I had to do a system restore on my PC.  I backed up all program files and want to reinstall iTunes.  Can I do that and restore all of my itunes settings, playlists, etc?

I recently had to do a system restore on my PC.  I backed up all program files to an external hard drive.  I'd like to reinstall itunes, but I was hoping to get back all of my settings, playlists, etc.  I can't seem to figure out how to find the appropriate file in the itunes folder of what I backed up.  Is there a way to reinstall itunes from scratch and restore my old settings?

The Windows System Restore process shouldn't affect your iTunes library. If you restore to a time before you installed iTunes then you would need to reinstall the application, but the library would be fine.
Restoring your entire system to factory settings would wipe your library.
Either way you should backup your library on a regular basis and before any major change.

I had to do a system restore of my computer and now my Ipod Library isn't being recognized by iTunes...how do I work around this without a 3rd party software?
I try to avoid 3rd party programs with Apple gear...for the obvious reasons that I don't trust anything thats not designed by Apple for Apple.
The Battery is begining to have reduced lifetime and it is obvious I shall need to replace my Ipod 160 Classic in the near future...as such I really don't want to manually reinstall 912 songs/18 movies/3 TV shows.  And due to CS 'policies' I can't get my iTunes Store Purchases re-authorized for Download (about 150 USD of purchases I don't want to lose).
Any suggestions besides "drop back 5 yards and Punt."

I had to wipe my computer clean and I had backed up my I tunes on an external hard drive, but I also had all my music on my Ipod.  Now that I reinstalled Itunes, it can't locate all my music that I have on my ipod.  Did you find a way to do this?  Please help if you have a solution.

  • My macbook pro logic board died. I had all my music on an external drive. How do I get my iTunes library, playlists etc. from my dead computer onto my new one?

My logic board died on my old macbook pro. I have a new one, but I want to get my iTunes library off my old hard drive and put it on my new one. I had set up my old MBP to store all my iTunes music on an external drive, so I have the music. The iTunes program was on the old MBP hard drive. How do I essentially recreate my previous iTunes library, playlists, etc on my new laptop?

You will need the iTunes Library.itl file which generally lives in ~/Music/iTunes/. You can recover this from the backups you were making before the HDD died. Otherwise, you cannot recreate the library.

  • Had to do complete system restore - how can I get my library and apps back?

I recently had to do a complete system restore on my laptop. How can I get my iTunes library back, including apps? I haven't updated my iPod Touch in a while because I don't want everything on it to be erased.
    Thanks!

You restore them from the backups you made before you did a complete system restore.
You do make regular backups, especially before you wipe your system, correct?
haven't updated my iPod Touch in a while because I don't want everything on it to be erased.
You can get everything off your iPod touch

Make backups after you get them loaded.

  • I had to do a system restore and lost all my bookmarks. How do I get them back?

I did not know that if I did a system restore that I would loose all my bookmarks.

It is possible that the system restore restored an older copy of the profiles.ini file that doesn't have your current Firefox profile folder.
You can check if there are more profile folders and if that is the case then you can either recover data from that profile or use the Profile Manager to create a new profile and click the "Choose Folder" button and browse to that lost profile folder to re-register this lost profile. Firefox will recognize that profile and you should have all data back.

  • I was updating to IOS 8 thru iTunes on my 4S and it came unplugged. Now it wants me to restore settings. Is there a way to undo this and get 'old' phone back with all of my info/pics/contacts/etc?

I was updating to the IOS 8 thru ITunes on my 4S when it came unplugged from the computer (dumb dog). Now the phone just has an image of plugging in to the ITunes icon and when I plug it in it says its in recovery mode and needs to be restored to original settings and I will lose all of my contacts/photos/etc. Is there a way to reverse this and just get my 'old' phone back with all of my stuff? I only have the free ICloud storage so I know most of my stuff will be lost. Yes I know..,hindsight is 20/20 on buying the backup. Help please!

In short. No, you cannot unsync.  If you had a back up from your old iPhone you cand restore from a back up.
In iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Devices > and select the latest back up.
Before you synced your phone did you have it set up with the PhotoStream or iCloud? The pictures would be saved there.  Or if you had them sync to a file on your computer.

  • Its great you all decided to update to a new system but my bookmarks are still stored under the .json file and i would like them back

my computer crashed and i need to restore my bookmarks but it wont recognize the json bookmark file. it is real nice of firefox to update how bookmarks are saved and not tell people so they know to change their backups WTF

    </blockquote>
What do you mean be this?
    Bookmark / History Backups
Type '''about:support'''<Enter> in the address bar.
Under the page logo on the left side you will see '''Application Basics.'''
Under this find '''Profile Folder.''' To it’s right press the button
'''Show Folder.''' This will open your file browser to the current
    Firefox profile. Now '''Close Firefox.'''
Enter the '''bookmarkbackups''' folder. This is where Firefox makes backups
of your bookmarks. Look for the '''jsonlz4''' file you want to restore
(check the time / date / size). Right click on that file and select '''Copy.'''
Now go back to the profile folder where you started. Rename the file
'''places.sqlite''' by adding '''.old''' to it. Now right click in the folder
and select '''Paste.''' The file you just pasted here, rename it to
'''places.sqlite.''' After you are done, restart Firefox.

  • I had to do a system restore on my MacBook Pro. Every app opens except Photoshop CS6. I get an error message  "Could not complete your request because of a program error."

My Mac was rebooted off the system disk. I have CS6 for Design and Web. Every other app opens. The only one that won't open is Photoshop. I tried to launch it without the preferences file, it still didn't launch. The Plug-ins folder is empty except for a folder called Panels, which is also empty. Should I uninstall and then reinstall?

Consider resetting the Pen tool by right clicking here
and if that doesn't solve the problem a logical next step would be to reset your Preferences.
    To reset Preferences:
If Photoshop is already open on your screen, close it (Quit). Then hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and start Photoshop.
A dialog box will pop up asking if you want to delete the existing Preferences file (the "Settings"). Click Yes in the dialog box. The existing Preferences file will be scrapped and a new one will be created.
By the way, if "The custom shape tool is 99% of what I use!" have you considered Illustrator?

  • I just updated my Mac Mini to the newest version of itunes and itunes no longer reconizes my external hard drive as my storage for itunes. All of my music, movies, playlist, etc. are found on my itunes. Help I'm about to punch something!!!

I have a 2TB External HDD that contains all of my iTunes data and before the latest Sept. 2012 iTunes  update I had the folder located in the advanced tab of itunes located on my external HDD. After the reboot and the new iTunes software was installed it defalted to my HDD on my mini and nothing that was there before the update was no longer there. All of my music, playlists, podcasts, folders, movies etc. was gone. I have redirected the library file locating back to my external HDD but it still is not working. HELP!!!!

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Windows images, but you get the point. Depending on the age of your library the library file might not include the .itl extention. Make it match the file you are replacing.
See MusicFolder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks for tools to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.

  • How can I migrate my iTunes library, playlists, etc from XP to Windows 7?

I apologize if this has been asked and answered before.  I cannot find a relevant article with google or the
    search here on Apple support.
My iTunes library is on an external drive.  iTunes keeps a few folders in XP
    on the C: drive under
    Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple,
    Documents and Settings\Mike\Application Data\Apple,
    Docuemnts and Settings\Mike\Local Settings\Apple, and
    Docuemnts and Settings\Mike\Local Settings\Apple Computer.
I copied these folders to my external drive and hooked it up to my new computer
that runs Windows 7 where I had already installed a new copy of iTunes.
I tried copying the folders that were on the (XP) C: drive to my best guess as to where
they would go on the (W7) C: drive.  Microsoft being Microsoft, they cannot let
the names of anything remain the same.
I set the preferences on my W7 iTunes to point to the external drive as my library
location.  Nothing happened.  I tried restarting iTunes, but still my existing data was not
    acknowledged.
I then used the import files from folder option, using the location of the ITUNES folder
on my external drive.  This ran fairly quickly.  But, to my dismay, all my ratings were
lost and (thinking about it, not surprisingly) none of my playlists were there either.
So, does anyone have any experience on what files should be copied from XP to W7
and where?  It seems to me this should not be that difficult.  After all, the data is
    all there, right?
One article I read suggested using the iPod as a backup device to transfer the files.
Would this work?  Would it also transfter the playlists, ratings, etc?  My concern
(again based on another article I read) is that I will wind up with duplicate copies
of all the music in my music library.
(As a precaution, I have backups of my iTunes library and the (XP) C: folders on
two other external drives.  Also, the XP PC still has iTunes on it, so I could easily
reconnect the external drive there and do other stuff if necessary.
When I purchased my new iPod, it took almost 24 hours to transfter my music library
to it.  It also takes almost 24 hours to do the drive to drive backup.  (Maybe my new
computer will be faster.)  Based on this experience, I would like to avoid having the
migration of data take that long.
If the changes I made to the W7 PC need to be undone, I can easily just remove iTunes
    there and start again.
I hope my question is clear and I thank you for your time.
    Cordially, MZ
PS: The XP box is an IBM and the W7 box is a new Dell.  Both are desktop models.

You will need the iTunes Library.itl file which generally lives in ~/Music/iTunes/. You can recover this from the backups you were making before the HDD died. Otherwise, you cannot recreate the library.

  • While in traget disk mode to fix a black screen Macbook pro,  I trashed my boot from system library...oops - it trashed the working mac file and now I have no ability to open my trash to regain it... I do have an Imac, and connecting cable.

I trashed a system window boot file while in target disk mode: attempting to repair a black screen in macbook pro A,  it removed the file from working macbook pro B.  Now I can't open the trash to regain it.  I have an Imac, and can set up target disk mode, but am not sure where to go from here.. Help!

So, next I used Target mode...saw the HD icon on my IMac display and "loaded" Yosemite back onto the Macbook Pro, I thought, but no!  it loaded it onto my Imac -  so, had to wait til that was done to continue....next day...I decided to try command-R w/startup, recovery mode,  and use wifi to reload Yosemite onto my Macbook Pro, because I didn't want to go deeper into the issue - just wanted my computer working again.
    That worked, of course.
Thank you for your help - I always learn a lot on this site.

  • Reinstalling iTunes, library, Apps, etc.?

I had a computer crash after installing Win7-64 sp1. Everything on my hdd was backuped, but my music, etc, was not backed up via iTunes. Can I simply install iTunes on my reformated hdd, place the music, etc. back in My Music, and have iTunes "see" and "accept" my library? If not, what would be the proper procedure? Thanks. BTW, I've heard that iTunes may NOT work with the sp1. Is this a fact, a "sometimes" situation, or what?

Generally speaking, it's probably best to use iTunes on your computer to get the apps, not the app store on the phone.
With the phone connected to the computer, when you select the phone in iTunes and select Apps at the top of the screen, is the Face Book application selected?  If it isn't, the Face Book app isn't going to be synced to your phone.
iTunes is used to manage your phone and it's content.
