my computer since I have used ipod with Itunes.

Run an iTunes device connectivity test. Near the end of the report there should be a field indicating the last iPod that was synced with that particular iTunes library. It will include the serial # of the device. So if you have already synced another device since then, I'm afraid you are out of luck.

- Reset all settings

- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

With iOS 5 go to Settings>General>About>Name and change the name.
You can also connect the iPod to your computer and right clcik on the iPod name under Devices in iTunes and change the name like you change a file name.

Everything should be on your computer.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
