I have been using my ipod classic as a hard drive whilst travelling, but at least half of the photo folders no longer show up when accessing the Ipod in My Computer

Hello All,
My concern is growing rapidly that i may have lost a large chunk photographs, i take some solice in the fact that when looking at the properties
of my Ipod the correct amount of memory is still being used thisa is the same when looking at memory usage in ITunes, however i do not seem to be able to
access them.
Could this be a FAT32 storage problem as this is the current format i have the Ipod in? should it try converting? Could this be an issue from using windows?
or could the files somehow have become hidden folders?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

On the main ipod screen in itunes check the manually manage ipod box.
I would personally keep the tracks on my laptop, the ipod HDD is less stable than the laptops.

    Thanks!

If you are in the UK:
Please upgrade your plan to Web n Walk plus. One of our users on T-Mobile UK had this to report back to us:
T-Mobile UK are in fact port blocking to ensure fair usage on their base Web and Walk Plan. I have upgraded to Web and Walk Plus and as a result the port blocks are lifted and I get a higher data allowance!
We were also recently contacted by T-Mobile UK, who stated the following:
Any smart phone (iphone, android etc) that is bought directly from T-Mobile should be automatically provisioned with Web n Walk plus, if customers have bought a handset sim free then they will need to call customer services and get this added. It is free of charge for most price plans (including new plans) but some older plans will generate a charge of £5pm for this.

I have been using Lightroom 4.4 successfully for over 2 years.  Just tried to import some new photos after a vacation and the application crashes when I click "import" every time.  Tried restarting computer.  Version says it is up to date.
How do I get formal support for this from Adobe?

Thanks for the response.  The application was crashing.  A Windows message was displayed showing "Lightroom.exe has stopped working", "Windows can check online for a solution the problem.". Etc.
I just launched Lightroom to check the exact message for this reply - and the Import worked.  It had failed dozens of times before.

Lately I have been getting a rectangular screen titled Login Setting, with my Username and Password and asking me to Login.  This screen shows up on opening the computer and has never been seen before the last month or so.  It has one box titled Login Credentials with a username and password field and a second box titled Login Status at the bottom where it says "Profile not found" in red.   I've never seen this before and ignoring it does not effect any operations.   Is this legitimate or some kind of identity fishing?

Flashback - Detect and remove the uprising Mac OS X Trojan...
    http://www.mac-and-i.net/2012/04/flashback-detect-and-remove-uprising.html
In order to avoid detection, the installer will first look for the presence of some antivirus tools and other utilities that might be present on a power user's system, which according to F-Secure include the following:
    /Library/Little Snitch
    /Developer/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/MacOS/Xcode
    /Applications/VirusBarrier X6.app
    /Applications/iAntiVirus/iAntiVirus.app
    /Applications/avast!.app
    /Applications/ClamXav.app
    /Applications/HTTPScoop.app
    /Applications/Packet Peeper.app
If these tools are found, then the malware deletes itself in an attempt to prevent detection by those who have the means and capability to do so. Many malware programs use this behavior, as was seen in others such as the Tsunami malware bot.

  • On my third iPod classic, possibly failing hard drive, again

i've been using 160gb ipod classics for a few years now, they're the most easily available and affordable music players for the amount of music i listen to regularly, and for a while they worked perfectly for me. after the first one i owned was stolen, my second ipod lasted a good while but then started having problems that were attributed by myself & apple to a failing hard drive. now i'm on my third one, and while attempting to sync music to it, all of my music was randomly removed from the ipod. the ipod itself seems to work fine, but now itunes is giving me error 1439 and i can't restore it or format it. is the hard drive failing on this one as well? is something wrong on my end, or are all new ipod classics generally this bad, or am i just coincidentally getting faulty ones? how do i proceed?
here's the stats on it which actually do not look good
    Retracts: 7
    Reallocs: 2648
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 61
    Start/Stops: 5451
    Temp: Current 35c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 54c

You're not supposed to let the iPod get hotter than 50c.  Not good for the components.  2648 reallocs is not good, but none pending suggests that any bad clusters have been successfully mapped out. Try a DFU restore and the "break up large transfers" method from Corrupt iPod classic.

  • IPod Classic: what causes hard drive damage?

I charged my iPod Classic (160GB) this morning, properly ejected the device, used it for a few minutes, then it just..... crashed. I've tried running tests and nothing happened. I've also tried reconnecting it to my laptop (Mac) but it indicated Error 1434/ said the device is not repairable/. Then went straight to restoring it via my iMac, but no luck (it detects the device, but it doesn't show up on iTunes -- so how can I restore?). I've done my research and ended up with this idea: my iPod is dead. Now I'm just wondering -- after almost a year and a half of taking care of my iPod (by taking care, I mean proper ejecting, not dropping it, etc), why the sudden hard drive damage?
    Please enlighten me.

Hard drives do fail over time.  Even solid state drives will fail one day.
However, I once had a problem with an iPod Classic that I belive was caused by using the iPod as an external hard drive and I ended up taking it to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store.  All the Genius did was plug it in to his computer and used some 3rd party application to force the iPod to restore again.  And that was after I tried several things.  So I suggest you take it to a Apple Genius if you can.
If you can't go to an Apple Store, I can look for that 3rd party Application.

Recently, I have been unable to import all of the "songs" or discs from multi-CD operas in itunes to my ipod classic or Seagate network hard drive. Only 1 or 2 discs or 20 or so "songs" out of a  total of 40 - 80 import despite plenty of available space in both devices. When I check itunes, each opera disc with all of the "songs" are listed. Very frustrating! Any suggestions?

right click on the songs that do transfer and select create aac version then re sync

  • Hi,I'm trying to put all of the songs on my ipod classic to a hard drive for back up but it's only adding songs that I have purchased from the store but none of the albums that I put on from my cd collection. Is there a way to do this please?

Hi,I'm trying to put all the songs from my ipod classic onto an external hard drive, but it is only putting purchases from itunes onto hard drive and not any of my old cd's that I put onto the ipod manually.Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer.  As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you.  I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.
    Best.

  • Using Ipod Classic as a hard-drive

This might sound like a silly question, but if anyone could help me out i'd be very grateful...
I have recently bought a 160GB ipod, with the intention of using it as a hard-drive - is it at all possible to erase all the tracks on my macbook (to which my ipod is synched to) and keep all of the tracks on the ipod, saving me having all of my music in 2 places?
This would create more hard-drive space on my mac, and i could just plug my ipod into my macbook instead.
Would this however cause problems when synching new music as the ipod would surely recognise that all the previous music on the mac had been deleted and would therefore delete it on the ipod too...?
    hope that makes sense...?!
    Thanks,
    Ben.

On the main ipod screen in itunes check the manually manage ipod box.
I would personally keep the tracks on my laptop, the ipod HDD is less stable than the laptops.

  • Problem using iPod classic 20GB as hard drive

any idea why a completely restored-to-factory-settings, empty 20GB iPod enabled for disk use wouldn't allow transfer of an iPhoto Library? i am trying to back up my library, itself housed on an external hard drive, but when i copy the library i get a message saying 'there is not enough free space'. any ideas or suggestions? is there something physically wrong with my iPod? thanks!

good grief - it's too big... no wonder. sorry i didn't look at that before (how embarrassing). thanks!

  • Downloading music from ipod classic to external hard drive

Hi, Can anybody please tell me if its possible to download music from my classic to an external hard drive and would copyright issues be envolved perhaps stopping me downloading all the music. Most of the music is from my own CD's. Thanks.

While it is possible to put the music on an iPod onto an external drive, it isn't easy, and iTunes can't do it. You would need a third-party programme. Is the music not listed in your iTunes Library, and therfore, on your computer? Then all you would need to do is copy the files from their location on your computer to the external hard drive.
It should be on your computer, it's not wise to use the iPod as your only copy of your Library, since it's not designed to be a back up device.
As for copyright; this is actually a grey area, dependent upon which country you are in. In the UK for example, it is actually breaking copyright to put the CDs you own onto an iPod. But in reality, no one in the UK will be prosecuted since what they are doing is regarded as fair use. (I think these rules are about to change, in favour of the consumers.) I believe that in the USA, at least one lawyer has been trying to bring a prosecution based on "putting your CDs onto an iPod is copyright theft".
    What is usually boils down to is this;
if you are making a copy for your own use, that's okay. But if you are making a copy for you to keep, while you then sell your original CDs to someone else, that's copyright theft.
Members of one household, i.e. brothers, sisters and children can share the music on CDs, without fear of copyright theft accusations. But if your brother moves out to his own home, then he no longer has a right to copies of your CDs.
Making a copy, by which you make profit, or deprive the copyright owner of income, is copyright theft. So lending your CD to a friend, who then makes a copy and returns the CD to you, is copyright theft, even if you made no money from this.
